Tip: Prepare for a step back in time with vintage decor. The pancakes are worth trying, but be aware that the food can be a little salty for some.

Nice old school diner coffee shop felt like the old Brentwood Bowl Coffee Shop I used to go to in South San Francisco the first 55 years of my life. I was at home the minute I walked through the door and the menu you had interesting options to boot. I had Hot Links with Eggs and the most fluffy pancake cakes you can imagine. The only negative is maple syrup only, no flavored ones. But I believe that's the old school way to do it. Prices are good. Food is good, and it looks like it hasn't changed in fifty years. I like all that...
one time, when I was 7 in 2007 my mom and I walked in here because I had to pee, they told her to leave because I was black and she looked racially ambiguous. this location was such a core memory of mine, like I really wanted to eat the pancakes but..they made us leave. Im sure it's different now, I see non white people in the photos now so I feel a little bit better. maybe i'll swing by. Happy holidays.
Took my family here during a visit because I'd always been curious about this Sac staple. Went on a Saturday during the morning rush but was greeted immediately by Cecilia who sat us and served us. She was fantastic. Food was solid, what you'd expect from an old-school dinner. The inside is super cool, too. Full of color and many many clowns, hence the restaurant's name. I'd like to go back to try their other items!
Pancake Circus has been around for over 50 years. And it's been a good 50. Much of the interior decor came from that era and though it is a little tired, it's a step back in time when you enter and are greeted by the fun standing clown sign. The food is prepared quickly and served promptly. The staff is accommodating and professional. It's no wonder pancake is in the name; they are delicious. Try Pancake Circus. It is a fun adventure to the bygone days.
One of Sacramento‘s iconic breakfast diners! The decor is glorious! Strange clown, pictures on the wall and for some reason Winnie the Pooh characters randomly dispersed. The food is classic diner, breakfast and lunch. I ended up having the circus burger, which was amazing. It’s two beef patties on a hoagie bun. I recommend the curly fries. Service was great and the food came out quick. I also had a few bites of my wife’s pancakes and waffles and they were pretty good.
Got the early bird special one large pancake one egg hash browns and two sausages for $9 not a bad deal. I went ahead and added an extra pancake and some peanut butter to go with the pancakes. Being a diabetic they also offer sugar-free syrup. You couldn't taste the difference. It was a great dining experience
Been coming here for years. Love the diner vibe and the food is consistently tasty and quick! We stop through every time we’re in town. Don’t skip out on the pancakes. Prepare for a nap after.
Pancake Circus does not have much ambiance! But want comfort food? I had the Pancake Circus special $13.99 and a cup of coffee (which was excellent)! Surprisingly, it was: 2 eggs (your way), 2 sausage or bacon, potatoes (country style was recommended and did not disappoint! Huge chunks of potatoe perfectly cooked), and surprisingly cinnamon french toast (not pancakes?). *Now how a place called Pancake Circus, could have a special without pancakes is dumb founding. However the french toast is shaped like a pancake! See photo. The service was great, so was the coffee. Plenty of parking, handicap accessed. Did not see many families, however this was a Monday morning, not the weekend. In addition, what kid does not love pancakes! The decorations inside child friendly! See photos.
The food was pretty good, I really liked the Circus Burger. One of the other people I went with said that their French dip sandwich wasn't very good, so I suppose don't get that. If you like circus-themed things, I definitely recommend. There were little games and a lot of neat little figures that seemed to have been there for at least two decades.
Had to try this uniquely decorated restaurant after reading a recently published story in the Sacramento Bee. I wasn’t disappointed. Good food at reasonable prices and friendly service. On site parking lot with space available. While paying the bill I purchased Mega Millions Lotto Tickets which accomplished the other thing I had to do today‼️
For years I have driven by this place thinking it was closed like ghost town restaurant. My bestie and I came here last Sunday. The food was okay, and the atmosphere was creepy. Not coming here again. It's not a bad place, it's just not for me.
I'm old enough to remember when restaurants still had smoking sections and the "time capsule" experience I read about in other reviews persists with the nicotine-stained walls, ceiling, and carpet at Pancake Circus. On a scale of one to five, the smell is about a 1.5, so if you avoid bars because of smoke, the second-hand smoke smell here may bother you as well; it persisted in my sinuses until the food arrived. The water was not filtered and the coffee wasn't great. Now that you've lived past that, the food itself was EXCEPTIONALLY tasty. My buddy got the chorizo and it was flavorful without being overpowering. My lemon méringue pancakes were beautifully fluffy and with heated syrup were next-level. My chicken-fried steak was perfection and the eggs with cheese were scrumptious. I got some extra crisp hash browns and they did not disappoint. They were spread a bit thin for staff so don't be shy about getting up and telling them what you need. They did a fine job. I'd say either bring your own beverages or use this for delivery because the food is completely comfortable and delicious. Avoid if you have the least bit hesitation about clowns because they are all over the place. I used the gender-neutral bathroom and it was clean, so that's good.
The service was decent but not majorly attentive. Has the Denver Omelet w/cheese and Country Potatoes. The extra cost for a sprinkle of cheese was not worth the extra almost $3, there was barely any ham in it and the eggs tasted like they were from a box but, the potatoes were on point and the coffee was fresh. I did notice the, I'm guessing, owner was very personal with his customers, which is always a plus. The old fashion charm of the classic diner was very whimsical and nostalgic.
It's like stepping back in time. Everything is old. Not for those scared of clowns. Food isn't mind blowing. Some of our plates were cold BUT pancakes are worth trying. Service is ok. Our server did not check on us for refills. I dont think she checked on any table. I think this place is worth a visit for it's age.
This place looks like it's from a horror movie. Old school zoo / circus vibe, and starting to show its age. I got the early bird special and it was worth it. Can't say that it was amazing but it was pretty good. There was only one server for the entire restaurant so service was not the high point.
Went today with my cousin who has surgery tomorrow and he only had an hour and a half to eat, he had never tried this before and was excited. Right away when we walked in the waitress was very rude, my cousin asked for the biscuits and gravy and the woman said that he could only have 1 piece of bacon and 1 sausage. Also tried to get 2 banana pancakes and 2 chocolate chip. She said we couldnt do both and it had to be one or the other. The food was horrid and made my stomach hurt right away. We all took a bite from the food and decided we did not like it so we told the waitress we didnt like the food and she said “oh im sorry to hear that” rudely and walked off. Would never go here again and do not recommend.
I took my girlfriend and my cousin to eat here because they had never been before. We placed our orders, but from the moment we arrived, the server was extremely rude. When the food came out, it was very disappointing the biscuits and gravy were cold, and the potatoes were undercooked. We waited for the server to return and told her that the food wasn’t to our liking. Her response was, “I’m so sorry to hear that,” but she said it in a condescending tone, as if mocking me. Then she simply placed the bill on the table and walked away. None of us were able to eat even half of our meals because the food was so unpleasant.
This morning I had taken my wife to eat here and regret ever coming to this restaruant. As the waitress lupe walked us to our table she did not ask what we would like to drink just walked off. Lupe returned and took our order then immediately required me to pay the bill talking loudly so everyone in the restaurant is now looking at us. She didnt give us our drinks until after I paid ,and she brought back 2 folded dollars with no receipt when lupe brought the food it was already cold I had just spent $57 on cold food coffee and orange juice then as we're eating lupe asked how many to go boxes we would want and we just began eating so I finished my meal went to the bathroom and my wife was sitting with a look like she was about to cry she quietly told me she asked for more orange juice and a different server refused and gave her a cup of iceless water. I asked the waitress for an Orange juice she said there are no refills I said ok well I'm not asking for a refill I want to purchase another one she flat out said no and lupe yells come here I'll deal with you from the front register says no refills I said ok can you just charge me for another one she said you already paid so no. I was standing there embarrassed everyone watching cash to pay in my hand for the orange juice then she told us to leave she doesn't have time for me.i asked to speak to her manager she said I just did. That was the most horrible experience of our life. Rude judgemental staff cold food and Waste of money not worth it to eat there.
