You only get one shot at a good first impression. Today was our first visit to The Lost Cajun and it was outstanding. To start with, the staff members were all very friendly from the moment we arrived, especially our server, Derrick, who was all smiles and very helpful. Great service all round. The restaurant itself was very clean, including the restrooms. We love our ice tea, and they serve strong, clear, and tasty Community Tea from Louisiana--exactly like we like it. In the end, though, the food can make or break a restaurant. Derrick brought us a cool sampler set of six different items, from etoufee, to jambalaya, to gumbos, to lobster bisque, and finally red beans and rice. All were outstanding, and it made our first time choice hard. What we had today--the Cat-toufee, with lightly fried catfish, rice, and etoufee--was awesome. It was hot, fresh, and the presentation was spot-on. A very generous portion, too. You won't go away hungry. We also ordered a side of the seasoned fries to share (which we didn't really need with our big plates, as it turned out). They were cooked perfectly, crispy and golden, and the seasoning was perfect. Lastly, we ordered some biegnets to go, as we were too full to eat them right away. Man, they were good later, though, with lots of powdered sugar on a light pastry. Bottom line: Our personal experience during our first visit was really great. Thanks to all the employees working when we stopped by for a job well done. We highly recommend this little restaurant and look forward to our next time trying it!
This place is legit! This was our first visit, and the sampler of etouffe and jambalaya and the others was a great way to start. Our waiter, Derrick, was helpful and friendly and attentive. The seafood sampler platter was a great portion, and the catfish batter/breading was light and fluffy (and I usually don’t like fried catfish, because it’s too greasy and breaded). And they have Abita Amber! We love NOLA, and this place is a fine substitute for food and drinks until we get back over there. This is our new spot. They have happy hours, too!
The food is good. I recieved great service. The waitress is very polite and nice. I had a cup to eat around 2pm. It was nice& quiet. I ordered a cup of the Crawfish Etoufee and it tasted great. I liked it. My compliments to the chef. The restraunt was playing Cajun music and gave it a nice touch. It felt like Louisiana. "The lost Cajun" also has a bar for some adult beverages. They offered me a sampler plate and it was delicious. It has 6 2oz cups. It's a tease lol. They also provide outside seating for the outdoor folk. "The Lost Cajun" I'm glad you found your way here to San Antonio Texas and made a home.
Amazing place. First I was really impressed that they brought out a sample board free of charge without asking. I went with the Cat-touffée. The catfish was awesome. Not overcooked as many places tend to do. The crawfish étoufée had a great flavor. Next time I'll get them separate to get more étoufée. Coming back and bringing the family.
My husband and I visited here for the first time on a busy Friday night. The wait was only about 5 minutes. Our table was clean, and the ambience was nice with some zydeco playing in the background. Our server, Preston, was on point. He was friendly and attentive even though they were very busy. The sample tray was a nice touch. It helped us decide what we'd be getting. My husband ordered the crawfish etouffe and I got the red beans and rice. We also ordered the boudin balls. Everything we ordered was delicious and the portions were just right. For dessert we tried the traditional beignets. They were huge, with tons of powdered sugar. I really only have two complaints. One, the garlic French bread served with the meal was tiny! Two, the beignets weren't quite cooked long enough. Considering that I'm extremely picky, and those were the only two things I could find to complain about, we'll definitely be back.
Absolutely hands down some of the best Cajun food Ive had in a while. I would put this restaurant in the top 3 Ive ever eaten at. The lobster bisque is amazing, I actually returned another day just to get a large bowl of it. If its your first time visiting, ask for the sampler, its free.. While it probably wont making deciding what to order any easier as I found at least 3 items on it I wanted more of. The beignets were good as well, as they fry them up when you order them, and are served in a huge portion. I would highly recommend an order of these at the end of your meal. They offer daily lunch specials, and on my first visit I tried the alligator po-boy with a side of the lobster bisque. Everything was absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the place is great too, although lunch might be a bit quieter. I would list this as a must visit to anyone who loves Cajun food, Alligator, or Beignets.
First time here 11/24/19. First let me say if it’s your first time they will give you a little sample tray. It’s so cute and it was good! I ordered a shrimp P.O. boy with fries. It was so good. It was the half order but there was so much shrimp. I was so full but I wanted to try their beignets. I waited after I ate to allow some room and good things I ordered 1 because that bad boy was huge. It was so good all I needed was coffee. Over this place was great. That lobster bisque was so darn good. I plan to get that and gator.
Very good Cajun concept. This is the second location in San Antonio and it’s pretty new. The menu is pretty standard fare Cajun, including fried, grilled and blackened offerings. They also have red beans and rice and a few unique dishes. We particularly enjoyed the gumbo. The space is clean and a mix between Cajun and a modern / minimalist feel. We had good and attentive service. Please add boiled shrimp to the menu!
This place was clean and service good, but the food really wasn't were it needed to be. It started well with an order of fried pickles, that were quite tasty, but that was the highlight. I ordered the Spicy Sausage Po-boy and my wife the Cajun Shrimp Alfredo. Both our dishes came out luke warm. My wife's alfredo sauce tasted like it came from a can and there was nothing in the slightest cajun about it. My Po-boy was ok and may have been good had it been warm.
I would like to preface this review by saying, "Everyone has different recipes and different tastes... But this taste is not for me." Being from Louisiana I am always hesitant to go to any Cajun food or Louisiana-inspired restaurant. I've always been disappointed with the attempts and this time was no different. I tried out the sample board they offer when you come in and nothing there tasted remotely...tasty. The two types of gumbo they have are made from the same batch of roux but they are so distinctively different I was confused. Again, different recipes so I will digress. I ended up getting the catfish Po-Boy because I would have felt bad sampling and not buying anything. The full sized poboys are a great size and it wasn't too bad. But the hush puppies on the other hand were more "bready" than "cornbready" is the only way I can seem to describe them. I didn't even want to attempt finishing them (didn't like). The atmosphere and the representative we're nice. But this lost Cajun seems to have been lost for quite a while because this tastes nothing like the "Cajun" I'm used to.
Got their signature dish which was served lukewarm on a plastic dish. Accompanied by "garlic bread" that had just a bit of butter brushed on top with minimal garlic. The jambalaya was not only not hot, but very dry (no indication it had ever seen any roux). Was later told it was an "endless bowl", but declined a second serving. Coffee machine had evidently been broken all day from what I was told, which meant iced tea with the beignets. Given the sad shape of the rest of the meal, the beignets were surprisingly good. But even those aren't good enough to convince me to make a return visit.
