So good! We ordered 6 items and all were great. The Dal bowl, Thai salad with Poke add, French Fries, and Beignets for desert, delicious. Super friendly local staff. We will be back for sure, soon.
Was looking form something a little off the beaten path to take my family to when they visited. I wanted to avoid the hubub of downtown and the crowds because of COVID. Took a chance on MRK. I'm so mad I didn't realize how great this place was! The brussel sprouts are absolutely insane. It's super quaint and super quick. Really enjoyed my burger and the ambiance. Highly recommend them!
Don't let the modest ambiance fool you, the food is original and very good. MRK Public is like a gastro pub but a cut above. A great selection of wines and craft beers compliment the great food. We had the Brussels sprouts, homemade pastrami sandwich, steak frites, fried chicken sandwich, and desserts, all were very good! The patio was very nice but a bit noisy from the freeway traffic.
Why did we wait so long to go? We live right up the road and I desperately wished we would’ve tried this earlier. I now crave it. I highly suggest the fried chicken sandwich, my husband who loves a good burger, did say it was one of the best burgers of his life *WOAH* Always good beer picks, and great service. Happy to have it down the road!
Killer food. Probably the best wings I've ever had. Fried garlic sprinkled on tip of the wings is just too good. Server didn't get his name, had really good recommendations. Totally worth a 35min drive north of me to go here.
If you love gastropub food, with some twists, (Like the pork belly Bahn Mi) Best dinner in San Clemente hands down👌, best tap list in SC and the staff are fantastic! A must try for the tourists 🥇and a new favorite for the foodies.
Amazing Everything! From the moment you walk in you feel so welcome. The aroma of the food gets your tastebuds excited! My family and I truly enjoy this establishment. Everything is good!!! My son and husband love the chicken sandwich. I personally can eat everything on the menu. There is incredible talent in the kitchen! The flavors are so rich in each of their dishes. The wait staff is remarkable so kind and helpful! They are always a joy to interact with. Always a good time when we dine in! Five stars isn't enough so here 10!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We love this place. It’s really good food with a creative feel. The beer and wine selection is awesome. My two favorites are the Thai salad with the beef and the lentil dahl. The environment is not too fancy, has a real casual feel, same for the service. The beignets are fantastic as well. Comfortable seating and a good location right off the freeway and with parking.
We had wings as starters and the sauce and wings were amazing. Short rib sandwich was juicy and a fairly large portion. Lemon beignet was also so well done. BUT the best part was our amazing server Curtis. So professional and helped us make the right choices. Thank you and definitely recommend the place. Would be great to see some more options on your menu.
We love the fried chicken sandwich, pastrami sandwich when on special, dal makhani fries, Thai beef salad, everything is a win here. Great beer and wines. Casual setting post beach but also our spot for date night. Glad to have this in our neighborhood!
Great little spot right off the freeway. Parking is a bit tight and I would think that on a busy night it would be really hard to find a spot and also to find a table inside. It's a very open space and even if you're sitting inside you feel kind of like you're sitting outside. Service was a bit slow because they were short staffed but the service we did have was very friendly. Although the menu is on the small side there are lots of great options what we ordered was delicious - a banh mi sandwich with grilled chicken, and hot chili brussel sprouts. The fries were cold and just okay.
A good place to gather. Food, drinks, seating. I left you a San Clemente Downtown Business Association, SCDBA, Resturant Week flyer at the patio door. This was by request.
Best in town. Great Service. Great Food.
Just wow. Definitely a true experience of a meal worth going out for. I had the pork belly sandwich, a daily special, and it was just insanely good. So many delicious flavors and the meat was as soft as the bun. Well-presented, with excellent service from a top-notch, friendly staff. I've been to so many places where the food did not live up to the style, gastropubs that wish they were MRK, but this place is the real gourmet deal. Can't wait to try their regular dishes.
First time here. The service was great, and the food was amazing! We had the steak special with mac and cheese and a chicken sandwich! Greatly wine selections, too! Wish we lived closer.
As alwaysl... exceeded expectations and was delicious! 😋 Sat at the outdoor seating. Loved our meal and beer and friends! Brussel sprouts. Fries. The Thai salad with tofu (their tofu is amazing!) And the burger...oh my It was all amazing. And well paired with a craft beer 🍺 or a lovely wine selection Thank goodness for our MRK!
Such a wonderful experience! So many options. Everything we ate was fresh and flavorful. Can't wait to return.
I was a big fan before COVID hit but have still enjoyed takeout in the past year because their food is so spectacular and I want them to thrive! Something that has been offered in ordering over the phone is their soup of the day. I hadn't ever noticed that they had soup. I'm telling you, I was sold after trying their cauliflower soup! I've tried several others, and each one is absolutely delicious. They do these unusual combinations that are absolutely mouthwatering, truly the best soup I've had in my life. Kudos to the planning and care that goes into making MRK such a gem!
Great spot! Big selection of local beers, fresh food, friendly service. Mellow atmosphere and ocean views too. Nice selection of vegan options as well. Love the fries and sweet potato cake. Recommend!
This is one of my favorite restaurants, a true low-key gem. The menu, varied specials, changing craft beer selection all come together in an intimate space prepared and served by a very friendly and professional staff. Looking forward to sitting at the bar again but until then the takeout will suffice. I should have written this years ago but hopefully it’ll have some positive impact in these times.
A smaller place with great food. I've had the burger and fries chicken sandwich which were both excellent and worth the price. They play modern pop/hip-hop music inside but at a reasonable volume so it isn't distracting. Beer selection is moderate but with good local options.
Loved the short rib sandwich, the taste I had of my wife’s burger, and the lemon ricotta beignets. Short rib was incredibly tender and moist. Onion crisps helped make sure it didn’t feel soggy. Flavor combinations were unlike anything I’ve had before. Just the right amount of peppers and horseradish crema so it didn’t dominate the sandwich. Side salad had pickled red onions that added just the right zest. Clearly a chef in house who knows what he/she is doing. 30-40 min drive for us, but definitely planning to come again. Well worth it. (Doesn’t hurt to swing by San Clemente beach for sunset stroll while we’re there)
This place is great! It's got a delightfully hipster brewpub feel with lots of local beers and delicious food. Perfect place for an afternoon date. The Tuscan Toast was a hit, as well as the Bone Marrow appetizer. 10/10 would eat again!
A must-try! This restaurant is run by a very talented chef and you can see it in the food! The wings are absolutely amazing with a great sweet Asian sauce. The short rib sandwich is juicy and flavorful. The flat iron steak in the steak and frites is tender and juicy with a fantastic salsa verde/chimichurri combo to brighten up the dish. The pork belly in the bahn mi simply melts in your mouth and is packed with flavor. This is easily one of the best restaurants in the area. If you haven't been yet please do yourself a favor and stop by!
My brother and I walked into MRK Public and were blown away from the start. The daily soup was a scratch-made jalapeño corn chowder topped with fresh cilantro, cotija cheese, and long, crispy house-made tortilla strips. The flavor was incredible—creamy with just the right amount of heat, subtle yet right up front. Then came the short rib sandwich—DIVINE. The meat was juicy, shredded, and tender, layered with banana peppers, crisp lettuce, horseradish crème, and served on the most amazing toasted baguette with a bubble-crusted finish. Every bite was perfection. The fries? Gorgeous—stacked high and garnished with care. And the ambiance sealed it all in: a perfect surf-city vibe, fresh and upscale, yet still with the warmth of a weekly neighborhood spot. This is a meal and a place I will not forget.
One word, amazing! How have I not been here sooner? Epic gastropub. The Thai salad was a hefty portion filled with deliciousness. The bahn mi sandwich incredible with a smoked flavor on vegetables. I added tofu and fries on side. So good. Cody, our waiter was great, chill and pleasant. Chef Rynes creations are phenomenal. Will be back for sure! Cool variety music in background, homemade succulent vases on each table and succulent wall. Indoor and outdoor seating. Highly recommend! .
Incredible meal, great casual stop. Our normally somewhat pickey kids loved the chicken sandwich and chili fries. Both desserts were amazing! Service was top notch, can't recommend enough!
You will not find better service, or more love in the preparation and quality of food. We started with the soup, some mussels, and some amazing brussels sprouts. The sauce for the mussels was a second soup. The sprouts were crunchy and perfect. We found a great wine, and after sampling several craft beers on tap, a great dark beer. We spent an hour on appetizers and were too filled to have an entrée. But, we had room to split a great desert.
Have been enjoying MRK now for a few years. Best wings I’ve ever had. I’ve enjoyed the pork belly sandwich pork Verde soup, the Poke Thai salad and other things. A great beer list with kambucha and ciders as well. Tonight i finished my girlfriends food just so i could have some wings left over for lunch tomorrow.
Eating here provided one of those rare moments in life where during and after the meal you think to yourself "if only every meal could satisfy so deeply." One of those meals where you push to eat just one more bite, despite your stretched and struggling stomach, for the expertly balanced, layered, and gratifying flavors. Get some!
Great service and great food! First time and im very happy! I got the sticky wings and the house burger. The wings were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing and the pickled slaw on the side, I could snack on all day. Burger was exactly what I wanted tonight and I have no complaints. Will be going back😊💯✔️ I ate the burger before I could take a photo lol
1st time here and we loved it! Took our food to go but wished we would of eaten in house to take in the moment and have a craft brew. We will be back!
We loved that place! Awesome food (with a lot of veggie and even vegan options), good beer, very relaxed atmosphere and outstanding service! Wonderful experience - thank you!
PEI mussels less a few. Broth was coconut curry. Food is great. Beer @$9 ea...I had just one. If you see MV in the price, ask.

Super good meat. Homemade fresh fries. A tad bit like Europe. Loved it.
Wow!! These reviews don’t lie. The most flavorful and unique food in town. Our server Jessie went above and beyond to give us an exceptional service. Chef Rayne knows how to leave you feeling perfectly satisfied. No wonder this place is a local gem.
The grilled chicken and Tuscan toast was very tasty. The Tuscan toast was very flavorful. It just needed a dash of salt, which they have, you just have to ask your server for the salt and pepper.
Loved MRK Public! Delicious food, great vibes, and super friendly staff. Will absolutely be back.
Just finished dinner at MRK Public and it was delicious. They have a good selection of local beers and serve wine, as well. We had the burger and the short rib sandwich. Both were delecious, especially the burger. Really, one of the best we’ve had. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. We’ll definitely be back!
MRK is a hidden gem. If you are lucky enough to be there while they have the pastrami on the menu, you must try it. It is only offered for limited times so make sure to call ahead to find out the next time it is available. If you miss out on the pastrami, no worries they have a vast menu that is spectacular. The wings are a MUST plus the BahnMi sandwich.

Great burgers and good quality food. I really enjoyed the distance each table had for outdoor seating. My only gripe was that the service was lackluster and there are bugs for the table near the bathroom as the bugs want to stick to the warm wall on the outside. I understand it is outdoor, but it also shows the lack of thought put into the locations of all the outdoor seating. I will definitely be returning after COVID or do take out instead of dining in or eatting outside
Had the poke tuna 👍 the short rib sandwich 👌 and the chicken wings...ehh..a bit too sweet prefer the buffalo variety. Nice ginger beer from Scotland and sangria was nice too. Nice selection of craft beer, good wine list and attentive staff with unusual and well presented comfort food fusion at affordable prices make this unassuming dinner a local gem. 1 star off for the screaming kids in the booths on either side. Not the eateries fault but did dampen the experience. Not the best place to take the kiddies as this is labeled as a gastro pub but I felt sympathy for the single dad with 3 toddlers. I did my time. lol
She had an Indian lentil stew and I had a Bánh mì sandwich, choice of chicken, pulled pork or tofu. Both meals were excellent! Menu could have been larger but if you're looking for appetizers and craft beers then this is your place. But we were just looking for dinner. (Photo shows grilled tofu)
First visit. Great service, good beer, great food. I ordered a vegetarian banh mi sandwich, the bread was very crunchy and good and the contents were flavorful and packed good heat. I would come here again.
Food was great, service was great. Parking is a bit different. 2 cars decided to make their own parking space and made it difficult to get out of our spot. Completely blocking the handicapped parking.

The wait staff was excellent, the Bánh mì was good as well. The hard kombucha was flat and watered down. I’ve had Dal Tadka, Chana Dal, Masoor Dal, never had a Dal recipe that was a mix of lentil and kidney beans?
