Great place to study, good coffee and sandwiches. Parking is an issue (This is just the nature of this neighborhood) but if you can find some it’s a good option to go. They serve you fast, so if you’re just interested in coming in and grabbing a coffee then it’s perfect. Would absolutely recommend.
A cool place to come work, chat with a friend, read a book or just chill and enjoy a beverage from their extensive menu. I had the Almond joy which gave me the flavors I wanted without being overly sugary, syrupy sweet. The breakfast frittata was delish. Not a dessert place, but you can find something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Most everything made fresh by them.
My main reason for stopping in was to use the print kiosk; however, I decided to grab a 12 ounce French roast. I'm glad I did. Dark but not bitter. Not too acidic. The atmosphere of this cafe is awesome. Some cool art posted for sale. Fair price on the coffee. It was less than $3 before tip. Cashier was really friendly in answering my questions. Thanks!
Unique atmosphere that's definitely befitting the name Lestat, I couldn't believe there's a 24hour cafe. Warm, inviting, and quiet. Makes you wonder if actual vampires come and get their morning coffee here.
I absolutely love Lestats! This is the best location - parking is easy and the inside has air conditioning. Great place to grab a coffee and pastry and spend hours reading or studying. Prices are very competitive with other coffee places in San Diego, but the coffee here is way better. So much to try on the menu, and they have really good quiche if you get hungry.
This is a great local place... A serious alternative to Starbucks for sure. It's just down the street from my office and I visit a few times a month. I really appreciate the friendly service, and the high quality of the coffee and food. They have great sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch, and I almost always order a medium cafe mocha. The decor is artsy and comfortable. They also display the work of local artist in the walls. They offer free Wi-Fi and because it's a large place, you don't feel uncomfortable if you want to stay for a while and get some work done. Check them out next time you are in University Heights.
I stopped by this place for a quick bite. It was late in afternoon and the place was randomly filled with scattered people working on their laptops or chatting. It’s a full laid back and casual place. I usually stop drinking coffee after lunch hour, so couldn’t drink that. I had a frittata and that was pretty good. However, I felt 5$ is a little pricy for the piece that I had. However I will return to this place for my morning coffee soon.
Very nice coffee shop. 24 hours which is amazing. Staff is a bit cold and unfriendly. Drinks/food are more expensive here. Lots of seating usually, and relatively quiet.
Dude at the counter seemed mad as hell that I was even ordering. but I guess thats just part of the experience. Almost impossible to find parking around a 1 mile radius, drinks are expensive but quite tasty, and a good late night study location. It does feel a little dark in there.
Great spot for late night students and early morning locals. It fills up and sometimes you may share a table for 4 with another person, unknown. IT'S OK! Sharing is caring. Just split the table and get busy. This cafe is cool.
It's a good, funky hangout, but the previous 2 times I've visited in the early morning, it's been staffed by a single person who is about 5'8" tall, dark hair, and ALWAYS flustered, and frankly rude and short. I don't blame him as the one Lestata thinks that one single person can operate a coffee house this large with all the customers. They REALLY NEED TO ADD A MINIMUM of one extra staff person to help shoulder the load. That guy always seems on the brink of a meltdown. He also announces it's gonna be a 20 to 30 minute wait to get anything prepared in the kitchen. The coffee itself is somewhat middling. Not memorable, but drinkabLe at best. The only advantage of this place is the hours they are open and the kitschy vibe.
The staff is always extremely friendly and warm. My cup had more foam than latte, the last time i was here. Such a great spot to study and work though!
Edit: Edit: This is a Good place to go, too. I like you guys & I like coming here. It’s Strange because I gave yall a 5 Star Review, only for me to be ignored, dismissed, treated badly today. That wasn’t cool. And, it’s not okay. And, makes me feel uncomfortable to return…… It was bad energy and inconsistent vibes and customer service. I have to stand up for myself. And, I will always stand up for myself. It makes me feel uncomfortable that I pointed out one of the dudes treatment and he continues to be mean towards me and dismissive…..I don’t think I’ll be returning to this location, unfortunately. I know I’m a lady and deserve to be treated respectfully. I smiled at him to show friendliness, only to be met w an angry and serious look…. So, I’m getting punished for standing up for myself here, for the bad vibes I’m getting, that I don’t deserve, in the first place, from this person who works here. Handing my drink to me, without any engagement and walking away fast, without looking up to me was mean. This all was manipulation. . . Edit: One of the dudes was being a little mean to me. . . Note: Please don’t be mean, I am for you guys :) . . I did appreciate the free drink when I came here. Nick was also cool and yes I’ve been a long time fan of Lestat’s. Love the young lady that works here, too. Edit: Ok. I went back and Honestly, this is a great cafe. Instead of 2 Stars, I gave 4. But, it deserves a 5. I took 1 Star out coz I said “Bye” when I left and felt dismissed. . . in that moment coz I was ignored. ;p Or, when one of the dudes made me wait a little when I was ready to order. I do not condone this. But, he has been sweet, as well. And, is very hard-working. This place deserves a 5 star, overall. And, the employees have been cool with me (so far :3) and shown a welcoming and friendly interaction, as well, and are interesting people. :) I appreciated the effort made and respectful convo given today. I acknowledge the efforts. But, I have to stand up for myself about the other stuff, too. Old Review: Just wanted to share… that I know it’s been smoothed over and all. But, I want to write this review for the Manager or Owner, (I think he was one or the other ) Just a message to him to Please keep things professional, not letting emotions escalate because I did feel uncomfortable with the interaction I had with him, at first, even if it was smoothed over. …But, I don’t want to have another one that would cause any discomforts. This is a great, indie cafe…And, the 2 people I have interacted w her one of very hardworking and the other gal is sweet. And, so I appreciate your business and would just like to keep things respectful and professional moving forward. Thank you for your business.
I've never liked the coffee here but I come because my colleague likes the spot and it's a midway point for us. I usually just get tea. Today, the cashier working (a man with greying hair who seems to hate his job) jumped on me because he thought I'd gone in with coffee. He started naming policies that supposedly prohibit me from going into a coffee shop with coffee - made a scene. Had he instead asked me what I was drinking, I could have told him it was a protein shake - caffeine free! I don't expect outstanding customer service of anyone, but I also don't think it's appropriate to harass patrons without asking if they're even doing what you think they're doing. The kicker was once my colleague arrived, I told him what happened and he said he's come in here with actual coffee and nobody has ever harassed him for it. Anyway, there are better and nicer (including personality-wise) coffee spots in the city. Go to Lovesong, Provecho!, Coffee & Tea Collective, Holsem. And cashiers there are kind.
Tbh lestats is a hit or miss. It has 2 bathrooms and most of the time they're functioning but in more than a handful of occasions only one of them works bc people mistreat the restrooms and then they have to close them down for maintenance. And they're not open on holidays 😒 their hours are funky and do not match google maps 🙄 😑 😒 for the most part they will be open just don't expect to use their restrooms at any hour including 6am. They don't have to offer restrooms all the time at all hours as they generously do but I'm pointing out you can't reliably count on using their restrooms anytime you show up even if they're 24 hours. They've made more of an effort to clean them so I think that's why they closed them. The writing on the walls is gone.
I went to Lestat’s to grab a sandwich and coffee while I studied. I’ve worked in restaurants for years and I’m a generous tipper, but one of the counter guys here is consistently hostile. When I declined a soda, he rolled his eyes and spoke down to me. Sitting nearby, I watched him belittle and snap at other employees, which was uncomfortable and honestly gross to witness. This isn’t new — every time I’ve seen him working he’s dismissive and demeaning. The vibe he creates is toxic enough that I didn’t even want to eat the food I paid for. You’ll know him if you’ve been here: tall (around six feet), heavy-set, usually wearing a hat and tight shirt, always behind the counter acting like he’s in charge. Management needs to step in — no café should let one angry staffer poison the atmosphere for guests and coworkers.
Yoooooo, having the bathroom like a gas station in the middle of nowhere is absolutely unacceptable. It’s disgusting and it makes you think that this Lestat’s isn’t clean while preparing their food and drinks. BAD
Came at 12am on a Monday. Abysmal service. Worst chai latte I’ve ever had in my life. Unhoused, non patrons on the couch so I couldn’t even sit there. This place has really gone downhill. Never again.
The overnight service is horrible. A person with white hair was disrespectful and mean. They charged extra compared to day shift and other locations for the same drinks. They don't listen well, and made us repeat our order multiple times. I suggest going to another location, or during the day when they aren't working, or somewhere else entirely.
The overnight barista with white hair is very rude and lies. Terrible service, the food they made was bad, and the drink was half full. They need an attitude adjustment, and better training. I won't be coming back at night. It's terrible because this is the only 24 hour one of the Le Stats locations. The others are not 24 hours. That one employee ruined this spot.
