This was our first time trying Pita 22 and I was impressed. At first I was a little leery as a lot of American Greek/Mediterranean food is too Americanized for me. I've been overseas to the area a few times and had local versions of Mediterranean food and this compared very well. I had the chicken shawarma plate and it was fabulous. (Apologies for the kitchen table but we did take out.) The chicken was seasoned perfectly and juicy, plus there salt of it. It came with tahini sauce, hummus, Mediterranean coleslaw, house salad, pita bread and either rice or fries. It was a lot of food! The homemade pita bread was oh so good! The owner /operator was there and he was super nice and courteous. We are going back and soon! Edit: We ordered a catered meal for Mother's Day and it was a big hit! Despite having a lot of hungry mouths, we had a lot of left overs due to the generous portion sizes. I am going to do this again! They did offer to provide napkins and utensils, but we declined.
We ordered the delicious platter and got a great sense of the variety of foods available. We especially enjoyed the feta fries and hummus dip. Additionally, Jordan and Jessica were the stars of the show. They were incredibly helpful in helping us make an informed decision, provided us with prompt and courteous service, and thanked us for our business. My friend Kamran and I shall come here nearly every Friday.
I consider this the best breakfast in at least a 5 mile radius. The flavors are delicious. My favorite is the cucumber and tomato salad, but the yogurt parfait is the best I’ve had in San Diego. My son loves the Nutella French toast and fresh squeezed orange juice. The labne is also fantastic.
The staff was very polite, professional and funny. The food was really good. I got the Kaboburger in a pita. It was amazing. Kendyl was a fantastic cashier. When she found out that it was my birthday, she gave me a tasty treat. Chocolate and caramel. Delicious! The owners should be very proud of this shop! If you want an incredible pita, this is the place!
We’ve been frequent customers of Pita22 in Torrey Highlands for the past three years, and it continues to be one of our favorite spots. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful and satisfying and the service is just as impressive. A special shoutout to Jessica, the manager, who always goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. She’s incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating which makes each visit even better. My go-to orders are the chicken shawarma in a pita and the chicken shawarma rice/quinoa bowl. My husband’s new favorite dish is the schnitzel Shawarma in a pita. They are both absolutely delicious. We recently brought a friend along for the first time and she was blown away by both the food and the attentive service. Soon she will be taking her husband there as well. Pita22 is a gem! We will definitely keep coming back and recommending it to everyone we know!
Updating this review for 2025: Jessica, the manager, is incredible--she went above-and-beyond to make sure that our visit was amazing. I mentioned how I missed one of my favorite dishes from Pita 22 (the breakfast pita with eggs, turkey ham, and jalapeños) and she was so helpful in pointing out that they had turkey ham back in stock and could work out making the dish for me. I'm certain that they serve THE BEST pita, and THE BEST Baba ganoush in San Diego. Prove me wrong and I'll pay for your next dish. ############### Prior review: Delighted to have a delicious new restaurant in the neighborhood. We tried two pita dishes and they were beautiful, flavorful, and satisfying. And the pita is amazing. The labneh appetizer with spiced and toasted pita is a must-try. They make their own in-house, and it shows.
We were looking for a quick vegan dinner and Pita 22 totally hit the spot! It’s a nicely designed counter service restaurant with breakfast, lunch and dinner options for all dietary needs including vegan and gluten-free. My husband and I received fast, excellent service. Since it was our first visit we chose to share “Salad 22” which is a sampler of falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, tahini sauce, fried eggplant and house salad served with homemade pita. It’s all vegan by default - no changes needed - and every single item of the sampler was mouth-watering! It was plenty of food for the two of us, and we will definitely be back for this. All of the items in the sampler are also available by the pound for catering, which is awesome.
Pita 22 helped us out immensely for a recent, catered corporate lunch. The food was so delicious, we had everything delivered on time and in easily managed containers, and the quantity of food was beyond generous. Everyone was raving about how delicious everything tasted. Highly recommend whether you’re catering a meal or looking to grab a bite.
We found this place by chance after an entire biking morning, and it was a great surprise. Very good food and service! The staff was very friendly, and we even got some complimentary hummus and pita bread, on the house. We'll be back! 😃
Always a positive experience at Pita22 with every staff member. They’re courteous, friendly and generous with their food portions.
Jessica and the team at Pita 22 are serving up some of the best pitas in San Diego. If you are looking for great service and great food this is the place to go. Even the takeout orders are woth it! Enjoy!
We had such a wonderful experience at this amazing Israeli restaurant in San Diego! Our whole family came together for a meal, and everything — from the fresh, flavorful food to the warm atmosphere — was just perfect. A special shout-out to Jessica, who gave us truly outstanding service. She made us feel so welcome and taken care of, like family. No doubt about it — we’ll definitely be back again soon. Highly recommended!
Everything is absolutely delicious, the service is amazing, the quality of the food is excellent. Portion size is generous. I drive from Escondido just to come here. It is amazing.
PHENOMENAL. The staff was so kind and helpful. The two ladies at the front deserve a trophy I haven’t had this amazing level of customer service in a while. The food was also so amazing and fresh. Give the staff a raise they are on point!
Amazing healthy and tasty food. The sauces are spicy and so good! Great catering service
An amazing spot me and me friedns stop for some fresh food and Got more than that with Great service and a family style care Which we needed for our 10 hr trip back to the Bay Area Definitely come by here for an amazing experience an Fresh food
Right when you step, You are greeted with a wonderful smile from Jessica. And her advice to customers about the food for a new comer is just the beginning. The food has always been the best in terms of its quality and the taste. The salads are always fresh so are the sauces. The Pita that’s been served are the best. While all the places have flat pita bread what makes it special in Pita 22 is the puffed ones that’s soft to eat. The portions are quite good too.
One of our favorite places in SD. Staff is so wonderful, especially Jessica. She is so friendly and accommodating and just a wonderful spirit. We love the food! It’s all so fresh and tasty. Great options for meat eaters and vegans. Highly recommend the Salad 22! So much fun stuff to try. The portobello shawarma special is also wonderful, if it’s available. We love you, Pita 22!
Magic! Came in with zero expectations. ( no beef here.) pun intended lol chicken, lamb, gyro. Ordered the Shawarma plate. Not like any I’ve had. Fully cooked but sooo soft, the pita knocks it out of the park. 2nd time in. I was remembered, treated like family. Had a lamb kabob and the Vegetarian Portobello 🍄🟫 Shawarma. Amazing 🤩 Everything was fresh and delicious. Portions are big. This authentic family place. Magic! 🪄
So so yummy!!! The pita bread is the best, all the veggies are so tasty, the hummus to die for. You can’t go wrong, anything you order is simply delicious 😋
Wonderful food and great service. The manager is charge was kind and attentive, provided thoughtful suggestions regarding family style menu. The lamb is amazing, the stake was really tender. Will be returning!
Great Gluten-free options, incredibly fresh, and please try ALL three dipping sauces. Each sauce is unique and ranges from fresh to spicy HOT, so dip sparingly during your tester phase. Each entree was amazing, you will find a winner salad and a mouth-watering bowl. You can choose a vegan option or a variety of meats, we appreciated the gyro meat and VGF beanballs.
Loved this restaurant! It’s hard to find such authentic middle eastern food in the area. A diamond in the desert…
We had such a lovely dining experience at Pita 22. Joseph was quick to talk to us and suggested options when I mentioned that we wanted to eat vegan food. We wound up getting the Salad 22 as per his recommendation, with an extra pita and a couple of falafel. This was perfect for our family of 3. The variety of dishes was fantastic, the food was fresh and delicious, and we were satiated at the end of the meal. I ordered the baklava ice cream after for my parents to have as dessert as they are not vegan while I am, and Joseph was so kind to specify that it wasn't vegan friendly, based off of our previous conversation. It's little things like these that really take a dining experience to the next level, and it was much appreciated! We'd highly recommend Pita 22 and will definitely be back!
We had the pleasure of being transported to the Mediterranean on a recent hosted experience at the amazing restaurant Pita 22 in San Diego, California ☀️ Jessica, the manager, was an absolute delight and did not disappoint with her recommendations. Each dish is made in-house and packed with flavor and freshness. With generous portion sizes, each bite left us satisfied, yet craving more. Here’s what we loved: 👉 harissa sauce: spicy, bold flavor that packs a punch in every bite 👉 the pita was fluffy and soft and our 8-year-old happily gobbled them up with the delicious hummus 👉 the hummus fries were fun and flavorful 👉 the falafel salad was a delightful combination of fresh vegetables and flavor-packed quinoa and rice that left all of us wanting more 👉 the vegan portobello pita sandwich was delightfully delicious and satisfying, especially to our mushroom loving 5-year-old 👉 the shakshuka was savory perfection The menu is extensive and adaptable and is sure to satisfy any flavor palette and desire. 😋 It’s in a fantastic location in a shopping plaza with ample parking. All tables were full at lunch hour with a constant stream of customers and it didn’t feel overcrowded and busy. The vibe is modern with a cozy twist, with family photos and plants throughout. 🪴 This kitchen has done a lovely job adding plenty of plant-based items to the menu that are packed with freshness and flavor. We highly recommend and can’t wait to go back 👏🏻 #hosted #mediterraneancuisine #greekfood #familyownedrestaurant #plantbasedfood #culinaryadventure
Arrived on Sunday morning and we had the Breakfast which served (unfortunately) only on Saturdays and Sunday.. Has the Eggs Benedict it was the best one I’ve had in my life! Check the photos, highly recommended ❤️🔥
Very nice place here with a big menu. I ordered a plain chicken shawarma bowl with quinoa. Was a huge bowl and very good price. Staff was very friendly and this Pita 22 has a nice atmosphere. Plenty of parking in this small shopping district.
Wow it was delicious! I really don't like trying new places but this I won't regret trying... the taste is so fresh and delicious especially their bread ! Price is perfect and the manager Jessica was so sweet and professional and so patient describing every flavor, detail, and name of our order sooo worth coming back for sure!!!!
The food here was just excellent! The pitas are special and fluffy, the mesabaha was awesome, the schnitzel was great and thin as it should be. The lamb skewer came out a little over done, but overall it was all great, good atmosphere and service, and the prices are really reasonable 👌

I cannot say enough good things about Pita 22. We drive all the way out from Carlsbad because we love it so much and get it at least once a month. The food is fresh, flavorful, and healthy. The staff is so welcoming, you feel like you're seeing friends every time you come in. We typically get the hummus bowls with lamb. On my last visit, I got to try the labneh with the seasoned pita. It was literally life-changing. Probably one of my favorite appetizers ever. They make the labneh from scratch and it is super flavorful. Perfect combination with the warm spiced pitas. You really can't go wrong ordering anything on their menu though.
Huge fan of Pita 22. First and foremost, all the food we've tried has been delicious. Amazing pita, smooth and tasty hummus, tender and juicy chicken schwarma, flavorful gyro meat, and more. I also recommend the red hot sauce, and appreciate that it's actually spicy! Customer service is also great. Staff remembered us on just our second visit, a month after the first time. The team is friendly and helpful. This has quickly become maybe our favorite restaurant in the area.
Family-owned Mediterranean restaurant! The food flavors and portion sizes have been consistently great every time I’ve visited. The freshly made hot pita, creamy hummus, and falafel are, of course, so good — but what really makes them stand out are their side sauces (red chili, mango, green chili, and sesame), which they offer free of charge. The shakshuka and baba ghanoush are also excellent. Salad 22 is a great option to share for a group of five. Highly recommended overall.
As I sit and eat at my favorite lunch spot in town (regular customer), I watch people walk in, and the first thing they say is that it’s their first time here. All I can think in that moment is—oh boy, you’re about to unlearn everything you thought you knew about Mediterranean food. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend their lamb bowl with quinoa. Or, if you’re a fan of good chicken, go for the chicken shawarma pita. Ask for a side of tahini and green sauce. Sit down and enjoy every bite—fresh, fresh, fresh. Thanks, guys. You’re doing amazing!
100% recommended. Super clean, amazing and really friendly staff. They are very well aware of Celiac disease and help accommodate with care. Especially Jessica is amazing and her knowledge on Celiac makes our experience fantastic!!
Stopped in for lunch while out looking at houses. Food was phenomenal, all the sauces were so good and the lovely girl working the from was incredible and truly seemed proud of where she worked (I wish I remembered her name). Fortunately we got a house very near by and will become regulars.
Food has been exceptional every time we’ve been. The only dish we’ve tried that we wouldn’t give 5⭐️s was the shakshuka. Maybe it was because we had it to-go and it would have been better eaten hot there. Otherwise, we love Pita 22. Nice group of people, great food, good variety, priced appropriately. Dishes are mostly under $20 but we usually order a couple extra so we can split them and have leftovers for the kids’ lunches.

The food was really good I must say. The hummus was great. The plate came with good sides of salad. Added a lamb kebab skewer and that was delicious too. The food is actually 5 star. Took off a star because the service and the ambience was lacking a bit. The lady who took our order was not that friendly or helpful and they also forgot one of the items on the order so had to ask them and they checked their records and then promptly served. We sat on the tables outside as was but hot inside and also not very inviting. All said food is really good and definitely worth a visit or more.
Trying new things, I opted for some Mediterranean cuisine. Enjoyed my lamb&fries with their “hot sauce”. Only downside was when ordering “to go”, I usually need napkins because I’m on the road…got none. Also, the temperature in their dining room must’ve been 85* at least. Too hot to enjoy food there if you ask me. I’d stop in again if driving by.
Excellent food, not a full service restaurant but staff are friendly and helpful. Cean, casual, a little noisy but comfortable dining room.
Nice refreshing place. Pita bread was excellent. Falafel bowl was pretty good. Shakshuka could have been better.
