Fish burrito with lime and salsa was bomb! Don't forget to try the Salsa Picante ("extra hot" but not really). There's the non-spicy salsa that was perfect! And for the less adventurous, no worries, they have mild sauce as well (green and red). Bring the fam after shopping in Mission Valley East near Fashion Valley. I meant to take-out but stayed for the experience.
Sombrero Mexican food is Very food and fast! I often come here when I shop at ROSS nearby! And they aways are fast and efficient! They staff are also so awesome! They have a giant parking lot too so it's super easy to find parking! Aswell as tons of seating outside and inside! Highly recommend!!
Always a wonderful experience. Safe Clean Environment. Friendly hospitable front house. Salsa condiments/bar menu is classic.
Sombreros is my favorite stop after a busy day at the office! Always delicious! Love the tacos, enchiladas and menudo!
I love Sombrero I started eating here because of blink-182, I visited the one in Poway and it’s rad! Everyone at every Sombrero I’ve been to have been nice, the food is delicious and with the portions the price is good. Only complaint I have is that I’m horribly addicted to their carne asada burritos.
Great food and service I only found this restaurant because I was watching a blink-182 video and I decided I would come try this place out and it was soooo good
I always get great service and the most authentic Mexican food and generous portions for the best price here. They never complain that I take too long at the salsa bar making too many to-go self-serve salsas for my order. OH…also they have the most palatable salsa verde outside of my own homemade salsa. I love Sombrero on Rio San Diego. OH!!! Every penny I spend goes towards future purchases when I give them my phone number or pay in the app! ¡Viva Sombrero!
Amazing veggie burrito and salsas. Friendly staff and service too.
Great little place. Signed up for my birthday. Got a shrimp burrito on my birthday. It was HUGE. They skimp on anything. They're open late and have freshly made salsa that's hot or mild as you like. Their menudo is pretty good but they forgot my tortillas. Check them out.
We came right before the dinner crowd and the food was great. Note, the tacos are huge, these are not street taco size (I ordered 3 and regretted it when the food arrived, ha!). The pollo asada taco was my favorite and they put a reasonable amount of guac on each one. Quick, easy and yummy! They have some kind of rewards program into the person I was with got a free burrito for their birthday.
Food is always hot and fresh, fast service, place is always clean, great friendly staff.
I have been coming to this location for over 20 years, since my job is across the street. But that is coming to an end as we move locations soon. This particular Sombrero and its staff has been excellent, food superb, and after 20 years I'm just now finding out about their secret menu of chicken flautas and more was shocking. The place is always clean, even though I take my breakfast or lunch back to the office. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this location.
Great food, none better amount of plenty Agsin all the best! Don't miss out!,next time you See their sign get some great deals & good
Great food, clean atmosphere, and very kind people, is all you could ask for! Very well, pleased!
Great taqueria! 🌮 Strip mall taco joints can be sketchy, but they’re legit! Fast, friendly service & yummy food 🤤 this time I got a $10.99 Fiesta meal, which comes with a 🌮 taco, “mini” 🌯 burrito, chips & 🥤 drink. Their salsa bar is perfect & love that they have salsa fresca! Enough for two meals.
California Surpreme burrito was fantastic. Cooked and served fresh. Employee was really nice and supervisor was training and managing new employee very professionally. It’s been a few years since I’ve been here but it tastes just as good as I remember!
Hands down, Sombreros isn't just my favorite Mexican spot in San Diego, it's my absolute favorite restaurant overall! This particular location truly stands out as the best I've found. It's incredibly refreshing to discover a place that offers consistently hot, incredibly tasty, and genuinely high-quality food without breaking the bank. The fact that it's always clean is just the icing on the cake, making it a rare gem. Top-notch experience every time!
The food is very good here. I did enjoyed the atmosphere, plenty of seating inside or outside and a good salsa bar. The staff was very nice too.

Large portions, great service, first time here, we will be back!
I put in an online order. On the way to dropping my son off at school, I swung by and picked up the order. I thought I got there too early, so I was gonna wait 10 minutes. But I went up to the counter and told her what I was waiting for, and it was ready! That made me a very happy camper!!!!!!!
I been living in this area mission valley for almost 4 years and this is the best Mexican restaurant in this area and never misses the Carne Asada burritos and everything they have always taste good 10/10 it has to do a lot with the cooks the cashier how clean they keep that area I love it We go once a week to eat here me and my husband and my family. They don’t have nothing like this in this area or south or north we always love this Mexican place. We are Mexican Chicanos And I gotta say that it’s amazing we never ever regret it not to mention the Menudo oh my goodness it’s so good and they have an amazing polite staff too I love it that way it should be
We always get takeout. The atmosphere is just café standard nothing special. But the food is worth eating a couple of times a week because it’s really fantastic.
Excellent food great price for the quality and very friendly atmosphere salsa bar is amazing and very fresh highly recommend the surf and turf cali burrito so worth the price....@}---,'-----
Your employees are so great! They are professional and fun. I even get a nod from the cooks! Yes...I have visited Sombreros quite a lot. Great food and service. So convenient to be able to call in the order and just pick up!
The food here is always delicious. The restaurant is very clean and there are plenty of seating available inside and outside.
I’ve been going to the mission valley location since they opened in 1997ish. As I worked in the area I would find time to stop by for lunch 2-3 times a week. That should tell you that they are doing something right. Quick and friendly service, good salsas to choose from and of course great food!!! Jason, the restaurant manager, has been there from day one as well. Great guy!! Thanks for all the years of delicious food!! Mike J

Solid California burrito. Heavy on the sour cream, a bit too much tortilla, and overall the ingredients weren’t melted fully together so one star away from that. Otherwise it had all the right elements to make a good burrito (guac, excellent salsa choices, good meat, fresh fries)
California burrito is huge, okay, but it's not only the most important thing in the dish. The Beef was dry and barely warm. Fries the same. Good thing that I added sourcream, but it was added so small, and it's paid extra :( Usually, I don't add any salsas bcuz I love origin tastes, but this time, I had to IDK maybe they just tired after a long day, I was 7:00 pm, but it is what it is..
Sombrero Mexican Food has locations throughout San Diego. I stopped in after a meeting to grab a quick bite. The food is good and the service is great. If you have a craving or need to grab lunch - this is a great place.

I always buy the food here, it's very good, but I don't know if they changed cooks because the portions are very small.
I only came in since I was waiting to be called at Urgent Care. I ordered their "bowl deal." I am not sure what customer audience they're trying to appeal to, or if it's not a Mexican owner, but this food was not good. I got their healthy chicken bowl, and it was disgusting. The taste of the pulled chicken was decent in flavor, but overall, the bowl was not good. An abundant amount of iceberg lettuce made this really watery and too unrighfully crunchy, on top of the chicken being watery, which makes sense, it just turned into a runny chicken bowl. The finely grated yellow cheese poured on top and gave it a weird texture that just made the whole thing wet and slippery. Hardly any beans, no rice. This is a down-scaled Mexican "themed" food place for Pochosand gringos. It's not real Mexican food. They play Cielito Lindo, so you feel like you're at your Hacienda in Mexico 😂 I'd risk flatulence from Taco Bell before coming in here again. Take a bit more pride in your culture and flavor and I can see this getting better.
Service is as a 5/10, the food 1/10 cheeses tasted like fridge, chips where way to big.. also they are supposed to be supreme but it looked just like regular serving, meat tasted bagged not fresh… over all for 19$ not worth it. But it’s in a beautiful location.

About a month ago at this location, I think it was May 18th, 2024 I found this piece of cardboard in my food from this location after eating into it after a while. Usually great food, and it seems like something from packing fell in. But when I went to the register they reimbursed me only partially my bill and I gave them back the food. I would have wanted a full refund for my entire bill, but they still wanted to charge me for my chips. I hope management sees this and cleans up the kitchen a bit. I do like the food, but this was sad to experience. Mission valley location.
Ordered on door dash & was very disappointed. Taco came with no salsa, tamales came with no salsa and I’m certain the masa was frozen the way it crumbles. Rice tasted as if they used old cooking oil to make it. I’m just ready for this trip to be over so I can get back to Texas where TexMex is the BEST.
