Tip: If you're in the Financial District, it's a reasonably priced option for lunch and dessert. The mocha is yummmm and reasonably priced.

Ordered a custom duches des leches cake with a print on top. Really great, it was $66 for the cake and then the total came up to $97 with the print added and taxes and everything. Turnaround time was 4 days excluding weekend. One recommendation, for the print, it’s okay to instruct the customer or put on website that you accept circle images only. It will just speed up communications. But the cafe was very quick to respond to all emails.
This was the only bakery that was willing to help with a custom cheesecake and they CRUSHED it. Absolutely beautiful and tasty pistachio cheesecake with raspberry crème on top. They were friendly, accommodating, and the price was good. Highly recommend.
I actually was a bit worried when walked into cafe Madeleine because all of your 1 star review. But I just need some desserts to go, so I bought a box of 4. The staff is busy but friendly, they gave me suggestions for the most popular cake. Each cake is $7, I think it's a really good deal in downtown SF. & I have to tell you, it tastes like heaven. Love it. Now it will be my go to place for dessert after Henry's Hunan at Nantoma St.
Any place that has a solid lunch for under $15 in 2024 is a win in my book- it helps that cafe Madeline's chicken pot pie also might be one of the best pot pies I've had. A nice chicken medley with a great flakey crust. And it comes with a salad?? What's not to love? The folks working the counter are always pleasant and of course they also sell all sorts of sweet treats.
It had a really good cold veggies sandwich with all the roasted veggies and hummus inside it. The mango cake was next level and the almomd chocolate crossaint was one of its kind.
The mocha was yummmm and so reasonably priced!! Definitely returning to try other items on the menu.
Clean small bakery cafe with a variety of pastries and sandwiches. I had the huge biscuit sandwich with egg, cheese and ham. Very good and filling. Also had a nice large hot oolong tea. Bistro seating inside and outside.
I always end up with the most delicious meals from here. They're super reasonably priced for the financial district and if you feel like treating yourself to a Monday dessert for lunch, they're heaven.
Love this place!!! Everything on the menu is delicious - love their sandwiches, drinks, and the desserts are incredible, high quality, and made with so much love! 💖 Highly recommend.

I was in town visiting and came here multiple times because it was so good. The service was quick and the ube croissant was incredible. Just the right amount of sweetness. It's hard to wow me with a tea, but their English Breakfast was excellent.
Pastries are so good, not too sweet just perfect!!!
One of the best lunch cafes around. Their baked goods and sandwiches are made in house and are delicious. The staff is also lovely.
Got the matcha cake with passion fruit curd! Everyone loved it!

Delicious little desserts. However the lemon bar's crust tasted not quite cooked. The rest from the double chocolate to the green tea dessert were amazing!

My building has Cafe Madeleine pastries delivered everyday. I really love the almond cream filled pastry, but it’s very inconsistent. Many times there is very little filling. Like almost non-existent. Other times there is a lot of filling and it’s amazing. Would love to see lots of filling every day. It makes the pastry sooooo good and bursting with flavor! Also, please bring back the chocolate filled pastry! The replacement you started using a couple of years ago is no where near as good!
Definitely an excellent lunch and coffee place to try in the area! I might prefer getting it to go though. The lasagna was one of the best vegetarian lasagnas I have ever tried - and I love lasagna. I highly recommend it. The americano was delicious - the right amount of depth and smoke. It helped me when I was running on a few hours of sleep after a long trip! The tiramisu, however, was just meh. Given this is a patisserie-style place, that was disappointing. Maybe skip dessert or try something else. The service was a bit lacking though - I don't know why but the person at the counter was only half-listening and I had to repeat myself a few times. I even started wondering if I was speaking nonsense due to sleep deprivation but nope. Any other interaction I had with the servers here all felt hurried as well, which put a damper on the experience as a whole. So long story short: get lunch + coffee for sure. But don't expect great service.

My friend ordered a few things from this place via DoorDash and brought the macarons & yule log (Bûche De Noël) to our small holiday gathering. So my rating is purely based on this experience. For a different kind of holiday celebration, we decided to eat the sweets first before diving into the savory dishes. We went for the macarons first. I love how the macarons all have cream fillings and tasted good. Meanwhile, I thought it was interesting that they were of various sizes. One friend, however, wasn't having fun with them. About 10 minutes after eating the macarons. she had to go use the restroom. She ate only the red colored ones. Since the four of us all ate the macarons and we were fine, we determined that it was the heavy red coloring that cause her tummy trouble. I tried a little red colored macarons. Just like my friend, I could taste the bitterness in the shells. The bitterness usually results from heavy usage of the food coloring. I could see why my friend reacted to it, because even 2 hours after eating the macarons, my tongue was still pink due to the food coloring. The yule log was big and looked good, but tasted super sweet and the cake was dry. I had a holiday sweet craving; so I ate 2 half-inch wide slices of yule log, while everyone else ate 1 slice. It reminded me of the cheaply made cakes from supermarkets. This time, I was the one not having fun. Within 30 minutes of eating the cake, I got diarrhea, which is one of the side effects of eating high-sugar food. This is the first time I experienced something like this when eating pastries from a bakery. Conclusion, I would never buy food from this café.
Disappointing to enter this spot as a highly rated French café. Quiet rundown as seen in photos, not very clean and service could not have been more indifferent. Lunch menu is very similar to any other salad assembly place that is a chain. Nothing could be less inviting than this café as you could see from the photos being served in paper box and bags. In addition the insult of paying for a cup of water. A complete had been...

Editing my 5 star review down, unfortunately. Their quality, quantity and service has gone down while their prices have increased. I used to love how much care they gave to making lattes perfectly frothed but now they just seem to be slumping milk and espresso shots together. Their quiche used to be amazing - fluffy, high quality, with a crispy crust - and now they are soggy and barely any toppings in them (also smaller portion). The last several times I have gotten desserts or pastries they have been either stale (you know that taste of old croissants) or undercooked, like a review mentions below. What a shame.

Dessert had mold inside. Initially I thought it was simply dry, you can see from the photo that it did not deform from inserting the fork. After a few bites, it smelled and tasted odd, I looked at the cake and realized it was the smell of a moldy bread and that indeed there was mold inside.

Ordered a cold brew. I watched the barista as she ran out of liquid, thought about what to do, and proceed to add MORE ice to fill up the cup. I paid $6 for flavored ice. Please stay away from here. The employees don’t care at all.
