Congrats to Chuck’s Takeaway on bringing refinement to the humble banh mi sandwich! I was happy to see they were open on Presidents’ Day and stopped by early afternoon. It was a small but friendly storefront with a small counter to eat in. I ordered the #3, a peanut butter cookie, and an iced coffee. What struck me immediately was the fresh herbs and veggies and the bold clean flavors of the pork and pate. This was all encapsulated by a crisp flaky baguette that had a soft interior. You could tell that the employees took pride in working for the business. They were friendly and answered questions. I’m looking forward to trying something else on the menu on my next visit!

Great sandwiches. Got the CP’s #3 and the Veggie Wurster Hall. Bread is excellent - light and airy, but with a shell-thin crust that crackles with every bite. Filling is generous, and you can tell that the pâté and pork cha are made in-house; they’re fresh and flavourful. The bunches of fresh herbs cut the richness perfectly, as do the pickled veggies that come on the side, though I wonder why they aren’t just inside the sandwich so that every bite is perfect. Also got a gombo-ppang, a Korean streusel bun, a relative of the family of pastries which includes bolo bao, melon pan, and concha. This was filled with a very delicious peanut butter cream. Service is warm, professional, and kind. Vietnamese iced coffee is great. Be sure to check out their selection of home goods. I got a chili oil which I’m excited to try.

My vegetarian eggplant sandwich was delicious. It is extra expensive but that’s how it goes in this town. My friend and I ordered online separately. Our sandwiches were estimated to take two hours but his were done at noon and mine were done at around 1225 even though I put my order in a few minutes before his. The estimated time they’d be ready was 1245. So anyway I think they’re just starting up and they’re very busy so don’t be too big of a rush

cute sandwich shop that opened recently! came during lunch and there was a bit of a wait since they just opened, but definitely worth trying still. sandwiches are very well balanced – fresh bread, fresh meat, plenty of vegetables. if I'm in the area for lunch, I'll be back!

This place is so damn good. The egg salad sandwich was probably the best I’ve ever had, and the Bollito was 🤌🏼. I’m definitely going to make this a regular spot.

Other reviewers are complaining about the cost but they can just eat at Subway. If you care about quality ingredients and creative, precise execution this place is for you. The mackerel sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. If a sandwich can be described as “elegant” it’s this sandwich.

Most elevated Banh Mi in the city! Perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Ingredients are super fresh and premium.

I'd walked by this place a million times, and it looked good, but I wasn't hurting for sandwich places. But then I read something in Eater that it was owned by the Slanted Door guy, and that made me need to check it out. The sandwiches are good! Not particularly obviously Vietnamese-inspired, but there are Vietnamese ice coffee and corn snacks and various little sauces and so forth available for sale. Only like four seats inside the place, though, so the name is accurate.

Warm welcome to the Mission! I commend this crew for being brave enough to open here with this concept. We can support normalizing that Vietnamese food can be priced as much as Italian, American, or French sandwiches that run the same prices in SF 🙏 No one is complaining that Turner’s Kitchen sells $16 sandwiches a couple blocks over Lots of people making a big deal about the price but it is on par with other lunch options and high end sandwiches in this city; it’s justified with the cultural authenticity, craft and high quality ingredients included in the dishes. The vegetarian sandwich is so creative, I hope they make another veg option too. Sure, not all good Banh Mi should be priced like this but they can range and should have a range of quality and variety.

This is a lux takeout sandwich experience with amazing ingredients and a fancy pedigree. Most of the low star reviews on here are from folks who think the prices are too high and the unexpected 15% service fee — this is a little unfounded: the prices are average for a fancy sandwich in sf and the 15% is actually fairly low when you compare to other places’ tip options. Love this place, but don’t leave a low star review just because you were expecting 5$ bahn mi prices.

Ordered the OG#3 and crispy pork belly. Seems like the $20 sandwich is becoming a thing (looking at you flour + water). The pork maintains its crispy skin but the portion I got was quite oversalted. The sliced cucumber does little to balance that out, there's a lack of acidity. The pork is not dry, but not juicy either. OG#3 was more balanced, at least a bit of acidity. The mayo and maybe pate was nice too- there was richness but I say maybe pate because you don't really taste liver or umami. The cold cuts seemed fresh and were on the lighter side. There's something pickled in here thankfully. Milder sandwich than the pork belly. Sandwiches are reasonably sized for a healthy portion, which means maybe undersized for $20. The bread is very airy and squishes down, but the outside crust does seem to require some tearing through, it doesn't bite through easily. I respect the approach to modernize and perhaps bring higher quality ingredients to the table, oddly the execution of individual components seems to be mostly fine but the actual balance of the recipes is lacking.

It was good. Very good. The star of the show is the bread. Perfect in every way. The sandwiches are large, but because the bread is both fluffy and crunchy I didn't feel overly full afterwards. My only disappointment was that they used Jalapeño rather than birds eye chilli's in their "Bahn mi". This is a personal thing, but I cannot find a place that doesn't do Jalapeños and I find it just wrong. Was hoping ... Very good. But expensive.

Taste: 5 stars Value: 2 stars Ambience/Service: 4 stars Thai iced tea wasn't overly sweet. Sandwich and cookie were delicious. Please include napkins in every bag!

This review is for the Banh Mi sandwich. The bread was great as were the fresh ingredients. It felt like it was missing some spice (more jalapeño) and more pickled vegetables. The price was also steep for what we ordered. $40 for two sandwiches, before tip.

The banh mi is dense, the sauce is flavorful, the baguette is crispy. The baguette is a little on the smaller side so for hungry people you might want to grab 2 banh mi. However the service is so slow. I bought 5 banh mi and it took 25 minutes. That’s 5 min/banh mi. I’m sorry but that’s unacceptable for speed. The space is spacious, easy to find, parking could be difficult on a busy day. Everyone is courteous and nice. So come here if you’re not pressed for time, not too hungry. Otherwise pass.

TLDR: service is good and quick, sandwich is lacking something and I don’t like having a forced 15% service charge for just takeaway. Was helped quickly and ordered the crispy pork belly sandwich and a Vietnamese coffee. Only when i saw the total at almost $29 for $23 of sandwich and coffee did i see the 15% auto service charge which rubbed me the wrong way, especially for only having takeout. The food came quickly and digging in, the pork belly is definitely on point with crispy skin and tender meat. However the rest of the sandwich is lacking. A ton of cilantro with regular cucumber and jalapeño doesn’t add the acidity that pickled veggies would in a regular banh-mi. The bread had a nice crunchy exterior but it tasted one note. All in all, nothing was horrible about the sandwich but it all tasted one note to me

Although expensive, the banh mi are the best. But adding 15% service charge for a takeaway?! There’s no waiter, I just walked up to the counter and placed an order.

The place charges 15% service fee on takeout order and the charge is mandatory and hence taxable. I have not had such an experience for takeout and puzzled why such charge is not part of the food price on the menu. You order and only at checkout you realize an additional 15% is non negotiable and this is not dine in or delivery. It's not transparent and the food isn't good enough for me to return to the shop given the misleading price.

I ordered Jo Jo's Bollito and it was almost inedible. The Bread and sauce were great. However, there were gobs and gobs of fat (or something resembling fat) that was so tough it couldn't even be chewed. I had to pull it all out of the sandwich, which left a bun and about 1 bite of the succulent braised belly meat. So disappointing.

Decent bahn mi but insanely overpriced. They automatically add 15% tip for order at the counter? Ended up being $52 for two sandwiches and a Vietnamese coffee.

I wanted to like this place but it really fell short in every margin. I ordered the crispy porkbelly, which came out to a whopping $22 due to a mandatory 15% service charge. I've seen that for dine in restaurants, but a take out sandwich shop? This is already on top of it selling banh mi, a historically cheaper sandwich. The crispy porkbelly even for porkbelly was nauseatingly salty and had a hard time finishing it. The size was pretty small in comparison to most Banh Mi you can net for a third of the price, and the flavors were nothing special. Go somewhere else like little Saigon if you can.
