Excellent dim sum served up here. Met up with family on our vacation and they highly recommended lunch here. We braved the rain and cold on a Sunday afternoon. We saw the long lines to get in. And we conquered about a dozen dishes on the menu. Everything was tasty and delicious. Just a heads up that getting water for the table can be a bit slow when they are busy. But otherwise, enjoy. 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
I came here after researching, and this seems to be THE place for dim sum in San Francisco. This was a busy place, but it didn't take that long for me to get a seat for lunch. Being from Maine and not having the best Asian food, my mind was sort of altered coming in. This place screams authentic (in my little Mainer mind). They seemed pretty slammed on a Tuesday. I was a little confused on the way to order, but they give you a menu where you fill out exactly what you want. I decided to try something new, a BBQ Pork noodle roll! It was good. These seemed to be made with rice flour. I liked the pork and the strong BBQ flavor. It was a little hard for me to pick up, but a nice lady helped me properly pick it up LOL. I also got the baked BBQ pork buns. Probably my 2nd favorite food item. And so so good. I wish I was having them now. It was a very memorable experience.
Hands down one of the best Dim Sum places in Chinatown San Francisco! Always a family favorite 🫶🏼 Everything is always so fresh, clean establishment, service is friendly & the food is sooooo good! We ordered dim sum lots of dishes from jelly fish to egg tart to pork buns to fried taro to chicken feet to shu mai to beef ribs and the list goes on. Can’t really count everything that family always order. Way too many goodies and it is extremely cheap! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
We went there early and not many people in the restaurant. We ordered some rolls, beef and pork ribs, sponge cake and porridge. Everything tasted great! The meat was tender, rolls very flavorful, and the porridge was served in a pot, hot and full of umami flavor. I forgot my glasses when leaving and the waiter rushed to catch me up. It was a good meal and we will come again.
We loved Hong Kong Lounge! The food was delicious, everything came out fresh and fast. Our favorites were the baked bbq pork buns, bbq pork noodle rolls, deep fried shrimp dumplings, xo sauce turnip cakes, and stuffed mushrooms. We did not like the purple yam bun, would not order that again. But besides that everything was delicious and we will definitely be back! Also the prices were very reasonable! We arrived at noon on a Friday and it was packed, we had to wait about 20 minutes. Would recommend arriving earlier to avoid the line
Delicious Dim Sum at Unbeatable Prices – A Must-Try Lunch Spot! I had lunch at this Chinese dim sum restaurant and was thoroughly impressed! They offer a special lunch menu with select dim sum items starting as low as $3.99—and the best part is, there’s no compromise on quality or taste. Every dish we tried was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Should a service tip at a restaurant be calculated based on the total amount before or after tax?
Hong Kong Lounge has been a staple in my life since I was a kid, and it continues to impress with its classic Chinese cuisine. Nestled in the Richmond district, this restaurant consistently serves some of the best Chinese food in the area. Whether you're craving dim sum or a full banquet-style meal, their menu is packed with flavorful, authentic options that never disappoint. The back room is a hidden gem, perfect for hosting banquets or larger gatherings. It's spacious and has that traditional charm that makes any celebration feel extra special. What really sets Hong Kong Lounge apart is their consistent quality and the nostalgic vibe that comes with every visit. If you're looking for top-tier Chinese food in the Richmond district, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!

We are no experts but everything we had was great. We loved the dim sum, desserts and other plates, and the service was easily understood and appreciated. Great communication.
Hong Kong Lounge is a well-known dim sum spot in San Francisco, and I gave it a try based on glowing reviews claiming it’s close to the real Hong Kong experience. The ambiance and presentation definitely hit the mark—they’ve got that classic, slightly upscale dim sum vibe down. However, when it came to flavor, it didn’t quite live up to the hype. Maybe my expectations were too high, having grown up with traditional dim sum, but I’d give the overall taste a 7/10. The 小籠包 (pork soup dumpling) was the biggest letdown—bland and lacking that burst of rich broth. On the bright side, everything came out piping hot, so handle with care. Dim sum always pairs well with hot tea, and I recommend mixing your own dipping sauce: light soy sauce, red vinegar, and chili crisp. Price is on the medium high side. Keep in mind there’s a $25 credit card minimum. Parking is tough around here—as expected in SF—but there’s a lot at Geary and 21st Ave. if you come early, just a short walk away. And don't expect a Chinese restaurant to be quiet, especially dim sum restaurants.
Liked my experience here! I got the cilantro chive rice roll, pork and taro fried dumplings, shrimp and bamboo dumplings, garlic bokchoy, and fried tofu skin with shrimp inside. The tea was delicious!!! The service was quality! It smelled a little strange inside though. The bokchoy was yummy but could have been cooked a little longer to be more tender. The pork and taro dumpling was too fried for me personally and super greasy. The tofu skin was quite fried but still yummy! Not too expensive for the quality and service. Might go back again!
*8/23/2023 This was my second visit to Hong Kong Lounge, and on this occasion, my dining companion and I decided to indulge in their delightful dim sum offerings. We arrived at around 11 a.m. on a Sunday and a modest queue already forming outside the restaurant. I would recommend that those arriving by car consider dropping off their companions at the restaurant first to secure a spot on the waiting list and obtain a ticket. Anticipate a typical wait time of around 30 minutes before being seated. For this visit, I opted for the Dim Sum Sampler, an assortment that included 1 Custard Piglet Bun, 2 Spinach Dumplings, 2 Vegetarian Dumplings, 2 Olives & Yam Dumplings, 2 Seafood Dumplings, 2 Curry Beef Dumplings, and 2 Bunny Shrimp Dumplings. The standout items were undoubtedly the dumplings filled with seafood. They had a delightful blend of flavors, and the dumpling wrappers were wonderfully chewy, adding to the overall satisfaction of the dish. However, I must admit that the Curry Beef Dumplings didn't quite live up to my expectations. Despite their vibrant yellow curry-colored wrappers, the filling lacked the bold curry flavor I had anticipated. I was hoping for a burst of curry spice in my mouth, but unfortunately, it fell short in that regard. 7/28/2023 We went to Hong Kong Lounge for dim sum, a group of 6 of us, and managed to get seated shortly after the restaurant opened at 10:30 a.m. However, there was already a queue when we arrived, so keep in mind that arriving early is advisable if you want to avoid waiting. In total, we ordered 20 dishes, and I must say, all of the food tasted pretty decent! Allow me to highlight a few dishes that particularly impressed me: the Steamed Pork Rib, Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf, Baked BBQ Pork Puff, and Baked Egg Tart! These were simply delightful and left a lasting impression on my taste buds.

There was no line to get in (weekday) but no one to greet us. We patiently waited for about five minutes before someone signaled us to sit down to the table left of the door. We told the wait staff that we did not want to sit at that table because it was drafty (cold wind) with heavy foot traffic. The only other table for two available was behind the screen in front of the door. We reluctantly took the table since our minds were on dim sum. It was so cold that one of us went to the car and got our jackets and shawls. I never ate bundled up and freezing with cold air coming through the door. The hot tea helped a little. What made matters worst was that I went to the restroom and next to the restroom, there was a large dining room that was about 15% filled. The tables had linen table cloths and napkins. The room was warm with no drafts. Tables were mostly for 2 - 4 persons. Why wasn't we offered this room and why was we told that the table we were sitting was "the" only available table for two????? This did not sit well with me. That's why I am only giving it 3 stars. The food was well presented. All dishes were served temperature hot. Each dish had its own distinct flavor. Pieces are a little larger than most places. Prices are average to most dim sum places. Parking is difficult - metered street parking.
The food was decent but the sneaky tipping was unacceptable. They tried to write in a tipping value for me and I was quite upset about that. I dont mind giving more but if its going to be forced and not disclosed up front, similar to when you post something on the menu or on the front door that tips are automatically applied with X number of guests then I can understand. Food: everything came out hot, not sure if it is like this throughout the day as we did arrive as soon as they opened. The taste was fairly good overall, some dishes better than others. Atmosphere: Loud, lots of talking amongst guest but also staff was loud. They also were banging and tossing dishes and utensils loudly. Price: the cost is quite reasonable for the serving sizes but the tipping is definitely something you need to ask about and ask them to remove if you dont agree. Staff: staff seemed courteous, but we didn't have major interactions, only limited initial exchanges.
We had a long layover so I was looking for some decent dim sum without breaking the bank. Back in Chicago, I could always find a decent dim sum place. Reddit led me here and reviews were okay. We ordered salt and pepper tofu cubes, deep fried crab claws, almond balls filled with egg yolk lava, curry beef dumplings, dried scallop with taro dumplings, and deep fried shrimp balls. The ones that I thought were decent to eat were salt and pepper tofu cubes, deep fried crab claws, and deep fried shrimp balls. The other ones I forced myself to finish, since the food was a bit overpriced and I hate wasting food. Food overall was pretty mediocre so 3 stars is sufficient. Nothing truly stood out for me. Service was okay, standard in most Chinese restaurants. The place was clean but initially when we walked in there were barely any Chinese people eating there. First red flag. More Chinese people came later but that still didn’t change the quality of the food. This was my second time in SF, and Chinese food here hasn’t really impressed me that much.

Not one of the best in SF but will do if you are in the neighborhood. We were there for brunch (it opened at 11 am) and there was enough people waiting to halfway fill the dining room.
