First time trying this place. Went there on a Monday early evening (5pm). Little wait, but there are couple of people enjoying their food. I orderd Fish and Chips, and it was good! Crispy batter and juicy fish. The included chips are seasoned perfectly! Overall, I want to try them again and enjoy the atmosphere :)
They do serve fresh fish meals. I love it and I highly recommend it and definitely will come back to try the rest in their menu.
Super yummy! Fish and chips were amazing. Burrito was also amazing but with so many flavors you couldn’t get the full flavor of the fish. I don’t think you can go wrong at this place everything was so good. We went on a Saturday at 3:30 in the afternoon and it took us an hour to get our food so it can be a bit of a wait. Probably don’t come here if your in a bit of a rush but you can order ahead!
Be prepared to have longer than you’re used to wait times, but the food is fresh and worth it! The folks there work hard - so just be patient. Weekends are busiest but it’s nice to see the hustle and bustle. Have a burrito with the fish of the day and an agua fresca with pulpy juice and sit outside on a sunny day - then go across the street to check out the bookstore and grab a delicious latte and sweet treat. Makes for a leisurely enjoyable weekend afternoon!
My son looked up the best fish and chips in the city, and this place came up at the top. We did end up waiting about 45 minutes, which felt long at first, but everything is cooked fresh, with fish brought in that day, and you can really taste the difference. The fish was excellent, and the batter was crisp without being greasy, which honestly surprised me. The fries are seasoned with herbs like thyme and rosemary, something you might expect on meat, yet it somehow works perfectly on potatoes. I can imagine this being a real neighbourhood favourite in the summer. I’ll be crossing my fingers for an East Bay location someday.
Hook Fish Co is a very good place to eat a good fish and chip with excellent fries that are well done and seasoned. The wating time is about 20-40 min on rush hours but is is worth it. There is limited parking in front of the restaurant so you will need to find street parking. There are only outside seating that is good. On the menu we highly recomend the fish and chips and the burrito. In conclusion we will definitely come back.
A gorgeous day to wait 1.5 hours (!!!! Way too long to wait) for our fish and chips. Would never wait that long but fortunately it was a beautiful day to be outside and apparently everyone decided to enjoy the weather and some good eats. There's no inside seating it is a walk up, order and wait for your food spot. Find a table to share with others outside on their parapet area.
While I'm going to give this place 5 stars, my son would give it 4. On a short trip to SF, I had been looking for some decent fish 'n chips. I found some that just didn't do it for me. However, on our last night in town, we went to Hook. They totally satisfied the fix I was looking for. We arrived just in time for a short break in the rain and they only had patio seating. This would have been a problem but their staff promptly dried off a table and seats for us. Ended up being perfect. I hate to say it, but the only let down was the habanero-carrot hot sauce. It was a beautiful orange and looked SO good! However, it was as thin as water and lacked the heat you'd expect from something labeled as habanero. I think the flavor was ok, but it was so thin it didn't have the chance to stick to anything we were eating. That said, I'd still recommend this place 100%. If I'm in the area again, I'll certainly go back.
Hook Fish Co. is a cool little counter-style spot with outdoor seating and a fun, lively vibe. I got the fish and chips with black cod—you can choose any of their fish to be battered, which is awesome. The batter was super crispy, seasoned perfectly, and the fish just melted in my mouth. They also have a habanero carrot salsa that you have to try—it adds a sweet heat that takes the fish to the next level. Overall, really great spot for fresh seafood. I loved the fish and chips and definitely want to come back to try their fish burrito—it looked amazing
Such yummy fish in a very cool environment. Walked all day through what felt like the entirety of SF to finish here and delight in the grilled fish of the day platter with rice and veg. The perfect meal. Service was casual and quick. Outdoor seating only with not too many tables, but we were lucky to snag one. My only wish is for more tables. Oh and the habanero carrot hot sauce is unique in its sweet and spicy nature. Yum!
Excellent fish and chips and many other seafood dishes served in a hole-in-the-wall place. It’s hugely popular but the wait is not too bad. You can see the ingredients refrigerated drawers if you stand close enough to the side counter. The gentlemen working the fryer and the grill really know what they are doing.
I don’t go to SF often because the parking was so terrible! We went out for girls night and chose here as many people recommended! The day of the fish is Rockfish! We love the taco, burritos and salad! We ordered again after we took the 1st round, 2nd round we ordered fish plate. Actually we don’t need to order salad as the fish plate has salad too! Be smart! If you saw many people got the yellow drink, thats the pineapple taste drink (forgot the exactly name) that’s maybe you can order water melon. Be honestly, not the drink I am into. Anyway! Good place for catch up with your friends. So chill, so relax, not one judge you if you eat taco like Chinese! lol Ok! After this, walk over to the cross street, visit black bird bookstore and grabs some books and small items. Check on the review and you will see my post! Enjoy this dinner place!
Came on a Sunday around 5 pm for a snack. Ordered the 3 piece fish and chips $22. Fish was rockfish. Medium sized pieces. Batter was light and crispy, not excessively oily, very good overall. Fries were decent, maybe half were soggy, generous portion. They also sell sandwiches, oysters, fresh seafood to take home, wine and beer on tap, etc. Self serve water is provided. It's an order at the counter and seat yourself type of place. Outdoor seating only. It may be hard to find a table since they are usually quite busy. Only 1 restroom so plan ahead
Hook Fish was at the top of my San Francisco food list, and it absolutely lived up to the hype—we ended up going twice in 48 hours! The fish and chips were perfect, the fish sandwich was next-level, and the fish tacos? Unreal. We also grabbed the chips and guac, which were simple but insanely fresh, and I’m still thinking about their French fries! The staff was super friendly, and the whole vibe just feels like pure coastal California with a little San Francisco twist. You might have to wait for a table or eat along the perimeter outside, but trust me—it’s worth it. When I say fresh, I mean fresh… we literally walked up as someone was unloading fish straight out of a pickup. Couldn’t recommend this place more! If you miss this place, you’ll regret it.
Hook Fish is an absolute gem. I’m not sure what drove some of these reviewers to be so critical of delicious seafood but maybe they’ll work that out in therapy at some point. Will there be a line? Yes, probably, but it moves pretty fast, and they’re going to give you a little fob that will vibrate when your order is ready, so all you’ll have to do is hang out , have a drink maybe, and enjoy some conversation with friends, or perhaps strangers that are also fresh fish enthusiasts. The poke burrito is as outstanding as it is gigantic. Make sure you try some of that tasty carrot hot sauce they’ve got hanging around too (pro-tip: shake the bottle up first).
Held out on trying this place for too long. The poke burrito is the best I’ve ever had, and it’s HUGE! Worth every penny. The chips and guacamole were also very good. Have yet to try the fish and chips or the fish tacos, which I hear are excellent. Excited to come back. FYI there’s only outdoor seating, and not too much of it so be prepared and dress appropriately.

A really cool place, great service, everything is clean, the battered fish and chips are delicious, really, really tasty, and atmosphere by the ocean is very nice.
One of SF's gems! Ordering online is the play, and our go-to is the fish burrito with no rice and the sandwich. Very casual spot with good outdoor seating. Nice guys who will answer your questions.…
There is a reason there is always a line out the door. Worth the price for sustainable delish fish.

The huge burrito I got was really good and we enjoyed sitting out in the cute outdoor area even though it was freezing (no place to sit inside).

To start, the service was awesome! Sent all sorts of sauces with our meal! Food is very fresh and flavourful. Great to pick up and take to the beach! My wife said the Oysters were super fresh too!
the fish and chips are my fave! the batter on the fish is light and airy while maintaining crunch. the fish inside is not dry however some days the fish tastes a little juicier than others (maybe it’s the cook time). it gets pretty busy so the seating is often taken, come with at least another person so someone can get a seat while the other gets the food for a better experience!
Hook Fish absolutely lives up to the hype. We ordered the ceviche and chips, poke and chips, poke tacos, and grilled fish tacos—and everything was sooooo fresh and incredibly delicious. This is the kind of seafood that tastes clean, bright, and straight from the ocean. The restaurant is entirely outdoors and super charming, with quirky tables, tons of plants, and a laid-back neighborhood feel. It was a beautiful saturday, which made it the perfect setting to sit outside and enjoy fresh seafood for lunch. It’s counter service, but they do have beer and wine, which is a nice bonus. That said, this place was absolutely slammed. Seating was tough to come by, and since it’s counter service, you’re on your own to find a spot. We ended up eating the ceviche and poke with chips while standing (no photo because we were starving), but honestly, it was still totally worth it. One small downside was that our food came out in chunks (20 mins apart) since my friend and I ordered separately, which was a bit of a bummer. Still, the food is so good that it’s easy to see why this place is always packed. A little patience is required, but the freshness and flavor make it more than worth it. I’d happily go back—ideally with a little more time and luck snagging a table.

Horrible parking and limited signs to get into the place. Could be fun vibes on the outside patio. To-go fish burrito (bass). Fresh ingredients but the fish was unrecognizable.

I stumbled upon Hook Fish while perusing social media. A few IG reels with some Hook Fish eats showed up on my feed. I thought lets give it a shot, since we're headed to the city anyways, more specifically to the Dutch Windmill area of Golden Gate Park. We placed our order at Hook Fish around 1:15 PM on a Sunday afternoon. Nothing elaborate or excessive. We were told to expect a 40 minute wait! Well...it was a bit arduous to back out now, considering we parked three blocks away and walked about 10 minutes, then waited another 10 minutes in line to order. Speaking off...Hook Fish is basically in the middle of the neighborhood, so parking it very challenging. The venue is tiny, no room inside to sit down, it does have an open kitchen where you can see your feed being made. There is a small restroom inside and there is some compact outdoor seating right outside the venue. #HookFish: ~ Fish and Chips - 4/5 Your standard Fish and Chips with seasoned fries. Beer battered with housemade tartar sauce. Good, but not amazing or to die for... ~ Tacos - 4/5 Good Fish Tacos with plenty of things going on... -`Avocado, pico de gallo, pickled slaw, spicy aioli in housemade corn tortillas (order of 2) ~ HABAÑERO CARROT - 5/5 It's all about the Sauce!! This stuff is brilliant! Not too Spicy with a very unique flavor profile. DELISH!! Hook Fish is good, just not not worth a 40 minute to hour plus wait... There are plenty of similar options available. I'd stop by again if the wait wasn't terrible, but I don't fell like missed out on anything if I didn't make it out to Hook Fish...

This is for marin. 0 stars. Had to wait 50 minutes for to order. Greed has taken over.
Food was lost, then the fish and chips was inedible due to the carbonized herbs making it like eating charcoal. Disgusting I will never visit again.
