Dinner at KEN was one of those rare experiences where everything is considered, not just the fish, but the rhythm, the temperature, the ceramics, the space, and the human touch behind it all. Each course felt perfectly calibrated: cool against warm, delicate against rich, flavors building intentionally. The fish itself was exceptional, pristine and expressive, but what stayed with me was the balance, nothing felt rushed. The setting is intimate in the best way. Friendly, welcoming, and deeply personal, without ever feeling performative. You feel cared for, guided, and included. The attention to detail extends beyond the food to the vessels it arrives in; beautiful, tactile pieces that elevate each bite and make the entire experience feel composed and intentional. The sake also deserves special mention. Thoughtful throughout, and the dessert sake is an absolute must, unexpected, rich, and the perfect closing note. This is the kind of meal you keep thinking about days/months/years later. A meal that lingers in memory, not just on the palate. Thank you, Ken I’ll be thinking about this fabulous evening for a long time to come.
The best way to describe Ken is like having a good friend, who is also a chef, prepare a exceptional food experience for you. The space is beautiful and intimate. The staff were very attentive and kind. The menu was expertly crafted. I appreciated how there were warm dishes interspersed with the cool sushi and sashimi, as the weather is cold at this time. Makes me wonder what menu chef would come up with for spring as the weather changes. It was an amazing experience, one you'll be thinking about for a while after. Absolutely recommend.
What an amazing omakase experience. The fish and rice were delicious, the mixture of flavors was superb, very well thought of. The presentation, the story behind it, the impecable service made our night very special.
By far the best and most memorable omakase experience I’ve ever had! The atmosphere, food, and storytelling came together to create a truly unforgettable evening. Not only was it incredibly fun, but also educational. This is absolutely a must-visit spot, and I’ll be sure to come back every time I’m in San Francisco!
Such an amazing experience. I highly recommend visiting. Every bite was well thought out and delicious. It was perfect watching chef Ken preparing each piece. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful. We loved our wonderful dinner there.
The best omakase experience I’ve ever had. Chef Ken led us through a journey full of different flavors, temperatures, and textures. Each dish was unique and delightful, and I walked away perfectly satisfied. Chef Ken and the rest of the staff were super personable, and I had a great time chatting/joking around with them. It was quite expensive, so it will be a bit before I come back, but it’s in the books for sure.
Ken is personable, witty, humble, and knowledgeable! We had a fantastic evening in the small 7 person seating. Each dish was beautifully arranged like a piece of art. The textures were unique (eg. shrimp, octopus eggs, tofu, and pear) and the flavors were bold yet delicate. We will be back!
Excellent representation of what omakase should be like. Detailed, excellent presentation, and most importantly it taste great.
I had the most incredible dining experience at KEN! The food was absolutely divine, with every dish bursting with flavor and artistry. The service was impeccable—attentive, friendly, and truly above and beyond. This is, without a doubt, the best sushi restaurant I’ve ever been to. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience!
A well-thought out menu and wonderful experience. Chef Ken is a professional in every way. He makes you feel comfortable while carefully prepping your food. He answers all of your questions and let's you know the special ingredients in each dish. Maria his assistant was also very professional and nice.
Our Omakase experience was truly delightful! Chef Ken’s knowledge and passion for sushi shone through with every course. He explained the background of each fish and the way he prepared it to highlight its unique flavors. The cozy seating added to the intimate atmosphere. The quality of the fish was exceptional, and the way Ken used his ingredients to accentuate the flavors was amazing. It was the perfect birthday dinner for my friend - I’m so glad I chose this place, and I can’t believe I almost missed out on this hidden gem!
Incredible Omakase experience! Intimate and fun interaction with chef Ken who is absolutely wonderful. His choice of fish was excellent, they had nice texture and were very flavorful (and beautiful!). Overall we loved it, thank you!
March 2024: Enjoyed a wonderful omakase dinner at this small intimate restaurant. Chef Ken is a very personable and warm host. The sushi and sashimi were the highlights of the dinner. The fatty tuna 🍣 was my favorite! 😋I like how Chef Ken adds a personal touch to the menu. I would definitely come back again for another omakase dinner!
An unmarked and unassuming building at the corner of Haight and Divisadero houses Ken Sushi. It was an amazing Omakase experience - delicious, inventive, and WAY less fussy than some others we’ve done. No Sake pairing here…just pick water or pick a bottle of Sake and let Chef Ken and the sushi shine!
First omasake experience in quite a while! Ken definitely did not disappoint. We were greeted warmly as soon as we entered, and Ken kept the dining experience pleasant and entertaining the whole evening. We (group of 7) took up the whole restaurant so it felt intimate and also VIP at the same time. Starting from the first course I can feel the care and love the chef puts in the preparation. He made even a simple tomato taste divine. The sashimi course was art on a plate, and tasty as well. All the sushi was tasty and prepared meticulously, my favorite was the torched toro. The only dish I didn't love was the rice dish, compared to the rest it just seemed... unexciting? Oh I also added a cuttlefish sushi during the "extra" round, and it was tasty as well. Had a blast with my friends and highly recommended!
Sensational omakase experience, best sushi in SF. Each serving is specially presented by Chef Ken to delight your taste buds. He also takes the time to explain how he prepared the fish/dish and what flavors and aromas he is highlighting. The sake that Chef Ken recommended to us was also perfect and complimented every bite. Whether you are new to omakase or have tried multiple places, you must add this to your list and book a reservation immediately, you will not be disappointed.

Last night, to celebrate my birthday, my family brought me to dinner at Ken. Imagine if it had been my last meal on earth - I couldn't have asked for a better meal! What was it about the place that I liked so much? Unquestionably, the food was creative and exquisitely prepared. Undoubtedly, the fact that I was with my family, and the only other patrons in this sushi bar that only seats 7 was a friendly couple who had driven in from Sunnyvale, all contributed to the air of conviviality throughout the meal. Crucially, our interactions with the chef and the restaurant staff were professional but always infused with humanity. Perhaps the best way to end this review would be to borrow a word Chef used repeatedly to describe his food - balance. All was in balance last night, great food prepared with thought and care, large dollops of humanity, in a comfortable, convivial setting. My meal at Ken with my family and the couple from Sunnyvale, ranks mong the best I have had in my life to date(60+).
Superb omakase experience. Each dish was unique and balanced. And the courses all flowed together and complemented each other nicely. And the chef created a really fun atmosphere. By the end of the night we felt like we had made friends and the other 5 diners at the counter with us. Very rare to find a restaurant that is this excellent without being pretentious and stuffy about it. Would highly recommend
Felt like walking into someone’s home who uses good ingredients and tremendous attention. Chef is joyful. Staff is attentive. The experience leaves you eager to come back.
We had the best experience at KEN! Ambience, service, and food were 10/10. The uni dish was one of our favorites - we loved the juxtaposition of the two types, thank you for an awesome time!!

Chef Ken had a great assortment of fresh fish carefully selected and aged to perfection. I came when they first opened and the service and sequencing of courses has improved. If they have it, highly recommend chef’s preparation of the nodoguro. The service was appropriately timed, the staff was attentive, and the GM, Ryan, helped us pick the perfect sake. Would definitely recommend this spot for omakase in SF!
Chef Ken was fantastic, every dish was so well thought out and balanced perfectly. The flow of the dinner service was impeccably timed, including detailed explanations of each bite. Chef was also so personable, with great attentiveness to each guest sitting at the 7-person chef’s counter.
This was such a nice experience, Chef Ken and the entire team were kind and attentive the entire time. When it comes to the actual food, definitely one of the best sushi and omakase experiences we’ve had in the city. We learned about the thought and intention behind every bite, everything was so meticulously thought out. Highly highly recommend and would come back :) we came to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, and had a lovely time! Thanks again to Chef Ken and the whole team.
