great food and service. fantastic wine collection, really like the rose champagne. the oyster and foie gras were seasoned well and fresh with no fishy taste. My main course A5 wagyu beef was also cooked to perfect medium-raw. (would prefer eye of rib eye from local farm next time though)
The food...amazing. The service...perfect. Only tiny gripe is there is a per soda charge which we didn't know until we got charged for each of our son's refills. Outside of that, just wonderful.
Wow! Great food and ambiance a bit pricey but you get what you pay for! Service was excellent! Street parking can be found easily if you arrive at certain times if not you'll need take Lyft. - Highly Recommended!
Best truffle Mac and Cheese ever!! Plus the Wagyu sliders were delicious! Great place for happy hour or a casual date.
Been many times...its always fantastic. Spectacular food. Amazing service. Go! Now!
French restaurant with Pris Fixe menus. We chose the seasonal Chef's tasting and did not regret it. We also did the optional wine pairing which I highly recommend since no single wine can deal with the diversity of food. Wonderful service, beautiful presentation, and amazing flavors.
Food was DELICIOUS with equally great presentation, surprisingly generous portions and perfect service. Well worth the money!
Phenomenal. We came in around 5:15 and needed to get on our way to the airport by 7. The staff didn't miss a beat, perfectly timing our 4 course meal and had us out the door by 6:55 without feeling rushed at all. Food was superb and creative and our waiter was fantastic. Would definitely come back when in the SF area again.
What an amazing meal! The scallops topped with sweatbreads - heavenly. The lamb chops - so die for. Plus a delightful wine pairing and wonderful service. Quick make your way to La Folie before they end their 32 year run in March!

Creative and elegant French style cooking. tip: if you can't get reservation at restaurant, they have a bar/lounge next door that serves entire menu if you so desire. It's a great way to sample what they have. Great place for date/romantic evening, special event. Private dining room in the back.
We had a very pleasant experience at La Folie. The food was excellent ! We took a 5 course and 4 course set menu. Every course was prepared with fresh ingredients and it was so good! We also enjoyed the wine pairing. Price is on the higher side, but it really worth it! Service was very friendly and attentive! We will be back!
I had a wonderful time at La Folie. I enjoyed the food very much. The dishes were creatively prepared and tasty. The temperature of each dish was attended to carefully. And the dishes were served at a leisurely pace, appropriate for the venue. The ambience is calm and the restaurant was attractive. Dress code was dressy casual. Most men were wearing suits or sportcoats. The service was outstanding. My waiter even hailed a taxi for me when it was time for me to leave. I had the pleasure of meeting the chef at the end of my meal, which I enjoyed very much. I highly recommend this restaurant.
We had an amazing experience at La Folie. We did the summer tasting menu, and all of the dishes were delicious. Even the amuse bouche (served in an individual egg shell) was incredible, and the sommelier did a great job pairing wines to complement each course. The restaurant is small, and the chef personally came out to talk to every table. The serving staff were attentive and kind, and the kitchen staff clearly worked extremely hard behind the scenes. This was a pricey meal, but I would definitely recommend for a special occasion!
We enjoyed an excellent meal for our anniversary at La Folie. The menu was packed with interesting and unusual choices, and everything we tried was delicious. The lobster over raviolo was especially memorable. The room tucked away in the back of the restaurant was beautiful, and the service was friendly, attentive, but not overbearing. This is one of the more expensive restaurants in San Francisco, but we'll definitely be back for another special occasion in the future.
Exceptional French cuisine in an elegant setting perfect for a special occasion or for a fancy dinner out. The prices are a bit steep, but the food does no disappoint. The savory dishes are excellent and desserts here are amazing and large enough to share. The service is very high quality and although they take their time, the wait is worth it. Highly recommend.

La Folie is a small French fine dining gem in San Francisco. The dining room is not very large, but had a cozy and elegant feel to it which made our time dining at this location very enjoyable. The service was fantastic and our waiter was very attentive, informative and knowledgeable about all the food on the menu. I chose to order the Chef's Tasting Menu and our waiter was able to suggest potential off-menu changes which really helped to enhance our experience even further. My first course consisted of the Foie Gras Terrine and it was expertly prepared and absolutely delicious with the bread and jam. This was my first time trying Foie Gras prepared this way and it was a delightfully unique way to consume Foie Gras that I definitely hope to try again. For my second course, I had the Butter Poached Lobster. This dish was incredibly tasty and decadent and was essentially an elevated version of lobster bisque. Overall, this may have been my favorite dish of the night but was slightly marred on my last bite as the chef had accidentally left the shell on the piece of lobster which I didn't notice until I had already begun chewing. That wasn't the most appetizing way to finish what was otherwise an incredibly well-executed course. My third course was the main event, consisting of the Snake River Farms Eye of Ribeye and as suggested by our waiter, topped with a second course of Seared Foie Gras. This dish was absolutely decadent and well prepared. The steak itself was very well prepared and tender which combined with the Seared Foie Gras was truly special and incredibly flavorful and tasty. I would recommend this particular combination to anyone who is a fan of steak and foie gras. Next came the cheese course, which I was rather excited for, but sadly this was the low-point of the meal for me. While there weren't any notable flaws in the preparation, it just simply wasn't for me. This is, of course, subjective and I'm sure there are many who would enjoy this dish as it was, but I found it to be not particularly enjoyable. Particularly, the combination of Fig with edible flower and cheese was beautiful, but simply not to my taste and I actually found it difficult to even finish. Your tastes may vary from my own, so it's possible you will have a very different experience with this course, but for me, this was not nearly as enjoyable as our other courses. I ended with the "Dark Chocolate Opera Cake" and thankfully this was a return to a high note. The chocolate was very tasty and the cake was light and fluffy which mixed with the berries resulted in a very satisfying end to the meal. The portions throughout the meal were just right. The five courses, in addition to the amuse bouche and surprise second round of dessert featuring some small delectables, left us very full and satisfied. The meal overall was very enjoyable and we're likely to give this restaurant another try in the future. If not for a small mistake on the 2nd course and the low point during the cheese round, this definitely would have been a 5 star experience. I will look forward to giving this restaurant another try in the future.
After learning that this place will be closing in March, we decided to give it a try. We chose the 4-course menu for $150/person. Most dishes were great, but my favorite was definitely the Emigh Farm Lamb Rack! It was cooked perfectly at medium-rare, melts in your mouth tender, amazing! The Day Boat Scallop and Black Bass were nice too. The Cheese Souffle and Caramel Apple were both delicious desserts.

I went to their bar lounge that was next door to the restaurant. I ordered Dark and Stormy, which I enjoyed very much. I also tried Johnny Walker blue and that was real smooth. I shared an order of their Mac n cheese with lobster that I found tasty and not so heavy. It's not gooey stringy cheese if that's what you were expecting. I will definitely come back again.
decor was good but the place was too "busy"; waiters were constantly pacing around and for a place that is rated so highly i expected a bit more of an exclusive feel. good luck if you expect the staff to make wine recommendations :). my date was vegetarian and she hated the food. if you are vegetarian, i strongly recommend that you save your money and go some place else. i had the 5 course menu; the salmon and steak were good.

I had to make last minute dinner plans for two on a Saturday. Luckily, I was able to get reservations for an early seating. There is a La Folie Lounge which is a bar next door to the restaurant. (Guess which one I went to first?) They also have valet parking which was so helpful as parking in neighborhood is awful. They have a massive drinks menu...page and pages of it. I didn't get too far and only ordered a glass. I got seated in the back area which is a bit more private but I think that the front would have preferred the front. It is a prix fixe menu so either $165 (chefs choice) or $150. The presentation was amazing. They used a lot of seasonal ingredients. I ordered octopus for an appetizer in a mole sauce. The next dish was a lobster risotto with a foamy sauce. I had rack of lamb for my main course and baked Alaska for dessert. The wait staff was attentive and explained what was in the dishes. We also received an amuse-bouche, palate cleanser and sweets compliments of the chef in addition to the meal. I was pleasantly full and could not eat another bite so I packed the sweets that they offered with the check. I'm not too keen on having only two prix fixe menu options...that's it. What if I wasn't hungry and did not want a 4 course meal? I should have done my homework before I went but I was just excited to get a reservation at the last minute. It was a shock to me as I thought I was having casual French food. The valet should have tipped me off. My cousin, a for hard foodie loved it as this is definitely her type of restaurant. It is mine too sometimes.
