When I lived in SF, I would budget NOPA into my monthly budget - it’s that good. Every dish I’ve had is amazing, and they are great at accommodating food allergies! Their burger is ALWAYS good, as are the Brussels sprouts. The menu changes seasonally and is always great. Service is excellent too. NOPA is truly a gem that I always make sure to visit every time I’m in SF!
Gorgeous restaurant with amazing food and top tier staff. Every drink and food item was perfectly curated. Highly recommended. Delicious small plates, mains, sides and desserts plus a drink menu (alcohol and alcohol free) that includes local, thought provoking ingredients and combinations. A must when in SF.
Great ambience, awesome service. Loved the orange cream soda (very ugly color but tastes amazing). All of the egg dishes were solid, and the sweets were the perfect amount sweet. But the burger stole the show and is what I'll be getting next time I'm in town! Definitely worth sharing a custard french toast for the table (it is HUGE). Our waiter heard us talking when we came in and he snagged us the very last skillet cornbread of the day, which was one of the best dishes we tried. Overall, it's easy to see why this is considered one of the best brunch places in San Francisco!
Fantastic food at a great price. Definitely a very trendy location, just look at that salt and pepper! We didn't need a reservation and didn't have to wait long for a spot for 2 at the communal table. The French Toast Custard is to die for. It's like a cake and French Toast combined in to this beautiful work of art. The oven baked eggs with kale were surprisingly good and the burger was amazing. The burger was massive and perfectly cooked. Super delicious with a ton of umami.
Beautiful setting, attentive staff and delicious food. What else would you want. If you want to come on a weekday, don't be discouraged of there's no table available for booking. They hold some tables for walk-ins. I came at 6:30pm on a weekday and got a lovely spot at the chef's counter.
Nopa is an absolute institution, and it doesn’t just live up to that reputation, it exceeds it. When I first moved to San Francisco, seemingly everyone would ask if I’d been to Nopa yet. I get it now. You’re going to spend money, but you’re going to get your money’s worth. The duck breast was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life, the pork chop is legendary, the cocktails are phenomenal, and the staff is attentive, friendly, and professional.
I spent Saturday night at Nopa I loved it. The room is glowing with natural light; the perfect combination of rustic wood and living energy. The pork chop? Out of this world. Sweet, smoky, delicious, begging you to savor every last bite. The beans and flatbreads deliver a seasonal shock. The burger? Aggressive, and honestly, I would order the beans again the next time. This isn't a quiet date space it's more of a 'hey, let's celebrate low-key with friends' type of vibe but if you want good wine, honest food, and city sass, then Nopa has you covered.
Such a pleasurable eve at Nopa! 10/10 dining experience and food. Personal favourites were the grilled broccoli in lemony buttery sauce, the trout with tomato vinaigrette and the basil icecream with peaches and cream 🤍 We also had the pork chop, lamb meatballs, chicken & fries, deep fried anchovies, beans & a mint chocolate semifreddo. Tummiesss were fullll and satisfied. Go hungry with 4 people and share everything.
A staple of Northern Californian cuisine, Nopa is always one of my top 3 choices in SF if I’m looking to celebrate a special occasion. The porkchop changed all my preconceived misconceptions on how a porkchop should be prepared. It’s a must order if you’re a meat lover! Make sure to order it medium or medium rare if you’re sensitive to undercooked meat. Burger is solid. You can’t go wrong with the execution and complex yet simply comforting flavors of Americana. Grab yourselves a few drinks from the expansive menu, chow down on some norcal cuisine, and don’t forget to get a dessert! Nopa has been a staple for years and a must try if you’ve never been. 5/5
This place put the neighborhood on the map, and it still stands the test of time--and customer patience. Reservations remain ever elusive; book a month early if you want to be seated in the dining room, or else wait two hours or more to try to snag a spot at the community table during peak brunch and dinner hours. Brunch is popular here because it is flat out exceptional, with carefully curated, seasonal ingredients prepared in delicious ways. Their French toast is a must-have, at the very least to share, and everything else on their constantly changing menu is excellent. Drinks can be had at the bar while you wait, or else put your name down and wander the neighborhood, starting with the equally famous and phenomenal local grocery store next door.
Nopa was recommended to us by a friend when we were looking for a place to have some good food and a cocktail. There are two important things to know: 1) if you're going to go, it is highly recommended that you have a reservation, or are comfortable eating at a communal table or standing for 45 mins+ to have a seat at the bar. And 2) when you do get seated, you will have a fabulous time sipping awesome cocktails and having wines matched to an exquisite menu.
Nopa San Francisco is a phenomenal restaurant. My friends and I came here for a very special friendsversary dinner and were not disappointed. We ordered many different things, from the melon appetizer and flatbread appetizer, to the 9 hour bolognese and the burger. Nothing disappointed. Everything was phenomenal, tasty, and top of its class. The aioli gets a special shout-out. It came with the fries with the burger and it was so good. It's a parsley parmesan aioli.
The food at Nopa is fantastic. My youngest and I shared Ya Ya's fried chicken. The skin was crispy and the meat was hot and moist. The trout latkes are a must.
Such a staple and institution of the city. The best move if you don’t have a reservation is to show up right when they open for happy hour and then get on the walk in waitlist for dinner. You can eat at the bar too. The pork chop is probably enough for two and a great go-to if you’re not sure what to get! Also check out the cocktails—the bartenders know what they’re doing
Classic American fair well executed. Hip and energetic with a good crowd. Service was very friendly despite how busy they were. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the company of the bartender with the list of interesting cocktails. The fried chicken is tender and flavoursome. The French toast is amazing with the texture and richness of a custard/cake. Portion is very generous. Enjoyed every bit of it.
Wow wow wow, I didn’t even get the tip of the iceberg here and I already know I have to come back possibly even multiple times to really enjoy all of the amazing thing this restaurant has to offer. My friend and I sat at the bar which is not require a reservation but you better get there right at 5 o’clock if you want to take advantage of that. We ordered a few glasses of wine and a couple of snacks just to get it started. Everything was exceptional. I really can’t recommend this restaurant enough. I know this is not particularly an extensive review, but just trust me on this make a reservation and enjoy . You’re welcome.
If you’re looking to impress your 3rd date (who might THE One) with your sophisticate palate and chill California demeanor, come here. We found the persimmon toast absolutely delectable with its crispy toast and perfectly ripened late season selection of persimmons. The drinks are for people who really enjoy drinking and savoring. No flavors to mask the alcohol, just good stuff. The dish that really blew me away was the squab with juniper and creamed cabbage. It was balanced and unique and we basically asked for more bread to sop up all the sauce. I wanted to give this place 4 stars so that they never settle and continue to be great, but I couldn’t do it after such a delightful experience last night.
The perfect place for a gals dinner. Our server Alex was so amazing! He needs a raise. Her recommended a bunch of great starters for our group. Not only was the food amazing, but so weee the drinks. My pals got a few different cocktails & I have a super yummy mocktail. I can't wait to come back to check out their other seasonal menus.
This place was delicious, but not worth coming back for in my opinion. The mushroom flatbread was delicious and the corn soup had a pleasant citrus tang to it that I loved, but the Bolognese dish left something desired. The issue with fresh noodles is often that they end up being too firm, so I'm saving my dish for tomorrow when the noodles will have softened more, soaked up the sauce and will be tastier, but I shouldn't have to wait for the next day to enjoy a dish. The burger was just okay, although cooked well, it just felt like it was lacking in flavor and the meat to bun ratio was just off. The ketchup and fries were delightful though and the apple brown butter dessert was delicious in every way. Visually, portions, texture difference and flavor profiles. Just for the price point and what you receive, it's not something I'd write home about, but they do have a changing menu daily and I appreciate their work to maintain freshness and high quality ingredients. Staff was friendly, they were SO attentive and I loved the experience they created. Not every restaurant is for everyone, but if you want to come for the small bites, beautiful drinks and delightful desserts, this place is absolutely one you should try!
At the begging we wasn't really happy, we needed to wait 30 minutes for our table (reserved, of course) but it was easily forgotten! Everything that we ordered was so good! We were 5 and ordered about 7 or 8 dishes (entrées) and all of them were great. A few of them were suggested by our waiter that was really friendly and helpful. To apologize for the long wait, they gifted us with a portion of fries, one side dish and 5 cookies for dessert, I mean, a kind way to apologize for the inconvenience. The best dinning experience that we had in SF, highly recommended!
Nopa = Flavor Burst 😛 Was in the area at Alamo Square and needed to get some food. I have heard some great things about Nopa and wanted to try it out. We didn’t have a reservation and were able to get seated immediately around 8pm on a Wednesday. We sat at the community table which was very comfortable. We ordered three dishes and a glass of Chardonnay. Highlights: Everything!! - Wood Baked Butter Beans: so tasty and the perfect textures from the crunch of the bread crumbs to the Al dente bite of the beans. Such good flavor and tasted like chili if it was an entree and not a soup (if that makes any sense) - Flatbread of Roasted Mushrooms: this was so light and buttery. A tremendous amount of unique flavors paired together with the perfect textures . The buttery mushrooms paired so well with the gruyére cheese. Amazing. - Wood roasted cauliflower and hazelnut romesco: the simplicity plays a big part in the success of this side. The sauce is incredible. Exactly what you need paired with a simple cauliflower. Light and filling, amazing. - Warm peach Cobbler - the berries, granola, and ice cream come together so perfectly. The best way to end the meal with some hearty and flavorful bites to close out the meal. All in all, Nopa was outstanding. The service was very professional with great recommendations and tentative service. Can’t wait to come back, try more, and experience the ever changing menu.
I would highly, highly recommend visiting Nopa. The food, service, and atmosphere were all incredible. Super cool space and the daily changing menu had so many amazing options to choose from. I had a duck leg that was so incredibly tender and my husband had a 9-hour bolognese that he raved about. I’d go back in a heartbeat!
!!!!!Love the food!!!!! We come here often and is a go-to spot, especially when we want everything to be perfect. The pork chops are always cooked and seasoned to perfection...every bite. The moroccan fried chicken and sauce are always good, the bolgnese is divine and I wouldn't be surprised to find out if they make their own sausage. The desserts, including the warm cookies with some good coffee (they make good coffee) are such a treat to end the blissful experience in their hopping and pleasant sounding atmosphere of people enjoying their food, drinks, dessert and excellent customer service. Oh, and the drinks are always on point- hats off to all the Nopa drink mixologists! Thank you for giving me and my husband, and all of our friends & family that we bring such a pleasant experience and heavenly eats!!!!
Absolutely loved the experience! I am on business travel and we decided to come here based on a TikTok I saw. The hosts were so polite and seated us promptly. Our server, Ashwini, is the most amazing person. Not only was she so sweet, she provided so many recommendations from appetizers, entrees, dessert, cocktails, and red wine. Of course we went with all her recommendations and we were not disappointed. (Plates were cleaned! Glasses finished!) We had the smoked trout to start. I had the Eggplant Parmesan and my colleague had the pork chop. The best part about it was her recommendations were selections I would have never considered, had she not mentioned it. It was an amazing dining experience and I would love to come back during my next visit. The atmosphere was so nice and cozy although it was a full crowd and I loved the music. 10/10 highly recommend.
Amazing first experience at Nopa sitting at the chef's counter. Ended up trying the tortelli as well as the tagliatelle for mains. Both were delicious but I think the tortelli was the star between them, mainly for the parsnips and hazelnuts. The key lime mousse and espresso were a fantastic end to the meal and I highly recommend to fans of key lime in general. Absolutely will return again when in SF.
One of the best restaurants I've been to in San Francisco! The food was amazing - delicious, beautifully plated, with huge portions, including a long list of appetizers great for sharing. They have an extensive wine list and a sommelier that helps you select the perfect wine. The restaurant itself is stylish and spacious, with a lovely ambience. There's tons of seating both inside and outside, and their outdoor seating area has been built to last with all the comforts of being indoors, including booth seating, plenty of heaters, and music. The service was terrific. All in all, a top notch experience. I highly recommend making a visit to Nopa and I'll definitely plan to return!
Lovely meal. Really enjoyed the wine. Got the bread (not served warm but was still delicious) and cauliflower as apps which were amazing. For mains, the bolognese was perfect and my boyfriend really liked his burger! The brownie dessert was also incredible. All around phenomenal meal well worth the decently high price point. Side note, we didn’t order the Moroccan fried chicken but we saw the table next to us order it. It was massive (looked yummy!) and looked like it was meant to be shared by at least two people although it doesn’t suggest it that way on the menu. Just throwing it out there because it’s listed as a main but personally I wouldn’t get it for just myself. It’s a huge plate.
Food is always fantastic here. They do have a bit of a rotating menu but the pork chop and burger are always great. The duck liver mousse was phenomenal. And it's nice that they have a very well covered outdoor dining with heat lamps. This is definitely one of my goto restaurants in the city. If you haven't been you should definitely try it out.
One of the best dining experience in SF so far. I'd say, definitely get the Potato Latkes with Smoked Trout if it's on the menu that day - it was so delicious. I highly highly recommend the porkchop and the housemade pappardelle "nine hour" bolognese. It was probably one of the best pasta dishes I've had. The atmosphere is casual, and the sound is trapped inward so it's a little loud. You don't have to scream to hear each other but do have to raise your voice a little bit. They do bring out fresh plates and change up the utensils before every course. So that you could find it on the menu - We had: FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS, POMEGRANATE MOLASSES AND PARMESAN (17), POTATO LATKES, SMOKED TROUT, BEET HUMMUS, HORSERADISH AND CARA CARA (22) COUNTRY PORK CHOP, ROASTED POTATO, WILTED GREENS AND SPICED CHICKPEAS (39), Steak with some kind of matcha sauce (can't find it at the menu anymore), WOOD GRILLED CHEESEBURGER, PICKLED ONIONS AND FRENCH FRIES (26), HOUSE MADE PAPPARDELLE, NINE HOUR BOLOGNESE AND BUTTERNUT SQUASH (32)
The food was filled with freshness and flavor and were a treat to our palettes. I especially enjoyed the smoked trout and the chicories salad. The pork shoulder was tender and tasty, the friend chicken incredibly crunchy yet jooooosy (juicy) inside. The polenta dish and summer squash were favorites for our table - but we just couldn't finish it. Except, well, we had SOME room for dessert. Rosemary ice cream!!! Yum! and their chocolate tart is a must try with a very thin chocolately crust (?). It was such a culinary delight. My son reminded me that he knew it was going to be good from the first course - when he tasted the butter served with the bread - deceivingly plain but delicious! Being the nerd that I am, I loved watching how the place ran, how the people worked and interacted. They were aware, attentive and anticipated guest needs. The open kitchen was quiet. Yes, quiet, no clanking pots or yelling orders on the line. Maria took time out from the back of the counter to come by our table and say hi. Nice touch. Margo is clearly a veteran server; Tina was warm and friendly (hostess?) - and Gideon my man, matched our dinner with the perfect glass of wine and saved me from making a mistake in pairings. We will be back again - and again. Highly recommended. Seasonal offerings, menu changes so I don't see how I could ever tire of this gem.
Service was absolutely excellent, food was great but portion size and price could be better. We sat at the bar and were able to see the chefs creating art, it was beautiful. Everything we ordered has a balanced flavour profile as I would expect with this price. Service was honestly the best thing here, staff was friendly, professional and knew what they were doing, very detailed in their service. Their vegetarian items are limited but willing to accommodate which I appreciated. Specifics about what we ordered: The tagine was delicious, highly recommended. The pasta was refreshing but I didn’t think it was worth the price. The grilled peach was amazing especially when we paired it with the sourdough but again pricey for what it is. All is to say, great food, great service but be prepared to spend quite a bit. It is a fancier restaurant and in SF.
Hands down the best meal i’ve had in awhile!!! Stumbled upon this place and proceeded to share (between the two of us) the Grilled Nectarine with Stracciatella cheese, honey and walnuts! Also order the Vegetable Tangine. Was left feeling full but not over the top! The menu here changes daily but I was blown away! Will be coming back!!! All the severs & waitstaff were very kind, I recommend sitting at the bar so you can see the action!
I've been going past this place ever since they opened, and I finally made the decision to try them. For beverages and snacks, we were given an inviting table by the window. We received a free dip with pita and needed some bubbles to start. The tastes were subtle and lovely, and this was a great way to start. Only two apps were ordered. The Spanakopita and the Koubideh Rolls. Both had delicious, fresh flavors and were expertly prepared. The koubideh rolls were the true standout. The juicy beef was tastefully and deliciously seasoned. To finish some of these bites, we even added some of the condiments that were included with the spanakopita. Everything was pleasant and fresh overall.
Amazing staff and even better food. Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the food. I got lamb tartare and that was super flavorful and refreshing. The chips did not hurt my mouth. Also got the goat cheese and toast which was quite warm and delicious. The way the ingredients and flavors blend together along with the texture makes for a very flavorful. I got the parpadelle which was a bit watery but the flavors were good and the pasta was chewy. The fried chicken was super crispy and flavorful. The honey sauce was amazing. Overall I loved the staff and food.
This place is extraordinary. The chef creates a new menu every day with different updates. The drinks are also delicious. But the bread with the goat cheese dip, woooooffff mama mía! It’s a most! The staff is really helpful to accommodate you and your party but you better get a reservation if you want to seat fast, the wait can be a little tricky. I hope you enjoy this place!
This is my favorite restaurant in all of San Francisco. I used to live a block away and would go there all the time. I make a point to eat here every time I’m in town. The pork chop will redefine what a pork chop is to you. I always recommend people on their first visit to order it, you will not be disappointed. The staff are incredibly helpful and kind. If you show up right when they open, you can usually get a seat but otherwise I recommend reservations.
This place is awesome! I think most people know how good the food is, but a pleasant surprise was how good the service is. So attentive and friendly. We were nervous bringing our kids and being under dressed after a long day exploring but everyone was welcoming and kind. The simple cheeseburger was superb and worthy of the menu and newer peach cobbler was fantastic. Happy family!
A transcendent dinining experience full of unique flavor firsts and service of the highest level. Margo took us for a culinary ride suggesting the pork chop, the best ive ever had. A few more choice suggestions had us finishing with the malted chocolate ice cream. It’s clear why this place has stood the test of time. Fresh local ingredients and a staff that loves what they do. Thanks!
Nopa is a standout experience, but what impressed me the most was the impeccable service. The staff was incredibly courteous and attentive, making the entire meal feel special from start to finish. While the menu changes daily, you can count on excellent quality. We had the fried chicken, trout, and the Nopa burger, and everything was fantastic. The burger deserves a special shoutout—the house-made brioche bun is perfectly soft, and the patty is thick, fresh, and cooked just right. The drinks are also top-tier; I asked for an espresso martini (which isn't on the menu), and it was the most perfectly balanced one I've ever had. The restaurant offers a few different vibes depending on where you sit. The second floor felt the most intimate and stylish, while the outdoor seating is a great option if you prefer a quieter setting. A crucial tip: get a reservation. It will make your life so much easier. While they do take walk-ins, you should expect a wait. For a place that nails everything from service to food to cocktails, Nopa is absolutely worth planning ahead for.
Shoutout Mira! Nopa is one of the tastiest restaurants I’ve been to in a while. Great atmosphere AMAZING lamb agnolotti and crab. Definitely pricier than most restaurants but super worth it.
Our first time here was for my mom’s birthday, and it did not disappoint! Our server wished my mom happy birthday and brought out a candle dessert at the end. I didn’t get our server’s name but he was super nice and kept checking in on us and made us feel welcome! The small bites were our favorite. Highly recommend.
🌟 NOPA San Francisco: A Bucket List Culinary Triumph! 🌟 Review by: The Bucket List Coach Webshow. I recently had the distinct pleasure of crossing a major culinary destination off my bucket list: NOPA San Francisco. My dining experience on December 12, 2025, was not just a meal; it was an absolute masterclass in hospitality and farm-to-table excellence. Exceptional Service: A Shoutout to Zach! From the moment we sat down, the experience was elevated by our server, Zach. He truly went above and beyond, anticipating needs and offering spot-on recommendations, making the dining experience feel incredibly special and seamless. A massive shoutout to Zach, as well as the entire Culinary team, Management team, and staff—the level of coordination and passion was palpable. Appetizers and Beverages: Instant Classics The meal kicked off with the Date and Pear appetizer, which was absolutely fantastic—a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and texture. And for the beer lovers out there, you must try the Honey Beer 🍺. I'm officially adding this to my personal "Beer Bucket List!" I will absolutely be recommending it to all my followers on my podcast and through my travel agency. Thanks to Woods Beer and Wine Company! The Entrée: Perfection on a Plate For the main course, I opted for the Duck, and it was cooked to perfection. Seriously, melt in the mouth- tender meat was phenomenal. The plate presentation was stunning, far exceeding my expectations—it was a true work of art. The side of Grapefruit and Vinaigrette Salad was the perfect accompaniment. It was one of the best salads I have ever had in San Francisco; the brightness of the grapefruit cut through the richness of the duck beautifully. Desserts: Celebrating National Cocoa Day! To celebrate National Cocoa Day Dec. 13th-I couldn't resist. I highly suggest partaking in the Hot Chocolate for a decadent dessert item—it was rich, velvety, and a perfect holiday treat. And if you still have room, the Cheesecake with Brown Sugar is another truly fantastic dessert that offers a wonderful, comforting finish to the meal. NOPA is more than just a restaurant; it's a destination. The ambiance, the incredible staff like Zach, and the impeccable, thoughtful food quality solidify NOPA as a must-visit spot in San Francisco. It earns its place on any serious foodie's bucket list My video review is on my podcast on both YouTube Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube at bucket list coach web show! Sadly I did not get any photos of our appetizer or entrees. However, everything we got at Nopa was beautiful, including the appetizer (a brisket filled pasta which came ground rather than shredded as I'd envisioned) that wasn't to my taste. My date enjoyed it and was happy to not have to share. I enjoyed the sauce it came with, just a texture thing. He got the pork chop and loved it. I had a bite, and I'm curious how do they get it so tender?? I got the fried chicken. The hot honey is incredible, and they put cardamom in their brine or maybe their breading? Nice complexity. Could have used more pickles, personally, but I didn't ask for more. I have a feeling it would have been no problem to get some. Both desserts were wonderful. Nice atmosphere. Weird bathroom setup lol. Phenomenal waiter.
Fernando was our server and so nice. Food was great. For such a popular SF restaurant it was a mellow vibe. Couples, families and old friends. Great atmosphere. It’s loud but fun. The mousse app was great and the fried chicken was fantastic.
Absolutely stellar service, food, and drinks. Our server was attentive and helpful all the way through. The fried chicken was stellar. Sweetly spiced and paired well with the blistered shishitos. And having a flight of whiskeys that are rare and usually pretty pricey (Larue, Handy, Van Winkle) for under $30 was a huge surprise. An extra Elmer T Lee pour for $24 was the icing. Just a fantastic experience. 👏
Had an unforgettable meal at Nopa — every dish was thoughtful, fresh, and full of heart. Margot was a wonderful server. I started with the crudo, which was delicate and bright, followed by the panzanella and then the cornbread made with flour milled in Napa — deeply flavorful and unique. The fries with basil aioli were great, especially knowing the basil came straight from the farmers market. The beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned, and dessert was next-level: the chocolate ice cream with olive oil and flaky salt was rich and surprising in the best way, and the blueberry biscuit dessert truly blew me away. A beautiful balance of comfort and creativity. Can’t wait to come back
Food was great. I ordered a couple of drinks and some food. Was recommend to try the chicken which was better than expected. Crispy skin, juicy and hot (fresh), the pickled veggies that came along were mint! Will try something else next time. Well worth it. Only caveat, is it was REALLY loud while I was there. I sat at the bar and had to put my headphones in just to turn down the noise.
I have an unreal backlog of new restaurants I've tried, so here we go again--starting with Nopa! Nopa genuinely surprised me. Despite its lower Yelp ratings, everything exceeded my expectations. We were seated upstairs, which helped with the medium-loud atmosphere and noise level. Service was wonderful, even with a small snafu - still absolutely no complaints. To start, we had the soup--perfect for the chilly night. Then came the smoked trout latke, hands down the best thing I've had in a while. If you order just one thing here, let it be the latke. Trust me. Next up was the roasted lamb. Cooked beautifully, but the small potato chips on the side? Not a fan. They felt out of place and took away from the dish. For mains, we debated between the pork chop, steak, and cheeseburger. But when you see nearly everyone in the restaurant ordering the burger, you kinda have to. And let me tell you, it was the right call. A hefty beef patty, and the cheddar cheese they used was incredible. I could eat pounds of that cheese on its own - as someone who rarely eats dairy. We also ordered the chicory salad, which was supposed to replace the fries. But the kitchen forgot our request, so we ended up with both--no complaints there. Parking is nonexistent in SF. Save yourself the headache and just Uber. Thankfully, my girl friend lives nearby, so we found a spot and walked over. Good vibes, great food--9.5/10. Would definitely return.
We ordered the: Fried Local Fish - turned out to be great, Grilled Calamari - which was a complete let down because it was a bit rubbery and the beans were overly salted, Tagliatelle - was quite alright, Dry Aged New York Steak - was cooked pretty well, and Pork Chop - was moist and fell off the bone. Overall, I definitely expected a lot more from this place.
The place is a bit noisy, and it was pretty packed but service was quick, gentle and I couldn't ask for more. The food was delicious, the bolognesa was insanely good and tasty with some super tender vegetable. The smoke brisket delicious and super tasty. The parmesan eggplant was also a nice choice with highlights to the pesto sauce. For appetizers we had the trout which was great to share for two people. The chocolate tart was ok. Will definitely come back.
Highly recommended. Vibrant atmosphere, knowledgeable service, well executed dishes, and inventive cocktails. The pork chop and the stracciatella starter were mind blowing. Pro tip: the mains are large so consider sharing between two. Great for a date or a good dinner with friends. It’s noisy so probably no first dates. Attire smart casual. Get a cab as it’s hard to park nearby.
Loved everything, but standouts were the gigante beans and the fried chicken, both which could not have been more perfectly executed. Perfectly tender chicken with crispy coating and no grease.

This spot is awesome, and our server Matthew was an absolute gem. Definitely recommend the brocollini and trout latkes!

This was our best meal in San Francisco. Highlights of our dinner included the pork chop, pappardelle, and tiramisu. But you can’t really go wrong with anything on the menu.

BURGER BURGER BURGER!! Amazing burger for high standard foodie, I will come back for sure just to eat another one, great place, great service and atmosphere.
Was super lucky how we got a spot at the bar within minutes of getting there. Everything was super yummy. Smoked trout beets quinoa salad was perfect. Brussel sprouts had a tad much balsamic, but still yummy. Tagine. OMG, so yummy!! And their drinks menu was extensive and cocktails were delicious. Can't wait till my next visit, if only I can be so lucky again. :p Came back now with a reservation with my lady friends. All I can say is that food is amazing. Service was fantastic. Even had leftovers to take home. What more can a girl ask for?🥰🥰
We enjoyed our dinner at Nopa. We both had fresh margaritas for drinks and they were delicious. The appetizer we ordered was delicious (I can’t remember the name, the menu changes regularly). The bolognese type dish my girlfriend ordered was also very good. The burger has a very good wood grilled taste, but is extremely dry, I would recommend another dish. The French fries are the perfect amount of crisp. Overall a very good meal, but only 4 stars due to the food taking a little while to come out and having to sit outside on the patio during a rather cold night in San Fran.
Went to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We had not been to Nopa in years and it wasn’t as good as we remember. The cocktails were great but we didn’t feel the food was worth the price this round. The service is great. It is a loud place, so not recommended for a quiet romantic style meal. We started with the Focaccia which was the best item we ordered. The moroccan spiced fried chicken didn’t work for us and the burger was disappointing for $28.
Had dinner here for my 20th bday. The vibe for this place felt very fresh and upbeat. The food was delicious but didn’t immensely wow me. The staff were very kind and extremely knowledgeable about their menu despite the fact that the ingredients change every day. I love how they source their ingredients from local farmers markets every day.
Here the service is on par if not better than the food. Our waiter, patient and explaining the options, other people who came to our table with silverware or to clean very smiling ear to ear - all good signs that this place keeps their people happy. The food was a standard Californian fare with good mix of some vegetarian options. If you're gluten free and/or vegan, there is not much here for you. As vegetarians, everything we ordered tasted wonderful. The appetizers fill you up and we had difficulty finishing our two entrees we shared between us three. The butter beans with feta, vegetables stew, paparadelle pasta made vegetarian and flatbread were good. We didn't have reservations but we got a table on the sidewalk next to the covered street section. We had heaters behind and on top of the table but the San Francisco winds made the dining uncomfortable. If you can, avoid the sidewalk seating.
We had the warm goat cheese, baked beans, farro risotto, the fries chicken, the mai main main na drink and the old fashioned drink. The mai mai mai drink was full of ice and not very tasty, tasted like cough syrup medicine. The fried chicken has 4 portions and my husband enjoyed half of it. The warm goat cheese was good and a pretty good portion of crispy bread slices and cheese with jam on top. The baked beans were the highlight, I would order that again and wished it was a bigger portion, it didn't come with bread or anything and it also included cheese and tomatoes which went well together. Server was good, but around the middle of our meal, he got busy and disappeared, I was hoping to try another drink but ended up not ordering since I was done with my meal. We waited quite a long time between our small plate appetizers and main entree plates, maybe about 30 min. I noticed we for served at the same time as the people next to us at the community table who had arrived about 20-30 minutes after that, so star of for timing. I would come back again and try different things. As a vegetarian, I had enough things to choose from.
The service was really good I can’t fault it, but for the price and setting it was probably what you’d expect. The high ceilings do a lot for the space, which is bustling but not crowded or feeling like a business. Exposed kitchens are fun, so together with quality of the drinks Nopa is pretty high up on the list of bars. The cocktail menu is a display of the craft that drink service can be. It is full of intrigue and the items that we tried offered instant appreciation of the time that must have gone into their design. The food didn’t hit me the same way. None of our starters, two mains or desserts did anything to surprise me, still good food perhaps the bar was just set too high.
Good experience overall. The food was generally of a high quality. We had the lettuce salad (excellent and the best item of the meal), the broccoli side dish (good with a bright lemony flavor), the fried chicken (crispy skin, good flavor, white meat pieces were dry), and the winter vegetable tagine (good). Overall, I think the dishes were too salty. Would be better to serve the food with a bland starch. Service was excellent and a highlight. All the staff were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Nice, warm atmosphere, but kind of noisy so conversation was not the easiest.
Been to NOPA a few times the past few years. It's an SF institution, favorite place of some of our chef friends. We think it's a solid dining destination, all the dishes are good, close to great. Worth a visit if you are in town. In all our visits, the service has been phenomenal and great
Came for the burger. Not a 10/10, but better than I expected. I like a simple, meat-forward burger, and this is definitely one. The flavor of the meat is what immediately puts it higher in my book compared to many other places around here. Some notes: - The patty is a bit too thick. Squeezing it will not help much. Ladies beware, you might look ugly while eating this. - The patty is juicy enough on the inside, but ok-ish (I hate this word) on the outside. The crust is not as enjoyable but still good. - The cheddar cheese was nice but came too melty, so the distribution of the cheese got a bit skewed to one side (gotta maximize the entropy of that distribution). - Raw white onions would have been better imho. - A good ol’ pickle with this meaty burger would have been such a “relish”. - Fries were just ok, probably the weakest part of the dish. The ketchup and pesto mayo helped the fries. It’s usually the opposite way around. If you like burgers and you are in San Francisco, then I believe Nopa is worth a try. They have other options that looked interesting, so do check out the other reviews as well. UPDATE: I tried this restaurant again with two colleagues and tried many other dishes. The burger was noticeably worse and the other dishes were ok but not that good. The service was also slightly lacking. I felt like it was a 3-star experience overall, so I’ll take off one star.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening with great service and great wines. Wide variety of wines are available, have a chat with the wine director to find something to your liking. Halibut crudo was excellent, and warm goat cheese paired well with the crouton bread. Nopa burger was juicy and thick, on delicious buns. Fries went well with ketchup and creamy avocado garlic dip. Portions are generous.

I sadly did not document my meal as usual, but I had started with their 50/50 Martini and it was GOOD! I tried my friend's drink and it was very tasty too. We ordered a few small plates and some large plates to share. Small Plates: Fried Local Rockfish - Hell Yes Stracciatella - Good and Refreshing Smokes Trout Latkes - Hell Yes Some Ravioli Dish - Okay Large Plates Tagliatelle - Okay Winter Vegetable Tagine - Okay Dry Aged Steak - the most expensive item and the worst tasting 😢 This was my first time here and I would just stick to small plates. I would come again and hopefully the kitchen will prove me wrong about the large plates. Service was great and the atmosphere is lively. The food had high and low notes, but average with this visit. The drinks I tried were great! I would come again if I was in the neighborhood for the small plates.
Dinner on the 27th was a disappointment. Food and bar service was slow but the waiter was attentive. The food was poorly prepared. We had to send one of our pork chops back, being very undercooked, thought the other was a perfect pinky medium. The manager did comp us that bad item. Unfortunately, the burgers were in the other direction as overworked meatloaf, tough and dense. The worse was the fries, they were under-salted and the way they were cooked while hot with a slight crisp, was basically overdone mush on the inside. I don't think we will go back.
I like to find new places to eat when I am in SF and so was this case. I read an article which listed the best burger restaurants. Nopa was on the list so I decided to go. My first recommendation if you want to go, is to reserve your table, otherwise you’ll wait for at least two hours to be sited. Another option is to have a seat at the bar or a shared table. In my case, I was tired and wanted to have dinner in a table. The hostess was kind to offer me a table even without reservation. The burger was tasty but in my opinion it’s not the best I’ve ever had. Be careful when eating it as it is hot inside. The broccoli entree is yummy and loved that they have ginger beer. There are other meal options that I’ll give a try next time I am in town.
This place was highly recommended by locals, so I decided to try it when I was in SF. I ordered their burger, and it took almost one hour to get my order, in the meantime the waiter gently offered a salad as a courtesy from the house. The burger meat was well done (ordered medium) and the taste was ok. In the end, they added the “courtesy” salad to the check, so I had to ask for them to remove it - which they’ve made. In summary, it’s the restaurant was a cool place, but the food and service didn’t meet their fame in my experience.
good vibes but limited mains option. The fried chicken was ok, but not spectacular... We managed to get a table at 8pm on the day itself. It was crowded ... I guess good for drinks but not a heavy dinner meal occasion
Sad to say this place is no longer what it used to be. Experience started off strongly with a hostess that could best described as hostile. I came in for dinner and to meet a friend before a show. I arrived on time; she was about seven minutes late looking for parking. In that short window, the server tried to take my drink order twice, which set the tone for the rest of the meal. The rushing never stopped. When our appetizer hit the table, we were told our mains had to come out in 15 minutes so we wouldn’t “lose our place in the queue.” Five minutes later, a busser showed up to announce our mains were already ready. At that point, we honestly had no idea what schedule we were supposed to be on. We asked the server to slow things down, which somehow made the whole interaction more awkward instead of less. Meanwhile, a the table behind us that had been seated before us seemed to be enjoying a very leisurely dinner, even after we’d paid the check. I genuinely think the only difference between that table and ours is that we were two young women, who they figured could be pushed around more easily in the hope of turning the table more quickly. As for the food: bland, low-quality, and tasted more defrosted rather than cooked. Super unlovingly slopped onto the plate, almost looked accidental. The tables were packed so tightly that the man behind me and I were basically sharing a chair back. Add in multiple screaming toddlers within arm’s reach, and you get what was the worst dinner I've had in SF in recent memory. NOPA had a great run, but it may be time to let its glory days live on in memory.
Went to Nopa with my brother last Friday based on a friend’s recommendation, and unfortunately we were both pretty disappointed with the food. It was our first time there, and given how busy the place was, we suspect we may have gone on an off day. The space itself is great, and our server Jordan was fantastic. However, the food lacked flavor and was overall underwhelming, specially considering the price point. We ordered the warm goat cheese, the flatbread, and two burgers. The first two were fine, but nothing special. The burger, however, was quite disappointing. The bread-to-meat ratio was off, and the meat itself lacked seasoning and flavor. Again, this may not reflect their usual standard, but based on this visit, the food didn’t live up to the hype

Waited 30 minutes and got a seat at the communal table, it's first come first serve. I wanted some non-alcoholic drinks but they don't have a menu for that. When I asked the waitress, she listed out some basic drinks like ginger beer and lemonades. Later, I saw a lot of coffee and Samovar tea options on the dessert menu. I don't understand why they didn't just give me that in the first place when I asked for non-alcoholic options. My group ordered 2 appetizers: smelt, and brisket. The smelt are just battered fried fish, nothing special, briskets are a bit salty for me (I only like the accompanied sauerkraut). I got the seafood stew (cod & clams). The stew came with a giant dollop of horseradish cream that burns, they should have put the horseradish on a separate container. The fish was pretty salty and the horseradish was too pungent and kinda ruined the whole dish. Nope is a bust for me. For the same price, I would rather go to Rich Table and have something tasty and unique.
We were excited to try Nopa however we were disappointed with the food. We had the shishito peppers which were extremely spicy, to the point where we couldn’t even eat them (for context, I enjoy and can handle a lot of spice, and these were just unnecessarily, excessively spicy). The fried chicken was not great — the batter was crisp and not too greasy, but the chicken itself was a bit dry and lacked flavor, and the pickles tasted stale. The eggplant parm was served semi-cold and had a thick layer of batter that was crunchy on top, but soggy underneath. The only dish we enjoyed was the tuna tartare - that was delicious, but unfortunately came as a very small portion size, enough for about 4-5 bites. I must say, the service was fine - our server was friendly, efficient, and quick to give recommendations.
This is not the place to go for food or innovative cocktails. I have lived here for 20 years and unfortunately this mgmt has gotten off the mark. Carrot mezcal cocktail two flavors fighting for attention and no blend. Flatbread is dominated by preserved lemon and nothing else. We appreciated service despite never bringing water and as a former member of service industry? This was just a major fail. I can’t recommend and suggest going elsewhere.
nopa gets a nope from me. the service was lackluster, with our mains coming out over 40minutes late. the food was forgettable, with the salad being the best dish of the night. overall disappointed with this place and it was laughable how far they fell from the mark. early girls: refreshing and juicy, enjoyed this dish cultured bread and butter: nothing memorable, bread was cold fried chicken: hard skip, too salty but also bland cheeseburger: why did i have to build my own burger. wasn’t even tasty. skip. tagliatelle: solid dish
Wow what a disappointment! We were excited to try this hyped up restaurant, but were sorely disappointed in the food quality and cost. The cauliflower appetizer was literally uneatable. There were no florets in our dish, just stems that were undercooked. It looked like NOPA bought the scraps from a farmers market, passed it over an open flame, doused it in olive oil and then marked it up 500%. Your chef should be ashamed. Worse, the dish cost close to $20! I’m only giving this 2 instead of 1 stars because the services was accepted and the ambiance interesting.
We came to Nopa for our anniversary and were seated 15 minutes late, but the staff made us feel like a burden rather than guests. The manager’s tone was unwelcoming, the atmosphere was cold as the waiter forgot to add a candle to our table. The food was underwhelming: steak had rough ligaments in it, and appetizers were overly oily (lke a patter with olive oil plus breat soaked in olive oil). All dishes arrived at once, and we were given the check without being asked about dessert. For nearly $200, the experience felt disappointing and dismissive.
