This place has awesome food and great ambience. We ordered Donburi with curry, yam tempura rolls and jalapeño poppers with salmon. Curry was flavorful, yam rolls were crispy with a hint of sweetness and the poppers were spicy delights without being too cheesy. All in all, this was one of the best Japanese meals I’ve had. Service was quick and cheerful. Reserve in advance if you want a table. Wait times are around 20 mins for bar seating, on weekends.
I've walked pass here all the time and thought that this fancy place would be expensive. But actually it's not that much. My friend loves sashimi so we went here. The oyster was really fresh. We ordered half dozen to tried it out first, for $6 so 1$ each. Althought they were a bit small but for that price, it was fair, we ended up order another half dozen oysters. We also tried different types of sushi, like $5 for 2 (they were fresh), sashimi with rice (really good), miso soup (it was okay). Overal, I definitely would come back for more oysters and sashimis.
I really love Sakesan because service is good and sushis are delicious. I was refusing to eat sushi, however I dined in Sakesan one time just to try sushi and that place made me in love with sushi. Yesterday, we got 5 sushi rolls. These are 3 49ers, one cherry blossom and 1 spicy tuna cucumber roll. We loved 49ers and cherry blossom. Spicy tuna roll was good. Last time when we dined in we got phoenix but it as so heavy for us. The only thing we don’t like about Sakesan is there could be more design rolls with fish instead of shrimp. I think most of the rolls are with shrimp. If you don’t like shrimp, you don’t have so many choices.
I highly recommend Sakesan! This restaurant is the definition of good Japanese food. The staff is friendly, atmosphere is friendly and the decor is very new and modern. The sushi here is on par with places such as Nobu, Sushi Yasuda and Masa. This particular visit was my second time here and my experience just keeps getting better. We asked the sushi chef for recommendations and were offered a chef's choice omakase. We ordered it without knowing what to expect. I'm glad we did because the attached pictures were what we received... All amazing! In addition, we are huge fans of the hot dishes. This time we ordered the Chicken Karaage, Salmon collar, Jalapeno Poppers, several Robota dishes, and the Lion King roll. I make an effort to dine at Sakesan everytime I'm in town. This is hands down one of top choices in SF.
This restaurant is excellent! Everything is super fresh. We ordered so many things: raw oysters, soft shell crab, octopus karaage, agedashi tofu, chirashi don, udon, multiple skewers, different nigiris, and the wagu rice ball. Delicious! I didn’t get to take pics of everything bc my family gobbled the food so fast. Service was very friendly. Restaurant is very clean. I can’t wait to go back
We love Sakesan. The quality is always great and they are always so helpful with our special requests regarding us being Gluten Free. We do a lot of take out, but also love going in when time allows.
Hands down one of my favorite Japanese places. They are very creative and make Japanese versions of some American foods like jalapeno poppers. The avocado bomb is delicious along with every roll we've tried. I will be ordering from here as long as I live here! So unique. I went to school in Japan and I feel like this place would be HUGE in Tokyo.
Definitely one if the best sushi restaurant I have ever had while living in SF. Their fish is extremely fresh and have great service. The servers are extremely nice. The inside is nice and cozy, great for any time of the year. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice family owned sushi restaurant in San Francisco.
Very good food. Lots of selection. Very friendly staff. Happy hour has pretty good selection and fair prices.
Sushi was great. My friend an I had the cherry blossom sushi with a seaweed salad, Goya’s, and hot sake. The sake was great. Warm and nourishing on a cold winter night. Food was good.
The food was amazing, quality was on point. I’d get everything again minus the chicken katsu. The volcano roll and Godzilla roll are incredible, the takoyaki is worth getting, and the lamb stank was phenomenal! The tuna tacos were so fresh. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Service was also incredible, very attentive! Lastly, food came out quickly! Very impressed!
Such a fun and chill spot! The food is delicious, the vibe is super casual, and the service is fast and friendly. The prices are great—you can’t beat their deal of 1 dozen oysters for $12! Plus, they have private rooms with karaoke, which are perfect for groups and fun for all ages. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to!
Came here for Christmas with my family and we had a great time! This is our second time here and won’t be our last! We came around 5pm, we got a reservation, and we were seated right away. We first ordered from their happy hour menu and then their regular menu. My favorite dish was their sashimi, the hamachi carpaccio, and their Inside out roll. Their sashimi is super fresh and was so delicious. The dishes came out pretty fast & service was wonderful! Everything we ordered: - Takoyaki - Crispy mushroom - Dynamite mussels - Godzilla Roll - California roll - Inside out roll - Dragon roll - Lobster roll - Hamachi carpaccio - Albacore tataki - Rainbow roll - 8 piece sashimi
This is our local gem on Ocean Ave. We found this place during the pandemic. Even though I love to go at happy hour time for beers, I love the specials menu a lot. It's being presented beautifully and taste fresh and yummy, most importantly, it won't break the bank. I enjoy sitting by the window and the seat you need to remove your shoes and sit on the floor like a Japanese. That area of seats let me enjoy my meal most. Pls remember to make a reservation and try to appoint yourself to the VIP area. If they reject you, try to negotiate with them about 1 hour or less.
Gonna keep this short: Found this place on Yelp/Google as a late-night Saturday night dining option. What a pleasant surprise. My only gripe is that the portions are a little small, but that can be overlooked as all the items we ordered were INCREDIBLY tasty and very fresh. Some of the rolls were very innovative, and the ones whose names are commonplace (i.e., Dragon Roll, Lion (King) Roll, Rainbow Roll)) were delicious. Definitely work a trip back, multiple times!!
Nice addition to the neighborhood. Good Japanese dining with wide selection of dishes. Not just the usual sushi and rolls. Fresh fish, seafood, daily oyster specials, noodles, grilled items, sukiyaki ... you get the idea. Gets crowded but worth the wait and service is fast once seated. Also have a few private party rooms.
I just ordered from Uber Eats! Can I just say phenomenal! I always want an extra side of ell sauce, yum yum sauce and believe it or not extra cream cheese with my sushi! They packaged my food up with care and it tasted delectable. I mean downright mouth watering! I enjoyed every single bit.
Very clean and very delicious! Can’t go wrong with happy hour + $1 oysters here! The service was great and we will definitely be back! They also have some larger karaoke rooms which would be so fun to go with friends!
Order raw oysters. Fresh and great deal at $1 each. Very friendly service.
This place is amazing!! All of the meal was absolutely delicious!! And the service was fast, friendly and on point. Even during happy hour, they never made you wait so the food costs more. I completely prefer this site more then their location on Geary. I have tried the other location on Geary, but the food is just better here, visually and for my taste buds. It is a must to try. Happy hour from 4-6 every day, with no judgement from the ladies serving food. Highly recommend to all. For Friends to hang or family nights. They accommodate both. And they have very large private karaoke rooms. Come one, come all. And save another space for me, we will be back!! 👍👍👍
Super fun, great happy hour with amazing deals and delicious food!
Nice place located high on the tops of San Fran. As expensive as it is to live there, this restaurant is quality affordable, not saying that it is bad quality, because the sushi is fresh and the rest of the food are great. They have a section where it is an authentic shoes off and sit on hardwood experience, and the other side is for the common folk. Over all great place to eat sushi in an otherwise expensive city

Coming to this place is always a treat! All of their fish tastes so fresh and their drinks are tasty. You can't go wrong with anything you order here - from the rolls to the udon noodles to the wide range of appetizers they offer. They're always busy so make a reservation, or just be patient as they're working as quickly as they can to get everyone their food while providing good service.
This place is the best sushi spot I have been to in SF! It’s such fast service, friendly staff, and unique setup with its barefoot traditional dining where you sit on the floor (on cushions or special sunken areas) at low tables, and regular seating as well. I got the spicy salmon roll from the happy hour menu, and the dragon roll + edamame and miso soup. Overall 10/10 experience and we even found parking right out front!

Typically we don't have very many "fancy" restaurants on the Ocean corridor so it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The outside is nondescript but the inside is sleek and modern. The highlight of the menu was definitely the rolls. We got the Kirin, Inside Out and 49er rolls. Each was fresh with the right amount of sushi rice tang and not heavily loaded sauce. The hamachi carpaccio was also light with the perfect amount of acidity. I took one star off for the Robata. The grilled food (scallops, chicken skin, pork belly) was alright but pricey for the portion amount. Nothing stellar or any standouts. Definitely get the fresh wasabi! Worth the $3. Also there are two private rooms in back with a large table and private screen to watch sports games or sing karaoke. One note on karaoke - the screens throughout the restaurant show karaoke music so be prepared for loud (oftentimes bad) singing from other tables.
We got a variety of things for takeout. When we visited the restaurant for pickup, it looked nice and clean. We ordered around 6:00 pm and had a notification that the pickup would be 7:00 pm, but we got our food around 7:40 pm... The reason that it took so long could be understaffing issues and that there were a lot of pickup orders with the indoor diners (seemed to be about three tables). The grilled Hamachi Kama was bland. The Onigiri looked crunchy but it wasn't - just hard rice. Everything else we got - Bluefin Toro Tartare, spider roll, chirashi don - was good or alright.
This was my second time in a karaoke room and I really wanted it to be great. I booked 3 hours in the 12 person karaoke room. There were tech issues in the beginning (song words not playing on the big screen & a dead mic) and throughout (some song background music was so quiet the singer couldn't hear it even at full volume and some were super loud. Some background music stopped half way through a song for no reason. Another dead mic). There really isn't enough space to maneuver up front and although there were plenty of songs in multiple languages, there were no Spanish songs. However, the food was so good, everyone had a great time, and the air conditioning was on so even though we were jammed packed, the air felt comfortable. It's hard to find a karaoke room so close to my home so I may be back, even with the challenges.
Good food. There was some weird video playing of an intimate adult experience. I saw some parents grabbing their kids heads to shield them from the video, it was a bit odd. Food was good, a little on the pricy side. Everything came out tasting good.
Was here to with family. The food was nice. Got omakase 20 piece and a bunch of skewers. The oysters was fresh. Recommend the skewers. They are tasty and portion is pretty good. They are from 2 to 6 pieces each. The omakase was ok. Not the best I had but decent. The Nebe Udon was good. The only bad one that I don't recommend is the beef don. It is not the same beef you normally use for this and it is a bit tough. The sauce was not the same as other beef don. Overall, great restaurant and the service is really good.
Not many $1 oysters left in SF so we were 110% happy to finally try Sakesan. We mainly ordered from their happy hour menu like the chicken karaage (fried well and had skin), takoyaki (careful it's very hot!), sushi taco (was alright). We also tried their treasure bowl.. we like the idea of shaved ankimo on top, but the ikura overpowered everything. The oysters aren't huge but can't complain cuz $1 each. The oyster shooter was a bit of a miss.. we weren't able to taste the uni.
Very nice and modern restaurant serving mostly Japanese sushi and ramen. The sushi was excellent. It was very fresh though the pieces were a bit small. The quality was obvious as both the cherry blossom roll and our nigiri were really fresh and flavorful. The ramen is a totally different story. We also had the tonkatsu black garlic ramen and it was watery and bland. It had good noodles but the broth tasted like warm water. Do NOT get the ramen (go across the street to taste 21!!!). We also had a dozen oysters for only one dollar each which was also very good!

Service was a little slow and disconnected. They forgot about my order and when I reminded them, said they were still cooking. It doesn't take more than 30 minutes to cook a thin chicken breast. It was also burned. Nice restaurant.
So I went to a very large restaurant in West portal the day before and I had a very good meal. I did not feel sick after the next day I went to this restaurant and I woke up sick the next day. It’s happened to me every time I’ve gone to this restaurant. So every time I go there to eat I get sick now and it’s a snotty nose stuffy full on sick in my lungs the whole thing my conclusion is they’re not washing the dishes enough. This is a family location. A lot of families and kids are always there maybe we need to consider that in our dishwashing considering last time there was a. Kid with a cell phone in my ear playing cartoons at the bar well, his parents ignored him. His cell phone was literally underneath my ear as I ate a $60 meal I’m so pissed off. The bathroom is overflowing with a some sort of pipe problem for the last two years. My last review was very nice and friendly but this one I’m going to tell the truth you’re wontons tasted horrible whatever oil you cook them in and the fish is incredibly tasty and fresh when the eel always taste like gasoline or whatever you. Cooked it under a flame with a lot of gas and then it taste like gas I’ve never told you that but here it goes. There’s the truth folks the truth is you’ve been half way there for too long. I heard the Clement restaurant is the best one and this one is a runner up and it definitely is a runner up after my experience last night and spending $60 on a meal that I could not enjoy it and I had a stomach ache after from having cartoons blasted in my ear Buy a child that was being ignored by his parents and also by the weight staff while I was eating I’m not sure I will be back two blocks from my house and this is what I get. Well, I guess the shootings at the end of the block go along with the rest of it this neighborhood sucks. But I do intend to clean it up and I have contacted the police department and now I’ll contact the building department since you have not been able to contact the building department and turn your owner in the building is obviously not maintaining the building which is exactly the same as across the street because my landlord also owns the building across the street that’s not being maintained and also my building here on Miramar as I’m not being maintained. A lot of people don’t like to maintain buildings and then they like to make money off of it.

Horrible service. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 rolls. Just simple spicy tuna roll kind, not even the baked ones that supposed takes longer (20mins according to the menu). Rolls never came after 50 minutes, so we left. People who came later got their order. It was obvious they forgot our order but no apologies from the serving staff. Don’t go unless you want to spend 2 hours eating a spicy tuna roll.
I ordered chicken teriyaki for my niece, who has food allergies, so she could safely enjoy a meal with us. After a long day and struggling to find parking, we were just hoping to relax and eat. But she quietly mentioned her food didn’t taste right. When we tried it, it was bland and not appetizing at all. She’s shy and didn’t want to complain, but I paid $18.50 for a basic dish that completely missed the mark. When I brought it up, the staff acted like I was the problem instead of offering to make it right. I was just trying to include my niece and make sure she had something safe and decent to eat. Really disappointing food and service.
