I tried some buns from this bakery today for the first time…..I already decided it will be my new favorite neighborhood bakery :)
This is my favorite bakery. Delicious. I love everything. Fresh and very good service.
Best pastries I have had till now. Its clean, and has a lot of options. Napeoleon pastry is the best of all
The owner is really really nice. Nice clean place. Good bakery i would recommend!! 😀
My favorite cake comes from here: Macadamia Mousse Cake. Also great Almond Croissants👍
I’ve always loved this place. Great prices and wonderful fresh baked pastries every day. Reminds me of when I lived in Taiwan (I know they’re HK here but it still gives me the vibes & feels!) 🥰
Come for mooncakes and fresh pastries. Their breads are good as well-recomend their custard, cream cheese, and pineapple walnut breads. Their cakes have gotten pricey over the years, so maybe go elsewhere for those.
I love this bakery - so many delicious baked items! My husband was so happy to come here because they have the curry triangle pastries that he loves in Taiwan.
This is a real no nonsense bakery where prices are very reasonable and the the quality of there foods are excellent. You can literally stuff you face for $15.00! Now a days you can't even get a decent meal at a fast food place.
Love the value on items, I’m loving the 1/2 breads Mocha is my favorite, also got hot dog buns which are my all time favorite lunch spot with variety
Tons of Chinese bakery options that are made well to both look and taste great. A bit of sweet and savery. All tasty and cheap. I'll be back for sure.
They have a HUGE variety of pastries, asian and western, at decent prices, and they are all pretty delicious. Try the custard bread
Had a custard pineapple bun and it was very good. Pearson at the counter was pleasant and helpful.
Nice bakery with great hk milk tea. I like the cashier who has an amazing attitude and believes in paying it forward!
The place to go for all your Chinese baked goods. You can even get Pineapple buns here that are pretty good, if the line at Pineapple King down the street is busy.
The blueberry cream cheese tarts are the reason my 7 month vegan streak ended. The service here is exceptional. The staff has always been so sweet and helpful to me.
It's always dangerous to go there. I say "I'll just get one custard tart" and i leave with almond cookies, pork bun, coconut bun, cream bun... And a coffee . ,😋😁 and my long time favorites beef curry horns
First time here, and I could smell it from the street, calling me to come inside. There were so many different selections I walked around twice to make sure I saw everything and a third time to get everything I wanted. Bought 5 different items and loved each one!!! The strawberry🍓 cake behind the glass is 🤌🏽👌🏽🫶🏽
Great Taiwanese pastries and a lot of selection. I placed a phone order for pick up that was reasonably priced; got several purple romance buns (taro filled), Hong Kong pineapple buns, and red bean filled buns. Street parking was very easy as it was right when it first opened in the morning.
Pineapple sugar bun and hot milk tea is perfect on a cold winter day, just $4 before 2pm. My go-to!
This is one of my favorite Chinese bakeries. If I'm on Irving I have to stop by and grab a couple pastries. My favorites are purple romance (taro bun), apple turnover, pineapple buns, egg tarts, and coconut cream bun. Keep in mind - Min $10 for credit/debit cards!
Good bakery with reasonable prices! Always fresh and delicious cakes!
Absolutely delicious and very affordable! Enjoyed breakfast here 2 days in a row. So many great options. Wonderful and unique food. Yummy and light and caramel latte was superb. Really enjoyed this place while visiting San Fran. Definitely recommended!
best buns in the Sunset!! sweet, savory, traditional or experimental, they've got it all. it's affordable & delicious. most weekends there's a line out the door unless you get there right when they open. I also love their cakes!! best local bun/Chinese pastry local chain! makes a walk along Irving st. extra delicious!!
Wow, this place is incredible. Bakeries that cater to vegans are rare enough, but one that offers vegan options that taste good and are affordable is a true gem. Sheng Kee is fabulous and beloved by vegans like me as well as those with standard diets. I especially love the moon cakes from here. They come in a range of flavors that are all delicious.
not to criticize SF or Oakland Chinatown bakeries. But Sheng Kee Irving tasted more refined. Prices were great also!!
The bakery on Irving must have consolidated as I couldnt find the small Shun Kee bakery. The larger one was out of most pastries late in the afternoon. I found 3 that I had eaten 2 yrs ago & bought them. Oh so good. Like heaven in your mouth. I bought one with matcha, an ube one and a pineapple custard. All 3 were yummy. I highly recommend Shun Kee Bakery.
Amazing assortment of Chinese sweets and breads. Everything comes in a sealable bag which is great because it keeps it fresh. So many good things to choose from and it is hard to choose just a few things. Prices are exceptional if you are willing to drive outside of Downtown Chinatown. I would give this place ten stars if I could!
What is this hidden pot of gold kind of bakery, better than everything I've tried in Chinatown??? Love everything here... don't waste your time with other bakeries
I've gone back a few times now and everything I've tried has been absolutely lovely. I would definitely recommend their coffee pudding if you are a fan of bittersweet desserts. Everything is very reasonably priced and perfect for a cheap and tasty on-the-go snack. If you plan to use a credit card, they do have a $10 minimum.
Excellent baked goods at reasonable prices. Their cakes look fantastic. The frosting is more mousse like. It isn't overly sweet and is quite fluffy. The savory items taste pretty good too
Really love the cakes, delicious and quite pretty for a very decent price. I get one here for every major holiday or birthday and everyone is always impressed with how nice they look and the quality. I've ordered online or called the day before and never had an issue. So glad I found this bakery!
Stumbled in exploring the strip and the store front looked welcoming. I self serviced and picked up a egg tart and HK style pineapple bun for $3.5. My god, both were freshly made without a doubt. The crunchy, pillowy softness of the bread will make you melt.
Reliable and good quality bakery for the price. Regularly stop by here when I’m craving a treat and buy this for breakfast at work. Staff is always very helpful. Different baked goods at different times of day. They’re popular so they will sell out! Sponge roll cakes are my favorite compared to other places in the city. Also love the fruit custard boats. Recently tried the cake slices and they are also very good, favorite is the macademia nut
I have been coming here for over 30 years! We get our birthday and wedding cakes from here, as well as our weekly Taiwan toast bread and chicken pies and egg custard tart. The quality is consistent and the prices are amazing. I would highly recommend trying Sheng Kee for any of your bakery needs.
INCREDIBLE!!! Yummy, yummy, yummy! And most of their mooncake is 100% plant-based <3 (vegan). Natural sugars from date and lotus, so nourishing and wholesome for mid-Autumn festival. I love them myself and Brother loved them as gift for the holiday So blessed to have this bakery close to my apartment <3
Really good Asian bakery, with very reasonable prices, I got like four pastries for $8.
If I lived around the corner from here like my brother does, I’d have a pastry and a HK milk tea every morning. Alas, I only get it when I visit! Ham and mushroom pastry for breakfast and the bun stuffed with whipped butter topped with coconut are my favorites!
The blueberry cream danish (pictured below) is so fluffy and fresh, and not stale. I got this plus the bacon pastry for under $5. Credit card minimum is $10. The bacon pastry doesn’t taste that good cold so I recommend heating up any savory pastries that aren’t still warm.
First time at this bakery and cafe. Serving delicious cakes, loafs, crème-stuffed baked goods. The walnut loaf and pineapple custard bun are both worth a visit.
Love this kind of buying experience! The red bean bun, cream bun, and apple turnover were all so yummy. Later I went back for an almond croissant and a delicious custard tart.

I love getting cakes from here. They are fresh and something different and priced to compare to the usual Safeway birthday cake. Looking for a quick dessert to bring to a dinner party? Try their cake log.
Was pretty good..like most other asian bakeries and.with few items that are different..otherwise similar The taro bun was good not stuffed with sweet stuff inside like 85 degrees it was too sweet at that bakery this one here was good
Good prices for decent Hong Kong-style bread/pastries. The hot HK-style milk tea is great at $1.6. Tables can be kept cleaner though.
Great little pastry shop that also serves tea and bubble tea. Staff members speak fluent Cantonese and some Mandarin. Washroom available for customers only, must ask for key.
Extremely wide selection of both savory and sweet pastries, treats, cakes, tarts etc. It seemed to be a very efficient store layout as everything is serve-yourself. This makes everything super quick and with very little wait time
Fast staff, and great baked goods. I came here to do homework, and it's not a bad environment for that (especially with the nearby Starbucks being packed). They have milktea, but it was just okay.
I love the toast bread here and the mochi bun. I just got the tiger milk tea it is a mix of Thai milk tea with regular milk tea. The price is fair and the buns are delicious. The wait is short. I'm definitely coming back to try the other buns!
it would be a 5-star but number one your prices keep going up and number to you keep running out of product at the end of the day. I was there twice looking for the coconut buns and you were sold out. As far as deliciousness goes though you're definitely a five-star. Watch out for Pineapple bakery though down the street on Irving.
Nice bakeries, try the Berry Tale (better than 85C cafe version) and their iced boba milk tea, its decent for the price. Though try keep your posted prices consistent with your updated one on the receipts.
the bread and other baked goods here is the best in SF compared to other bakeries. And it is the most Taiwanese-like(I am an international student from Taiwan) I like their Taro buns because it's not too sweet and I can taste the real taro inside it.
I like Sheng Kee since they have tasty bakery items that are not too sweet. As a European their items are much more aligned with my taste buds than the usual American bakery goods, which tend to be too sweet.
Soft fluffy buns and rolls, both savory and sweet are offered here as well as cookies and small sandwiches. A great place to pick up a snack before heading off to the park or exploring the neighborhood.
This Sheng Knee has been around since I was a kid living in the area. This store has been here for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life I have seen this store reinvent itself and gone through some changes but has always provided affordable good pastries. Pro tip: they usually have bi-weekly promotions on some items and the Hong Kong milk tea here is cheaper and just as good as elsewhere.
I'm a huge pastry fan, especially the buns, so Sheng Kee is like heaven to me. I live only a block away so on average, I stop by here 2-3 times a week. Favorites include the BBQ pork bun, coconut roll, taro bun, custard and egg tarts. They have a large selection of cakes and fresh baguette.
I’ve tried an assortment of the pastries from Sheng Kee and have had way more hits than misses. It’s a great place to come for a pastry haul that’s not 85C or Paris Baguette. The pineapple mooncake, pineapple cake, and plain pineapple bun are all excellent. There is a minimum required spend of at least $10 to pay with credit card, but it’s so easy to reach the threshold, as you probably won’t want to stop at just a couple pastries.
I like Sheng Kee's bakeries, especially the egg custard tarts as well as pork sung bread. Also I bought birthday cakes to celebrate my friends' birthday. I am a frequent shopper also introduce to friends. I usually told people to meet me at Sheng Kee Bakery.
Popular bakery teeming with Asian families enjoying their personal favorites on a sunny Saturday late morning. Good selection pastries with specialty teas and other beverages to wash them down. Decorated cakes are very pleasing to the eyes but I haven't tried them yet.
Varieties of baked goods to choose from. While most of their products are worth trying, I would pass their cakes. Recently got one of their Tiramisu cake for Birthday and it definitely wasn’t the freshest one. Overall, they have varieties of goodies to offer.
Sheng Kee Bakery is a chain that has the most delicious Asian pastries and cakes around. Their sweet cakes are just sweet enough, though not sugary-tasting. They are usually topped and decorated with fruits too. I usually go here for their savory pastries, including BBQ pork buns. They have other really good flavors, like shredded pork and green onion or ham and egg buns. Just grab a tray, a layer of wax paper, and some tongs, and load up your tray with whatever goodies you want!
Sheng Kee Bakery is a no-frills, classic Chinese bakery in the Sunset neighborhood. It’s perfect for a quick, affordable grab-and-go bite. I picked up the ham and egg bun, which reminded me of simple sandwich and ended up being my favorite. I also always look for a Swiss roll at Chinese bakeries and tried the mocha sponge roll here, which was just alright. I preferred the savory ham and egg bun overall.
Interesting pastries if not very fresh. They only have normal drip coffee. No espresso.
I like the puddle a lots but not a fan of some of the bread. The puddle itself was really soft and I definitely can taste the egg inside. The owner was very nice and it’s hard to find a bakery on the street that’s not cash only. Will come back again give a try if we are in the area. Recommend to give a try at least
Loved the swiss roll I got from here. It's so yummy. Also, tried the sponge cake here which was less sweet and perfect. Didn't like the service from counter lady who kept asking "anything else?" after every 2 seconds while I was ordering . There was nobody behind me, and I probably took 4-5 seconds to decide my order, so not sure what was the hurry since they weren't closing either.
Sheng Kee has a very impressive variety of offerings. In the not-so-big store, there are several racks of (Asian style) breads, buns, and pastries, then there are cookies, small cakes, and sweet drinks. Behind the service counter, some more delicate cakes and desserts. I’ve only tried a few items so far and they are pretty good. Their breads are on point and prices are very fair. However, I have to say that their service is a bit cold and borderline rude. Also, credit cards only accepted for $10+ purchase.
They have an amazing selection of cakes, pastries, and buns. Their Swiss rolls are the best! I always get the honey lemon and orange ones.

Sheng Kee is a great place to get a quick and easy last minute cake order done right! My friend and I called in on Tuesday to place an order for three birthday cakes to be picked up on Friday. The pick-up process was fuss-free with a quick inspection of the cakes and white chocolate message plaques. We got the 8" tiramisu, pig cake, and bear cake. All cake layers were light and airy and the cream wasn't too thick or too sweet. The animal cakes had a lot of cream to help create that dome shape. Overall, I would definitely return to Sheng Kee for a cake order! It's well worth the price. Unfortunately, we got straight to eating the cake and didn't capture any good pictures.

Not bad pastry, ok prices only bad thing is they do not want to give any napkins with your food. They hide it behind the counter.
Although the service of this place wasn't top-notch, considering how the lady practically threw my change at me, the fruit cake I bought was really good. Fresh toppings and soft, moist white cake. I would come here again for pastries an other baked goods.
I went there for the Taiwanese bread 🍞 and some other buns and tarts.
Soft bread, pizza was little cold and boba drink was water. But it's Sheng kee so it's quick, and they make money from volume. Good location for a bite and quick sit down.
Food was okay. Lots of variety but the custard tart that I purchased was not as warm/hot as I had hoped. But the price was fairly cheap.
The bakery is a very nice place but this green tea red bean bun looks good to me.
The baked goods are not bad, but the cakes are terrible, stale and cheap tasting. We had the mango mousse and green tea mousse cakes--both were terrible and artificial flavor tasting. The sesame ball and pineapple taro bun were ok.
This is expensive compared to all other Asian Bakeries but compared to other restaurants and cafes around it, it is amazingly cheap. BBQ pork bun and pineapple bun is beyond good! It makes for a cheap quick, portable lunch.
The pineapple bun, while slightly bigger than others, is way too expensive at $1.95. Other places, like Pineapple King ($1.25), and Wheat Field Bakery ($1.05), charge significantly less, and taste as good, if not better. I prefer the HK style pineapple bun over the regular, as the texture and taste of the crust is better. *Prices are as of October 2021.
There is a good variety of items here, more cakes and savory items than other bakeries. It's fairly priced. There's not really any service here since it's get it yourself and pay. Most stuff looked dry and not to my liking, just kinda plain. But I selected the green tea muffin, which is just a fluffy cake in the shape of a fat muffin. And a lotus cookie, which is alright.
You get what you want or need. Food is solid and predictable, like any chain place that you like their pastries and warm items. The service does not existence and not the friendliest for sure. Note: You have to spend $5 minimum to be able to use a credit card.
It was the neighbourhood bakery, so I came here every morning during my trip to SF. I tried their tea eggs (such a good breakfast item for a low price) and multigrain bun (sooo soft and pillowy)! I also had their hk milk tea which was hot and comforting. Great place to check out with quite a bit of selection

Impolite! No respect. Bakery not so good. Price is good. Is it fresh? Skip this shop next time walk by.
Very bad service, Cashier not friendly and she was yell at me. Even I really like their bakery but I won't buy it again
July 4, I decided to give them a try since we were in the area and wanted Pineapple King bakery in the first place. My brother and I were really excited and got 3 items which came to a total of around $7. I handed the cashier a $20 and happily received the change back from her but as I was heading out, I realized she had only given me $2 in change and not $12. I went back and asked for more change but she said in broken English something about how I gave them a 10 but they'll check for me when they close and call. Great maybe they'll catch it. They called and adamantly insisted that they were correct. Not only did my brother see I handed them a 20, but I did not have any 10s on me because I had gone to the atm before for cash and only had 20s. I'm very disappointed that this had to happen during my first time at this location but since they took 10 and didn't admit it, they lost a customer. Be careful at this location and make sure you say the amount you are handing them. I'm giving them a 2 star because I'm going to eat their bread.
Used to love this place. There is a wide selection of pastries here. However, service & food quality have gone down significantly over the years. Maybe because the majority of customers are Chinese, the front counter staff barely speaks English. Customers here seem to be more rude too, as they would cut in front of you. Tables usually have crumbs on them...not a pleasant place to eat at. Worst of all, a friend bought me a few slices of mousse cakes from here, and there were mildew on there--yuck!! Almost started eating them had I not looked at them carefully. My friend ended up returning the cakes for a refund.
Came back here for a second time after trying the taro bun the first time but everything tasted so average and bland. Yes, the goodies look really aesthetic and romantic but don't let that fool you, tastes substanceless. In the 2nd photo of the mini cakes, which costed a startling $2.85 for a two inch slice, that's just overkill. We also got a cream bun but cream was too sweet and airy, the bun was slightly too tough. Not coming back again but it's a bakery for anyone in a rush or starving...

It is bad because even though I have write notes when I order the cake, but he said I didn’t write anything for the notes. And also, when I write some Chinese words for the notes when I order the cake. When I pick up the cake, they told me that the word are too small, so they can’t write it. It is important for us, but they said it was too small so they don’t write it. So It was pretty bad.
Service really bad, cashiers never smile or greet customers, instead act nothing like even care about the business. Check out their cakes in the showcase, they actually speak for themselves of the freshness!! Clearly need some management improvements!
On 5/5 around 1:15pm. Female cashier didn’t wear face mask , didn’t wear gloves to put egg tarts inside the plastic bags and didn’t seal the bag. They let so many customers inside the store. Some customers didn’t wear any mask too. The workers didn’t say anything.
They were selling new pastries for 3 for $4.99, I chose a couple of different ones and mix and matched. I tried to pay and the cashier told me I couldn't do that. When I asked why I was rudely told "I don't have the time to explain it to you." I am never coming back. The whole conversation happened in Chinese. The male cashier acted very different to another English speaking costumer.
The bakery manager on irving street is rude to the customers. I had bad experience on Saturday 2/3/24. I bought a big load of white bread. After paid, I was holding the top part of the plastic bag. When I walked out one minutes approaching my car, the bag broke by itself and half load of the bread was fallen on the pedestrian road as the bag was fallen apart. I then went back to the bakery and told the cashier. The guy said since I walked out the bakery and they not responsible for replacing. I showed him the receipt and he insisted not helping. I then requested to talk to the manager. He then claimed himself to be the manager. I was curious that he’s a manager and treated the customer like this. . I’m not happy to how I was treated and he didn’t set a good example to other employees and showed his rude manner to other Customers. I’ll not go back there again as I usually will go two time or three times a week.
Horrible customer service on two occasions. I was out of town for my birthday and came to this bakery on March 31st 2 minutes before closing to pickup the cake. The young male told me the computer system was down and he couldn’t help me. I came in early morning , 7:05 am 4/1 to pickup cake and an older woman told me she needs to verify with her manager if the cake has already been picked up or not. I showed her the receipts my mom provided me through psf on my phone and still no help. At this point I’m not sure if I will ever get the cake so I told me mom to request a refund. I absolutely do not recommend ordering birthday cakes from this company and will update this review to confirm if my mother received a refund or not from this poorly ran business.
One star for only taking credit cards above $10. They could at least put a surcharge for smaller purchases when most of their items are under $2.99. When you have fiat money, the coconut bun is a standout.
I got a birthday cake for my sister from here. I’d purposely asked the man at the counter if they had any fresh strawberry cakes in the back. He brought one out and I paid for it. We opened it that night and oof. The strawberries were moldy. This establishment charged me over $40 for this cake and gave me moldy strawberries. The quality control at this business is a little questionable. This has NEVER happened at Sunset Bakery.
boyfriend bought some cake and it was mold, brought it back for a refund, was told it was just "moisture exposure" by derrick which is what mold is literally caused by🤨 the other tiramisu cakes in the case looked the same as the two nasty ones we got but he brushed that off as well, went back later and they were still in case,we used to get this exact cake every week so i knew instantly it was off, look at the pictures judge for yourself, the white mold spores are underneath the chocolate layer and no they never put powdered sugar on these cakes, im not the first person to get moldy baked goods here and unfortunately probably not the last
