This place is such a gem in SF. Amazing staff 💕, the place was nice and the ice cream was DELICIOSO! We tried vegan and regular ice cream options and both tasted amazing. My hubby tried coffee and it was good as well. A place to go back or if you haven’t try it a MUST! 🤩
Absolutely charming! Worth the wait. Perfect sized servings and so delicious!!
Travelling past this place one day on our way exploring sanfrancisco and what a find. A true step back 100 years to soda made the original way. Iceeam Sundays, warm apple pie, phosphate sodas and service that can't be beat. I'm now looking for my own supply of acid phosphate to make these delicious sodas back home in Australia.
This place is great. You’ll wait a few minutes but the ice cream is very nice. What surprised us was how good the cone was - usually I just take the cone for granted, but not here. They told us most of the things made here, including their root beer syrup and cones, are made here!
My concept of a Michelin Star esablisment and a Michelin Star dish is this place and the Love It or Hate It. I'm about 99% sure the vintage decor and interior are recreations, but they've done an amazing job capturing a real feeling of authenticity for a nearly extinct American icon. And the Love It or Hate It is definitely something worthy of love, especially from anyone that's big on root beer, black liccorice, or tarragon soda if you've ever had it. Excellent place, I'd go every night and gain 200 pounds if I lived in SF.
Amazing flavors and service! Went last night and had such a great experience I had to come back before I left today. The apple pie with carmalized honey ice cream was the best, and also enjoyed the warm brownie sundae. My wife got the Earl Grey yesterday and today got the affogato, we will definitely be coming back on our next trip!
They have good quality ice cream with a rotating selection of interesting flavors. Decoration inside is retro and very cute. Service is pretty good, although lines can build up a bit here. The snickerdoodle cookie I got for the sandwich wasn’t great though. Too hard to eat and just caused ice cream to smush out when biting on the sandwich. I was expecting a softer, much more cake-like cookie, and while I think it’s possible the cookie was over-baked, I still think the baseline recipe needs to be adjusted to softer. Their waffle cone is more crumbly and similar to shortbread than most waffle cones I’ve had. I don’t have a preference between the 2 styles, but it’s noteworthy. I always get a waffle cone because that’s part of the experience, but the ice cream is definitely the star.
This is place is sooo good I don’t know how to explain the feeling. First of all, its aesthetics remind me of my hometown cafe. And then the food, the ice creams, hot drinks are literally perfect. This place has spoiled me…lol. And I live pretty close by which is another thing that makes it hard to resist going here. PS - my favourite is vanilla ice cream with brownie.
Considering I do not have a sweet tooth at all, it should be noted that it's pretty impressive for me to give this place 5 stars, but they've earned it! The place has an old-school diner-style atmosphere which feels very 50's -- even the staff wear those pseudo-military style hats that make you think they're about to break into song. The staff are lovely and very capable at turning a simple milkshake into an extraordinary cocktail. If you're looking for vintage SF, tasty ice cream or inventive cocktails, or just a fun experience, this place will fit the bill!
This is a fantastic ice cream shop that delivers both a wonderful experience and excellent ice cream. The retro atmosphere and high-quality, though not overly exotic, ice cream give it an elevated feel. The staff is friendly, helpful, and clearly takes pride in their work. You'll also appreciate their extensive selection of house-made products, from the ice cream itself to toppings and unique soda blends. Conveniently, they also offer water and a restroom. The main drawback is that street parking can be challenging to find.
Very cute retro vibes with high top chairs and an old timy counter with a bar in the back. Also serving alcoholic shakes.. what's not to love? They have cake by the slice, fresh cookies, and to-go popsicles/vegan ice cream bars in the display case. We got a hot fudge sundae and settled on coffee and peanut butter cookie for the two scoops. Generous portions and a looooot of chocolate. I'll have to come back and try it their hot drinks, shakes and affogato.
Took my 11 year old here and he absolutely demolished a waffle cone - I had a delicious slice of pie a la mode - service was excellent and friendly, great staff! The shop is styled like a classic diner, very fun. Prices are totally reasonable. Don’t skip in the fall / winter time, they have hot chocolates and boozy coffees on the go!
The place looks like an old school ice cream shop, from the decoration to the uniforms, pretty fun and well done. The ice creams are really good and they have some nice unique flavors. They offer soda or floats that I haven't tried. If you are looking for an ice cream the place is way better than the chains that you will found around. Update, we really love these place, from the atmosphere to the quality of the ice creams I really recommend stopping there!
I recently visited Ice Cream Bar and was blown away by the cool, vintage ambiance of the place. The decor is very unique and adds to the overall experience. The indoor seating is ample and comfortable, making it a great place to hang out with friends. The staff at Ice Cream Bar is also very kind and welcoming, making you feel right at home. I ordered the Brownie with Ice Cream and opted for the Creme Fraiche and Butterscotch flavors. While the brownie may have been dry, the ice cream was absolutely delicious! Both flavors were rich and creamy, and definitely worth trying. Overall, Ice Cream Bar is a great place to visit for its vintage and cool ambiance, ample indoor seating, friendly staff, and delicious ice cream.
Great ice cream spot with strong old-school diner vibes 🍨. I ordered the coconut milk dark chocolate almond and also sampled the blood orange passionfruit sorbet—both were solid, especially the sorbet. My friends went for the hot fudge sundae and really enjoyed it. Overall, I’d give it a 6.5/10: good flavors, fun atmosphere, but not mind-blowing. I’d definitely come back for a casual treat, especially with my boyfriend.
Love the vibes, decor, and overall atmosphere! The staff were very kind and easy to talk to. I can't say anything about the actual ice cream (didn’t get any), the butterscotch drink is way too sweet. And that's coming from someone with a sweet tooth.
Nice decor that makes you feel like you're having ice cream in the 1960s. However, the ice cream itself is nothing special, too sweet, and the flavors could be improved. For example, the macadamia nut ice cream had only one small piece of macadamia. It would be much tastier with more nuts.
The line moves slower than Mitchell’s even with less people waiting. Kinda ridiculous. Hire more servers or something. Update after trying the ice cream: it’s so bland compared to Mitchell’s and Swensen’s. Plus, they charge more and serve you less. The ice cream is more sugar than it is FLAVOR. Leaves a mild, unpleasant aftertaste. I tried butterscotch, honey, crème fraiche, salted caramel, and milk chocolate. Only the chocolate was tolerable, but again, more sugary than it was chocolatey and started to taste gross after a few bites. Terrible. I don’t know how people recommend this place. They don’t know what they’re missing.
