Our favorite Indian restaurant in SF. Consistently delicious whether we order takeout or dine in. Rich and dynamic flavors with spice level adjusted to your preference. Medium spice starts packing a punch. Friendly and quick service. Their mango lassi is thick, sweet, & tangy - difficult to put down!
Fantastic food! Would highly recommend the Butter Chicken and the Biryani!
Good butter chicken and fluffy garlic naan. Plus the chaat is nice. Recommend.
I have to say this is one of the best places in San Francisco. If you never tried Indian cuisine, my advice is to try it. I will tell it’s unbelievable unforgettable and memorable so cheers and enjoy. And the chief Tilak is a magician!
Oooooooh! This is a small cozy dining place with good service and amazing food. If you want to take your palate on an adventure ride with flavorful and delicious food; you should try this place. You'll definitely have multiple foodgasms!!! Their starters are a must try and they are relatively inexpensive. Enjoy your experience!
Our favorite Indian place in our neighborhood and all of SF probably. We order and dine in here regularly. Absolutely love the chicken chettinad, chicken tikka masala, and puri chaat! Get the bread basket!
Love this place. Amazing food flavors even when you get things mild (I prefer ordering it in the true original spicy way but when you have people who can only handle mild you don't lose on the taste)! One of the best vindaloos I've had in a long time!! We definitely will become regulars!!
The best Indian restaurant I have been to in San Francisco. The dahi puri here is a must try. Also, the tandoori chicken and chole batura are delicious. I have been there a couple of times now and have tried a few dishes and none of them dissappointed me. If you really want to eat good Indian food, make sure to go to Tilak.
Absolutely a must try! Simple atmosphere, yet once seated treated royally with excellent care. Food delivery took a little longer than usual, which means our order was prepared and the presentation was delightful. We ate every bite! Will come back for more!
This is our neighborhood Indian restaurant! It does not disappoint. We’ve been a few times now and loved everything on the menu, including the butter, chicken, tika masala, and biryani.
How did I not know about this place before? Totally understated but such a gem. Great menu and relaxed atmosphere. $50 bill for dinner for two (20% tips, beer, and rose water based mango lassi included!) Good design menu, you know that’s important too, right? 🤓 Small, fast, affordable, pleasant.
Came here on a Friday evening around 6 pm and was seated right away. We were promptly greeted and seated and asked whether we wanted ice in our water. We ordered the following: Aloo Tikka Chaat Bites, Gobi Mussalam, Chicken Tikka Masala, along with Lemon Rice, Bhature, and Garlic Naan. The stand outs for me were the Bhature - best to eat while still hot. It was so airy and delicious. I used it like a pocket to eat with the items we ordered. Their chicken tikka masala was very creamy and flavorful but not too salty. You can pick from four levels of spiciness. We picked level 2 which was not spicy at all for me. But I can handle some spice. I don’t think I would order the lemon rice again. The naan had the perfect amount of garlic. Next time I will just stick to the naan and Bhature. We had plenty of leftovers as there were only two people in our party. Parking wasn’t too bad because we came on the earlier side. There was a steady flow of patrons and some purchasing take out but it never got crowded. Staff were all wearing masks. Would definitely revisit this neighborhood restaurant.

Love this place. Have been coming here since they opened. The food is very flavorful and excellent overall. I feel the flavors are much more varied than a lot of Indian restaurants, which I think often equate spiciness with flavor. Some of my fav examples of tilaks approach are the Dahl puri chaat, masala lamb racks and butter chicken Good stuff.
A friend of mine who moved to Santa Rosa said that when she’s back in SF the first place she goes is Tilak’s. And I can see why. Super tasty food, good service and price. Not a flashy place just real good food and vibes.
My husband and I ate at this restaurant, and the food was amazingly delicious!! We know it used to be a different but still an Indian restaurant, but the quality of the food is an another level. We will definitely come again. Highly recommended.
Been eating here basically since it opened. Used to be another Indian place that I frequented but when Tilak took over, the food took a leap up. It's still one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Easily. Everything is so good and flavorful... from basics like dahl and butter chicken to more unusual dishes like masala lamb racks and goan prawns. If something on the menu looks a bit unusual, that you don't recognize from other Indian places, I recommend going for it. Tilak himself and the rest of the staff are friendly and awesome, but the food... Just great stuff all the way down the menu. So, yeah, easily my favorite Indian place in SF and the place we've been doing our company holiday dinner for the last five or six years.

This place will soon turn into a template for the glorious days of 'the old' guard of Indian restaurants in the bay. In an unassuming interior painted bright with turmeric yellow you will find conventional north Indian food that you may soon long for, given the rapid evolution of the Indian food scene in the country. I got the dahi papdi chaat and it needn't have come with the edible flowers. The chaat was good, though the tamarind date chutney could be better. I also ordered the saag channa and bature. The saag was delicious and creamy and the bature were not giant balls of dough, but a pair of oval shaped bread. They had been well leavened and were stretchy and paired great with the channa. Overall I'd come here for comfort food on a cool night seeking warm home fare.

Definitely not authentic Indian food at all, I kind of figured that when I walked in and saw a Chinese woman in the front and a man in the back. I eat Indian food a few times a week and I didn’t like this food at all. The briyani had no flavor, I didn’t like the taste of the daal or the Chana masala. The naan was not freshly made but pre made and wrapped in aluminum foil to stay warm, the food was very disappointing. I’m visiting here and I notice the Indian restaurants are not authentic which is sad because that’s what they are advertising. Sorry to say I don’t recommend the food here
Failed food inspection and follow up. Rat poop everywhere. I loved this restaurant, but this food safety report was a flagrant violation of our trust as consumers.

It’s quite affordable and server did a good job that I can definitely reflect. The food itself is stale. Doesn’t have the greatest flavor at all. The big problem is that both of me and my friend had diarrhea right after this dinner We got super sick I am not sure if they’re using holding ingredients or they are just not sanitized But it’s a very serious concern
