A good friend came to town and I was looking for a good place to take him for dinner. We walked in, although I would recommend getting a reservation if you know what time you are going to go. I had seen Porterhouse on a local PBS show and was wanting to try. Boy, they did not disappoint! I started with an Old Fashion which the bartender did a great job on. We opened with the carpaccio which was a flavor sensation! I enjoyed the mushroom soup while my friend enjoyed the Romaine Hearts. Both of us had the dry aged porterhouse steaks. What else are you going to have at a restaurant called Porterhouse? I ordered mine cooked medium and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Dry aging the beef really does intensify the flavor. For dessert we shared the Bananas Foster which they prepare at table side. First you get quite a show as it is prepared and then you get an amazing dessert! Almost more important than the food, the service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door. I cannot wait to go back and try more of the menu!
I was looking for a good steak restaurant and found several options on Google. While there may be other well-known choices, I chose this restaurant because it specializes in porterhouse steak. The porterhouse is dry-aged for 28 days and comes from grain-fed Nebraska beef. I ordered the 20oz dry-aged porterhouse cooked medium. The steak was tender and flavorful, with a rich taste that really stood out after the 28-day dry-aging process. I usually cut off the fat, but the fat near the bone was especially delicious and worth eating. By the end of the meal, I finished everything and was very satisfied with both the quality and flavor of the porterhouse.
Family Dinner just at end of the year. Most of us had the Caesar salad, two had the French onion soup, a few had the Cowboy Ribeye, with a twice baked potato and sautéed vegetables and one had the Seafood Linguine. Desserts were the Bananas flambe and the Grande Marnier Souffle (which was good but not as good as the bananas flambe) Really good meals, pretty quiet in restaurant and very limited parking on a busy holiday week night.
I’ve been here many times and have always had a great experience. The dry-aged steak is consistently delicious and never disappoints. This time, however, the appetizers and side dishes were a bit underwhelming. The beef tartare was a little dry because of all the other components, and the truffle oil overpowered the other flavors :( The chilled prawns were just okay, and the sautéed mushrooms were on the sweeter, saucier side—not really to my taste. On a brighter note, the table-side Cherries Jubilee was a fun and tasty treat, and as always, the service was excellent.
I had to sit at the bar because it was busy, so it's recommended to make a reservation. The meats are incredible they basically melts in the mouths. Side dishes are very good as well. I will definitely go back
Food: filet mignon and whipped potatoes were delicious. Veggie portion could have been a bit larger Service: Julio was patient and efficient. He constantly checked on us throughout the meal Ambience: nothing particularly special. Bathrooms are a bit old and seating is a bit close in some parts of the restaurant. # of visits: 1 Would return: yes
Connected with some of my Bay Area friends on a recent trip back and we grabbed dinner at Porthouse. It was a recommendation from one of my friends that had seen a review on Check Please Bay Area (one of my favorite PBS shows when we lived there). I was not that hungry so I kept it light with a salad and French Onion soup. I have to admit that it was the best French Onion soup that I have ever had. Everyone else got steaks which they really loved. Now the best part was the dessert. We had Bananas Foster and Cherry Jubilee. The owner made it by our table and he shared stories about how he learned to make it and the history of the restaurant and stories about being a restaurant owner. I would rate the desserts as some of the best that I have had in my life. I would recommend going to the restaurant for the dessert alone. Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend.

The meat was perfect, the service is perfect. We had porterhouse steak 👌🏼🥩 Carpaccio and spring rolls 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Porterhouse is a great steakhouse that even has vegan options on the menu. Delicious salads. Great bread pudding for dessert. If you want a souffle be sure and order it early as it takes 20 minutes. Eduardo was our server and he is extraordinary at his job. We felt more like we were guests in his home. Be sure and ask for him.
I Love Porterhouse. The steaks are always well prepared and very tender. This is the best Steaks I've eaten in the Bay Area and I've been to almost all of the steakhouses.
We celebrated our 3 year anniversary here and had a fabulous time. Our server, I believe his name was Armando, was very lovely and knowledgeable. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth, and the sorbet was a light and delicious way to end the meal. Thanks for a great evening!
Best choice of cozy, elegant fine dining of my life. Food service and hospitality of owner, Bruno was nothing short of amazing. Watching him make each order of banana foster and crepes was top tier. Warm, welcoming and the prices were so accommodating for such high quality good. The cowboy was so tender juicy and full of flavor. The bread pudding was mouth watering but the personal greetings and conversation from an award winning restaurant owner with so many years of skilled experience and admiration for what he does best. I enjoyed everything and if Im ever in the area again, you will be my first stop. Such a jewel God bless my friend, Your favorite travel nurse
Amazing food & excellent service. I left so distracted & left my purse!! Luckily they were so kind to call me (based from my reservation) and I got it back. Just shows their character. I’ll definitely be back!
I had the Kansas NY strip and grilled to the medium cooked I like. Very tasty for the aged steaks. Good selections of wine by the glass. Their bottle prices are little too steep on the marked ups. My friends had porters and the Cowboy. They all liked our steaks comparing to other places. For starters we had the chicken wings and they were crunchy and tasty. I also had Brussel sprouts as my added side dish. They were good, but I prefer more crispy fried sprouts. Overall the restaurant has good ambient and service can be improved for the price (18% tips) each of us paid.

Enjoyed Porter House for my birthday. I highly recommend it. Ambience is nice. Lively but private. The service was very attentive. Most importantly the food was spectacular. The salad and appetizers were interesting and flavorful. Our main of Wellington was really good . Perfectly cooked and the sides perfectly complemented it. I only wish we'd discovered it sooner. 😁
Pretty good, but nothing special. Celebrated a couple birthdays here on a Saturday. Made a reservation weeks prior and the table as ready upon arrival. Ordered the steak tartar appetizer $19, 20 oz porterhouse $68, sides of creamed spinach $13 and mac and cheese $13. They start you off with some complimentary freshly baked bread with butter. The steak tartar was pretty good. They combine all the ingredients at the table and serve it with crispy bread/crackers. Porterhouse meat was quality and cooked perfectly. Comes with a baked potato and 3 pieces of vegetables (literally), but can't complain since most steakhouses don't include any sides. All the males were able to finish their entree, but none of the females could. Creamed spinach was good, but a bit too cheesy. Mac and cheese was average. Both sides were small and suited for about 2 people to share. They gave a complimentary scoop of sorbet to each of the birthday boy and girl Service was good. Food didn't take too long to come out. Medium sized restaurant with some private rooms for large parties. Full bar. Extensive wine bottle menu at the table. Overall, good food, reasonably priced, good service; worth a visit
4.5 Our waiter was great, he was very knowledgeable and had great recommendations! The only thing our table was not 100% satisfied on were a few sides. The brussels sprouts were a little too candied and overly sweet and the cream of corn wasn’t the best. The steaks however and the sides that came with them were all absolutely amazing! Our favorite side was the Mac and Cheese for sure. Highly recommend for a nice date night, business dinner or celebration.
Classic American steakhouse experience in bustling downtown San Mateo. This new location is significantly larger than the last location, but the food is still of high quality. The 70-day dry-aged NY strip was amazing, but the sides and the desserts were just average. The Banana Foster cooking show was entertaining. Parking can be challenging, especially on the weekends.
4 guys hanging out on a Wednesday night. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and only shared one tomahawk steaks and chicken, with 4 bottles of wines. My favorite would be the escargot and tomato salad. The pork belly is mostly fat, and the oyster is not meaty enough. However the Tomahawk steak was done to perfection, medium rare as we ordered. The markup on the wines are very reasonable so we had a bit too much to drink. The banana flambé was a great show, can’t miss. Had a great time.
Went with a friend for their birthday! Everything was excellent, service, ambience, and food all were excellent! My only complaint was when we went to order dessert, I wanted the banana fosters, love bananas foster.... but was told it wasn't available so that was disappointing. I ended up getting the chocolate molten cake instead, which was good but not really what i wanted. Maybe update dessert menu???

No complaints about the service and environment. But the porterhouse steak tastes bad and confusing. I ordered medium rare, the steak is not juicy at all. The meat is tender and a little bit sticky to chew. The beef flavor is faint and strange. The dryness, tenderness and flavor is a weird combination. I guess the dry age process helped the steak in a wrong way.

I was excited to try this restaurant but left genuinely frustrated. I ordered my steak medium-rare; what arrived was almost blue rare—so undercooked that parts of the center were still cool. Beyond temperature, the flavor was flat: none of the rich, nutty character you expect from properly aged beef. To make matters worse, every slice was laced with thick white sinew that made the meat tough and unpleasant to chew. At this price point I would expect a clearly stated, high-quality grade of beef, but the kitchen offered no information and the plate certainly didn’t speak for itself.
I am from out of the area and used Open Table to find a Steak House. I really wanted to like this place, but I left hungry and very disappointed. This place had so much potential and it fell short. I went to this steak house for the good reviews. The service was subpar, host was brash, overall the experience was a bust. We had the following: - Appetizers: Good - Porterhouse for Two: Disaster - NOT Good - Dessert: Ok - Bottle of Wine: As expected We were 5 minutes late for the reservation because we could not find parking, then got turnaround walking to the restaurant from the parking garage. When we arrived the host informed us that they needed the table in two hours and we would need to keep our meal short to ensure enough time for turn-around. I have never been told this by a host, but ok, two hours seems reasonable. We had appetizers and ordered a bottle of wine to start our evening. I ordered the dry aged porter house to share with my husband ($139.00). I ordered the steak medium with no black pepper. I have a black pepper allergy and the server assured me that the steak could be done without pepper. That did not happen. When the steak hit the table it was covered in black pepper. I informed the server, she took it back to the kitchen. Another steak arrived and it was severely under cooked. We could not eat it. For a dish to be so costly and come out wrong twice is not acceptable. I did not attempt a third steak. We ordered a dessert and coffee to try and salvage the meal. But to now avail. At two hours on the dot, the host popped up at the table with the bill. So much for a relaxing evening.
