Love this spot. Outdoor seating (for now), pool tables, jukebox, and strong stiff drinks. The best kind of dive bar.
Good classic dive. Dim, lots of regulars (bartender acted as a message taker/forwarder), 3 pool tables. Great spot
A great place to stumble into on your way home from drinking all night. Great pool tables and customers.
If you enjoy very loud, extremely smokey establishments. I had a blast. Three pool tables, more than enough adequate space to play an uninterrupted game but I was there on a Saturday night. There was a plethora of good looking, young, scantily clad females that happened to be very intoxicated and extremely friendly. Only downside to this was that around 20/25 of the aforementioned intoxicated females just hung out in between the three tables. Tough to get your second third and fourth shots to go where you want them too with all the eye candy a foot. I will definitely be a repeat offender here. ....
Astis is a great place to shoot pool. They have three tables so your chances of getting to play are good. The staff was nice and so are the patrons, even though they did play some really cheesy 80s music, lol.
Quintessential Dive bar, I love them and this is one of the best in the bay. All the bartender's look out for you, and will leap over the bar and protect you if need be (Al). Great place with the cheapest prices in town.
Excellent place to go relax, have a drink and socialize. Ran by a friendly and talented couple of local friends. Highly recommend the asti for good music, pool tables and good stiff drinks.
loved this place. stopped in for one on the way back to our hotel, and ended up staying for a couple more :) al the bartender was fabulous, and the patrons we sat and talked with, locals and not, were all fantastic. good drinks, fair prices, and super fun atmosphere. will definitely stop in next time we're here.
I've often recieved free drinks from the other patrons or the bartender. Plus there's always people to play pool with. Overall a fantastic venue.
Fun goofy af bartenders. Enjoyed the party vibe but not so much the old, dated rap music blasting away like it's the 90s. Look around, you're a white community Santa Cruz, you're not Detroit. Heard of EDM or rock? Or even better indie rap. Heard of Tech N9ne? In fact I'd rather listen to the island boys than Gen X rap
We came here for a drink late Thursday afternoon. We sat at the bar and was served straight away. Nice atmosphere and a clean place. There are TVs showing sports. We enjoyed our visit.
My go to bar.. total positivity.. love the vibes.. I'll always encounter someone i know
Just what I was looking for. Asked a local for a dive bar with strange people. And this was the place. Didn't see food, but the atmosphere was 100% bar. Looking for a hole in the wall, this was the place. Seats at the bar, along with some booths and even 3 pool tables around the corner, I think. Didn't get a good look.
Tired on the noise from kids having fun on the board walk then walk about 5 blocks from the main strip to have a cold relaxing sip with some people that are a trip but cool as hell, in this great dive bar with friendly folk.
If you love dive bars go here! It has good, cheap drinks, two pool tables, and you'll have fun people watching, kind of like the Star Wars bar scene.
We just shot a free game of pool or two... in the middle of the day. It was great, nice and quiet.
This place has everything a dive bar should. Cheap drinks, dark ambiance, good music, pool tables, and a very interesting crowd. Possibly my favorite bar in Santa Cruz, but that's because I'm a sucker for dive bars. The unofficial 'Nasty Asti' name just adds to this place for me. This is a bar where you can meet very interesting people. I've met cool car guys, chill surfers, and traded stories with a 70+ year old guys who have lived in Santa Cruz for decades. The bartenders are also fit perfectly for this place. I highly recommend checking this place out!
We went in for a daytime drink while in town. Yes, it's a locals dive bar and clearly lots of regulars, but we were warmly welcomed by them all and were chatting away after a few drinks. As with most places, you don't have to be a regular to fit in, you just have to be a nice person. We will come by next time we're in SC!
It says Cafe, but no snacks so far, just chips and $1 pool tables. Maybe they're just short staffed, idk. But you'd love their enthusiasm and competency. Although it's just a local dive bar they're definitely knowledgeable and professional...in multiple levels. Would definitely recommend for drinks, just hanging out, and/or playing pool. Especially because of their assertiveness and service. I definitely feel safe and comfortable playing pool and drinking here. Their music booth is nice and loud too. Also, they're not overpriced like most bars around the area. Check it out and give it a review yourself. With the right intentions I'll bet you'll have fun here.
It was pretty good there was some dude bro trying to handshake hug me every 5 min other then that the awesome bald bartender that was a little feminine was very friendly apparently he had been trying to grow a beard for 6 months honestly my mom has a thicker beard but you gotta love him for trying. And that bathroom is like a breath of fresh air .
This bar is a must visit, when I'm in Santa Cruz. Their bartender rock, their pitcher prices are beyond fair, and the pool tables have some good players to challenge yourself. Note: you can smoke inside, just an FYI. This is great for some and terrible for others. I'm looking forward to my next visit and I'll bring my quarters for pool!
One of the cheapest bars around, you definitely get more than what you pay for. Asti has a few TVs to watch sports. Their bartenders are really nice and the crowd is pretty interesting, a good place to people watch. If you're trying to go out on a weekend with your friends, it's always good to stop here at some point.
Great place to have a drink and have fun. Super friendly bartender and great service. Highly recommend.
Great place to have drinks and play pool. Has a jukebox and friendly bartenders. Can be difficult to find parking on the weekends.

Great drunk values and very friendly service! Atmosphere, dive bar but clean.
It's a nice little local dive bar, good drinks, and three pool tables in the back.
The infamous Nasti Asti. A santa cruz dive bar treasure. Juke box and pool playing options. Small and cozy, nothing fancy dress casual enjoy!!!
Tonight, big Al was on staff. Delightful young man. Good bartender. Takes care of business. Air was clean, bathrooms were clean. Crowd was great. Thursday before 9! Great bar.
Great inexpensive dive bar but be wary. Some of the patrons are kinda sketchy. "Chris" tried to sell my friend extacy and she ended up getting way drunk off of very little and passed out at a my house. Today we feel like she was drugged. Seems like this guy preys on single girls and hands out extacy for free then just stalks them. Im going to let the bartenders know. I love the place but now we will be much more aware and never go there alone.
Good stop to hang out n have couple drinks.. min card purchase is $10 just fyi

Bartender completely ignored us for 30 min. Helped others that came after. (Rated 1 star) Update: we came back with friends who frequent and it was a much better experience. I think the bartender was going through it that other night. Very chill dive bar, lots of seating with 3 pool tables (coin machine if you have cash). Fresh beers and has a jukebox that can be used over an app. Bathrooms aren’t too bad either, there is a female bathroom which was nice because the guys one looked a little rough.
Great local dive bar. Unique bartenders. Pool, internet jukebox wide range of clientele - still the same at least for me - I've been a patron since Oct 2003 - always working & seldom broke even though I was homeless for the first 10 yrs - I've experienced a ton of emotions in there day & night shift both (I'm 70 & luckily I've always been treated with respect even though I'm that old long hair that plays Van Halen & Primus) family if you allow yourself to join - Enjoy, Peace, Love & EVH!

Drinks are cheap but lots of alcohol so not great flavor. Pool tables are great but on busy nights they're always full
When we arrived the bar was empty and the bartender did not really care at all. Very cold and distant. Once the bar filled up with regulars, we could really tell how differently they treat regulars vs new customers. Not very friendly. Cool for the locals, not a nice experience for guests.
Service was amazing. Sadly it was very quiet when I was here. It would be nice if they let the bartender keep an atmosphere when the music is not being played. It was dead silent for a couple hours.

If your not a regular or local be prepared to stand up for yourself and get unequal service. Atmosphere was nice, but the bartender was pretty rude. Bartender became a huge baby and had to shut off the music and publicly announce that I did not tip on a round that I just purchased. To be clear I don't leave tips on my card, I will use cash. Secondly at a bar I tend to be at for a while I'll tip in cash at the end of my night. He did NOT get a tip. Probably won't be going back

Terrible service, the bartender ignored us a lot and at the entrance did not accept foreign identity documents. the truth is not a comfortable place to drink something and relax.
Worst bar in Santa Cruz creepy bald bartender makes girls feel uncomfortable they erase all the real reviews bartenders are rude and use profanity they don’t want anyone interfering with there coke deals
Strong drinks and poor service. Great if you go with friends, even better if they're friends with the bartender. Didn't get carded here - prolly good news for the under 21 crowd in Santa cruz
One of the male bald bartenders is rude and only asked me to wear a mask when he seen me wearing one when i walked in and took it of to order my drink. when this other couple didnt have any mask on and he had an attitude with me and rolled his eye when handed him my id this place is very negative
Bartender was careless with making drinks. He splashed Jameson into my girl's eye. Rudely he informed us that a bar is like SeaWorld where we would get splashed. No customer service, no apology or even an offer to cover a drink for damage. WORST bartender ever!
Went to go to the asti with a couple of my friends. I am a senior attending UCSC and have been to this bar a handful of times, never had issues. But on this occasion the bouncer at the door 'decided' my ID was fake due to me being from New Jersey. He then proceeded to 'test' me and asked what the capital of New Jersey was, which I answered correctly. Apparently that wasn't enough, and he asked what two football teams play in NJ. I don't watch football, and I told him that the only team I knew was the Jets. But he was so convinced of my ID being fake that he had already made up his mind. I asked him to scan my ID and look it up but apparently the only check you get is the bouncer's sports questions.
This place's nickname is The Nasty, which should tell you everything you need to know about the place. The floor is sticky, the room smells horrible, and the drinks are not great. The truly desperate come here. If you want to mingle with them, maybe you belong here too.
I was recommended this bar by a local bartender and decided to check it out. My first visit was on a Monday night with a friend—we played pool and had a few drinks. Besides getting a nasty gash on my hand from a broken pool cue, the experience was just okay. The bathrooms definitely need some attention. A week later, I came back on a Saturday night with a few friends, expecting a better experience, only to be completely disrespected by the same bartender from my first visit—the tattooed lady behind the bar. The first night, she was fine. But the second time around, my experience with her was completely different. She seemed faded and possibly on something stronger than just alcohol. She was drinking heavily and smoking while on shift, and her attitude was unprofessional and disrespectful. What made it even weirder was that she was totally getting along with my friends, but for some reason, had it out for me when I had barely even spoken to her besides ordering my drink and asking for a bandage. I came in as a paying customer, tipping well and being respectful, but apparently, that didn’t matter. I won’t be spending my money at a place where customers are treated poorly by staff. If you want a bar that values its patrons, look elsewhere. Do better.
Used to be the best bar in down but has gone down hill
Little bouncer smoking outside denied me from the bar before we could even get in… with my real ID. Has never happened to me before, and the bouncer was on a very clear power trip. Repeated all my info back, wouldn’t take other forms of identification I had on me either. I didn’t want to be there after his attitude anyway and went somewhere else after with no problem, but really buzzkilled my night. Saw him let in some kid with braces after flirting with him- but I guess thats another story. Can’t speak for the rest of the bar.
Bartender with the beard was rude. My group ordered lemondrops, with mostly our partners ordering them for us girls. Bartender shouted to the entire bar “lemondrops are for assholes”. I usually come to the Asti as my final stop for the night but won’t come back after that.
Terrible experience. The bartender (bald guy) was super rude to us for no reason. I came to ask for a cup of water, and he asked for my ID (which makes sense). I showed him my ID, and he refused to serve us. Didn’t want to explain, I guess because my ID is a foreign ID from a country he didn’t like. Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend anyone who’s not local to come here. Very unpleasant experience
they don’t ID so go if you need a fun night lol, went for my birthday weekend and got kicked out, but hey good drinks i will give them that. pricey when my drink is just ice and one sip of liquor lol. they do take a bit to attend they walk right past you.
