This place is a total gem! Friends are all about the wrap and burger, I’ve enjoyed the salmon too - well worth the price even if it’s not one of those crazy deals. The vibe is right, here. Love Main Street Santa Monica and this place delivers.

Stopped in for a quick bite on weekend night and was seated in reasonable amount of time. Had a small dog with us and the restaurant provided a doggy menu and treat for our pup. Ate appetizers and had a beer. Food was delicious and enjoyed the covered patio for the winter months. Service was spot on.

C
Charles Zoltak

We went at Happy Hour. Excellent onion rings. A shawarma. Both reasonably price. Wine and cocktails. Decor - standard sports bar chic.

N
Narek Dshkhunyan

Roasted potatoes were delicious. Ashland Hill blonde is one hell of a beer.

L

Came here for happy hour, and had the chicken shawarma and the falafel Shawarma! Both were very tasty and a lot of food. The bartender was overly helpful and friendly. Quick service, and very affordable!

T

I ordered the $5 burger and hit the beach. It was amazing and really hit the spot so I ordered a couple more for the hubby for dinner lol! He was SO HAPPY! We will definitely be back to try a other items on the menu. This gem was a happy accident!

I went here for brunch to start my 21st birthday! You cant go wrong with a classic mimosa and their sweet & delicious French toast with friends. :) The second time I went here I was a little more strict and had something less sweet and more savory, of course with a mimosa! The outdoor seating has such a great morning vibe too. :)

Loved this place. Friendly, very attentive staff and the food is great. Outdoor seating that allows for your pet to go with you if you're out for a stroll on Main Street or doing some shopping. Noticed staff immeiately fills a bowl of water for Fido - what a great touch! This place is great for groups. Second time thete and will definitely continue to go back. BTW- giant pretzel was amazing!

5 / 5 would recommend Ashland Hill solely based on their customer service. I coordinated a dinner for my team of 15+ people and Blaine was amazing to work with. He made sure everything was set up and the staff was ready to accommodate us. My team had an amazing time. Someone on our team accidentally left their backpack, and Blaine followed up right away to get it back to us. Ashland Hill for the win!

I make sure to stop here every time I'm around the area. I was travelling with my dog a few years back and needed to find somewhere dog-friendly to stop and kill some time, and this place came up when I searched. There's outdoor seating for you and your pup, a cute little dog menu, and they always make sure there's fresh water for the dogs.

L
Luke Hagenbach

They have a decent happy hour menu from 3-6pm, Monday - Friday. They are super dog friendly; the hostess gave my dog a special dog biscuit and brought a bowl of water within 30 seconds of being seated.

P
Peggy Chavez

The burgers were delicious, the owner and staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Nice patio space. We will be back

Great stop and perfect setting. Really friendly people working. Nothing like drinking beer on the side walk in LA.

M

My friend and I are regulars here. It never disappoints. We both especially like the Mexican steak salad. The drinks are delicious. I tried the spicy pineapple margarita today. Kudos to Cynthia - for her great bartending!

Love the patio - it's like nit even being on a busy street. The breakfast tacos are really good.

I had great lunch there. They did for me Fishermans stew. Usually they offer this dish for dinner.

Fun and vibrant place with a lot of food and drink options to choose from. Using the app to order and pay is easy. Perfect for groups or solo grabbing a bite. Can get crowded so get there early.

Haven’t tried the food, but I had a lavender French 75 here that kicked my socks off. Large covered patio in the back.

L

A local bar with 5 star trends. I just came for the happy hour menu at first, but after my experience I decided to become a regular. From 3-6 Pm they have a happy hour menu. One of the items is a $25 gourmet burger with a pretzel bun, guacamole and a mystery fancy sauce, accompanied with sweet potato fries. Did I forget to mention it's only $5? The service was above average, they were cordial and attentive, made me feel like my presence was welcome. I'm not everybody's cup of tea, but I'll tell you these people just found a customer for life. P.S. although they cater to locals, I'm sure tourists are also welcome. 😊😊😊

Brussel sprouts are elite. $5 shawarma wrap, chicken sandwich and fish tacos were all great as well.

Neat little bar/grill. Stopped by after an event near the pier. I had the Tahini Rice Bowl with falafel. The rice and veggies were cooked well with the tahini adding just a bit of an edge. The falafel was tasty. My companion had an avocado caesar with chicken. She remarked that the Caesar dressing was delicious without being overwhelming.

A

Cool little place with great drinks, happy hour food and nice outdoor spaces. They have 3 outdoor seating spots. The wraps are tasty. Burgers are great, for 5 bucks, you can't beat that. Brussel sprouts are cooked well and taste great. Margaritas are fantastic. Quick and fast service, great prices for good quality food and nice portions as well. Reminds me of a high end fast food joint with a drive up window. On the weekends they have live music as well. Nice spot right on Main street thats dog friendly. Check it out.

M

Wonderful mixology and food that you can enjoy in their covered patio.

R

We just had some drinks here but was super fun. Good IPA selection and patio was cosy and warm (it got chilly on the evening) Nice place to hang & grab a beer or two. Fiancée sure liked that hazy IPA. I'll tell ya that.

M

Really great atmosphere semi outdoors. Place was warm with the outdoor heaters and they had blankets at each table. Food was delicious.

B

Awesome, kind staff, the waitress was extremely nice to me and the hostess at the front door as well. I had a giant pretzel and it was indeed giant, very tasty and soft. Nice environment, nice music and people. Will definitely come back to try out more food.

T
Truett Petty

Solid happy hour (they call it social hour) mon-fri from 3-6pm. $6 wines. Got the $6 rose (more sweet) and the $8 rose, both solid. The food is cheap as is, sweet potato fries (yummy!) are $4. Their burger is always $5.

L
Linn Lindström

Maybe the best happy hour in Santa Monica. Proper happy hour prices & great food and drink selection! The burrata with roasted grapes was nothing less than genius. My grapefruit Gin&Tonic “Silky Smooth” rivals any cocktail. Nice outdoor space that works for a quick drink or a full dinner. The waitstaff we encountered were nice and professional.

M
Michelle Auger

I ate here back in 2019, and then the pandemic happened and I had been dreaming of this tahini bowl for 2 years. It was just as good as I remembered! They no longer have indoor seating.

H
Hamada Z

This place has the ABSOLUTE BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK I dare say in SoCal! Not only do they have the tastiest Falafel and Chicken sandwich wraps but they come at a $5 price tag, I’m not even kidding! And their other menu items like the chicken tahini salad is unreal! Service outstanding and vibe great! Definitely a must do if you’re on the west side!

R

Chicken shawarma wrap is the💣

This place is the best. So much fun and great food. The poke and the pretzel are insane!

B

Everything was amazing! The vibe was super laid back. They have heaters and give blankets to each table! The service was great also. Def recommend.

M

Ashland Hill always delivers. You order up front and take a number to your table but everything else about it feels like more of a restaurant than a fast casual experience. The back area is great, they have a great selection of beers and the food is always good. My tuna tacos were a little salty but opinions might differ - I’ve never had anything I didn’t like from their menu. Tater tots are fantastic. Would definitely recommend a visit. Also great when you’ve got kids with you.

P

Cute spot! Just bumped into this place and decided to stop for brunch - very casual and friendly vibe. I ordered the chicken tahini bowl - which was intriguing and good.

Their food is delish, their patio set up is super respectful to the pandemic situation..while still being pretty! And that $5 sandwich is amazing...best afternoon pit stop ever

I come here every so often and it’s always consistently good and the staff is always nice. My favorite thing to get is the tahini bowl with chicken or falafel - both are great! Always a nice chill atmosphere, good food, and nice beer selection. Really can’t get any better than that!

S

I ordered the Spicy Mango Margarita and oohhh! was it spicy, but delicious. I ordered the fish tacos that were perfectly crispy and had an amazing flavor. Would highly recommend ordering them. Also ordered a side or the tortilla soup which was extremely satisfying and filling. My drinks were served almost immediately and the food came out shortly after. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I would recommend this location for anyone that enjoys eating outdoors during the nice warm beach weather.

B

Got the $5 burger and $5 shawarma. The burger was outstanding for its price. Very juicy. The Shawarma was flavorful. My only issue was that the chicken was a bit dry. Overall good experience and excellent prices.

M
Marissa Campion

Great spot! Small space but it has a beautiful back patio, delicious food/drinks and great food! They are dog friendly and even have a separate menu for the pups. We went for brunch... There was a little wait but the hostess checked us in with a tablet and I got a text message when the table was ready. We had a beer while we were waiting and once sat I ordered the bloody Mary - if you like those, order one! It was delicious and spicy, came with bacon and olives... It was awesome. All the food we got was delicious... We ordered the giant pretzel to start, then ordered the chicken and waffles (yum!) And the special steal roll ups... Well worth the wait. Service was awesome, everyone was so friendly! The only downside was how tight it was walking around in the back. And it's dog friendly!!

Favorite neighborhood watering hole. The breakfast hash is great in the morning, and the pretzel and frose are fun evening treats! :)

Brad Altfest
Brad Altfest

2nd time in 3 weeks and the second was every bit as delightful - chill, counter service, brunch place. Elevated brunch fare (I enjoyed the hash the first time but the chiliquiles were among my all time favorites), exceptionally executed cocktails, ample options of beer and wine and bubbles. There's a variety of seating options from sidewalk adjacent people watching atop the parking lot perch with tables and chairs, to the more outdoor bar like back area, which also seems perfect for events and with TVs etc. The place is easy to miss passing by, a sliver on Main Street. I used to live nearby and still come back frequently. Totally a neighborhood vibe and totally worth stopping in. Quintessential Venice Beach a few blocks from the ocean.

Great place for a casual but delicious bite. Usually my only issue is deciding what to eat! There is a wide selection and everything I’ve tried is tasty. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Why go to Disney when you can come here for a better giant pretzel. Great selection of local beers on tap. The burgers looked amazing, but didn’t order this time. Will definitely be back for a proper meal and HH drinks!

Really enjoyed the hamburger. Couldn't decide between the sweet potato fries and truffle fries, so we had both. Thumbs up. Great atmosphere and wait staff. It wasn't crowded when we were there but I imagine it gets pretty lively. I'll definitely come back.

Had a cool vibe and everyone was friendly and food came out quick. Had Chicken and Waffles which was different than what I was used to but it was delicious and very satisfying. It is a neat place with casual atmosphere and was not too loud which I appreciated. Will be back next time I am in the area for sure.

This place was recommended by the fabulous Amanda down at June Shine. Couldn’t have been more impressed. Great cocktail and for a $5 burger - I couldn’t have wished for more. Will definitely be returning next time I’m in town.

The breakfast burrito. Great. The chicken and waffles. Amazing. My friend said the service sucks. I thought it was fine. Coffee is strong. Ambience is perfect. Highly recommend.

Great restaurant for a pandemic. All seating is outdoors. You order and pay at the order window. Servers bring your food to your table. I had the eponymous Ashland Hill burger. It was prepared exactly the way I ordered it, and it was excellent. My wife had the chicken schwarma wrap. Also excellent. The fries were deep fried exactly right. Portions were generous. I recommend the Ashland Hill Cafe on Main Street in Santa Monica.

Plenty of outdoor seating. We just had drinks, but the menu looks pretty promising. Plenty of drink options and local draught beers as well. Quick service, just order at the window and pop a squat out front or choose from about 10 tables in the rear with more shade. Edit: food is wonderful, the $5 shawarma and $5 burger during happy hour is perfect. Happy hour is 3-6p, M-F.

This place is great! The food and service are fantastic. Their beer selection is on point. I love having an enclosed patio too. It's quieter, cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Big big bonus: their patio is dog friendly! Not to mention they have a dog menu. I love bringing my pup here when I take him out all morning, it's a treat for both of us.

Spicy pineapple Martini and good French fries were the best choice in the early afternoon being all by myself. It started to rain and I wanted to take couple hours to contemplate on my concerns. Chose the perfect spot and the service was great as well as the atmosphere.

Rebecca Acton

Fantastic food and staff. Seated in the outdoor patio which was lovely. Ordered the giant meatball for starters, cooked well and loved the tomato sauce. We had the fish tacos and Ashland hill burger for entree. Both were cooked well and tasted fantastic , the only bad thing was the burger bun went a bit soggy from the sauce and the tortillas were a bit small for the amount of fish in them. Waitress was fantastic and even gave us happy hour drink price.

T
Tay Jacobe

The $5 burger and $5 wrap here are a steal! The parmesan fries and sweet potato fries were also great. Overall, we appreciated that you can opt into the higher-priced, fancier meals or cheap out and get the budget options, and still have a great food experience either way. The outdoor seating is also lovely and well-spaced for covid guidelines!

C

Enjoyed the Egg Benedict on a lovely sunny day. Good way to start your day.

B
BJ Holmes

A great outdoor space with some local craft beers and a few international drafts. The coconut curry rice bowl was very good, had it without meat. Burger was very unique. A bit overpriced but, you pay for the covered patio/atmosphere and the chill staff. Great place to go with friends for drinks and their dope desserts.

N
Nathan Push

Went here once maybe 10 months ago and didn't come back until last night even though we live a block away. We quickly remembered why we had not come back but wanted to give it a try anyway. Basically, the beer list is decent but very expensive at $9 for virtually all craft beers (standard size). Cocktail list is great if you love gin, otherwise you're out of luck. Food menu is well crafted and has plenty of options for a group. Prices are on the high side but not unreasonable. I had a falafel sandwich which was absolutely fantastic. Wait staff is attentive and nice. Back patio is great.

M
Maryam Motamedi

The crispy cauliflower is soooo good. The food is ok and interesting. I need to eat there more to report back but the highlights are: Location (huge metered parking 1 block away), ambiance and outdoor seating, in the middle of a lot of fun action, service (walk up and order! Easy!), happy hour drinks and small bites, and great veggie plates.

Z
Zac H

Good food and service but very small outdoor and indoor area. Gets quite warm on the patio since it's surrounded by building and fencing. Reservations recommended. Oh yeah, and there are dogs everywhere so beware if you have allergies.

N
Nathan Roy

Highly recommend the burger deal — you can get a burger for an affordable price if you ask about the deal (think it’s only 5 bucks). However, if you get fries it will be another 5 dollars… classic. Good place to go during happy hour / when wanting a burger.

A
Annalisa

Nice place for drinks, relaxed atmosphere and dog friendly. They have a good selection of gin cocktails. Recommended

L
Leah Dilbeck

The food was wonderful. I especially liked the crispy cauliflower- it had a kind of kimchee garnish that made it really pop. The spicy pineapple margarita was just the right amount of spicy and sweet to be perfectly refreshing. The rear patio was very comfortable and creative. However, I didn't love all the dogs barking at each other & wandering around on long leashes. I am a dog lover - but I think their owners should teach them manners or leave them home.

M
Michael F. Connolly

Good Bloody Mary's. Five dollar burger and Shwarma wrap are each a great price and tasty! I love the setup of the restaurant which has seating right on Main Street as well as more private seating in the back. Staff is also awesome and friendly!

M
Mel

It was crowded on a Saturday night. Outside seating had nice decor, but it was pretty loud from everyone talking. They have heat lamps and provide blankets! Shrimp and mussel pasta was cooked well and the seafood was tender and fresh, but the dish was on the salty side. Portion size was great. Plenty of shrimp, but would've liked more mussel (I only had 3). Service was standard, nothing special.

Awesome place to hang out and chat. Got the fish and chips, big mistake. My friends got the Ashland burger, and it looked amazing. Will return.

Great food albeit pricey. Fries were crisped to perfection. Decent atmosphere. Dog friendly on the sidewalk tables.

Food is really good and I think that the price-amount of food ratio is fair. Its a good to place go with friends, do not go if you want a romantic date

Just had a couple drinks here with friends. Cool place, the back patio is a lot larger than it appears from the front. I just had a couple beers the server did bring me the wrong one the second time but it wasn’t bad so I didn’t send it back. Nothing spectacular but cool spot for a couple drinks with friends.

Dog friendly! We sat out front in the protected patio area. This is not a full service restaurant. You must order and pay for your food at the front window. They will give you a number and you need to find a table. My Cobb salad was delicious! I loved the Crunch of the garbanzo beans. I wou definitely order this salad again. It was very filling. My friend ordered the tuna tacos and she said if one likes spicy, then this might be good. She can't handle spicy foods well, but she was hungry so she ate all three tacos and her mouth was in fire. This place is casual and has a nice vibe for people watching . The restaurant has a full bar and specialty cocktails as well as beer and cider.

Great bar for a first date, hangout, or for midweek beers. The food is good. The burgers are the best on their menu probably. Salads were good and had a good portion. The beer selection was good. Bartenders and staff were very friendly.

Cathy K
Cathy K

Went for social hour. Ordered cauliflower, sliders and fatoosh. All were just ok. But we loved it there nonetheless and our waiter who was also the bartender was super fun. Good vibe there always.

J
Jessie Ford

Not bad. Pretty over priced for the portion sizes and the fact that you have to stand in line and order at the counter, although they do give you table service after that. My friends ordered wine and the serving was incredibly small especially for $11 a glass. Not sure if I'll go here again with so many other great restaurants around the city. Give it a try though, the food was very tasty.

K
Ken Simms

Great place for brunch but they are trying to hard with the food and cocktails. Just keep things more simple and tasty. The chicken and waffles are good but the waffle is way too thick. The place is small and One star deduction for no bottomless mimosas for brunch. VERY crowded for breakfast. Reservations are a must.

A
Ashley Dunbar

I love how this place caters to dogs and even has a little doggy menu for your pooch to enjoy eating with you. For that reason alone, I would come back here. However, I was disappointed both in the Bloody Mary, the hash and breakfast sandwich. But due to being extremely dog friendly, I will be back to give this place another try and am hoping to find a dish that I love.

W
Will Johnson

Below average chicken and waffles, but tasty ahi tuna tacos. Great patio. Their tipping settings default to include tax, so keep on eye on how much you intend to tip at this counter service restaurant.

Neat spot. We went here for my birthday as we could take the dog, however the food was somewhat underwhelming and overpriced. I would go again, but I don’t expect much. Very much an overpriced Chilis.

C
Connie & Robbie

Often come here with a large group after sporting on weekends. Like the order at the window and sit. Drinks are a bit weak but tasty. Chicken and waffles and breakfast burrito are yummy but burger was like a hockey puck. Fries were some of the best. Love the outdoor seating.

S
Sara Hallajian

Hadn't been here in a few years, and was a bit disappointed that they stopped serving tables for the price point. My husband and I ordered 2 burgers, 2 fries, Mac n cheese, and 2 beers for $95 plus tip and we had to ask for our table to be cleaned and the entire time the tables next to us were left dirty until other guests came and asked for them to be cleaned. It wasn't even busy either. I don't think it's a order and sit type of place for the price point and not really eager to go back again.

R
Roshan

Intimate bar with great selections of beers wines. The menu like any other bar-restaurant but is better than your typical bar food.

H
Hugo O

I really enjoyed their impossible truffle burger with fries. It’s tasty with just enough truffle on side. I definitely gave it a higher rating on food alone. I am not a fan of the walk up window, it creates a long line. It also seems that friends of the locals can easily walk up to a 2nd window, cut the line. It almost makes it quite annoying to try to get a 2nd drink. Tables were dirty.

A
Allison Ajax DM

I may be overly critical, since the burger was quite good. However, at $17, it was sticker shock since I had to walk up to a counter just to order it. The Sangria (see photo) was not only expensive but was also watered down and undrinkable with, no kidding, the scent of rotted melon. My dining companion did not want to make a fuss, so I went to the water station and poured my own glass of water. I dislike self-checkout at grocery stores and I'm flabbergasted that prices like these are for a self-serve restaurant.

First timers, live on other side of town but heard it was owned by Art’s Table, that had many great years & food until service slipped & they closed. We had one particularly awful experience towards the end while the entire staff chatted & ignored us at an indoor table for dinner in an empty dining room. We literally had to get up, break up the convo to ask someone if we could order. So this review is directed to AH management. The gentleman at the bar/counter Tuesday pm was awesome, great attitude, service & made us great drinks. Great first impression. Not great was a bare bones & unattractive side/back patio that looks like a dive bar. With that beautiful brick building, you can do better. We sat on the side patio at a dirty table, sticky plastic menus (ugh) while wait staff sat directly behind us (maybe break times?) carrying on loudly, yelling to each other as they passed by. This place has so much potential. I hope you don’t end up like Arts Table. We had planned to eat but left & went to the Library Alehouse instead.

M
Mauro Cavada Saldes

Nice decor but poor poor service. Me and my girlfriend came in last night to celebrate her birthday eve, we wanted some food and some drinks before we started bar hopping. Although our first impression was great it all fell apart when our server wasn’t up to the standards of a real server. Don’t know her name but she was wearing cute glasses. We could tell that we were not the only ones getting poor service, water glasses weren’t refilled, no quality check, no connection at all. All and all, I would say the guy buzzing tables deserved all the credit, you could tell he was up for bigger challenges.

J
Jason Ragoshke

Came for Sunday brunch. Ordered the chicken and waffles with a side of tots. The chicken and waffles were luke warm when they came out and cold after a couple minutes of eating. Everything was clearly heated up in the microwave instead of being made fresh. The tots were better than the chicken. I was given plastic cutlery to eat my hard chicken. For the price, this was a very sad meal.

L
Lily Hamilton

Food took over an hour because there was an issue with their system but they didn't apologize or offer any compensation. Guy was super weird and food was mediocre

B
Ben Flynn

This place use to be great when it was full service but has slowly declined. Back area is nice and hasn’t changed at all but had a chicken sandwich today that was similar to food on a plane. My stomach has been hurting after and still is. Incredibly overpriced for no service and sub par food

We went with 5 people. Food was extremely disappointing, which says a lot because we were starving. There was a full table discussion about each person’s complaint about their food. The best thing seemed to be the burger, but the fries that came with it where not cooked well at all. We also each got a drink. 4 cocktails and a beer. The cocktails tasted very artificial, with fake lime/lemon juice. Service was pretty good. We all ordered together, but my food came more than 20mins after everything else. The sever apologized, which was thoughtful, but I ate alone after everyone had finished. Atmosphere was fine—nothing to write home about. No music in the parking lot area we sat in and the ground was uneven so my chair kept tilting backward. All in all, it was fine, but won’t be back.

Bacon Mac and cheez, more like 물+1% 치즈+ bacon that was beat up by dogos. Chicken Burger, you have to chew many times to taste the flavor. Everything fresh. Just order other stuff. Atmosphere=fantastico🤌

There’s a lot not to like… No table service. If you need anything, you have to wait in line again. Suggested tipping starts at 18% although there’s no service. Muffin Sandwich - dry bun, one egg, two pieces of sausage, $17 Spicy Chicken Sandwich - oily. Also, not spicy. The chairs seem to be heavy for many of the patrons so the ambiance is screeching metal across concrete. Ashland Hill is part of a group that owns Golden Bull. Our last meal there was marginal. I would short this company.

Honestly, a terrible experience. The Cesar salad could have been a a boxed one, and I wouldn’t have noticed the difference. The salmon was okay but pretty bland with steamed veggies and rice on the side. But the worst part was definitely the experience. My friend asked for the music to be changed to something else because it was incredibly loud and distracting. Then the lady who works there comes over, clearly agitated and trying to start conflict and create a problem. Listen, if you don’t want to change the music, that’s fine. Just say No. But pretending that you’re trying to be helpful, when really you’re just agitated, is not professional. We won’t be back, because the food wasn’t good and the service was just awful.

Tried this place for the first time today having lived nearby for 10 yrs, it’s probably the worst food I have ever eaten in my life. We had 2 beers, both served warm. Breakfast burrito, filled with plain white rice (who puts rice into a breakfast burrito?) and wrapped in one of those nasty dyed red tortillas (?!), tuna tacos so salty they were inedible, onion rings drenched in stale oil, also inedible. Won’t be returning.

Bad food, slow indifferent service, very crappy beer. Prices on par with the location (high and not worth it). Near by Jameson’s or Library Ale house offer better every thing depending on what you are looking for.
