I went to The Thirsty Owl for a wine tasting with a friend. Neither of us had been here before. The decor was fun and drew us right in! We both enjoyed the wine tasting as well as the beautiful cheese platter! It was quiet when we got there but the bar ended up quite busy with 3 more couples doing the wine tasting as well as other guests. Our bartender was very attentive and knowledgeable! We will definitely be back!
Simply amazing experience! My wife and I are a huge fan of the Thirsty Owl on Cayuga Lake and it was a very pleasant surprise to find another location in Saratoga Springs. Nothing but great things to say about the location, the wine, food, and last but certainly not least, the staff! Big shout out to Elizabeth who was our server...absolutely amazing. Highly recommended!!!
Great evening, food and staff. We were a large party which can be tough. The service was attentive and seamless. The food beautiful to see and delicious to eat. Cannot wait to return. I believe our server was Leslie (Lindsay?). A special shout out to her.
I was pleasantly surprised how nice this place is. It's very classy, and has a lot of open space to socialize. The wine is very delicious, and you have the option to do a wine tasting. The food menu also has some excellent options to compliment the wine. I think you will enjoy a glass of wine, or a bite to eat here. It's definitely a place to spend with your significant other, or be a social butterfly. Wine does very magical things, ENJOY! ;)
I went in for the seafood chowderfest day in Saratoga Springs, it was hands down the best chowder I had that day! It was also the first time I visited this place and bartender's are friendly, service was fast, I have plans to go back and check out some of their other upcoming events... Great place !!!
Discovered this place for the first time today and we were very impressed. The ambience was perfect for our date. Our server ,Karen, was very attentive and friendly. She gave us plenty of time to look over the menu. The food was delicious and the wine was even better. We will be back again and I'll definitely be buying a bottle of the Blushing Moon to take home with me!
Had a party of 12 to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Everything was Amazing. The food was perfect and service was impeccable. All of the staff were very accommodating. No one in our group had been there before and it’s safe to say they gained 12 new customers. Thank you for everything. As I was reading some reviews, it’s frustrating to see people rave about Thirsty Owl, and only leave 4 stars. Listen, people, if you love the restaurant you’re at, and you’ve enjoyed the food and service, leave the five stars that are deserved!
This is one of the cutest places ever! And the wine here is a must try. They have a large variety of options guaranteed to impress the palate of any wine lover. They have indoor and outdoor dining. The food options here are also notable as they have things for those who are looking for either gluten free or vegan meals. Love, love, love this place!
We had a wonderful meal and sat outside on the porch. Varied menu and the specials were excellent. Loved their Chardonnay! Service was excellent, provided by Tiffany and Cedrick. Very efficient, welcoming, and friendly staff. We have been here a number of times o we the years but this was an especially great experience! Thank you!
Absolutely delicious! It was our first experience eating at the thirsty owl and of course due to quarantine everything was to go. We picked up our dinners in a timely matter. Everything was right and ready to go upon arrival. Our meals were hot and fresh even after the car ride home. Everything was so flavorful and delicious!
This place is a must for anyone visiting Saratoga Springs! I went with my mother and sister in June 2020 and we were blown away by the food, wine, and service. The owner Josh was beyond accommodating and took the time on a busy Friday night to talk to us and make sure that we were happy. I noticed that the rest of the staff looked genuinely happy to be working there- something that isn't easy to find in food service. I highly recommend
Wine was amazing, very light and crisp for a hot day like today. Food was delicious. The highlight of our visit though was the service. Corinn & Tiffany were both so sweet and so attentive. I highly recommend this place if you’re in the area! I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m up here!
My fiancé and I celebrated our engagement with family at Thirsty Owl last weekend after wanting to check it out for about a year. We had an incredible first visit, with top notch service from the manager, Lindsey, delicious wine, and perfect ambiance of live music. Lindsey could not have been sweeter to our family and even gifted us a bottle of wine to celebrate our news. Our food was tasty, too; even an app as simple as soft pretzels was elevated (and leftovers 100% came home with us). We will absolutely be back!
I went on a Wed during the day & sat outside on the porch. It was pleasant, cleanly & socially distanced to our satisfaction. I started with the seafood chowder packed with seafood, which was filling & delicious as usual. Next up was the crab cakes on a bed of greens with a homemade remoulade sauce. Ate one, took one home. Friend enjoyed the burger on brioche bun & fries, she ate it all! Forgot to take pics of food. Will definitely be back to have items from the Fall Menu! Reservations suggested...
Great place! We went for a tasting and came home with four bottles. They were out of a lot of their reds because they grow all their own grapes, but not being a white person, I loved the majority of their wines and a few we're spectacular. The bartender (Rick?) was so knowledgeable and provided superb service. We will definitely be back!
Delicious wines, comfy atmosphere. Very cleanly. Wines are a little pricey but there were affordable options. We weren't for a tasting and wine bottle purchase. Would be a nice place to spend some time with friends. I love all the owl pictures everywhere.
I was hesitant to go there but it was my husband's Birthday and that is where he wanted to go. The food was amazing, the service was fantastic and Kelly made sure my husband had a great birthday. I strongly recommend the Thirsty Owl for dinner while visiting Saratoga.
I wish I could give more than five stars!!!! Two tips for an amazing time: request Elizabeth and order the Myers Lemon Cake dessert!! Of course, you must order wine as well! My husband and I visited for an impromptu lunch while staying on a short overnight in Saratoga Springs: as we drove by the sign, we were overjoyed to see Thirsty Owl here and actually turned the car around! We are frequent patrons of the Thirsty Owl Winery and Bistro on Cayuga Lake, but we did not even know that they had one here in Saratoga. We stopped for a quick lunch and then end up having such a great experience that it was the highlight of our trip! The service was fantastic! Absolutely top-notch! Elizabeth was the kind of server that gets to know her patrons, and takes the time to make each person feel at home! She was knowledgeable, and willing to stop and talk to us about the local area, and also gave great recommendations on the menu and on the wines! It was on her recommendation that I tried the Meyers lemon cake, and I couldn't have been happier! Our whole meal was spectacular from start to finish, with delicious food that was the perfect size for our lunch needs. I had a chicken panini that had the most divine roasted apples in it, and my husband tried the pulled pork tacos, which had pork so tasty it could be eaten by itself. The wine was spectacular as always, I ordered a glass of the Diamond and he had a class of the 2016 Chancellor. We always highly recommend those, and were not disappointed! After each course, Elizabeth expertly cleared our area, and packed up our leftovers for us, a touch that was elegant and so unexpected. She even found us two commemorative wine glasses, which was perfect as we collect glassware and wanted something to remember our excellent experience with. By the time we had finished our meal, she had two perfectly packaged bags for us with all of our goodies! In summation, this was a delectable meal that was eclipsed by even better service! We were so impressed that the chef even came by our table to personally check in on us! Thirsty Owl never disappoints, and I highly recommend it, whether you are a wine connoisseur, or just two people looking for a fantastic meal!
Such a wonderful experience. The mussels were life changing the chef mark has unimaginable talent. Our sever Nikolas was so kind and attentive just amazing in every way. We had tailspin, blushing moon and diamond wines with a delicious charcuterie board. Very affordable pricing for bottles for purchase by the bar. The crab corn chowder was perfect i can see why it won chowderfest in 2023. We will be coming back as often as we can to try all the other options. Thank you for making our anniversary special ❤️ this is a must stop restarant. 10/10
A great dining experience. From being helped in with a wheelchair, to our last bite of food. Our waitress was friendly and pleasant. The food was amazing, delicious, large portions. we enjoyed, crabcakes, Ceaser salad, filet mignon, garlic potatoes, Brussel sprouts and raspberry cheese cake. Our complements to the chief.
Went for wine tasting and dinner. Was celebrating my birthday and I was not disappointed. My daughter and I enjoyed the wine and actually bought a bottle. Truly enjoyed the seafood chowder and the shrimp mac n cheese. My daughter enjoyed the spinach cheese appetizer. There was a guitar player and singer just a great experience and atmosphere! Worth a visit.
First time but definitely not the last time. Visited on Halloween 🎃 and did not disappoint. Great costumes by the staff, patrons and 😉. The bacon filet was cooked perfectly and the rum punch would satisfy any pirate.
We hosted our son's Rehearsal Dinner here - followed by a Welcome Reception for out of town guests. The staff was awesome - the food was delicious and the venue was perfect! Thank you so much to Lindsey and team for making our night a shining success - many guests commented on how wonderful the evening was. And, to top it off, the wine was terrific!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND considering Thirsty Owl for your next function. We luckily chose this location for our rehearsal dinner (party of 30 or so) and everything was wonderful and absolutely perfect. Lyndsey & Ryan ran our event and they were attentive to our guests, friendly, easy going, and accommodating. We had our rehearsal dinner on the covered veranda on a beautiful August night and they had it decorated with beautiful hanging baskets of flowers and set-up a buffet and bar for us on the veranda. Food was excellent - don't skip the appetizers. Our guests loved the spinach artichoke dip. Wine was delicious and enjoyed by many of our guests. I am a fairly critical reviewer and can assure you they will not disappoint! Our wedding day had many hang-ups, and I fondly remember the rehearsal as going perfectly. Thanks again to Lyndsey & Ryan for providing a memorable night for our close friends and family on a very important weekend in our lives!
I hosted a small (5 people) private birthday dinner for my mom. Lyndsey was extremely friendly and helpful. She helped organize a 4-course wine and food pairing menu even though we were a small group. They set us up in a private room that we were able to decorate in advance. The food was amazing and the portions were quite large, we were stuffed when we left. One of the owners came up at the start of each course and explained the reason for each wine pairing. Overall the experience was fantastic. I would highly recommend it.
We went to the Thirsty Owl for the first time today. It was one of the best lunches we have ever had. I had the crab cakes. They were 85% crab (I found out later). There was a very light coating of whatever they used so not greasy, very light and crispy. Just absolutely delicious! I asked for bread. It was served hot and was great. My husband, who ordered fish and chips that are his favorite, said they were better than perfect. I had a glass of Pinot Gris (yum). The Martini he ordered was the only item not up to his standards. It was not served in a Martini glass and was not as cold as it should be but overall this was a wonderful experience.
We just had a bridal shower at Thirsty Owl and it was fantastic! The space was beautiful, food and drink were perfect, and the staff was amazing! They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had what they needed, from drinks in hands to helping our elderly guests. Highly recommend! We will definitely be back.
Absolutely wonderful!! The waiter was spot on with recommendations, his knowledge of product was excellent! We didn't have reservations, they squeezed us in, and then kept us there with their genuine hospitality, that went above and beyond anything I have seen in a very long time, especially with the world the was it is! They interacted with all the guests, and had a larger bachellorette party that was having a grand time and further lightening the mood of the rest of the patrons, still never missing a beat! Thank you, we will be back!!
Thanksgiving buffet brunch today was our first dining experience here and it was excellent. Wide variety of tasty dishes - all traditional dishes supplemented with other complementary options including desserts. Friendly staff. Good value for the price. Ready to book again next year - unexpectedly liked the 11 am slot we got because the 1 pm and 3 pm times booked quickly. Had the all afternoon to burn those extra calories...
Husband and I visited recently for wine tasting and brunch after. Staff was friendly, food was good, but most importantly I really liked wine. To be honest we visited almost all of the wineries in the area and this was our favorite. Bought few bottles right there and when we ran out of them, ordered a case that came to NYC in 2 days. Will deffinitely be ordering again. PS there is 20% off a case.
We had a great lunch on the porch on a perfect Summer day. Everything was perfect. We had both the white and red sangria, an ice dessert wine, salmon plate, seafood chowder, pumpkin bisque, lobster tacos, cheesecake, and creme brulee. The seafood chowder especially stood out. Great texture and flavor with just the right amount of salt. The lobster tacos were fantastic, as was the creme brulee. All great. It's hard in Saratoga to find a food experience that matches the high price, but Thirsty Owl gets it done. Service was also great and didn't miss a beat. Right on cue with the drinks and everything. We got an 11 meal for the price of an 8. Not a common occurrence at all in SS where usually it's a 5 for the price of an 11. We'll be back for sure. T.O.-keep doing what you're doing.
I’m a local and love stopping by the Thirsty Owl as much as I can! Good food, good wine, great service, awesome vibes. They have excellent gluten free options — love their gluten free flatbread! I also had my baby shower here and it was a great experience. Highly recommend!
Great food and great atmosphere. The menu had a good mix of regular foods both for those who like to play it safe and those who like try new culinary creations. For dinner we had the Melon Gazpacho (different), Thirty Owl Platter for two (a meat and cheese tray - delicious mix of both), mussels (never had them with tomato sauce before - very good), beef carpaccio (very good) and duck drummers (a satisfying alternative to chicken - very good). For dessert, we had the Key Lime Pie (good) and the mousse (very good). My wife also recommends the flourless chocolate cake (very good).
One of our favorite places to visit in Saratoga. The location is just outside of downtown and offers indoor and outdoor seating. The seafood chowder is award winning and absolutely delicious with large chunks of seafood, it is truly the best chowder I’ve ever had. The charcuterie board is a great accompaniment to the selection of wines, the only thing we wish it had some mustard and or jam to go with the meat/cheese.
My daughter hosted a party here for about 30 people and everything was top notch! The room with the bar is open and airy with beautiful light through windows, setting the atmosphere. She says the owner was easy to work with and accommodating to our dietary needs, and all the food was delicious… I especially enjoyed the crab cakes, the Caesar salad was “the best Caesar salad” my husband ever had, and the whole group raved about the BLT wraps! The wine was outstanding and Christine was so attentive, noting when each of our glasses needed a little refill ;-). Would definitely host a party there again! Kudos to the chef and staff for helping to make an amazing day!
The Thirsty Owl was the perfect way to end my last night in Saratoga Springs! Their wines were fantastic. The staff was very knowledgable about what they had to offer. They also have really good food if you want to hang out and have a glass of wine. I brought a few bottles back home with me to remember the trip!
Lovely atmosphere to so in for a wine tasting or dinner. The staff was winning and accommodating talking and entering we got star we wanted and killed what e we had. Cute married couple that was adorable had their weekly date night next to us and loved it so much they said there were heading this place a regular. Bowie was yummy and salad was refreshing.
This was our second stop last night, so just wine and dessert to cap off our celebration. I can't believe I have never been here before, but to be honest, my husband and I are not wine drinkers. 2 of us ordered a few glasses of wine and were very pleased (2 types of Riesling and an Ice Wine). The waitress was very helpful with steering them to ones they might like. Dessert was split among the 5 of us: 1 bread pudding, 1 slice of peanut butter pie, 1 slice of Flourless Chocolate Cake, and 1 Creme Brulee. This is seriously now my favorite place for dessert. There were more items we didn't try, plus dinner entrees that sound amazing! Wonderful service and a warm, inviting space to spend time hanging out and enjoying drinks and food. Cannot recommend this place more.
The Thirsty Owl was delicious. I had the Soup of the Day which was a Chicken vegetable in a flavorful lite broth. I followed that with the Chicken Wraps, they were PHENOMENAL. I paired my dinner with a glass of Snow Owl wine. My husband had the Stuffed Shrimp with fresh Spinach and Risotto paired with Tailspin wine also PHENOMENAL. We were so happy the Chef came out of the kitchen and we were able to personally thank him and discuss the details of what made our dinner so good. I give the Thirsty Owl 10 stars!
Good wine, good food, friendly staff. Tastings are cheap and if you spend $30 on wine they'll refund you the money for the tasting! They have seating at the wine bar or outside on a covered porch and they serve lunch. Ive only gotten the cheese/meat board but I hear the lunch is really good. They'll even occasionally have live music which is also pleasant. Heads up though, there is very limited parking and you might need to park on the street nearby
We went on a Sunday evening, the place was very quiet. I had the filet mignon (cooked perfect) and my husband had the sole. The food was good, service was good/friendly but a little Slow for the place being so empty. We ordered the Chocolate lava cake and it came out visibly burned on the top and still cold in the middle. It smelled so burned that the scent lingered around the table. My husband and I joked that they must have taken the creme brûlée kitchen torch to it.
This is a pleasant venue with food that's more adventurous and less cookie-cutter than the standard Saratoga fine dining place, yet still approachable. For nice weather there's a narrow outside deck that runs alongside the dining room; keep in mind you're at a fairly busy intersection and try to get a seat as far back from Broadway as you can, which will also place you close to the kitchen and may result in better service. I like the wines okay, but not as much as the food. Typical of Finger Lakes, they're very mild in taste and fairly pricey. Try a tasting flight before your meal then decide on one you like to purchase.
What a great place. I believe owners were the wait staff and servers; so nice, prompt service, nice atmosphere and well prepared food. Had the NY strip and two glasses (PN and a Syr) of their wine and was happily impressed. Classy American fare menu, can be tailored for desired and needs (like allergies) with ease. Will make this a visit every time I’m in town and easily on the top three list for Saratoga dining.
We went around 1pm on a Tuesday, were able to seat ourselves, we chose the patio (started to downpour by the time our entrees arrived so we moved inside) 10/10 recommend the pretzels and cheese, the best I've had in a while! I ordered the salmon with asparagus risotto, the salmon was good, the risotto was a little bland but not bad. My husband ordered a burger with fries (I stole some fries, very good) He said his burger was very tasty! Our server was very kind and quick to refill our waters and ask if we needed anything. Also helped us move inside when it started to downpour!
It was a good experience. Not the best but good. We were sat at the bar while we waited for our table. Waitress was nice, we thought the food was delicious. There are GF options on the menu but for the main course you have to ask. Honestly the experience wasn’t bad, food was good. The bread for the board I believe reminded me of pizza dough. Was very tasty, we’d go again!
The atmosphere of this place was really nice. The location itself was absolutely beautiful as well. We were able to experience 5 wines. I had lobster tacos. The tacos were over sauced. I couldn’t really taste the lobster itself. The shell I feel didn’t fit well with the meal. I tried the scallops and I had to give my compliments to the chef! They were so well seasoned and tender. Again this was a really nice place and I enjoyed it.
The service was fantastic, our waiter and check-in woman were very friendly and attentive. The cook of the food was good; my boyfriend got the cornish hen, I got the salmon with mushroom risotto, and we both got the mussels as an appetizer to share - BUT the food was incredibly bland. My boyfriend and I piled so much salt and pepper on it it was insane. His vegetables tasted like nothing, his chicken was "just there" and my risotto, although perfectly cooked, was literally tasteless. The mussels also tasted exactly like sea-water. We just got back from Atlantic City and the mussels tasted identical to the waves splashing in our mouths. Needless to say, we are never going back. Just wish the food had any type of flavor. Our first time here; Really was looking forward to loving this place.
We have previously been to their Winery in the Finger lakes so having a bit of knowledge about the wine was nice. My dinner and wine were very tasty. My fiance's Owl Sirloin came out cold as well as the demi glaze on too was almost refrigerator cold. We spoke with our waitress Corinne who was more then accommodating and took it back for correction. Sadly for my fiance it was lackluster but we both agreed that the Chicken Cordon Bleu I ordered was wonderful as was our corn chowder, and bourbon bread pudding with vanilla bean ice cream. Would visit again with a different dinner selection for my fiance. Thank you to Corinne and cannot wait to catch up with you again one evening!
We had dinner in the Bistro and found it to be over-priced. The Caesar Salad was $12 but the dressing on the salad tasted store bought and the croutons were plain, nothing special at all. The crab and lobster roll was tasty but tiny, a mini-roll filled with a quarter cup of salad at best. The french fries that accompanied it were nicely seasoned and satisfactory. Quite frankly though, we could have had the lobster roll dinner at Ninety-Nine for closer to half the price and been just as happy with it. With three glasses of reasonably priced wine between us and no coffee or dessert , my husband and I paid $90.
Ate at the bar since we didn't have a reservation. Service was uneven and overall disorganized. Got our drinks quickly, but it was a while before one of the 3 staff behind the bar asked for our food order. We waited 40 minutes for our food, as did a couple sitting near us. One of the two women got her food, but the other didn't get hers until her friend was finished with her food. When we finally said something about the wait, they started apologizing profusely and said they only had one chef in the kitchen because this was supposed to be a slow night because the track is dark on Tuesdays. Food was good, but seafood Mac and cheese for $23 was penne and some of those small salad shrimp.
This is a bifacated review that averages 3 stars. The hostess who seated us was very friendly and polite. The decor is very inviting. The food was very good. All of that would get 5 stars. Our service was not satisfactory by anyone's standard. Started out OK and went downhill. While the other waitress was very much present at the other tables ours was MIA for long periods of time and serving style was sub par. Table clearing and presentation not properly attended to. I left a lousy tip for sure but it was earned. Wanted to see manager but she was on the phone. Waitress asked us to wait to make sure we left enough and made a nice little display of counting in front of other customers. Called manager, she backs her waitress that she gave excellent service even after I gave 5 examples of inferior service and could have went on but I was told "sorry you feel that way, I have another call and hung up". Funny that manager gave the other waitress on deck the table next to us, you guessed it the productive one. Sorry I don't just give my money away because its Saratoga. 1 star, average 3 stars.
Clean and neat. My wife really liked her salad I got a different salad and hardly anything in the bowl, very little blue cheese and it was $17 for very little. Server was not rude but was not friendly either. Would give it 3.5 stars as my wife liked her salad
Wine and ambiance were great. Service and staff were awesome. But food was very underwhelming. Charcuterie board left a lot to be desired. Spinach dip had basically no taste and was so watery. Only good food was the bang bang shrimp on special. Hard pass if in the area again.
I’m afraid this place won’t be here next year when we come for our annual trip! We’ve been here several times in the past and loved it. Tonight we had to pay for two wine tastings, even though we bought a 1/2 case of wine! That’s unheard of! The crab and corn chowder was delicious, but there was no hint of crab, whatsoever. Two parties seated after us were told they would need to be patient as they had a large party. There were several empty tables - the last two times we were there, every table was filled. The two servers at the wine bar were very personable and knowledgeable.
We discovered this place after striking out on our wanted choice for dinner that night. It's our first night in town and to kick off our gateaway on a good note. Waited forever to be seated by the hostess, as the hostess was playing multiple roles of being a server as well. We ordered bottle of Pinot noir rose which was good, but took forever to get to take our order. We ordered small plates style instead of ordering large entree choices. We all had cup of seafood chowder which was ok, just very rich. Then we ordered caprese salad, lamb lollipop, and steak bites. The only decent thing was lamb lollipop. The steak bites was so overdone. I liked the caprese with fresh burrata cheese. That was good. The service was just so slow; and give credit to our waitress who did check in often on us as much she could. It's rather unfortunate 3 out of 4 things we ordered didn't come out great.
So, I really, really don’t want to talk bad about any small business during the pandemic, especially one that I think is a family run business. My experience was so weird however, I feel like the owner would appreciate the feedback. First, the owner himself kept referring to me and my wife as ‘kids.’ Not the biggest deal, it just seemed like his demeanor and his way. I loathe/hate being called a kid, chief, boss, or anything there-after. It instantly puts me on the defensive, makes me not like you and feels immediately conceded and disrespectful. Other than that, engaging guy. It was interesting that just before getting there, my wife and I had the conversation that, over the last decade, in our many travels we never received bad service which leads to my main gripe. In so many words, the young lady who was waiting on us was awful. Again, I’m sure she’s fighting the good fight too and really good at something. But, if I’m spending on a decently priced meal, I would rather not have napkins folded literally right in front of me, my dishes moved while I’m eating from it to make room for a new item or just the overall crassness with which she handled our seating. Other than that, cool little place but could use a lot more organization.
Disappointed. My wife and I were recommended to try this restaurant by a colleague, but we went for lunch on Palm Sunday and unfortunately we were left disappointed with both the service and the quality of the food. We tried the cajun-seared tuna and the crab cakes for appetizers, and the pan seared snapper and seafood di mare for the second course. The menu and the website give an impression of a quality restaurant, but the service, the food and the presentation were all low-level.
I treated my fiance here got her the steak with shrimp scampi asparagus and mashed potatoes. The asparagus was plain No seasoning and it was Cold. The steak even though it had no fat it was as small as my 2 year old small foot. I ordered a Gourmet burger and it was horrible bread was freezer cold the burger had No lettuce No tomatoes just sauteed onions a aioli that's it!! For a 45 dollar meat meal and a 24 dollar burger I expected musch better. Especially being my parents was the ones who said it was so wonderful so big of a plate m.
Had high hopes and was extremely disappointed. So we ordered for takeout. Our orders were the chopped burger, sirloin steak and marcarpone cake. The cake and the truffle fries that came with the burger were amazing. 5/5. But the rest, well let's just say we ate because we had nothing else to eat and of course because we paid for the food! The steak had no seasoning whatsoever, the butternut squash mush was bland as well. Also the steak should have come with a garlic demi, either there was none or too insignificant to notice. The burger was supposed to have caramelized onions, didn't find any. The taste wasn't that good either for the price. I don't know whether the kitchen was having a bad day or what, probably if we had dined in, the experience could have been better, probably they care less for takeouts. All in all our experience wasn't very good.
Out of a party of eight, all of us were disappointed in our meal. Food was either overcooked, underseasoned, undercooked, or swimming in what tasted like store bought sauce. I ordered a Moscow Mule. I'm not sure what the drink they brought me is called, but it was not a Moscow Mule. The sangria was just a glass of white wine with an apple slice in it. The appetizers were okay, but no "OMG that is sooo good" moments. This was our first and last time eating at the Thirsty Owl.
The wines were good as usual, however the service was just the opposite. We stopped on a Tuesday afternoon with a group of 8, 6 of us being wine club members and long time customers, and felt like we were treated as cattle being processed. Very disappointed, and not at all the experience we have been accustomed to having. We typically leave with a lot of wine, but the experience was a big turn off.
We went it in, we were told it would be 2 hours but sit at the bar if you want. We left, called and made a reservation got one for 1.5 hours. We went back for the reservation, stood at the bar We were totally ignored. People we met at our hotel were at the bar, still waiting to be seated for 700pm reservation, it was 720pm. We got seated ahead of them. First 2 people at our table were very friendly, our waitress , not so nice. Was not happy we asked for separate checks for 3 of us. Said it would take longer. Too bad, were the customers. Just about threw the soup crackers on our table. Corn and Crab chowder was good, but no crab, lol. Crab cakes were nothing special, not worth the 22.00 dollars. Hope it was just an off night, if not your in trouble. Took a long time to get our food.
Went for Mother's day brunch. Food was wonderful. Beautiful building. I will say I will never return do to the fact of service. Server who automatically get a 20%. Rude, rolls her eyes. Didn't want to separate our checks, because it was to hard. Plus to tell me your short handed. Sorry everyone is. All she had to do was be kind. No one was being pushy. It's not like she took our orders. But again the food was great.
We were seated promptly and Ashley was our server. She BTW was wonderful. Wife ordered Seafood Marconi I ordered the evenings special Prime Rib ( couldn't really rate it as prime rib ). The dish arrived, unfortunately the meat was tough and cold! The only thing I was able to tolerate was the mashed and broccoli that were at least warmer. Ashley offered to have the dish returned, but unfortunately I have serious trust issues with kitchen staff having a dish returned! Our server did comp us on the salad and dessert. Again Ashley was great, the kitchen staff were awful!
Thirsty Owl was always on our list of restaurants to hit when we came up for the last four days of racing season. We always had a great meal up until this year. And, as so many other restaurants in Saratoga Springs, once we have a bad meal, we will not be back. Our meals were just not good. My two friends had the chicken florentine, sauce had no taste, chicken was tough and stringy. I had the BBQ short ribs over polenta. Now, short ribs are supposed to melt in your mouth. These were tough and stringy, with what tasted like bottled bbq sauce poured on them. Plus, they served these two entries in bowls, very difficult to cut your meat in a bowl. Although, I enjoyed their draft beer, my friends each had a glass of wine, very paltry pour of wine for the price. We always liked it here because of the location, the bar and the ambience, but unfortunately due to the quality and price of the food, we will not be back.
I’m honestly so sad this place turned out to be a bummer! We ordered the charcuterie board and it was very disappointing, old cheese, strawberries with soft spots about to rot, the drinks were great and the waitresses did an amazing job! But the food was pretty poor in quality, not sure who’s cheffing it up in the back but that’s not what you serve customers.
We ate at this restaurant 2 years ago and it was delicious. Ate there this evening and it was so disappointing. Veal dish was over cooked, heavily breaded, dry, Caesar salad had lots of dressing but no acid. Waited 35 minutes for dinner to arrive. Unfortunately we won’t be returning. Sad…
My daughter and three nieces had dinner on 7/17/21.and it was an awful experience. The serving staff very friendly and attentive ;but the kitchen staff were not able to get the food out on time. We waited 50 minutes for the cup of soup which was part of the special. Following this another 50 minutes for the main course. The food was not good. My daughter had the polenta and duck. The duck was cold and the polenta grainy and watery. We ordered lobster Mac am and curase and were served penne pasta with 3 piece of shrimp on a white sauce. The rest of the fisher were bad fish very dry. Seafood fettuccine very runny and not tasty. Not eve my beet and carrots salad was edible. The salad was drenched with balsamic and there were only 4 tiny slivers of beets on the salad. Don’t recommend!!
Sadly my friends and i had a terrible experience at this place. Food is way too over priced. The waitress we had was very condescending and rude to us when asking about the menu items. We tried speaking with the manager at the end of the night and he became defensive and tried to make an excuse for the waitress. Never again! I couldn't help but to think we were treated unfairly because we are people of color.
We were seated right away and thenwWaited 45 minutes to get a server to take our order. The food was fine but then had to flag down a server to pay our bill. I work in the industry so I understand the labor shortage. But to have more than one party seated after you served and checked out before you is just bad service. Until they work this out I could never recomend this place. Service was so bad we did not even do a wine tasting.
We heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. 4 of us, unfortunately all four give it a thumbs down. Best thing was the meat and cheese platter. We all had salad, good size but dressing had no taste whatsoever, ordered more dressing and it was like water. Wife ordered Chicken, was extremely dry. Friends ordered a steak and commented it was dry and tasteless. Burger was ok and dessert (bread pudding) was hard and resembled french toast, not bread pudding. Extremely disappointed! Have a drink here, but eat elsewhere!
We were in Saratoga for a rowing weekend, saw good reviews for the Thirsty Owl and were looking forward to trying it. We were very disappointed in the service and the food was just so-so. A cheese “board” with Pepperidge Farm crackers and supermarket cheese? Never what we would expect in a restaurant. Our entrees were okay but my halibut was a teeny tiny portion and the “frites” with my husband’s steak were just soggy French fries. Hardly special. Our biggest disappointment was with the service. The waitress was very friendly, but our entrees arrived immediately after our cheese plate. We got lots of apologies for the error, but no offers to fix this by slowing down our meal or offering to take something off the bill. Why send people over to ask us if everything is okay and then NOT do anything for the customer. This isn’t a cheap restaurant and we were finished with our meal in less than an hour.
We had a reservation for 9 for a Bachelorette party. Since our group had various methods of payment we split our group into 3 sets of 3. Upon arriving we immediately asked the waitress who sat us down if we could do 3 seperate checks for our groups of 3, all of whom were sitting grouped together. Our waitress immediately threw a fit saying it was inconvenient followed by slamming our glass water cups on the table, mumbling about the inconvenience to her. It was very awkward and rude, the bride to be and the party felt unwelcome the entire rest of the time. We were given a second waitress who we would like to commend, she was very friendly and accommodating and didn't bat an eye at the 3 seperate check requests. The initial waitress continued to be overheard making comments about our party. Extremely unwelcoming and unprofessional environment thanks to that one woman. Would not recommend and will not be back.
While the malbec and music were moderately enjoyable, the service was abysmal. We had reservations, still had to sit at the wine bar for 40 minutes waiting for an appetizer to show up, then later when finally seated where told they would be back to take our order in 20-30 minutes. We left rather than getting food (maybe, if lucky) an hour or two after our reservation time.
Such a sad experience. This restaurant was chosen because 2 of our party are gluten free and they have many options. Unfortunately, after waiting well over an hour and seeing the same entrees we ordered go to several tables that were seated and ordered after us, our waiter told us he didn’t know why our order kept getting pushed back, but now they had run out of the sides that went with our halibut. The manager then told us it was because one of our party special ordered the seafood mac & cheese gluten free (even though their menu notes this is available). When we pushed on this, the manager said that if we didn’t like it and didn’t what substitute sides, we could leave, and that is exactly what we did. This was a birthday celebration for my wife that was ruined by this poor restaurant. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I will say though, that the young waiter, who shared he only had a month of experience, was friendly and tried hard.
2025: we asked for bread three times and it never showed up .. we had one good meal and one absolutely reprehensible meal but not nearly as bad as the service. They never checked in to see if we're okay . . I never had my water glass refilled God knows where the bread went that we asked for three times no apologies no checking in I could not give this restaurant a worse rating . This makes two bad meals in a row at this place.. I'm done with it. I'm told the wine is good so I'm not commenting on that but the food is not even a crapshoot it's garbage accompanied by a totally incompetent staff that just doesn't care. 2023: Excellent wine, very good steak, terrific bread, good service but with all that said...do not order the broiled seafood platter, it was horrible, not fresh and a total fail, ....the place has good entertainment, nice vibe. Stick to the non-fish menu and lovely wine selection. Four people: total bill $266
The Thirsty Owl has been a favorite however today was a horrible experience and unfortunately one that will keep me from ever returning. 2 of us arrived for lunch and were first told seating was probably not an option without a reservation. We were then offered a seat however it was prefaced with “food will be delayed!” So we sat at the bar, ordered wine and decided to order the charcuterie board, only to be told “food is no longer available to order at this time”! Kitchen is overwhelmed!! Really, it’s cold food, no cooking required! We left our remaining wine and vacated the bar. I will never return!! It is summer in Saratoga and you seem ill prepared to manage it!! Good luck with track season, if you can’t handle July 6th!!
Based on the reviews, we expected a decent meal and it wasn’t. It was a huge disappointment. It was marginally edible, at best. The salmon and hamburger were both off. My husband didn’t eat his. My son was starving so ate his but said it didn’t taste good. The Brussel sprouts were maybe boiled and void of flavor. Some mushy and some hard as a rock. The linguine pasta that came with the eggplant was packaged but also parts were crunchy and stuck together at the ends. They messed up packaged pasta. Also, it wasn’t freshly made. It wasn’t a cheap meal and to say it was a disappointment is an understatement.
First of all, this place is freaking overpriced. Second one, the server shows her attitude (Tall with a ponytail). Third, it was some "resturant week menu" when it were three coursesfor 35$ so the server said we can't pick from desserts and it will be dessert plate "because they have so much customers, so they have only leftovers" LEFTOVERS! My wife ordered well-done salmon, and when the server brought it, it was not well done it was even not cooked. This is absolutely ridiculous, the menu is super small, portions are small, and the food is ok. Highly NOT recommended!
I had high hopes for Thirsty Owl, but my recent visit was nothing short of a disaster. As a former loyal customer, I was excited for restaurant week, but the experience left me extremely disappointed. We arrived around 2:20pm and were told we couldn’t be seated until 3pm, which was understandable without reservations. However, when we tried to order an appetizer at the bar while waiting with our wine, I was told the kitchen was so backed up that they couldn’t take any food orders at all. It’s baffling that a restaurant wouldn’t even allow guests to order an appetizer while waiting at the bar with drinks. When we were finally seated at 3pm, we learned they were out of both the burger and the apple crisp, leaving us with only two options for mains and desserts. Already frustrated and hungry, we waited nearly an hour after we got there just to place any kind of food order. When the food finally arrived, the chicken was chewy and disappointing. I asked for extra ranch and was told, “we might be out of that.” After waiting another ten minutes and asking again, I was given barely a teaspoon of ranch. Throughout the meal, our waitress never checked on us, never refilled our waters, and didn’t even ask how everything was when bringing the check. The only thing she made sure to ask was if we cashed out at the bar. The service was terrible, the food was subpar, and the overall experience was awful. I won’t be returning to Thirsty Owl, especially with so many other quality restaurants in the area that actually care about their customers and provide real service. Take care, Thirsty Owl—hopefully you can turn things around, but I won’t be back.
Good wines too bad for the food. We had a grilled olives and pita starter. The olives were probably warmed in a microwave and tasted like out of a can with cheap brining. My chicken florentine was served in a pasta bowl making difficult to cut the 4 large pieces of chicken boiled in a white-ish watery sauce with 4 spinach leaves on a bed of unevenly cooked fettuccine. My companion ordered salmon (again served in a pasta bowl) which came with a peeled tomato semi cooked on top and again swimming in a watery tomato sauce. Food tasted meh, plating very sloppy. Clearly who cooks there doesn’t care about food. Too bab because the wines are good and the location is nice. I will not go back.
Been to Thirsty Owl last night 8/31/25, food was good the service was HORRENDOUS. They weren't even busy. It was 8:15. They ran around like chicken with heads off. Fake niceness to not nice at all. Slow service. I don't mind a slow kitchen but slow service no drink order no bread no water. Awful. The bartender on last night was only shining light. What a great guy. Good personality, a worker. Leaving his post to deliver items, clean up tables, deliver food. This staff was more concerned about cleaning up&getting out than current customers. I cannot stand that. Still left 20% tip but shouldn't have. I'm in restaurant business in nyc for 30 yrs and they would've got much, much more. They were TERRIBLE. You used to have a great older staff and older waitress. Blonde/ brown hair good personality. This young generation stinks. They don't have "it." Only the bartender last night had the work in him. Take my warning ownership... .as people tighten up it will do you no good to have not confident, non happy faced, non engaging work staff. Get more organized or you won't stay in business.
