Jumpin Jack Scotia New York offers a quintessential American drive-in experience, ideal for a casual dinner. This legendary establishment consistently delivers on its promise of classic fare within a vibrant setting, making it a compelling stop for anyone seeking traditional comfort food. During our dinner visit, the menu showcased a range of barbecue, hamburgers, hot dogs, and fried fish. The Hamburgers and Onion Rings emerge as a definite must-order; the quality of the beef and the crispness of the rings truly elevate the meal, providing excellent flavor and texture. While the culinary offerings are solid, the overall atmosphere with occasional water skiing shows adds a unique charm to the experience. Parking is notably easy, but patrons should anticipate an average wait time of approximately 15 minutes for their orders. We anticipate returning to this iconic spot.
A great place stuck back in time when fast food was great and served with a smile. Amazing burgers and fries, great fish sandwiches
Good grill food for burgers, fish fries, chicken fingers and soft serve ice cream, with a nice view of the Mohawk River and occasional performances by a water ski team. The line is sometimes long during peak lunch hour, but that reflects the good, fast food service. The atmosphere is fun as you order and have that "translated" to "Jumpin Jack's speak". If in the Schenectady or Soctia area, skip the chain restaurants and come here. Even a small gratuity paid at the register garners a special response from the staff. Definitely good eats.
If you are looking for a quality, inexpensive place to bring your family this is it!! Food was very good, service was a bit slow (it was BUSY), ice icream was just what we needed. We fed 3 people, with ice cream, for just under $27. Definitely going back even though we are about 20 miles from there. Yup that good!!
Vibes are immaculate. A great summer spot to enjoy a meal at.
Great burgers! This is an experience that takes you back my teen years. Lots of drive-ins then. Pretty reasonable on prices too. Easy parking. Have gluten-free buns available.
Great ice cream. Old time feeel of an original burger spot with a separate place to get ice cream too. Lots of outdoor seating.
First time coming here. Tried both typical fast food items (Jackburger, fish fry, twisted fries) and a brownie sundae. Everything tasted great! The sundae in particular, with banana soft serve, was delicious.
Amazing place to get great quality food served by quality people! The park across the road makes for an amazing place to walk around and eat your ice cream. The river and music venue give you great places to sit and eat while enjoying some beautiful scenery and wonderful people.
Short menu of standards. Even when the line is long, it goes quickly! Be ready with what you want to order when asked. Prices aren't bad considering everywhere else's pricing. Order the fried dough, you will not regret it. The jack burger is a must have, double stacked cheeseburger with coleslaw. The ice cream in the second building is great! Check the schedule for events, or enjoy the park across the street. Parking lot can fill up, but they do have spots around back of the buildings also.
Fast service with exceptionally hilarious staff. The food was delicious, as always. Such a fun place to go for a evening out. Can wait to watch all the local bands & water skiing.
You eat out side if you like water then your in luck it's of the river and the park is a cross the street and some times there is music next store.they have ice cream as well and boat show to watch if you like. It can be a fun family time.
I've been coming here for 49 years. It's still as good as I remember! This is a place that goes beyond just a yearly tradition. It's somewhere that has something for everyone!!
Jumping Jacks Drive-In is an absolute gem! Despite the always-full parking lot, it's no mystery why this place is bustling with patrons - it's simply that good! From the moment you pull in, you're greeted with the welcoming sight of friendly staff and the enticing aroma of delicious food wafting through the air. Their menu boasts a variety of cheap and mouthwatering options that never disappoint. Whether you're craving a classic burger and fries or something a bit more adventurous, they've got you covered. And let's not forget about their ice cream - while they may only offer two flavors daily/weekly, each cone of soft serve is an absolute delight. Sure, there may be a bit of a wait, but trust me, it's well worth it. Plus, the lively atmosphere only adds to the overall experience. Jumping Jacks Drive-In has rightfully earned its reputation as a beloved staple in the community, and it's easy to see why. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience!
Always a great experience. Employees are friendly, and the food is so good.
I mean you get what you pay for jumping Jack's has food they serve every year of the same stuff so if you like it it's the best thing ever and of course jumping jacks being on the river and by the park is a huge plus
Old fashioned customer service with great burgers and shakes! Cool old time experience. Great for anyone and right on the river with ski shows at certain times.
Great place for a fast dinner on a summer night. Everything is made to order in front of you. Plenty of covered pavilion with seating. Great view of the river out. Make sure to save room for ice cream. Unfortunately I was to hungry and didn't get a Pic. If in the area definitely recommend.
This retro incredible place will always be a favor of mine until the day I drop. I’m never get tired of the food or the fact that I can put my little 10 pound dog on the picnic table while eating it’s clean freaking delicious and always fun even if the line looks long it goes really fast all the high school kids that work there are actually not idiots. They know what they’re doing and they get the job done. Anybody have any age would love it if you’re looking for a healthy place this is not it. But who cares you have to enjoy some things in life just close your eyes and point at the menu and anything you pick will be super yummy as heck Last night after eating fish fry and jack burger, my favorite combined dinner with onion rings I actually ate two ice creams I had to give one to my dog a little bit no??
An institution! No frills but friendly fun staff and great food! Nothing has changed since we left in the early seventies. We make a point of visiting whenever we are in town.
On a nice sunny day the grill was excellent. Not sure how rainy days might be. They were doing landmark business and the wait was not long. Great staff that were very friendly. The sausage, onions and peppers sandwich was HUGE! GREAT eating option. There at 1 pm. The cheeseburger was just ok. The price was right though.
Great outdoor spot in Scotia. The food was delicious. The employees were efficient, kind, and friendly. It's very clean. All the customers appeared very happy. It's a great spot for families, date night, or a quick bite to eat.
Always such a fun experience watching the line and how they use their own house lingo for orders! Yummy fried vlasics and offer gluten free buns!
Have been going to Jumpin’ Jack’s for a few years now and have always had a good experience. There is plenty of seating and fast service despite some long lines. It’s fun to enjoy a burger and fries (or other) along the river and maybe catch a water ski show. And you can’t forget to go to the ice cream shop next door. A great place to hang out with friends or family and then take a walk in the park.
The BEST BURGERS in the capital district! Great onion rings and slaw too! AND THEY'RE OPEN!, after their winter hiatus. Bring your jacket because it's windy. Plenty of parking and tables. Expect a line, though staff keeps it moving. Whenever I'm in Schenectady County in the summer I always end up going.
Another classic experience! Hasn't changed much in decades. Just good ole food. Loved the fish and clam fry.
Can't say enough good things about this place. I only wish it was open year round. Great food, great staff, great service, great atmosphere.
If you ever meet someone who is from or visited the Village of Scotia they'll have been to or heard of Jumpin' Jack's. Why is Jumpin's Jack's such a big deal? Great choices of food so you're sure to find something you like. Next door you can enjoy summer concerts outside at Freedom Park. Across the street is Collins Park with baseball diamonds, tennis, basketball courts, picnic areas, splash park, playground, fishing and so much more. In the rear is the Mohawk River and the home of U.S. Water Ski Show Team.
So good! Food is great, portions are perfect, service is so fast. The long line moves very fast. There is no indoor seating but a good number of picnic tables and a public park across the street. It's not quiet or relaxed due to the crowd but the food is well worth it.
While there are plenty of choices on the menu I went for the double cheeseburger w/slaw and fries . Had to wait in line which is to be expected cause it's well worth it in the end. The staff is great and friendly and serves as fast as they can.
Kind of a Scotia icon, this fast food drive-in has fried fish, shrimp, onion rings, french fries, and hamburgers. Plus the ice cream shop next door has tasty homemade soft serve. There's plenty of parking, and it's across the street from the gorgeous Collins Park. Pick up your lunch and walk across the street to sit by the river and enjoy. The food is tasty, although of course it's awful for you :-) The service is fast and friendly, and the prices are reasonable (it's no tourist trap). There are indoor restrooms attached to the building.
This is what I'm talking about!! COVID friendly (it's allll outside), old school style drive in/walk up joint servin up dank azz burgers, fried seafood, dogs, mad sides, ice cream, fried dough, and Soo much more!! Love the cool old cash register. It's all in the details folks. And it's affordable as all hell. Come here and win the day during summer.
Awesome vibes and food here! Great deal for the quality food. Highly recommend the clam strips, burgers and sausage peppers here! Fries and onion rings are great too, hot and crispy! The staff here is very friendly and they make ya laugh too! Love all the patio tables and the view here. Forever customer here.
U truly can't beat the prices , the park right there for walking along with entertainment & excellent food ! Can't wait super excited to be able to return soon ! Also the best banana 🍌 splits ever!
With 5 girls working patio and not many customers on a Sunday, holiday weekend, the length of time waiting to place our order was very long. Food was great. Atmosphere great.
Honestly really liked this place! The staff was friendly, we got our food quickly, for a easy quick place the food was actually really good and we liked their ice cream a lot! The prices were very fair & honestly pretty cheap for these days, plenty of parking, seating, the area was clean. Would totally go back again!
The food was also the ice cream was also awesome. The atmosphere was incredible. Great shows they put on every once in awhile. Definitely a family friendly place to take your children
A rare drive-in in my area. Food is pretty basic but well executed. The jack burger is probably the most outstanding menu item. Kind of like a big Mac with the triple bun, double thin patty but topped with mustardy, creamy cole slaw. If you add a little ketchup, you get a little of a big Mac sauce vibe, but it's totally it's own thing. They have a couple of fry options as well as onion rings, which I always go for. The ice cream building is also a must when you go here. If you get a shake, always get the large since it's just a few cents more.
The drive in is a local institution with a great history. A hallmark of the speedy service is the shorthand the order takers use to get your order going, be sure to listen for it. The menu is certainly not loaded with healthy alternatives but it is loaded with deliciousness. A well sized fish fry or burger with a side of great onion rings or fries and you've got a perfect setup for the ice cream menu. Save a little time for a stroll along the river, to the park or go on Thursday evening for the water skiing show. All in all a fun, enjoyable experience dining on paper plates at covered picnic tables.
We got ice cream here, it was so good, especially the hot fudge Sunday. Good serving size for the price! Will definitely go again. Easy in and out and friendly staff. Also nice and clean.
Summertime ritual to Jumpin' Jacks Drive In, Scotia, along the Mohawk River, across from Collins Public Park. Once you go, there is no substitute for a Jack's slaw burger, double up on incredibly tasty onion rings, and add a side of slaw. Slog down with LG DR Pepper, hunny you got a meal. Schenectady across the river, near General Electric. A diverse crowd of families, engineers, blue collar, and bums like us. Events, shows, most all summer, w/e very busy.
Great spot to hit during the summer months. I had the Jack Burger which is basically a double cheeseburger with coleslaw which was very good. The onion rings and fried dough are also great. I really enjoyed that they let you put the powered sugar on the fried dough yourself. The ice cream stand is also great. Not everyone has to get food which I like everyone can get whatever they want. With ample covered seating it’s a nice spot even on a cloudy day. Pro tip: make sure to have your order ready and not be the person to slow up the line. They mean business! I can’t wait to go back!
I was back in town and just had to return to old stomping grounds and Jumpin Jack’s is near the top of the list! Great place to meet up with friends or take your family out to. Convenient park right across the street to picnic at. There’s also a cool area to watch water skiing behind Jumpin’ Jack’s. Plenty of parking next to several covered picnic tables. The employees are very friendly and efficient. Give them a tip and they’ll yell out a cheer thanks! 😉 I couldn’t decide what to eat so I got a variety.

I was so excited to finally visit after many summers of saying we’d stop but never making the drive. A forewarning, the place is busy no matter the time of day, but it’s worth the wait! The food was …
Super fun place for the family and dogs. Ignore the no pet signs. Place is very chill and expeditious in their service. Lots of families on this pre-Summer day.
Jumpin Jack's is an old friend that greets us every year. It was rainy (who cares) and the food was just what you should expect. They have been there since 1952 so they know what they are doing! There's live music and water skiing displays posted on their website. Thank you for being there for us every summer ☀️ 😀
Don't get the frozen burgers. The vegetarian burger is good. And fried food (shrimp, fish, tenders) all good.
very good food. served quickly and lots of picnic tables for seating. has gluten friendly items.
This place is more about the feeling and atmosphere than the food. It's pretty mediocre and highly priced. The old school feel with the things for kids to do is worth bringing them here once in a while. If I could recommend anything, get the clam or shrimp fry.
If it was a few years ago I'd have given 5 stars across the board. My family has been eating here for generations. The most recent time I noticed they started having women working there. That was never the case before. The food now tastes different. Despite those two things it's still jacks and I still love it. It's just not the same as it used to be.
Good food but not gourmet. Good view of water and got to see water-skiers practicing. Then saw concert next door . Nice place for a date or family
This place has pretty good food, at least better than what some of the alternative location eateries (such as kfc) offer in terms of quality of taste. While the seating area doesn't necessarily immediately overlook it, this place does sit by a river. This place does offer some variety of foods such as burgers, hot dogs, onion rings, fries.
A staple of Schenectady. Been going here for 32 years and it's kind of nice how it hasn't changed that much. The service is quick and friendly. The food is pretty good at a reasonable price. Great place to take the family. With the park, stage and river nearby there is plenty to enjoy in the summer. No vegan options unless you want a frozen treat. But they do have dairy free and vegetarian options for those that are meatless. I hope they continue to succeed for years to come.
Fast, fun comfort food located in the banks of the Mohawk rivers. Only open during the spring and summer months, you can grab a burger or fried seafood and get icecream as well. They have veggie options too. Old school feel, that’s what I like the most when coming back home as I live out of state now.
Even on a rainy day who can pass up on burgers and a sundae? GF bun is good, burgers are thin order a double. Fries are great! Vegan ice cream was lacking just a bit in flavor. Coffee and chocolate were could barely be tasted. Maybe the soy/oat milk reacts differently with flavoring than cow milk? I would go back, but would probably go with a dole whip instead
Jumpin' Jack's is a sign that warmer times are ahead in the Capital Region. On warm days there's always a line going past the rails, despite these lines it never takes long to order. It's always fun to here the codenames they have for their orders and the loud "SUBWAYYYY!" after you tip and the "THANK YOUUU!" from the kitchen staff. The food is always hot and ready and there's almost never a long wait time for your Jack burger and curly fries. It's always great to cool down with the ice cream and milkshakes next door. Close walk to the park so you can have a nice picnic.
Super busy during the ski shows so plan accordingly. The line is very, very long! They do have good bathrooms though!
It’s all about the experience. I love jumpin jacks! And I personally think the food is DELICIOUS! I highly recommend trying hotdogs, a side of nacho cheese sauce to put on the dogs, and then add a French fry or two to the hotdogs. Sounds weird, but man is it good! Reminds me of being a kid at summer camp. Regardless, all of the food is good, the workers are always friendly, even as the staff has changed over the last few years, and the outdoor, on the water atmosphere is great for summer days.
It's always a good time here. Unfortunately the food wasn't as fresh as usual. I ordered chicken fingers with cheese frys and onion rings. The chicken fingers were dry, as well as the French fries, and the onion rings were extremely hard to eat. The cotton candy and Cheddar popcorn were amazing, though.
Whether you will like Jumpin' Jack's or not will depend on what you're looking for. The best burger in town? No. BUT, surely they boast one of the best atmospheres. Be prepared to shout your order …
Stopped for lunch and ice cream, everything was delicious, service was great and prices were decent, will stop again this summer.

Once a year you have to go to Jump n Jacks for the outdoor experience . When you order they have a way of saying your order. I had the fish sandwich with fries my husband cheese burgers with fries…
This place is more about the nostalgia than anything else. The food is pretty much deep fried or grilled if you want to be slightly healthier. Often like luke warm, and I would give everything on the menu a "just okay" rating of 2/5. For example, I ordered the Jack Burger and was excited because it sounded like their version of a Big Mac. Instead what I got was a small cheeseburger, with an extra layer of bread in the middle, a regular hamburger on top of it, topped with normal coleslaw. No ketchup, no pickles, no Russian dressing or special sauce, not even lettuce and tomato. And it's a shame because it was more expensive than a Big Mac. Seriously though, they could have made this something very special simply by adding an additional slice of cheese, a little bit of Russian dressing, and a pineapple coleslaw - none of which would have taken additional time to prepare. The ice cream however is always a treat for any age, they have some pretty fun flavors, and I would give it a 4/5, bringing the overall rating to 3/5. I also have to mention that during the summer, when there isn't a pandemic going on, Jumpin Jack's will put on a water ski show for the guests, followed by a fireworks display on Friday nights. It's a great place to bring kids, build new memories, and then walk it off in the park across the street. Overall, I think a 3/5 is a fair rating for the restaurant, even considering the pandemic. If they put just a little bit more effort into making their food a cut above stay-at-home BBQ, I think they would be able to bring in new guests who want to build new memories with their families for generations to come.
First time here today. I'm highly disappointed. All frozen food, none was made to order. My fries were hard and onion rings crispy. I'm assuming from sitting under the heater until someone ordered them. I've heard so many great things and it just isn't some place I'd make a day out of again. Prices are good though. Went over to get ice cream and only had 3 options to choose from. Normal chocolate, vanilla, and mixed. Only black raspberry frozen yogurt. Just wasn't what I expected it to be.
Burger was a little bland compared to other places. Definitely a great outdoor eating area and the milkshake and ice cream were excellent. It's definitely worth a second try and will sample something else on the menu.
Place was nice and pack, very popular in the summer. They have nice seating areas. I was not impressed with the food. I have the shrimp dinner and it was not really a wow experience, however their anions rings were very good, definitely recommend that, but everything else was ok.

The food here is not great. It's pretty greasy, but the fries and onion rings remain a favorite. The ice cream and shakes are good. The location on the river is great, but the seating area is dirty. I have been going to Jumpin' Jack's for almost 40 years, and it's getting to be a few visits a summer is enough. Perhaps moving the garbage cans away from the seating area and giving the tables and a good scrub down daily would help.

I went for ice cream. Got a dish of twist, medium size and was charged $10.50. I wonder what a sundae costs. I found this outrageous.

Food has really gone downhill here. The hot dog is disgusting. Used to go years ago and I feel it was much better. Lines are also absurd at busy times. Ice cream is still great.
We visited here on 8/30..it’s been awhile since I had jumping jacks food and it’s the last time! for 3 paper thin unseasoned burgers a dry unseasoned grilled chicken sandwich..like learn how to use some salt and pepper and clean that grill better because tasting everything that’s been cooked on that grill is just nasty it wasn’t worth it oh and the next time yall only have canned soda put a sign up saying that’s all you have so we don’t have to deal with the attitude of the girl serving it! For 3 thin burgers a dry grilled chicken 2 orders of fries and 1 order of onion rings and 4 cokes over 40 dollars not worth it at all!! The ice cream is worth every penny though! And one last thing send your employees to clean the tables more!
Nice crew, but even with 15 people working, they open without cleaning tables, food everywhere from previous day, bees swarming you. The food is not what you come here for. Its atmosphere and nostalgia. When they can’t be bothered to clean prior to opening, the atmosphere is ruined. People come buy it anyway out of habit.
Haven’t been here in a few years. The place has really declined. The food seems tasteless. Family had cheesburgers, chicken tender sandwich, fries and steak sandwich. Everything was subpar and looked old. Didn’t even finish eating it. Ice cream seems to be only saving grace.
The children at the location will not finish their food either. It's pretty bad unless you want a shake or cotton candy. Otherwise get popcorn at Scotia Cinema and burgers at Herbies Burgers or Mr Halal. This place is bad flavorless food lol
I used to love this place I was coming here for years so I decided to come today I noticed it was different people Then usual the reason why I gave them a one star's because my Burger was still red that's never happened before and did even taste right it didn't taste like the usual Jumping Jack's food it was disgusting I'm really upset because I used to always come here now I'll never come here again
Cost me 12.75 for a large watered down lemonade, a small salty cold clam strip served on a hot dog roll and a onion ring with 6 rings. It was over crowded kids running around everywhere it was very very dirty and to top it off you ate under a over pass area where cars were beeping and misbehaved kids were climbing up and parents didn't care....food was awful & expensive outside area only place to eat was filthy. Sign saying NO DOGS but clearly people had dogs....save yourself the trouble and expense skip this or go elsewhere!
Horrible. My dad went in there and got fish the first time everything was fine but when he went in there the second time they were calling him names and indirectly joking w each other and making racist jokes. My dad came in the car and i noticed he looked a bit upset and told us what had happened. Very sad honestly.. so disrespectful we’re never coming in here again.
