Excellent all around, tho I didn't have a drink because I'm diabetic. Service was great and the food was excellent. The waitress said I might have to wait a little longer because the steaks are cooked over a mesquite fire, but it didn't seem any longer than normal. I had the New York Strip. The waitress suggested medium and said something you don't hear very often... "we can always send it back if it's too red." Wow, when was the last time you heard that? No matter, the steak was perfect, juicy, flavorful and tender.
Absolutely outstanding! My wife and I decided to indulge in an early dinner at this establishment, and it surpassed all our expectations. The filet mignon I ordered was undoubtedly the pinnacle of culinary perfection, setting a new standard for excellence. Equally impressive was the ribeye my wife savored, earning high praise from her discerning palate. From the meticulously crafted salads to the delectable sides, every aspect of our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
Great atmosphere and we enjoyed the food, this is a western themed restaurant with live music, you will definitely need reservations, I used red door and showed up a little early and was not able to get seated in the main lounge area with the music but we sat in the bar area and was served right away, our food came fast and we still enjoyed the music and atmosphere. Make reservations tho.
It's best to get here around 7 to 8 PM to have a seat in the dining room. They might send you to the bar for orders in house or to go. Delivery is unavailable at this time. It depends if they're busy or not. This was edited on Mother's Day. 2023 I am also updating the pictures as well. mom says "They have a full bar. she likes the Woodridge white symphondale and the lamb is Delicious With the ment sauce. They also have homemade salad dressing."
We were not expecting a prix-fix menu tonight, but we walked right in and got seated immediately. It smells so good in here! I may update after dinner, but from what I remember, the food is superb. Unforgettable, actually. I'm really pleased to be spending my valentine date at The Steak Out!
The aroma just from the parking lot will have your mouth watering! The very expertly laid out rustic decor will take you back to a simpler time & help you relax into the atmosphere & the display case of freshly cut steaks so professionally cut will keep you there. From the very first friendly greeting offered by the hostess to the welcoming hello of the bussers to the super helpful wait staff offering suggestions for drinks & appetizers you will feel like you're in great-grandmas kitchen. The most pleasant Samantha was our server and we took her very knowledgeable suggestions for Spicy Prickly Pear Margaritas to start and followed that with the most delicate, flavorful onion rings ! The Margarita didn't disappoint & was full of fresh flavor butcwas not overwhelmingly spicy. The entree, which by the way can be split, I had to try the Filet Mignon with a side of a full half of a grilled chicken! The chicken was juicey and grilled to perfection and it was accompanied by a sweet & smoky BBQ sauce. The Filet was wrapped in hardwood smoked bacon & of course, mouthwatering! No need for condiments here ! A fresh salad & baked potato, I ordered mine basic but feel free to try the loaded, and fresh green salad completed the meal selection. There was plenty left to take home only because I ordered enough to feed a football team, lol. They do offer desserts but I was stuffed & had to pass on. Samantha, our server never made us feel hurried but frequently checked to make sure we had what we needed and kept our water glasses full & table clean. I will most definitely be back to this amazing place...if I can muster up the appetite I'll go today, lol. Definitely give this place a try & the very scenic drive makes the experience that much more enjoyable!
We love this restaurant for celebrating my mother in law birthday this weekend specifically for live country music performance for Saturday night made this restaurant feel cozy and family friendly for us personally my daughter can enjoy the meals as well, the view surrounding this restaurant amazing
I visited Steakout again this past weekend, and I’m still dreaming of their food! My husband and I have always loved ordering the Prime rib, but this time, we noticed a change in their menu. They now offer just a straight Prime cut, whereas before, they had options like the Lil Buckaroo, Cowgirl, and Cowboy cuts. While I’m not sure why they made this change, I can confidently say that the cut we received looked just as delicious as what we had enjoyed in the past. Regardless of the new menu format, the Prime rib was absolutely fabulous! The flavor and tenderness were outstanding, making every bite a delight. We always choose to sit at the bar, and the service there is consistently fast and friendly. The bartenders and staff are such wonderful people to chat with, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. If you’re looking for a great meal with a welcoming atmosphere. Especially when they also have kocal wines on the menu to order. If you have not done enough wine tasting, I highly recommend heading over to Steakout!
It's been 19 years since I've been here last. It's always been the number one steakhouse in my eyes and it still is! The simple things like there ranch fries are probably the best fries I've ever had steak is amazing The burgers are cooked to perfection. What can I say all around amazing steakhouse!
Live music on a Friday night! Great atmosphere with friendly staff. This restaurant is the perfect example of just being good at a few select items. They don't fill their menu with useless choices. If you want a steak and/or with traditional sides, then this is your place. Perfect southwestern Arizona representation for people visiting from out of town. Bring your out-of-town visitors and enjoy a nice southwestern dining experience.
Finally tried this place after years of talking about it. We loved the look of the place inside. Very western looking. When we walked in, we smelled the smoke they use for cooking. Smelled great! Our server was excellent, funny, and attentive. The salad was very fresh and delicious. Onion rings and mushrooms were delicious. Potato wedges (fries) were excellent. But the STEAKS! The steaks were out of this world. Excellent flavor! The T-bone seems to be the best value. Is was so good. We can't wait to go back and try the prime rib on a weekend. No complaints. Everything was excellent.
If you haven't been your missing ojt its authentic and ive been going since I was a kid ! BBQ chicken is amazing steaks are on point ! And service is just how u like it! Old sonoita is a place of sheer beauty and wildlife go eat and cruise the back roads and enjoy the vineyards and majestic wildlife! Dont take my word for it !
The Stakeout has helpful and accommodating staff. My group arrived earlier than the reservation, the front of house staff managed to get us a table with no hesitation. The waitress was friendly and provided good recommendations from the menu. The ribeye steak I received was prepared to my liking, not overly salty and there was more meat than fat. The loaded baked potatoe was wrapped in foil, and came with cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits in small cups on the side. The musician played guitar and sang well, able to have a conversation still while playing.
Down here from Phoenix for work. Passed by this place and the smells drew us in. Atmosphere and flavors did not disappoint. Will stop again if we make it this way again.
My favorite steak house in Arizona! I’ve been there a half dozen times, the steaks have always been tender and cooked to perfection! The live music has always been top notch. I took my wife there for our 37th wedding anniversary and will probably make it our tradition. The three hour drive from Phoenix is always worth it!!
Nothing fancy but the food and the service was great. Drove 160miles to eat there.
Fantastic Ribeye cooked perfect delicious house salid and baked potato!!! Nice pleasant staff
Food is great. Price is reasonable. Live entertainment makes an enjoyable evening on the weekend.
Took Mom and friends from Las Vegas Saturday 7/12/25 and couldn’t be happier with the choice! From the Hostesses down to Liz and Zander that took great care of details! My friends and I commented that they are top 3 of the best steaks we have had! Seasoned and grilled to perfection. Definitely be a favorite from now on. Hats off to all involved 👏
The best place in the area to grab a beer and a steak. I had the t-bone. You cant beat the mesquite smoked steaks at this place. Highly recommend.
We had a reservation. There was live music and it was very good. We could still talk during the live music. People were very friendly and it was a very upbeat atmosphere. The food was excellent, and the service was great. I would go again.
If you enjoy a good cut of beef, this is the place for you. Many years of wonderful service to the blinking light oh excuse me.... the four way stop of Sonoita az you won't be disappointed
One of my favorite Steakhouses of all time! Well worth going out of your way for. Sorry no photos...
Honestly I heard great things from other people, went there for the first time and was wowed! Fantastic food and service. If you want a great steak or ribs go here and don't waste your time at Texas road house and any other chain restaurant
Our server was excellent, and very polite. The food came out quickly, and everything was delicious. The atmosphere was very casual and comfortable with a western vibe. It was on a Saturday, so the restaurant had entertainment as well. I definitely will be going back!
This is the best restaurant I have ever been to. And I'm not even a huge steak person. But the atmosphere is so comfortable and relaxing. The staff are so friendly and never anything even close to rude. The simplicity of the menu makes ordering easy, which also isn't a problem since I could get the same thing 100 times over and be happy every time. And I appreciate the smaller steaks sizes available for kids that don't break the bank or force you to pay for a full size steak; and are still excellent. And of course, the flavor of the steak and on point cooking is amazing. The turnaround time to food on you table is consistent and fast no matter how busy it is. I've been to multiple up to $100 plate steak houses in New York city and Boston, and this one beats them all by a mile. I literally can't even bother to go to another steak house anymore, I love this place with all my heart every single time. Thank you so much to all the staff, please never change.
This restaurant is lovely, definitely a hidden gem. The lighting is prefect and the food is amazing. It's nice to see the chefs cooking and our waiter was so kind. For only being open for a couple hours a day they are fantastic!! This is one of the places you hope doesn't ever change
Overall, I would recommend in the area. We ordered a ribeye and got the added side plate and baked for an additional 8.00. The house dressing is great! The ribeye was 16oz and big enough to split. When our salad hit the table I asked to order a bread basket. We were not told when we sat down the restaurant was out of bread! On new years day! Bad ordering on the chefs part. Service was adequate, and as a first timer not memorable. As an industry professional, I tend to judge table service harder. No real upsell on desserts. I asked to hear them and was delighted with bailey mousse cake. The salad is lackluster with no mixed greens or red onion. The croutons are ridiculously huge. This was a gift from friends who just love the place. I will say it's very good, but not excellent for the price, and I am not cheap. Also, they carry no merlots.
Best Steak I’ve Ever Had! The Steak Out Steakhouse in Sonoita is absolutely worth every penny! The steaks were cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and truly some of the best I’ve ever had. Yes, the prices are on the higher side, but the quality, taste, and overall experience make it completely worth it. The atmosphere was great, the service was friendly, and it’s the perfect spot for a special night out. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Great steak!! Had the Porterhouse and it was divine. The strip side was very tender while the filet side melted on your tongue. Very well seasoned and cooked over mesquite to make that beef flavor pop. Little spendy, but price of beef is ridiculous right now, so whatcha gonna do? We went early to avoid the crowds, but there's live music later on if that's your thing. Second time we've eaten at this little gem and we planned our entire Saturday around eating here! More activities coming soon! 😉 🥩 🔥
I can't wait to return to this steakhouse, it is my favorite. I can't say enough good things about the atmosphere, the menu, the food, the service, & Krystal was very nice. It was very impressive how smoothly they operated through a rush, & with live music. Lucky find!
Steaks are awesome. Service was great. Had a two person music group playing on Saturday night and some were dancing after dinner. As we were finishing up our drinks and dessert in the bar area they started mopping up the restaurant area and it kinda ruined things with the smell of disinfectant...
So surprised to find such a lovely steak house in such a small town. This place was amazing. We stayed in Sonoita 3 nights, ate there twice! The entire town is very welcoming. 😃
Great steak, at least for us. The t-bone we had rivals anything we have had at the pricy steak restaurants in the Phoenix area. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. The music was a bit loud if you wanted to be able to chat at your table in the main room, but they were accommodating and sat us in the back room. I'll be sure to eat here again on my next trip to the Sonoita wineries.
Great Steakhouse and only restaurant worth visiting in Sonoita. The staff is friendly and the prices are decent. The food has always been spot on. Almost always VERY crowded with tourists on the weekend and the parking lot is an absolute disaster when that's the case.
Fantastic service with Toni B! Band was playing but was offered a table in a quieter back room. Very popular spot! Great burger, well prepared filet!
The food was amazing. The steak was cooked perfection. The sides were hot and fresh. Highly recommend
Loved this place and the Filet Mignon was amazing, cooked to Medium Rare perfection. Also a good selection of adult beverages. It's an excellent place to eat that I will absolutely be returning to.
Delicioso 👌
This was my first visit to The Steak Out Restaurant and I will definitely return. The steak literally melted in my mouth and was delicious. The lamb chops were also delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere was awesome. I'm not eating carbs right now so they made me some sautéed veggies instead of a potato or beans. I would recommend this place for everyone.
Great experience here! I got the Steak Out Burger....cook did an excellent job. There was a nice charbroiled crisp on the outside and tender medium rare inside. I was a happy camper! Bartender, she heard me when I said a lot of REAL butter for the baked potato. Just enough to take the edge off!😉 Appreciate these things! Thank Q. BTW.....#BlessingsFromBen
WE had a very large group. The fried mushrooms were obviously hand breaded and not sysco slop. The salad was good and the quality of the lettuce was surprisingly good. My wife had the Ribeye I had the Prime Rib, both medium rare. Excellent quality cut an honest 16 oz. The grill flame kissed all the fatty parts, the flavoring was good, the au jus was excellent, the horseraddish tasted fresh and did not look like it was from a bottle. The "fries" were actually massive nicely fried JoJos very good. Excellent service, drink always full, very attentive even with a large group. ribeyes was $45 and Prime Rib was $55 however there were options that were less than $20 a plate which is nothing anymore.
Very nice place inside. The steaks are huge. My wife and I shared a t bone, for $8 you get an extra salad and side dish. Great idea. The steak was cooked just like we ordered and had a terrific seasoning. We really enjoyed our dinner here.
Went on my birthday which happened to fall on a Monday. I was amped up to have Prime Rib and was sadly disappointed when they told me they only do Prime Rib on the weekends. That was my fault for not checking! Ended up with the Filet Minon which was AMAZING as well. They ran out of the wine I was drinking but waitress made it right and got me a glass just as comparable to the one I started with. Was also presented with a slice of the yimmiest chocolate cake for everyone to share! We love The Steakout and will be back...on a weekend....for Prime Rib! 😁
We love going to the Steak Out. We have friends that recommended going. We went came here a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday for the first time and the food and service was outstanding!!!. We went again Friday night to see Johnny & Jack who were there from 6 to 9. We love to see them performing also. It was a perfect night. Outstanding food from the Steak Out and enjoying listening to Johnny & Jack. I recommend The Steak Out as the best Steak place to eat and if Johnny & Jack are there, your evening is better.
Rustic, Cowboy, no thrills or chills, just come hungry, great tasting steaks and fixings! The wait staff isn't messing around! No small talk! Drink order then straight to food order! No time wasted! They know how to get to the point and get you your order. One bothersome issue on this visit. A dirty glass for the iced tea. Not a big issue, it happens. What was the issue? A youngster working as a busboy/helper walked by and we asked for a new glass. He did NOT want to stop and help and we got that look like "You're bothering me!" He did get us a new tea and clean glass and surprisingly his attitude changed for the better for the rest of the evening. Not sure why but it was nice to see for a change. Maybe some self-evaluation. We always give our Servers a chance to get a second chance. We had no idea what he may have went through right before we stopped him. The evening turned out spectacular! Will be back on our next trip down South of Tucson!
We were in town on a Tuesday night, when almost none of the Elgin/Sonoita restaurants are open, and we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food was at Steak Out. We sat on the enclosed patio and enjoyed good service and a nice meal of mesquite-grilled chicken and pork loin. Good selection of local wines too!
The Steak Out has a long & grand reputation in Sonoita. It features a true mesquite fired grill with care taken for your personal preferences. Only high quality meats are served in an authentic Western atmosphere. Local and domestic wines are available. Live music is also played at certain days/times.
This my second time visiting The Steak Out, last year and now 2018. My friends and I went to a Wine Festival. After the festival we headed to the Steak Out since we were staying at the Sonoita Inn, right next door. Food has been excellent! Second time ordering their burger and they cook it to perfection! 👌 I asked for Medium and got it just like I ordered it. After our dinner we moved to their pool tables area. We're about 6 girls total, ready to drink and have a good time. 🍻 Disappointed for the second time with our bar service. They would take forever to turn around and ask us if we needed more drinks. We would have to stand at the bar trying to get the bartender's attention. Not sure if they understood that we were there to drink! Since we didn't have to drive back to our hotel, we were ready for a long night. The more drinks, the better the tip! Right?!? Too bad, we ended up closing our tab and head back to the hotel where we had some beers and wine. I'm sure we'll give it a try next year. Food...amazing!! Service at the bar...so so!
The steaks were perfectly cooked and generous. The beef had good flavor. The sides were OK, but it would have been nice to have more options available. The service was good, but the waitress was very busy and made some mistakes with the check that were fixed. The atmosphere was authentic old west. Would eat there again.
Spent the weekend with my girlfriend in Sonoita. Our accommodations were next door at the Sonoita Inn and steak sounded good to both of us. I hadn’t been back to The Steak Out since 2005, but my recollection is that it was quite expensive. And I can confirm that indeed, it is still the case. The atmosphere is pleasant. A low-light setting. Some fellow playing country tunes on his guitar. My girlfriend ordered the Ribeye cooked rare. I had the T-Bone, medium rare. Mine was cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. She confided that hers was rather sinewy and tough. I had two glasses of the house cab; she had a cocktail. Bill total came to $110.77. Add tip for a grand total of $132 or $66 per person. The hostesses were great, service was less than: a bit slow, not very engaging and seemed disinterested. My recommendation — if you’re gonna drop that kinda coin on steaks, don’t waste your money on a steak you’re gonna be disappointed with — just go ahead and get the Filet Mignon. It’s as thick or thicker than the filet portion of the Porterhouse, and certainly much thicker, larger than that of the T-Bone and it’s all “knife through butter” tenderness.
Food was good just could have used a little seasoning (had filet mignon).
Kind of out of the way, its in Sonoita,Az. about 40 mi. S of I 10. Food was tasty. I had the ribeye, it had less fat than comparable steaks that I've had.I had the beans with it. Also comes with a community salad with ranch dressing which was good as I normally don't use ranch. All in all, it was a pleasent experience. They even had a couple musisans performing.
Restaurant familiar, limpio, carnes frescas. Empleados amables.
Pleasantly surprised. The place need a cleaning especially the taxidermy everywhere cover in cob webs and cracking. Did not have high hopes from the 1st impression. Waitress came to the table to get drink orders and couldn't seem to wait 2 minutes to actually take the order and walked away while asking a question. Once order was taken though the food was quick, good proportion for price. Steak still blue when came to the table but better under than over. Will try again if around.
Mother's Day lunch. We had a party of 6, 18% gratuity, which we understood for those NON tippers. We spent over $300 and we were friends from outta town that met. Being Mother's Day one couple picked up a special dessert, then was told there would be a $2 plate fee pp, as they are losing revenue. Too bad we all usually tip over 20%, but with no dessert available from them, we all felt the 18% was sufficient. Let them lose revenue!!! Obviously, whomever answered ME did not read my review correctly. I stated WE understand the automatic 18% gratuity!!! Our server was good. We asked at the front desk and was told there was no dessert that day, it is not always available!
$168 birthday dinner ruined. I don’t know what was going on there tonight, but we took my daughter for a birthday dinner and got there EARLY so the cooks wouldn’t be overwhelmed… She had her heart set on a steak all week which is something she rarely gets to have. She ordered it medium-well and it came floating in blood on her plate! She politely if it could be cooked more— and it came back burned on the outside, and red on the inside. The waiter was sweet and we tipped him well, the rest of the food was good, but why did the one thing we came for get ruined? And is it okay to take food someone ate from, and cook it where food for other people is getting cooked? They should have started over and did it right. I guess my dogs will enjoy it though.
We have been there twice. The first time we sat in the bar area. The service was amazing. The server was extremely busy with the bar and other dinner guest, but she made time to make sure we were well served and always taken care of. We raved about this place to our close friends and decided to take them to dinner ... This time we got a reservation and sat at a dinner table. The service was sub par which really depleted the whole dining experience... The food was still amazing ....but when you have to get up and go get your own refills it takes away from the experience. The waitress had an attitude on her shoulders from the first greeting. You could tell things were very inconvenient for her. We will definitely be back ..cuz like I said the food is amazing ....just hopefully have a different server.
Comida buena...sobrevalorado..le queda la fama.
We ordered Burgers. Instead of medium they served them well done, actually even partially burnt burger meat. Quite a disappointment for a location with such good ratings.
Overpriced and completely unprofessional. One person in our group was treated in a way that felt personal. She clearly ordered her meat medium-well, no blood, with mushrooms. What arrived was bloody and missing the vegetables entirely. This is not a small mistake — it shows a total lack of attention and respect. Her tea arrived 15 minutes late, and her food was brought out after everyone else at the table had already finished eating, which was humiliating and unacceptable. Another order, a T-bone steak, was full of gristle (pellejos), poorly cooked, and clearly not prepared by a competent chef, especially for a restaurant charging these prices. For what they charge, we expected professionalism, basic competence, and respectful treatment. We received none of that. We will not be returning.
There is absolutely no reason a chicken entree, 3 burgers and a glass of wine should cost $200 their prices in restaurant are at least $10 more than advertised on their site. They are price gouging and the food didn’t even come out correctly. So very disappointing. Would never recommend. Update to respond; unfortunately my partner doesn’t have the receipt still but I wouldn’t be posting a review if I wasn’t appalled by what we paid. Our burgers were over cooked, the 3/4 lb was the same size as the wrangler, they forgot the mushrooms on one burger then came back and changed me for a full mushroom side that was priced more than what the menu said. Again this was our experience and we will not be recommending this experience on anyone else.
I’ve been driving down from Phoenix (twice per year) since 1995 eating at the original and rebuilt Steak Out. Something has drastically changed at this restaurant. The service was terrible, the server was rude, and the steaks were basically not edible due to being tougher than a bull hide boot. It is obvious the owners who ran a great establishment are no longer involved. I strongly suggest one drive on by, and certainly no more special trips to the Steak Out!!!
