I had dinner at Chicken in a Barrel and really enjoyed the experience. Parking was free and easy to find, which was a nice bonus. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the BBQ was solid. We ordered the sampler plate, which was perfect for trying a variety of meats—chicken, pork, and ribs—and everything was flavorful. Their BBQ sauce stood out as especially good. They also had a great selection of beers, and live music was playing during dinner, which added to the atmosphere. Overall, I definitely recommend it.

Pretty good barbecue, better than I expected for being in such a touristy location. The chicken and ribs were both good. I dont feel like the prices are too bad given it’s a barbecue restaurant in a tourist location. Would recommend.

During a Sunday drive, we came upon the Chicken in a Barrel BBQ in South Shore Lake Tahoe. Being adventurous, we stopped for lunch. It is the standard, menu on the wall, order at the counter get a number and the food will be delivered to your table. The interior was clean and very open. We decided to sit near the TV and watched the NFL game. What was a surprise to me was that there were beer spigots on the wall. I asked about that and was told it is a pour your own. If you order beer, you will have to provide payment and a valid ID. Then you are given a bracelet (a lack of a better term) that activated the spigot. You get the amount of beer you pay for by the ounce. First time I have seen this. We ordered burgers, one with fries and one with onion rings. Both burgers were very good. The fries were crispy. The onion rings were a bit doughy and hard crusted. Maybe a bad batch? Overall a good experience and will return if in the area.

Super loud music. Luckily I had my new iPod pro’s with noise cancellation. Ahhh… but I’m an old dude. Maybe for the younger crowd it would be ok. Prices are a little on the high side, but portions were generous.

Support family owned, local businesses! What a great place. Came around 8 pm and met Don the owner who guided me with recommendations. Cycled there (bike racks located conveniently in the front) but asked what would be good to pack in a small carrier I had on. Ordered the beef brisket grilled cheese sandwich with pepper jack cheese and two orders of their macaroni salad. They accept touchless pay, tipping optional. I mentioned I was going across to the market to grab my food and he offered to place the order in a bin that keeps the meal warm until I got back. The place is super cool. They have plenty of indoor seating that opens up to an outdoor seating. This isn’t your average grilled cheese either, it was heartily sized for adults. They have signature bbq sauces at their condiment station, plenty of parking.

Open dining with inside and outside seating. Place your order and loosen your pants. Delicious spicy beans, ribs, pulled pork...the coleslaw is a dry toss with hints of cilantro. So good. Bring your bank.

Pretty solid baby back ribs, though a tad on the salty side and the meat wasn't fall-off-the-bone tender. The ribs were super meaty though and plenty filling. You get 5 ribs in a platter. The pricing was very reasonable for Tahoe. The fries were good. Unfortunately, they were out of chili when I ordered. They also have a large draft beer selection.

The meat was what you want- the sides are probably not what you want. My partner and I both enjoyed the meat portions of our plates, but the “chili”? and rice were Meh. The cornbread was so dry that we ended up tossing it. Too bad since it literally just came out of the oven. I think if they had some honey or butter to offer, it would have made it so you could swallow it. They only had 1 BBQ sauce option that I saw. The gal on the register was really sweet, she said something about going to school to be an EMT, or that being her other job. I thought, that’s such a great person to have on staff in case some kind of medical emergency were to happen. The customer service was definitely on point.

We went here for an early dinner and ordered the following: Chicken and Rib Plate Pulled Pork Plate Total: $57.94 + Tips While we didn’t wait long, we thought that the pulled pork did not so much flavour from the meat itself the same for the rib. The chicken had more flavour than the two but it can be too overpowering. And a good portion for each meal we ordered. Overall, we were okay with the food, service, and atmosphere.

I was excited because I thought it was going to be your normal staples of BBQ side dishes so when I ordered I just did something basic because I didn't want brown rice or chili beans. The pull pork sandwich was okay.. most of the flavor was from the BBQ sauce. The asthetics of the place were nice, service good food okay.

Stopped by Chicken In A Barrel for a late lunch. We ordered a Po Boy Sandwich with shredded pork ($10.00) and seasoned fries ($3.50) for takeout. The sandwich was tasty and the fries was seasoned and crunchy. Lots of seats inside and some outside. There weren't anyone there when we were there. Probably due to the off season (early May). Okay place for BBQ sandwiches. - May 2025

I’m not into medium rare chicken. Sent it back, got one exactly the same. Service was good. Fries were good.
