Two visits for the Sunday roast recently and you'll struggle to find a better value one, cooked to such a high standard than here. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is something too. Service on both occasions was outstanding. They are dog friendly and patient with our four legged friends. Incredible view. I've had wonderful fellow dinners too with great conversation. I can't speak more highly of a restaurant that seem to be getting everything right. Thank you. Can't wait to eat with you again this winter.
Love love love this place. Did a bit of research for dinner and narrowed it down to a few. Ordered a selection of starters to share and a main each. Quality, presentation and flavours- outstanding. Exceeded all our expectations. Would definitely recommend, this is a lovely place, attentive, polite and efficient staff. Clean restaurant, great vibes, view isn’t bad. What more could you ask for. Quality is never cheap and this place is so worth it.
Perfect for my wife and I's first night in St. Ives, Porthminster Kitchen came recommended. It's up a flight of stairs in and old building right on the sea, every table has great views, though you might ask about one of the tables on the terrace for the full experience. Menu focuses on local food, from the potatoes to the fresh caught local fish. Service is excellent, effortlessly casual but highly efficient helpful and knowledgeable. We ordered the catch of the day, hake in this case. Perfectly cooked, juicy but firm. Well seasoned, with a beautiful sauce. My wife ordered the sole, she was up for the adventure of the whole fish. Also expertly prepared and tasty. The roasted Cornish mids (a kind of new potato, picked mid season) were cooked perfectly and richly seasoned. The menu also had a shockingly good selection of non alcoholic drinks, the best we've seen in England this trip. Can't go wrong with St Ives, and you can't go wrong with Porthminster Kitchen. Well done!
Excellent food and atmosphere. We were a party of 3 and each had a different starter, main and dessert. Each of them was fabulous. Thanks to Scarlet, who looked after us, for her attentive service - we thoroughly enjoyed chatting to her. Whilst everything was delicious, I can highly recommend the rice pudding spring roll - I’m not a dessert eater usually but this was stunning.
Four of us booked this in advance for our holiday to Cornwall. We were so looking forward to this dinner, and I have to say it was amazing! The seafood was incredibly fresh and tasty. I don’t think we’ve ever had such good seafood, and some of us come from Sicily! The staff were so nice, attentive, and enthusiastic about their work. We loved everything! The pictures don’t do it justice! Shout out to Lucy/Lucie for taking good care of us 🩵 also to the kitchen staff for such good food and amazing food presentation!! 🤌🏼 Thank you all for your hospitality!
We where sat on the terrace and in the sunshine it is just beautiful, the harbour is the perfect backdrop for a delish meal plus it's nice to watch the world go by. I had a bloody Mary, which was just the right amount of spice. I had the pasta and my partner had the whole fried fish, both dishes where beautifully presented and tasted amazing. It is on the expensive side but perfect for a special occasion
For seafood, this place was top on my list of places to visit in Cornwall. Unfortunately, they did not have any availability in the evenings that we wanted to visit during the Bank Holiday weekend. I think we tried to book a week in advance. We really wanted to try this place so we booked for lunch instead. This restaurant is on the first floor above a shop. There are some steep stairs to climb before you get here. The view from restaurant was lovely. You get to see out onto the beach. We would have loved to sit in the outside, but we had 8 people, so I doubt we would have fitted there and there were about 3/4 tables there(?). The food was so good that we ended up being so full! We were the first to arrive when they opened and people started filling up the place quickly. I can hear them turning people away who didn’t have a booking. I loved the seafood linguine, so fresh and such a good portion. I had to share a bit with my husband as I didn’t want so much for lunch. If I was able to book for dinner, we would have tried more food. I shared the squid starter, burrata salad, linguine and side salad with my husband. The sauce for the squid was so good, it was sweet with a touch of citrus. The price is higher here, but it is expected since there is a lot of seafood. Service was good too, the waiter was helpful and we had a good conversation. There was a 12.5% service charge, so the total came just under £250, which was not bad! We thought it would be much more, maybe if it was for dinner it would have been more. I would recommend this place for the seafood linguine. There were a few other dishes we would have loved to try. So if I came back, I would love to visit this place again.
While exploring St. Ives Harbour, after a Googling for sea food place, we stumbled upon a hidden gem: Porthminster Kitchen. This charming restaurant, though not immediately noticeable, offers a delightful culinary experience. The restaurant's interior is modern with a beautiful designed old wood frammed fireplace that creates a relaxed dining atmosphere. However, the entrance to the second floor dining area could be better marked to attract more guests. Food: The menu at Porthminster Kitchen features a creative and diverse selection of dishes. We started with the Korean Fried Cauliflower and a custom salad, both beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. For our mains, we had the Roasted Hake Fillet and the Whole Cornish Sole, which were cooked to perfection and showcased the freshness of the ingredients. To finish, the Crispy Rice Pudin with Coconut Sorbet was a delightful and refreshing dessert, particularly appealing to vegan and gluten-free diners. Service: The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and made recommendations based on our preferences. We highly recommend!! Yummy 😋🤤
Really quiet and welcoming restaurant right on the harbour, with a nice view across the water. The service was friendly and fast. The food was delicious and the seafood fresh. We had fish and chips (gluten-free), the catch of the day, seafood linguine, and the monkfish curry. I also got tenderstem broccoli as a side, they were crunchy and well seasoned. We only ordered soft drinks and a couple of beers, and it came to almost £40 each. I’d really recommend the place!
A group of us had an exceptional meal at Porthminster Kitchen during a long weekend in St Ives. I don’t think I’ve eaten better seafood at a restaurant. I had the scallops to start followed by the catch of the day, which I believe was halibut. The cooking and presentation were perfect, although two scallops was a little disappointing for the price (I didn’t know my father-in-law was paying at that point!). I’d have ordered the mussels instead if I’d known. That aside, I couldn’t fault a thing. A very special restaurant.
We had a fantastic lunch at Porthminster Kitchen in St. Ives. The location is unbeatable - right on the harbour with stunning views across the water. We were lucky to get a table on the terrace without a booking, and the view was absolutely breathtaking. It does get busy, so it’s worth arriving early or booking ahead if you can. The atmosphere was lovely - clean, relaxed, and welcoming, with a modern coastal vibe that suits the location perfectly. Service was fast and friendly. The food was outstanding - fresh, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. I had the sea bream with an Asian twist, and it was incredibly tasty and well-balanced. My partner went for the steak sandwich and absolutely loved it. There’s also a good selection of drinks, and I really enjoyed a glass of local Cornish cider. Prices are on the higher side, but that’s expected in St Ives - and honestly, the quality, setting, and service make it well worth it. A brilliant spot for lunch or dinner with a view - highly recommend!
BEST CHOWDER EVER This is probably the best seafood chowder we have ever had and we’ve eaten at over 20 Michelin star restaurants worldwide. Tasty, full of fish, Imaginative with lots of shellfish, and a beautifully cooked piece of cod with crispy skin on the top. Cooked today by chef Michael Best £20 lunch meal I’ve had in months. The view is amazing and the service faultless MUST GO TO IN ST IVES
I had a lovely birthday dinner at Porthminster Kitchen. I ordered the half lobster and crispy squid, both delicious. The staff were incredibly kind and accommodating. I arrived around 3:45 PM, but most restaurants don’t serve lunches after 3 PM. I returned at 5:30 PM for dinner and was pleasantly surprised to find a table available.
Definitely a 5-star experience. This restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way. Each dish is boldly crafted by a chef with a deep understanding of flavor balance. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the use of lemon elevates the dishes beautifully. The service is warm and welcoming—our server made us feel right at home. I started with the mussels, which were rich and creamy, yet well-balanced. The accompanying bread was a perfect match. I also recommend the linguine—it had a subtle Asian twist with wonderful crab flavors. The curry dish was an interesting interpretation of South Asian cuisine; I appreciated the creative use of sesame, though the rice was slightly overcooked for my taste. Overall, I highly recommended the place - especially impressive for a sightseeing town like St Ives.
We recently stumbled upon a true gem by the harbour in St. Ives, and it turned out to be the perfect place for dinner on my friend's birthday. From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by the lovely ambiance. The food was an absolute highlight – each dish was bursting with incredible flavours. We savoured the delicate scallops, the rich seafood linguine, the perfectly cooked roasted hake fillet and a lovely desert. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. this place is a must-visit!
Porthminster Kitchen serves the best fish and chips. The batter is light and crispy and the fish is fresh and falls away when I’ll cut into it. The chips are lovely and crisp too. The bread served with olive oil and Modena is beautiful. Staff are lovey and the atmosphere is quiet and beautifully furnished.
I had a lovely solo dining experience at Porthminster Kitchen. While the veggie options were limited, the food I had was really nice. The garlic bread with the soup of the day was delicious. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the waitress made sure I was well taken care of. The view of the beach was incredible, and the warm, cozy atmosphere with the fireplace made it a perfect spot to enjoy a meal on my own. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend if you're looking for a relaxed setting with great views and tasty food.
Well worth visiting. Stairs to a first floor. We sat on the balcony, giving us a terrific view of the harbour, albeit that comes with the usual seagull dangers. Staff were pleasant. Food was good. Given a 4 due to the greens being undercooked and inedible. Would recommend.
This restaurant is off the charts for quality of food and adventurous cuisine. We spent 10 days in Cornwall in the winter (for work reasons) and ended up going three times because it was that good! You will enjoy the Asian-influenced flavours combined with contemporary western cuisine. We tried essentially the whole range of small dishes some of the large dishes and all the desserts. Everything is just perfect and contains little surprises that you don’t expect to experience. The price is reasonable for the quality that in my view is at the very top of what you can eat in the UK
Fabulous experience! Fish and chips / steak sandwich were both fantastic. The triple cooked chips were out of this world. The service was phenomenal - massive shout out to Jasmine who was so friendly and made the experience one to remember.
Really wonderful food and excellent views. We had some oysters, pate, scallops, lobster and for dessert, crème brûlée and baked rice. All was really great and their wine list is excellent too. We brought our dog and she had her own space too. The service was ok but not great. We had to ask repeatedly to order food and also extra drinks, which was a little off putting.
Fantastic meal, recommend the pork belly, prawn and bacon starter. Wonderful views with even better food. Dog friendly.
Fantastic service. Delicious food. Amazing ambiance. Visited this wonderful spot on a glorious day in Cornwall for my friends birthday. Highly recommended with a fantastic view of the harbour at sunset. The seafood curry, the pork scallop and the friendly waitstaff were amongst our highlights.
Our second time here and its every bit as good as the first. Delicious food, good wine and a wonderful view too. Thank you for being so accommodating with my gluten and dairy free intolerance, much appreciated desert was a real bonus!
Just had an amazing dinner here. The food was lovely, staff polite and efficient. We will be back. PS the deep fried bass was amazeballs
Celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary here :) The food was scrumptious. Services were impressive. Noted on our reservation that it's for our anniversary and the woman who served us congratulated us. Didn't expect anyone would take notice of the note I added on our reservation. This simple gesture made our dinner more special. Thank you. 😊
We loved it. Very fast and efficient service. Beautifully presented food, interesting menu, all was absolutely delicious. We read in many reviews that the place is overpriced - would disagree. For this quality it is acceptable. Would come again.
I can’t even begin to describe how fantastic my experience was dining here. From the starters all through to dessert, each meal was carefully crafted and cooked to perfection. The staff were incredibly friendly and made us feel so welcome. A perfect way to celebrate mine and my partner’s birthdays!
From walking in to leaving brilliant service and atmosphere. Food was perfectly prepared with an unusual but delicious desert of a deconstructed banana cheesecake. A wonderful selection of wine, starters and mains. Will be visiting again!
Delicious fresh local seafood, stunning view over the bay, and friendly fast service. Love this place.
Delicious food, very nice service and great view. Highly recommend. We booked in advance and asked for table by the window and we had incredibly tasty lunch with bay view. Sauces, ingredients, everything was beautiful
Best meal we had in St Ives. The scallop with the pork and the sauce is perfect, good combination between flavours and texture. The mussels are huge and fresh, my partner loved it. The linguine full of flavours, portion is a bit small, but that’s okay saves us some room for desert. Chocolate brownie is too rich for me but if you love chocolate definitely go for it. The Strawberry and pistachio parfait, very refreshing , a perfect ending for our dinner. On top of everything, great customer service as well. We’ll definitely come back for more before we leave St Ives.
We had a lovely meal here, both having 2 courses and sharing a desert. The scallops were delicious and The Hake was good. The mackerel pate was fantastic and the seafood linguine was a generous portion with lots of fresh prawns and crab meat. We also had a bottle of white Picpoul with was always topped up by the lovely waitress. Truly a very special visit and I would love to sit outside during the summer months as the view is incredible! Highly recommend.
It is still February and yet we sat on the balcony with the sun on our faces with the best view of St. Ives Harbour. The service was perfect - attentive but not pushy. Our lunch was just great. The mussels were delicious, the squid was absolutely superb and probably some of the best ever tasted... the dip was sensational. Our mains were also super. The chowder was full of fish and seriously tasty, the steak sandwich was great and the chips were perfection! Sauv blanc and riesling by the glass served at perfect temperature. We will definitely be back and just hope that the sun will be shining... we know the food and service will be!
Had the most delicious meal here, it was so so nice and the service was fantastic. We were lucky enough to sit on the balcony in the sunshine and it was absolutely perfect. The food was so tasty and fresh - 100% recommend! Excellent food and excellent service!
A very nice place and worth the money. I tad more the other restaurants around St. Ives but you get the quality back! Very good service and a friendly place with good views of the harbour. I would recommend for a meal if you are in the area.
Came with friends on Sunday 7th December for a roast. Omg it was absolutely delicious. Plenty of veg. Excellent value for money. Friendly staff. Good service. Can't wait to return again. Would definitely recommend! Thankyou to the Amazing Chef and his team.
Had lunch here of fish and chips. The food was delicious, and the fish tasted so fresh. It was a great view over the harbour even though I sat inside. The atmosphere was great and the music was not too loud. The only grumble I had was that the service charge added to the bill was not explained to me that I could ask to have it removed. Plus, I asked for a small sparkling water and was charged a different price from what I was told by the server.
Lovely quiet spot in the heart of St Ives, would recommend. Food was 4/5. We had the oysters, it was fresh, however, we would much prefer to add the toppings ourselves as we find the ponzu and shallots were overpowering the natural flavour of the oysters. We had fried squid as our starter, light and crispy battered squid with refreshing salad. I had the fish and chips and they were good. Light and crispy batter. Chips were fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the outside. My partner had seafood linguine and it was a bit too salty. Desert was disappointing. We had the sticky toffee pudding, the pudding itself was dry on the inside. There wasn’t enough toffee sauce provided.
Better than I expected — I came in a bit hesitant, worried it might be a typical tourist trap, but I was pleasantly surprised. The starter, a slow-cooked pork belly, is a pleasant surprise — tender, flavorful, and elevated by a thoughtful pairing of shredded apple and a smooth apple sauce . The scallops, fresh and delicately seared, are complemented beautifully by a hint of seaweed. The seafood linguini was another highlight. Instead of the usual heavy, creamy or tomato-based sauces, it came with a refreshing, sour twist (Thai inspired ?) that made it light and vibrant — a creative and welcome surprise. To finish, the Baileys crème brûlée was a perfect touch — smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet. In short, the food quality is genuinely good, and the kitchen clearly puts effort into creativity and flavor. Service was excellent throughout. All the waitresses were friendly, helpful, and always had a smile.
Lovely restaurant with amazing staff and great food. The restaurant has a great view and amazing ambiance. I loved how courteous and warm their staff was. The food was really nice. Though we tried very limited options but we liked them all. We tried the seared scallops in appetizers. It was my favourite dish out of the lot. In mains we ordered the PK vegetable curry and the Korean cauliflower. I liked the PK vegetable curry more. The dessert was crispy rice pudding and it was just amazing. This restaurant has my personal recommendation.
If you are a lobster enthusiast, this place won’t let you down. I quite like the idea of adding crab sprinkles in the seafood linguine. But the rest of the part you can definitely find a more luxurious and affordable alternative in St Ives.
First, the positives. Lovely venue, and the sole was nicely cooked. The olives as the aperitif were nice. Then, unfortunately, the less positives…. The server took our order, came back a few minutes later to check one of the mains (and got it wrong), asked if we wanted the olives with the starter or first (first, obviously); after the olives, one starter (pardon pepper, not crispy or salty, rather floppy and not how this dish should be) arrived on its own. Questioned the lack of the other starter; in due course, server revisited, lack of 2nd starter prompted again, was told it’s coming. Then, mains arrived. Surprise expressed, as 2nd starter still anticipated. They offered to bring it at same time as the main (so letting the just cooked sole go cold??). Or after the main…. The sole was good; the other main, seafood curry, was in a rather sweet sauce, American style, which detracted from it somewhat. The server (a new one, from delivery of the mains, who in fairness was much better than the first one) was somewhat disappointed that the automatically added discretionary 12.5% service charge was challenged!
