Can’t say enough good things about this place. We came in for Saturday brunch around 10am. We were worried it would be full as there were no reservations available, but there was plenty of room at the bar. It must have been fate because we met John the bartender who was absolutely phenomenal. Totally personable and could tell he really cared about people. Everyone that came in knew him and he knew them back. It was so cool to see. Food was fresh and very delicious. Building was historic and we left feeling so full and happy. We were visiting from out of town but will def be back!
If you are following my reviews, I have started this year In January of the city vs. the county dine out restaurant night. It was City's turn (mine). We chose Sqwires, It had been a while since we had been at Sqwires and we enjoyed it. This visit was a great experience. The menu does have it's favorite traditional menu items. The pot pie and the Salmon dish. Both delicious and filling. Add a good wine or beer of your choice and you are eating good in Lafayette Square. The atmosphere is fantastic. Sqwires was an old wire factory. They converted the furnace that heated and formed the wire into a fireplace. Look around even some of the light fixtures are converted tools or containers as light fixtures. We came to eat. The Pot pie is a meal in itself. A stew with Chicken, new potatoes, herbs and veggies topped with a puff pastry. Our server was very attentive to our needs. He was courteous and professional. I recommend SqWires restaurant. Enjoy the atmosphere and gastro experience.
Neat decor inside the building is decorated beautifully. The host greeted us immediately. Our server was fast and efficient. The food was AMAZING!! We will for sure be returning next time we visit STL!
Stopped by for a break on the home and garden tour weekend. The place was swamped so service too forever, but our server was doing her absolute darnedest to keep up. We were starving by the time food came, so take this with a grain of salt, but the food was great!
WOW! My first time eating at SqWires for brunch (and in general) and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is decorated in a tasteful, rustic chic vibe and all the food was DELICIOUS. Also our server was delightful and so helpful in recommendations. Definitely gonna have to go back again for their bottomless mimosa and bloody Mary bar :)
Known for brunch, this boutique place is a fun to enjoy for any meals. Located in historic chic Lafayette square neighborhood it is housed in old wire factory and one can see interestingly placed artifacts spread inside- old chandeliers, radios, motors etc. The food portion is great and the staff is superb. Our server Abbie was attentive & awesome!! They have free yoga, music and patio is dog friendly. They have specials for everyday beside their regular menu. Great selection of beer, cocktails. The spinach in Calamari will melt in your mouth….yummy!!
They take walk ins but its best to make a reservation. Came in for brunch and they have a good Mimosa and bloody mary bar. The place was packed and the service was still good. Nice atmosphere with great food. I love a good breakfast burrito but the had shrimp and grits too. When you can't decide just get both and I wasn't disappointed. I will definitely be back.
Finally stopped in after driving past for years! Excellent food and service, it was just a bit cold inside, so I kept my coat on. They serve one of my favorite local tea brands.
If you’re ever in Lafayette square for weekend brunch or dinner I highly recommend this spot. Unique menu that always offers comforting yet creative dishes. I frequent more for brunch but have been here with family in the evening or on a dinner date. Service is good, and if you’re lucky enough they do have live music every so often and the last time the band played 60s-70s ie van Morrison, Neil young, Bob Dylan, etc.
Love SqWires! I am a regular! They're happy hour and their patio are amazing! ❤️ Not to mention their fried chicken dinners! This time I went with their BLT and calamari app. So good! Will def be getting it again. You must also try their chicken salad!!
SqWires Restaurant and Market is the perfect place to kick off an unforgettable brunch day in St. Louis! We started a recent STL Ladies Brunch Group outing here, and it set the bar high. The Mimosa & Bloody Mary bar was top-tier—customizable, well-stocked, and such a fun touch. I ordered the salmon bagel board, and it was absolute perfection: fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The ambiance at SqWires is a blend of historic charm and modern comfort, making it ideal for everything from casual brunches to special celebrations. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and the vibe was just right. This stop kicked off a full six-hour Sunday adventure, and SqWires made it easy to linger and enjoy. Whether you’re a brunch loyalist or just looking for a great start to your day, this spot belongs on your STL dining list. Had brunch on Sunday, and everything was wonderful. We were part of a large group, and everyone was very accommodating. The mushroom, spinach and gruyere omelet was amazing and the smashed potatoes were cooked to perfection.
I must start with peach bread pudding - it was one of the best puddings I tried. And I tried many ;) Great date spot with live music, outstanding service and delicious food. Friday offers oyster and shrimp bar from 4 to 7 pm and many specials. Friday cod tacos had lots of flavor. We also enjoyed mushroom paste and truffle Mac and Cheese. Good selection of alcohol and non/alcohol drinks. Many vegan and vegetarian options. Plenty of parking in front of the restaurant and on the street.
I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed SqWires. Best breakfast I’ve eaten in St. Louis. The atmosphere on the inside was very nice and someone was playing live piano. PS, Don’t get carjacked by the thugs in the Peadbodys one block away :) watch your back. 4.8/5.
We went to SqWires Restaurant and Market for breakfast, and it did not disappoint! Hubby got the Creole Shrimp Omelette and I went with the SqWires scramble (gravy on the side). Food was delicious, although it looked like I barely made a dent. The potatoes on the bottom were perfect...John was a great server, and the morning drive into the city was worth it, seeing as we beat the brunch rush from their bottomless mimosa and bloody mary bar fans. Great outdoor space, too! If you haven't been, check it out for a cool industrial vibe featuring amazing food and service.
Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in St. Louis! The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths, but my favorite was the steak. Cooked to perfection. Highly recommend!
Absolutely delicious! I was so surprised by the prices! Everything was upscale without upscale prices. First, we had the loaded bloody Mary. It was so good and I especially loved the stuffed olives!! I had the Creole shrimp omelet and everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I especially enjoyed the Cajun hollandaise. My brother had the Sqwires Benedict with the beef. He loved it but did say the eggs weren't seasoned. We asked for salt and pepper and they immediately brought them (in super cute containers!). He also mentioned that less spinach on the benedicts would be nice. But that may just be personal preference. We also got the donuts and coffee and the donuts are absolutely wonderful. Really crunchy and soft on the inside. I will definitely be back so I can try more of what SqWires has to offer. ❤️
SQWIRES NEEDS to be on your list to try ASAP! Sqwires is best known for their brunch and famous Bloody Mary bar (which is back!) but their lunch and dinner menus take them to the top of my list of places to try! The main menu is filled with delicious staples and fun drinks. For my dietary restriction friends, they have a lot of Gluten-free options and even have a dedicated GF fryer! The menu also has a lot of vegan/vegetarian options. MY FAVS: ♥️ Mussels, Shrimp, & Fries (can be made GF) ♥️ Roasted Wings with Agave Buffalo Sauce ♥️ Pan Roasted Beef Tenderloin ♥️ Veggie Lasagna (GF/Veg) Keep a look out for their daily specials like $8 “Sqware Plate” Tuesdays & Fried Chicken Thursdays
Pre-Event Since learning sugar isnt vegan and that some liquors arent vegan, i reached out prior to the event to see what my options are. Hanna did an amazing job working with me and providing me with the requested information so that I can have a smooth time ordering drinks as a vegan. She provided the labels of the items and everything which was incredibly helpful. I appreciate her so much. That there is what you call awesome hospitality. I now know what to expect and what I can and can not have. I also know what I can order and the modifications i need to ask for. This is perfect. The Event Atmosphere/environment/ Set up It was so beautiful. The set up and atmosphere was a vibe. Shoot I hate i didnt get pics of the setup. They did an amazing job with this event. My ppls Wedding Brunch Cocktail Reception was everything! We had an amazing time. It was definitely a celebration. They took really good care of me, the only vegan in attendance. My fiance is vegetarian and he had a separate meal as well. He was able to eat more of the provided foods like the appetizers and donuts etc due to being vegetarian, dairy and eggs. The only appetizers i would have been able to eat are the potatoe cakes but it came with dairy so the manager, Stephanie, personally went back to get me some without the cheese. And on top of that they gave me some hummus and this olive mixture. Everything was so delicious but baby, those potato cakes. Those were the dish of the evening. It was everyone's favorite, with and without the cheese. Lol. My fiance had a vegetarian lasagna that looked so delicious. Didnt get a pic. And my vegan meal which I think was the Tofu Truffle Skillet. Tofu, spinach, mushrooms, red onions, and potatoes. It was so fire. I think it was supposed to come with toast but it was so much i definitely didnt need the toast. My fiance went to get my drinks from the other side and he said its just as beautiful on that side as it is in the side we was on for the wedding Reception. Those bar tenders on that side was amazing as well. They did not disappoint. Drinks were perfectly strong. The 2nd bar tender was our favorite because he gave us larger cups while the first one gave us smaller cups. But i think the first bartender drinks were stronger lol. My only regret is forgetting about my dessert, a sorbet. I thought about it after we made it back home. Lol We will definitely be back! It was an amazing night.
Nice ambience inside. There is also a market inside the restaurant that sells local goods. The food was delicious . There brunch menu has a lot of choices. We got the veggie lasagna and veggie burger. They were both good. Loved the homemade fries that came with the burger.
Rating: 4.5 Stars This is a fun restaurant. The environment is pleasant, and I like the ambiance. The waiters to date have been attentive. I have been here multiples times for brunches, happy hours, lunches, and drinks. It is always a fun and enjoyable experience. The brunch has excellent pancakes, especially the buckwheat pancakes. For the price, I wish that you got more than two. That is my only real complaint. The mimosa bar looks pretty comprehensive, but I have not ordered from it yet. I was a big fan of the black beans, brown rice, and grilled chicken dish, but I do not see that on the menu anymore, which is a shame! It had a lot of flavor, especially with the sweet potatoes, and the various components really complement each other nicely. The Mixed Greens with Grilled Chicken is a freshy, tasty salad. Regarding their Starter Plates, the Baked Brie, Calamari, Broiled Goat Cheese, and French Fries are all excellent. The Baked Brie has a unique combination of flavors. The Calamari is crispy and not too salty, and the house-made marinara is flavorful. The Broiled Goat Cheese is excellent on the herb flatbread. I love the French Fries; they have a ton of flavor with the truffle oil, parmesan, fresh herbs, and the lemon sage aioli. Yum! The place is certainly consistent just like me. I seem to always order the Schlafly Hefeweizen. I will be back, and you should check it out!
I stopped in for brunch, and the food was great. They might have been understaffed as service was not swift. I liked the decoration inside, but it was loud, hard to hold a conversation
Great atmosphere for brunch. We got the steak eggs Benedict and pumpkin pancakes. Overall the meal was well priced and good servings. The Benedict's was tastier than the pancakes. Service was average. It was very busy. The little market has a surprising amount of variety.
Super Cute Intimate Spot!!! We did have a wait but that's to be expected on a nice Sunday. Service was on point, out waiter let us know that were having staffing problems. We understood like the rest of the world is having the same. Food was tasty. I didn't care much for the potatoes.
This place is amazing. I was there Tuesday and the food was great. I get the pizza. It was covered with salmon, capers, cheese and let me tell you they wasn't stingy with the toppings. We also got Calamari and a brisket sandwich and we weren't disappointed. We will be returning. Highly recommended! My favorite new place!!!
Happy hour drinks were perfect. Calamari app was okay, the breading was salty. But the dinner service and drinks were great. They also had live music
Amazing fish and chips! The atmosphere is cozy with a large fireplace. Reminded me of a a London pub. Service was excellent.
Came her on Sunday, 1/4 for my reservation of 10 ladies at 11am. Our server (a gentleman with dark hair) was excellent and attentive, he went above and beyond in taking care of us. The food was amazing too. My friends were all raving about the delicious brunch food and great service, and insisted we return here in the future for another ladies' brunch. It's always a good feeling when I organize a dinner or brunch at a restaurant for a big group, and the restaurant doesn't embarrass me in front of my friends and delivers on all points... So thank you!!
The best night; 2nd only to the next night (wedding). Truly a wonderful experience in every way! The venue is beautiful, but that is all Thanks to Stephanie Long. Stephanie dealt with me since November, so almost a full year. And the outcome was beyond perfection. The food was so delicious! It was way better than what you get at the restaurant even! And each server was so attentive and great also. Thank you Stephanie ❤️
I had a gourmet grilled cheese but others in my party had fabulous looking salads, fish and chips, or a tuna dish and everyone raved. I need to try the fish and chips myself next time! Super service, very accommodating, even when our fifth person arrived as we were taking our last bites. Charming atmosphere, love the market! Bought two books on St. Louis history.
Thr atmosphere was festive and what a great menu! I had a reuben, which was delicious and served with a heap of freshly cut fries. Because of the holidsy croud, our large group was comped a couple of desserts to make ip for slow service. We understood and didn't mind! Really good place for a fun meal Lafayette Square is amazing!
Very cool atmosphere— exposed brick and large warm fireplace gave it a welcoming yet modern vibe. Our server Joseph was great and recommended the special, the Cajun salmon pasta and it was phenomenal! Highly recommend!
Chill atmosphere, friendly service. Went for lunch. Sandwich was good, maybe not worth $16 though. Maybe try brunch or dinner.
Based on today's meal, the breakfast burrito was good, not great, but I'm not a fan of sage. Service was a bit slow but it was a busy day. I LOVED the potato that was served on the side. It was baked then cut and had cheese. I think it was cooked a second time because the skin was crunchy. Yummy! My daughter loved her biscuits and gravy which includes scrambled eggs and cheese.
It was our first Saturday brunch here at SqWires. It's a super cute restaurant that has its own small little shop inside. The food was pretty good and our waiter was knowledgeable and patient. Our party of 8 did not like their sausage at all. It seems like its made in house, which is a nice thought, but the taste is off. But the pancakes, eggs, bacon, and French toast were good. They also make their own donuts as well. The kids at our table didn't like those either but the presentation was nice. I'd definitely try this restaurant again and order different dishes.
Came for a Sunday brunch and the food was excellent. Drinks were quite high for the little amount you get. I don’t know if they allow people to take jars of toppings from the mimosa bar, but there was a table of several people that took 4 jars and just sat there hogging them - their waiter never said anything and I would have if i were using the bar. The skillet mash was amazing w/ Hollandaise sauce drizzled over. Will definitely order again. There were no food complaints by anyone at the table. Waiter + service provided was average.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, and attentive service make this restaurant/bar a must-visit. The only reason it's not five stars is because they ran out of andouille sausage for the omelette which would have heightened the flavor profile of the cooked omelette. Overall, a fantastic experience and a wonderful Sunday brunch!
Made a reservation here for a Saturday morning based on some internet reviews and search engine results. Absolutely was worth it. We had a party of five. Seating was easy and the restaurant followed all social distancing protocol. The atmosphere was great, fire going in the fireplace, and someone playing piano. We all had a round of cocktails, a Cherry Bourbon Ginger Ale for me and a bunch of different Mimosas. We had a few appetizers and I personally had Shrimp and Grits. I live in a suburb of New Orleans so allow me to say I am quite the hard guy to please when it comes to things like that because I come from a culinary heaven. They were fixed just right and as good as any I have every had. Service was fantastic. All in all I would recommend this place for brunch to anyone. If I find my way back to St Louis I would eat there again. You should give it a try as well.
This place gives upscale, but cozy brunch was definitely amazing bottomless mimosas bomb! Katie our server was amazing definitely will be back creole shrimp omelet and Sqwires scramble a must try!
Worth a visit! We came on “fried chicken Thursday”. My husband got the three piece start, the sides were the star of the show. The chicken was really crispy but on the bland side. I got the burger and it tastes EXACTLY like a McDonalds double quarter pounder. (Not necessarily a bad thing) the fries are pretty, but basic. We will definitely come back again and try their other menus!
The food was good, the service was excellent. What I did not like was being charged more for using a credit card. When merchants agree to accept credit cards as a convenience for patrons, the patron should not be responsible for the fee.
Food is usually very good! Kitchen and service is super slow every time. They don’t have enough kitchen or serving crew in my opinion. Too bad because the food is good here. You just can’t be in a hurry. It usually takes 35-45 minutes just to get your food! Atmosphere is relaxed and nice.
Went with some friends prior to a show downtown St. Louis. We arrive at 6 for our reservation. It was pretty busy. Neat building with a great atmosphere. There was a band playing on Friday night. It wasn’t too loud and they were good. Our server/service seemed slow. Not sure if that’s a norm here or if they were understaffed. It took forever to get water. Then a long time for drinks. Thankfully we ordered when we placed our drink order. Not sure what time we finally ordered but needless to say, We were quickly running against the clock to make it to the show in time. Our food was good. Would return for the food. Hopefully the service was a one time thing. It took almost an hour and a half for a small menu. We didn’t even attempt ordering a second drink. Go for the food and atmosphere. Not the quick service.
Come here for the atmosphere and maybe the Mimosas, go elsewhere for brunch. I have to say we were unfortunately let down by the quality of food and drink at SqWires. Don't get me wrong, the food in the photos you see below looks amazing however that's as deep as it goes. We started with a Mr. Pibb and the Dubuque coffee. The soda was flat, I mean dead flat, no carbonation what so ever. My second glass somehow proved to be even more flat, if that was even possible. The coffee was ok, however a bit bitter for my wife's taste. We ordered the Smoked Brisket Hash, the SqWires Benedict, and the child's hamburger meal. Our Eggs Benedict with Salmon was the winner, but still lacked a developed flavor profile. The Hash wasn't inedible, but close. The brisket was rubbery, undercooked, and the fat had not rendered... there was no taste of smoke in the slightest. The potatoes were undercooked and were difficult to pierce with a fork. Eggs were cooked nicely though. This meal didn't work will together. Hash generally is well combined and has a more thoughtful coronation of flavors. My daughter said her hamburger was dry and unseasoned. She mentioned the brioche bun overwhelmed the already dry patty. My taste test proved her sentiments were in fact correct. I'm sorry SqWires, I think you can do better. I will try brunch elsewhere next time we're in town.
Underwhelming food despite high expectations. Looks good on paper but taste was average. Enjoyed the home made hummus. Cauliflower appetizers were also good. Veggie lasagna looked good but for some reason was just drowned in cheese (which could have been good) but the whole thing kind of tasted bland. Raspberry sorbet was also nothing special. Overall food taste could be more refined. My meat eater friends agreed too. Regarding spirits, the options were kind of limited in scotch whiskies with mostly blends. Waiter was trying to help me and he was great. Bartender was gruff. Decided to skip having a drink. Service was very very slow yet friendly. Private room was cold despite cute fireplace that was too far from tables. My guess is that all the great reviews are for the main area which is cozier than huge private room. And probably for the non veggie gluten free options. Overall we wouldn’t go again.
first time visiting. went for brunch & got the creole shrimp omelette. wasn’t impressed. the omelette is atop a bed of grits (which you can’t see in the pic because there were barely any there). everything lacked flavor. they dumped seasoning on the top of it but the inside was so bland. the shrimp inside were completely unseasoned. definitely don’t recommend this dish. wish it tasted as good as it looks. my friend got the same thing and they said it was also unseasoned. inside of restaurant is very cute! the service wasn’t great. sat for a long time without getting checks until we asked for them
We had excellent service & the atmosphere is nice. i was very disappointed in my salmon dish. The salmon quality was disappointing and the side sweet potato & red pepper relish was overcooked and had a heat type of spicy taste The sweet potato relish was served in pea size cut up pieces and very hard. The salmon was also a very small thin piece, overcooked, & dry and was nit served warm & lacked flavor. Some may like this unique salmon dish version, but I prefer a moist salmon dish with either a sweet marinade or dill type of sauce that is served warm. I was also disappointed with the bread pudding. It is served dry and appears & tasted more like cut up pound cake and it lacked flavor. And it was served cold with abour 2 dried cherries. Some may like this unique version, but I prefer a traditional warmed served moist bread pudding with a tasty vanilla sauce.
Awful. I was excited to try this place because of all the great reviews but I was definitely disappointed. Mind you it's a distillery so it might have some amazing beer but I didn't try that, I'm not a beer person. So if that's what you're going for I might give it a try. But as far as food goes it's awful. The bartender suggested the Lafayette lemonade so I tried it and it was awful. There was not a hint of alcohol at all. It did nothing to me. It tasted and felt like I just drank 500 grams of sugar. Not a good taste and no alcohol. I also ordered the Brie and the shrimp n grits. The Brie was pretty good although if I were them I'd make the bread a little more toasty as well as add some sort of spread or jelly. The shrimp n grits was awful. It had no flavors once so ever! Just looking at the shrimp there was hardly any seasoning on it. The sauce that came on it also had no flavor. I had to add spoonful of pepper just to eat it. It also came with sausage which tasted like half baked hot dogs. It was not good at all. I will never com back to this establishment. Service was pretty good but the food was awful. I spent 40 dollars just on that alone too. Never again. I should have stuck to my gut and went to Broadway.
The food looked really good and couldn’t wait to try it, but my experience was not what I expected… We got sat and we waited 2 hours for our waiter to come and tell us that the kitchen forgot about us and were making our food just now. We finally got our food and it was bland, but the views and atmosphere was great.
5 star for atmosphere, 1 star for food. Dont know if they just had a bad night or what…but i spent 100 dollars (including tip) for luke warm soup, soggy fries, dried out fish and chips. Wife spent 13.00 on 4 onion rings. 4. Her pork was so dry she couldnt eat it. It was honestly quite embarrassing how bad it was. I want to give them another chance but for that price I probably wont. Beautiful building though.
