We had a nice family dinner at Barrio Queen (Tempe Marketplace location)! Enjoyed the tableside guacamole, the enchiladas, the chimichanga, the fajitas and the tacos. The kids enjoyed their quesadillas, chicken strips, with fruit and churros. The service was great. Oh yes and the chips and salsa were addictive! The margaritas were delicious and the mocktails were tasty! We'll definitely come back again. Thank you for a wonderful dinner!
My daughter and I went there for the first time a couple weeks ago and the food was awesome. The weight staff was amazing. I would completely recommend this restaurant again. I don't know how they make their salsa, but it was so good that when I got home, I made salsa wasn't exactly theirs but still good. I asked the waitress what she recommended and the first picture is what she recommended and it was so good. The chorizo and the refried beans is yummy. The second picture is my salsa that I made when I got home because theirs was so good. I tried to replicate it
I loved the place! Very authentic flavor!!! I had the 3 tacos: carne asada, birria and pastor. They have kids menú.
This was a one-stop for dinner before I headed home to PA from my week long vacation. We ordered the three tacos, of which I had the BBQ beef or pulled beef one. My sister had the other two. I only had one because I wanted dessert. As you can see, it was worth it!!! Everything was delicious! I wish I had more time to try other items. This is a must stop if in the area or passing through. Oh, and the chips and salsa were some of the best I've ever had. If I lived close by or within a reasonable proximity, I'd be eating here very often. Thank you for an amazing last dinner before heading home. ❤️
Great atmosphere outdoor seating was very nice. The waitress did an amazing job with our table of 20 people. Great food
First visit to Barrio Queen in Tempe Marketplace—and we’re fans! Vibrant vibe, great patio seating, and super friendly service. We weren’t rushed, which made it perfect for catching up with friends. The duo fajitas (steak & chicken) hit the spot, and the margarita + sangria combo sealed the deal. It’s located inside Tempe Marketplace, so like any busy outdoor shopping area—beware of traffic and take your time parking. We’ll definitely be back for happy hour! 🍹🌮☀️
Food and aguas frescas were delicious. We tried the jamaica and mango. Ordered chile verde plate and it was absolutely delicious. Service was awesome and patio area was very nice.
I have thought about this place for 2 years since my first visit and was so excited to come back. The food is amazing. The staff is so friendly. Everything about it is great. I will cone here everytime I visit.
Been there few times. The authenticity of the food and genuineness of the staff is amazing. They have wide selection for both vegetarian and nonvegetarian customers. Food is fresh and delicious. Would recommend to everyone.
Good atmosphere the restaurant is dark and hard to read the menu. The food and service was great
Everything was AMAZING!!! Food is delicious, ask for Alex as your server his customer service is top notch, definitely will come back to this location!
This guacamole changed my life. Pomegranates. Perfectly divine combination of salty sour spicy sweet. Absolutely delicious!
Great HH selection! Food is great, drinks were on point and the deals were fantastic! Great service and if the weather's nice, make sure to reserve your patio seating in advance! Luv this spot!
Great Mexican food and nice atmosphere. We have been there 3 times and got the same server. He did a pretty good job. The food portion sizes are pretty large and believe it or not, the burger is pretty good. I don't normally go to a Mexican place to get a burger but this place make a good one.
Food was amazing, had the Molcajetes mixed grill and an order of guacamole. I would recommend both.
The stars say it all. Enjoy the pics. Happy Holiday's!
Barrio Queen was our first stop on road trip to Az and it was worth the drive…delicious, flavorful, abundant. I can’t say enough as this has become our favorite Mexican restaurant by far! The drinks are always on point. The chips and salsa are addictive and the food does not disappoint. Also major points for the vibe!
Super yummy food. Reminded me of authentic mexican restaurants I grew up with in CA. Loved the on-the-house replenishing warm tortilla chips to start. Lovely server Jaimie who hooked it up with all the great salsas, from hot red to mild tomatillo. Would come again! 😋
Had a lovely evening out with family hosting a relative we haven’t seen in years. The cocktails were amazing and the service top notch. We came for the food and the kitchen did not disappoint. I had a trio of different flavors of enchiladas. Amazing and filling. I highly recommend Barrio Queen in Tempe. Make reservations. This place is popular.
My fiancé and I had our engagement party here last Sunday and it was the most amazing experience! We had Angel as our waiter and he did such a great job with our group. Everything went seamlessly and the entire team truly went above and beyond for us. Food was 10/10 and they did a great job with making sure to accommodate some allergies in the group also. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!
Stopped by in our way to the airport. Greeted and seated quickly. The hostess and server were attentive and friendly. We ordered the cheese crisp for an appetizer, my husband had a burrito and I ordered the suza enchiladas. While the cheese crisp was good, skip it, expensive for cheddar on a tortilla. The chips and salsa were a great start. Let me say, for a small restaurant chain, our meals were delicious! I am so glad we stopped in prior to our flight. ✈️ f we had more time, would have ordered the guacamole. My husband remarked prior to leaving how genuinely nice everyone was there. My only regret, is that I should have gotten a Tshirt.
Came in at 7pm on a Saturday, no wait but the place was not empty. We sat down and were greeted by the friendliest server, angel. He was knowledgeable about the menu, personable, and very attentive. Our food came out very quick, and was delicious. We will definitely be returning - and it is 90% because of angel (10% because the food was so good).
Such amazing food and atmosphere, I got the 3 enchiladas with rice and beans. It was a little expensive at around $20 for the plate, kind of small but the taste was amazing! I would definitely come back, I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a great sit down Mexican restaurant.(Very difficult to find for date nights if your in the mood for Mexican)
First time here, certainly not the last. Best salsa I have ever tasted! My entree was the Queen Enchiladas. So delicious, so fresh. My lunch partner had the Chili Rellenos de Vegetales. Usually a carnivore, she was delighted! Overall wonderful dining experience!
We showed up 45 minutes before closing, and were immediately seated. We realized that there was a late night happy hour and the waitress told us we had to sit at the bar (margaritas were $5 as opposed to $13), so we moved. The bartender was very annoyed that we moved to the bar and very slow to provide service to us. Finally he came and annoyingly told us that the kitchen would close soon. He did chill out a little, but overall it made the experience much less enjoyable. Food was delicious though! The elote ribs are delicious, as well as the vegetarian tacos. My sister ordered chicken enchiladas (barrio) that she loved as well. The guacamole is a little overrated and I’m not a fan of the pomegranate seeds.
Fun atmosphere for group luncheon with 7 people. Delicious food & great service. Conveniently located midway between E. Valley & Phoenix. Management was accommodating regarding dividing our bill for individual checks. Would have given it 5 stars, but policy here requires one check per table. It's difficult to go with colleagues or friends as someone has to pay for the entire table & expect everyone to reimburse them in cash. Not easy when you don't see people often. Our suggestion to management. . . consider flexibility with the bill even though it inconveniences servers. Despite the great food we will have to find another place for our regular luncheon together, as I imagine other groups are having to do as well. The photo was the wall behind our table, very interesting & colorful.
We had a dine in experience at Barrio Queen. The food was tasty and the flavours were really mouthwatering. The dessert flight was also very good. The service was really fast and the food was served within 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend this place.
Food and drinks are good, ate there twice in a week and everything tasted really fresh and had lots of good flavor. Music is great, it’s a nice place. Very clean. Service wasn’t that great, sitting at the bar I’d expect a bit more conversation and engagement but there was no conversation at all and the bartender stayed on the other side of the bar to intentionally not interact which is a bummer when you are eating alone on a business trip. But even during the transactional interactions not a word was spoken. It was like a silent movie.
We went here last night after watching an instagrammer talk about it and it looked like a great place with great reviews. Initially when we got there there was a small line and we had to wait about 10 to 15 minutes which isn't bad. Outside is a outdoor eating area which had live music starting just before we left. We went inside and sat down in the booth and the interior of this restaurant is great. We had an amazing waitress, very friendly and accommodating. I ordered three tacos which were good but not the best I've had for sure, expected better. We also ordered a barrio bowl which was just okay as the chicken was dry and very little rice mostly salad. My son had a torta with carnitas and cheese grilled on sourdough bread which was good. If we go back I'd like to try something different, maybe a burrito or enchilada. My wife had the margarita flight which was really good and I had their top of the line Margarita which was also very good but had way too much ice in it, not enough margarita. We also thought it was way overpriced as we spent close to $86 before the tip. Drinks were almost half the cost of the entire order. Also, their chips and salsa were some of the best I've ever eaten.
Queso birria tacos were good! Waiter convinced me to try the surf and turf. But i took a bite and it was not good! She replaced it at no charge! Chips were hard!
Server Christian was very personable, well-groomed, and displayed excellent manners. I decided to give this restaurant a try as a walk-in. Both entrees that my guest and I ordered were just okay — nothing particularly special, and I wouldn’t order them again. While we left a bit hungry, we also left impressed by the manager’s professionalism. She handled my feedback with genuine care, viewing it not as an insult but as an opportunity to improve and ensure guest satisfaction.
We had a very large party (15 people) They did accommodate us since we called ahead and we didn't have to wait for all of us to arrive. We were seated as we all came. Great atmosphere. I felt it was expensive for what you got though. Small soft tacos are $5 each Service was reasonable. Give them a try to see what you think!
The food was pretty good but not great. The enchilada didn't have much of anything and it was just a wrapped up tortilla with red sauce on it... Very little cheese. The two tacos and the pizoli were good. The salsa is delicious. All in all pretty good.
My family and I came here 11/23/25. We had a good time . We love the Atmosphere. Dia de los muertos decor. The music they play is great. The waiter was awesome. We were a party of 6. He really made sure we were took care of. I highly recommend the molcajete mix grill. I chose the 3 cheese enchilada. Which was different than expected. The horchata was pretty good. The wait brought us out some chips and salsa. Make sure to make a reservation. We ordered mix drinks . The drinks and shirts were good . But, your bill will add up quickly. Over all we had a great time and enjoy our second visit.
There was no wait on a Saturday night. The table side guacamole was great. The different taco options were great. My favorite was the burrio taco. Chips and salsa were a great pair. Tortilla soup and enchiladas were flavorful. The margaritas were decent. The flavor was decent, but lacked the kick needed to be great.
This is one of our favorite places to eat. My wife and I eat there about once a month. Food has always good with the exception of the last two times. My salad was good, but her food has been brought to the table very cold, (shrimp and fish tacos). We also witnessed an employee doing things that would definitely catch the health inspectors eye. I really hope these incidents are isolated because we would hate to give up this place. When the food is a little pricey, (at $5.00 per small taco with no sides), you expect good quality. It wasn't busy the last two times we went either. Well, I sent the information that was requested, twice, and it went nowhere! Why ask for the receipts, etc. if you are going to do anything. It's been almost a month.
Was very unimpressed. Got the reverse happy hour tacos. birria tacos were flat out nasty chicken ones were solid. She got the carne asada tacos they were pretty decent as well. The drinks were the best part honestly. I got the jalapeno margarita. She got the house margaritas. If I did happen to go back I would just drink! The service was really slow and pretty poor. I asked for a salsa and she looked at me like she didn't know what I was talking about. I had to ask for napkins and silverware which took a minute to actually get. The only thing that came quick was the check. When they first brought the tacos out they forgot two of them and tried to give me something else instead which no big deal but it took a minute to get my last two tacos which were the birria ones and they could have honestly keep those. I only took one bite and quickly realized they weren't for me!
First time at Barrio. I liked the restaurant as we walked in with the decor, cleanliness and small display of items for sale with the restaurant logo. We were seated quickly and were brought chips and salsa as we perused the menu. The chips were thin, light, crispy and tasty. The salsa was excellent and was thinking this could be our 'go to' place for Mexican food. The descriptions of the various items seemed right out of Mexico City. Alas, the food did not live up to expectations. I don't like to say food was good or bad since it is strictly a matter of opinion and individual taste. However, I ordered the enchilada "TRIO" with one chicken, spinach, and beef. For my taste, they were just blah but OK but just no spiciness and not much difference in the taste of the three. For me, it was just a disappointment. My wife had the tamales and she said they were good and liked them so her experience was better. Perhaps with the listing of all the 'special' ingredients it had my hopes up to high but for me it just seemed like Tex-Mex. On a positive note, the wait staff was efficient and friendly and the food was delivered in a timely fashion
We chose Barrio Queen to celebrate my husband’s and my 20-year anniversary, a milestone that should have been special and memorable. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but. My husband ordered the fish tacos, which were very bland and completely tasteless. He did bring it to Voiliets attention and she let her manager know ,hoping it could be corrected, but nothing improved the situation. Despite this, the manager came extremely close to our face and was aggressive he said ok it will be taken off our bill my husband informed him of the concern and said he would speak to the cook it's off our bill . He took the fish off but still charged my husbans tacos? Wow charged for his reacement chickens????? which was frustrating and disappointing given the circumstances. To make matters worse, we were also charged for our anniversary dessert, which felt especially tone-deaf considering the overall experience and the fact that this was a once-in-a-lifetime celebration for us. For a restaurant that markets itself as a place for celebration and elevated dining, the service and customer care fell far short. A 20-year anniversary only happens once, and sadly, Barrio Queen did not honor that moment. We left feeling let down and wishing we had chosen somewhere else VOILIET 10/10 ⭐❤️
I wasn’t overly impressed by this place. First time I tried it for dinner and we sat on the patio on great weather. The food was okay, pretty standard American Mexican. The service was terrible. We didn’t see our waiter for about a half hour and he never refilled our drinks or asked us if we’d like refills. I assume this is mostly a happy hour small plate place. The patio seating was nice and the interior was pleasant. Sound levels were okay outside.
We recently brought out-of-state guests here for lunch, hoping to give them an authentic and enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, it was disappointing and honestly a bit embarrassing for us as the hosts. The restaurant was not busy, there were only about six tables occupied, yet our service was extremely lacking. Our server was largely absent throughout the meal. We weren’t able to get drink refills, she never checked back after the food was delivered, and when incorrect food was brought to our table, there was no opportunity to address it because she never returned. When we tried to make eye contact to get assistance, she actively avoided our table. We understand that restaurants can get busy and that service isn’t always perfect. We truly don’t expect over-the-top attention. However, basic attentiveness and communication go a long way. Unfortunately, this experience fell well below that standard. This was our third visit to this location and will likely not return.
Bland Mexican food at a premium price… pretty disappointing. How come I can’t taste the birria soup? It’s supposed to be one of the most flavorful dishes! Most dishes had 0 flavor. The desserts were horrendous as well. The tres leches was deconstructed? The cake bits in it felt store brought. And the flan?! Why is is soo small? Why does it have a caramel toffee on top and why is it sooo hard?! In my opinion this place was Not Worth It.
We requested a seat for dinner on the patio. The hostess that greeted us after we had been waiting with nobody there for several minutes , told us we could only sit inside the dining room. It was 7:00 in the evening, so they were still open for a long time . The patio had a lot of open seating. We stayed that we only wanted to patio and she said it was too busy and we could not sit there. She did not even offer a wait time. We left and went somewhere else. My pictures will show how many vacant seats there were on the patio.
We came to celebrate my mother's birthday. We came for an eay dinner. It's was a little busy already due to spring training. When we approached the host stand, she immediately gave us attitude. Making statements that we should have made reservations for our large party. ( There was 5 of us) Then stated we couldn't sit on the patio, which we responded our preferred seating would be inside. This should have been our warning to leave. We were sat within 10 mins which was very reasonable. Our server was terrible. We kept trying to order drinks and she said she would come back. We waited a while we could have ordered more of she had moved a bit faster. We loved the decor and enjoyed looking at it during our wait. We eventually placed our orders. There were tables who got their food amd drink orders before we even got our water and soda drinks to the table. Our bar drinks died waiting to be served which a manger ended up bringing out. The food came out very quickly but wasn't impressive tasting. I make better food at home and was overpriced for the portions. I am very disappointed. The kids' meals come with a free dessert which wa snice for them given the extremely small portion. Our drinks were never refined, and we never got the additional salsa we asked for. We would not go back such a waste and terrible experience we even skipped the merchandise given the terrible experience. My mother felt terrible asking to come here to celebrate her birthday we ended up taking her out again to make up for it somewhere else.
So disappointing! We tried to go there last night but the hostess refused to seat us on the patio (at 7:15 pm) because she said it was “full” and had no open tables. Photos don’t lie. She/they clearly do not want business! It was almost shocking.
When we arrived we waited to be seated for a few minutes the place was empty, the gentleman that seemed like the manager saw us standing there. He didn't bother to acknowledge us. He went on with his conversation with the bartender, then once he was done he made his way towards us. He gave the perception that he didn't seem to care for costumers. The Fish taco tasted old. We got the side of charro beans and epazote black beans and they taste like can beans with no flavor. Michelle the waitress was nice and attentive. Yes it was late when we arrived 1hr before closing. But nonetheless, costumer service and food should be the same across the border. Wouldn't recommend this pace at all. Not worth your money.
Stopped in for happy hour, the place only had maybe 10-12 people at the time. Server took our order which was flavorless and bland. Would have liked another margarita but never got a return visit from our server.asked for more chips from a different server and never received any. Small food portions and not much flavor.Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
I have visited a few times. Most recently around 9/18/25? Every visit has been a declining experience for several years and the most recent one pretty much has me not ever returning. Your prices are too high.. but that would be okay if the food was decent. So.. Your salsa is the dullest crap I have tasted in 40 years? And that bowl of soup... $11? For what? It tastes like generic garbage out of a can. What the hell? I got heartburn! Never happens.. I had to quit eating it. And.. Your music is not only Too Loud, but sucks! Give this some thought, as I WILL NEVER RETURN! That isn't MEXICAN FOOD. It's utter CRAP! You lost a customer for...Forever! And your service is less than stellar. Just thought you should know. Never returning! EVER! By the way I had to click one star to post this review which is complete B.S. The most watered down garbage I have ever experienced!
What a disgraceful server! She managed to turn a delicious meal into a miserable experience. Her attitude was colder than the plate she served on. I’ve read about 5,000 years of history, and not once have I come across someone who could ruin hospitality this badly. It’s truly sad — because the restaurant itself is beautiful. The weather was perfect, the outdoor seating was inviting, and the interior design was absolutely stunning. But all of that went down the drain the moment she opened her mouth. Out of respect, I won’t mention her name, but she’s around 5'4", wears thick glasses, and makes every guest feel like they’ve offended her merely by existing. If you ever dine here, beware — one encounter with her and your meal might feel like poison served with a smile. Hopefully, she will learn the lessons from this review.
We were looking for a good restaurant to eat at. We picked this place and at first they were very attentive, then when my wife sat down it took them awhile to get our drink order. When they took our drink order and food order both came out at the same time. I think that all meals are pre prep so they come out fast and none of it is fresh. While we paid the waitress stood by for me to sign. Which made it uncomfortable for us. Over priced and plating was small.
