FOOD: • Old Beijing Smoked Duck Breast – This was my first time trying duck, and I’m so glad I tried it here. The flavor reminded me of honey baked ham, but with a richer taste and a completely different texture (of course). It was smoky, slightly sweet, and really well executed. • Golden Clay Pot Chicken – My favorite dish of the night. It had a beautiful balance of flavor. It gave subtle curry notes without being overpowering. Comforting, fragrant, and perfectly seasoned. • Na’s Angus Prime – I usually avoid ordering items that don’t align with a restaurant’s specialty, so I was skeptical since they lean toward Chinese cuisine. But given their Michelin recognition, we decided to try it — and no regrets. The meat was tender and well-cooked. While it wasn’t as flavorful as I expected on its own, the accompanying sauce elevated it and brought everything together. • Shrimp Fried Rice with Bonito – I expected a bit more punch in flavor, but it paired nicely with our other dishes and balanced the meal well. • Chinese Beef Pie – A great appetizer. Crispy on the outside with juicy ground beef inside — be careful, the filling is hot and flavorful. • Pan Fried Chives – This one was just okay. A little heavy on the chives for my taste, but the egg component was light and nicely done. ⸻ DESSERTS ARE A MUST • Cheese Pudding (Koi Fish Shape) – AMAZING. It reminded me of flan but with a different, lighter composition. Smooth, creamy, and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. Definitely a standout. • Imperial Court Cheese – Good, but not as memorable as the pudding. • Crystal Pear Drink – Another favorite. I initially wanted it hot, but they only had it warm — and I’m glad. It was soothing and subtly sweet. ⸻ We had a 7:45 PM reservation on a Sunday. We arrived a bit late but were seated within five minutes, which we appreciated. The staff was friendly and welcoming. My only complaint is that it took a while for someone to take our order — my husband eventually had to flag someone down — which is why I’m giving 4 stars in the service rating section. *** I was able to overlook this and give an overall 5 star rating because the service provided was friendly the whole night and food did not disappoint. Overall, I would definitely come back to explore more of the menu. And yes, it’s located in a shopping center near a Planet Fitness and a few other restaurants. But I appreciated the intricate details of the restaurant’s décor are what truly make it stand out. From the beautifully carved wood accents to the traditional instruments displayed along the upper walls, every element feels intentional. The Chinese-style lighting adds warmth and ambiance, making the overall dining experience even more immersive and memorable.
Incredible! Absolutely incredible. Gf has been wanting to go here and try it out for the longest time. We weren't overly hungry, and thank goodness. I mean, the prices are what one would expect at a Michelin rated restaurant...but so is the food! We had fried shrimp, fried beef buns, eggplant and pork noodles and panna cotta for dessert. Would go again and again and again...
Bistro NA was highly recommended to us by long time residents in the area. After hearing so many referrals, we decided to drive one and half hours from Newport Beach to give it a try. It really is a jewel. The main dining area is decorated with classic Chinese art collection, giving you a peaceful feeling after fighting busy traffic. We notice there are private booths on the side, and they are mostly packed. The menu offers lots of choices, and it appears to chef made a lot of ingredients in house, including tofu! We tried their toasted duck, egg plants, and all are delicious.
Great experience! Food was amazing! Food presentation was excellent! Service was excellent! We also had the shrimp fried rice, bok choy w/mushrooms and caramelized pecans that were really good (not pictured).
Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) Environment ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An elegant and refined Chinese restaurant. The space feels polished and intentional, striking a great balance between upscale and comfortable. Food ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • Crispy Shrimp ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent. Full of flavor with a satisfying texture—rich, bold, and very well executed. • Tofu Dish ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A pleasant surprise. I initially thought it was pumpkin, but it turned out to be tamago tofu coated with salted egg yolk crumbs. Savory, fragrant, and beautifully balanced. • Osmanthus Lotus Root ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Nicely done, but slightly less sweet than I would prefer—as a Shanghainese diner, I expected a bit more sweetness. • Jing Jiang Rou Si with Pancakes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good and authentic. Properly seasoned and executed the way it should be. • Chive Pockets ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ Solid overall, though the egg pieces were cut a bit too large for my taste (a minor, picky detail). • Dim Sum Platter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding. Everything was delicious and immediately reminded me of Siji Minfu in Beijing. This place genuinely operates at a mainland China level in terms of flavor and execution. Overall Thoughts From technique to flavor, this restaurant delivers consistently at a very high standard. It’s rare to find a Chinese restaurant abroad that feels this authentic and well executed across so many dishes. Will I come back? Absolutely.
Bistro Na’s absolutely lives up to the hype. We ordered the Peking duck (which you must reserve at least a week in advance), and it was easily one of the most tender ducks I’ve had. While it wasn’t quite as crispy as I personally expected, it was still incredibly flavorful and 100% worth trying if you’re coming here. The crispy shrimp was another standout—perfectly cooked with a really nice sweet-and-sour balance that made it addictive. We also ordered the tofu bean curd salad, which was refreshing, well-seasoned, and definitely worth getting. What truly elevated the entire experience, though, was our server—who I believe is also the manager—Daiano. He went above and beyond, consistently checking in on us, making sure everything was perfect, and genuinely making us feel welcomed. His attentiveness and warmth made the night feel special, not rushed or transactional. This restaurant is incredibly lucky to have him, and I would honestly recommend coming here just for his service alone. Overall, fantastic food, great atmosphere, and exceptional service. We’ll definitely be back.
While it’s unfortunate that this spot lost its Michelin star in 2022, the quality and experience are still very much worth your time. Reservations are highly recommended, as it fills up quickly, and complimentary parking in the strip mall is a nice bonus. Standout dishes include the short rib, crispy shrimp, and braised pork belly. all rich, flavorful, and beautifully done.
So many delicious dishes to choose from ✨ Hands down the crispy shrimp is the best, no contest and something you absolutely need to order. It’s enough to make this Chinese restaurant one of our favorites in Greater Los Angeles area 🥰 Some additional items to consider … Na’s Secret Tofu is another one that really stood out for me 🫶 the chili tofu skin was was also a hit! Golden Dungeness Crab with Pumpkin and Salted Egg, I would recommend this over the Garlic deep fried crab if you have to choose… We got both. Black Cod with Eggplant was gigantic but the server portioned it out perfectly. I was so full by the time it was served that I shared mine. Same with the Beijing Zhajang Noodles and intestines. Braised Abalone and Pork Belly, use the canoed top half of the Chinese Fluffy Pie (skip the bottom half) for a perfect protein to carb ratio. All the veggies were amazing, we ordered pea sprouts with mushrooms, asparagus, and the perfectly prepared okra 🤤 We were seated in the private dining to celebrate a special birthday. Comfortably seated 12 guests and the staff were very attentive. What a great way to kick off the new year! Thank you to the entire Bistro Na team for making it a Michelin star worthy memorable night!!!
Bistro Na is an upscale Chinese restaurant with amazing food so it's perfect for special occasions. Make sure to make a reservation, or you might face a long wait or even be turned away. The interior is beautifully decorated, giving off a royal court vibe, and the servers are fantastic and very knowledgeable about each dish. You can tell they put a lot of care into every plate, as everything is beautifully presented. One of my favorite dishes is the crispy shrimp, it was light, sweet, and perfectly crispy. I also love the Chayote Leaves Salad which is seasonal, but a must-try if it's offered!
The famous Bistro Na did not disappoint. A nice traditional sit-down experience for Northern/Beijing cuisine. Decor is giving high end Chinese restaurant, and the great service goes along with it. All the food was well prepared and really tasty. Every dish was solid and couldn't go wrong. Overall really happy with my experience here as a Chinese food lover. 😋
Update 9/2025: came back to try different dishes. The braised pork belly was tender and flavorful, though just a tad too sweet. The crispy rice with seafood was definitely a unique dish and tasted very good. The two desserts that we ordered this time were also different than traditional Pekinese cuisine m. The fried rice cake with condensed milk was very tasty, but it was too much for the four of us and the pudding was very good as well. The service was wonderful as before. One minor drawback was the noise level here. The building was not acoustically designed properly and it was very difficult to converse with the serve staff. Parking was a bit easier in the basement garages (though we did run into a suv that couldn’t back out it’s tight spot next up a weight bearing post), which was clean and well lit. It was much easier to find a space than the chaotic lot on the ground floor. Our friends told us this is the best Chinese restaurant in LA area, so naturally we must give it try. I am generally not too keen on trying highly publicized places as most were overhyped, nonetheless, I came here with a wide open mind. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed, it is one of the best Chinese restaurants in LA area by a wide margin. Let’s start with the decor, which resembles an old time tea house from China with period furnishing and decorations. A nice touch. Next, the service was excellent, my tea cup was never empty for long and dishes were explained clearly. Finally, the food. I must say most dishes are common, but I could taste each ingredient distinctly and all ingredients were very fresh. The final dessert plate of 8 different items of 4 pieces each was very intriguing, but on the pricy side. The leek buns (韭菜盒子)was excellent with its very thin crust and simple but tasty fillings. The deep fried shiitake mushroom was something new for us and we totally enjoyed the dish. The cold appetizers were very well made as well. The boneless drunken chicken wings were very good. All in all, an excellent experience dinning here.
Best Chinese restaurant I have ever been in the USA. It's definitely worth the hype and Michelin star. The moment you walk in, the ambience transport you to tradition. I love the theme of the Qing dynasty and you have a thick book that's the menu. Sets the experience to top notch. It's not loud, and you can have easy conversations with quests. Our hostess was June and she is engaging, speaks beautifully in English and Mandarin, extremely polite. June was very attentive and gave us explanations of the dish if we had questions or how to eat it. The special dessert we ordered was so beautiful, we didn't know how to approach it, but June was so amazing to give us detailed instructions. The restaurant is really lucky to have her. I really love that everyone helps each other out with the dining experience, as June had different helpers, all with name tags and always make sure you understood the dishes or needed anything. It's extremely rare that the food you get completely matched the gorgeous pictures in the menu! The flavors was well balanced and great craftsmanship. They have the special dessert that was featured on Netflix Culinary class wars called Basi, but it's originally from China. The dish called Candy Lipu taro. It's not on the main menu, but it's definitely a must try experience. This is a must visit restaurant for anyone visiting the greater Los Angeles area.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in SoCal. Great presentation, beautiful decor, excellent service, private dining rooms, extensive menu, consistently prepared dishes. The best dish is probably the crispy shrimp and the braised pork belly. Wait, the secret tofu and the okra are really good too. Ordered the smoked beef ribs once and it was just OK, not worth it.
Great selection of Peking / Beijing palace dim sum, food and great service from entry to leave, waitress and waiters are well trained and polite. $102 for 4 dessert courses seems bit pricy not including tips, but I think the environment, service, food quality worth the price. Will definitely come back for other traditional iconic handmade course.
We have had visited this place in Beijing, and this location in LA is as authentic as the one in Beijing, maybe even higher in qualities. We ordered a variety range of dishes, the one mediocre one is the pan fried lamb, everything else is delicious. The environment is although slightly noisy but very well decorated and has a great vibe to it. It’s expensive, but I think it’s justified.
The fanciest and highest quality Chinese food in the area hands down. Bistro Na’s does the Na family name proud. The menu is extensive and every single item is so delicious. The crispy shrimp is their signature and definitely a must try. The assorted 8 desserts are all authentic and not too sweet. The interior is so gorgeous and traditional Chinese. Staff are very friendly and professional. Great for a date night or celebration.
Food is not bad. The service is really good, with the exception my fried rice was delivered really late. Like after all other food finished and we ready to go home and the food still has not arrived.. We complained and got the fried rice for free. The place is really nice. The servers are all very attentive.
This is definitely a fancier Chinese spot and the decor definitely has a vibe. Came to try this spot out on recommendation and had high expectations, but the dishes we tried were a bit mediocre for the price point. Definitely not much to write home about, but maybe it’s just specific to these dishes? Perhaps we will return to give the other dishes a try…
Overall great Chinese restaurant but nothing exceptionnal. The taste were pretty standard to the Traditional Chinese cuisine. I kinda feel like they choose to make smaller portion to look fancier and put higher prices. Definitely too expensive.
We chose Bistro Na's to welcome my best friend’s parents on their visit to Los Angeles, specifically because it was formerly a Michelin one-star Chinese restaurant (though it appears it no longer holds that status). The ambiance is elegant with traditional Chinese influences, and the dishes are beautifully plated and visually impressive. The cuisine leans toward Manchu imperial–style Chinese dishes, rather than typical American Chinese food. Flavor-wise, the execution was generally consistent. The clear standout—and an absolute must-order—is the Crispy Shrimp. The shrimp are generously sized, coated in an ultra-crispy exterior, while the inside remains tender and juicy. The sweet-and-sour sauce is well-balanced and clings nicely to the shrimp, making this by far the most memorable dish of the meal. Other dishes were more mixed. The Cold Jellyfish Salad, Old Beijing Smoked Duck Breast, and Hidden Treasure Lotus Root were solid. The Stewed Seafood Feast with Rice Crackers was rather mild and lacked depth, while the Stir-Fried Angus Beef and Na’s Braised Kurobuta Pork Belly leaned overly sweet and salty, best paired with rice. Peking Duck was unavailable that evening. If this is a dish you’re hoping to try, it’s best to call ahead and confirm availability before your visit. Service was the weakest part of the experience. While ordering was handled well, attentiveness dropped noticeably as the meal went on, and we frequently had to signal for basic needs like water, tea, and utensils. Most concerning was an interaction with a female server who responded in a loud and visibly impatient tone when I politely asked whether all dishes had been served. As we were dining with parents and elders, I chose not to address it at the table, but the moment felt uncomfortable and disrupted the atmosphere. Given that a service charge was already included for a large party, it was disappointing to feel that the level of attentiveness and professionalism did not reflect that expectation. Rather than feeling taken care of, the service at times felt rushed and dismissive, which stood out in an otherwise formal dining setting. It’s hard not to feel that service may be one of the reasons the restaurant no longer holds its Michelin star. While the food and setting still reflect a fine-dining standard, service consistency is essential at that level, and this is an area that clearly needs more attention. The final bill for seven people came to $650+, which, considering the food and service, does not represent strong value. This is very much a restaurant you visit for the ambiance and presentation rather than culinary excitement. Overall, Na’s Place works best for formal occasions—hosting parents, elders, or business-related dinners—where the setting and visual impact matter. It is undeniably a fancy, high-end Chinese restaurant that makes an impression, but service quality needs meaningful improvement. For everyday dining in Los Angeles, with so many excellent and better-value Chinese options available, it’s hard to justify returning.
This is definitely an over-rated Chinese restaurant in LA area. Yes, it was Michelin 1-star restaurant back in 2019 but no more. The food is okay, the service is better than food and the atmosphere is better than most Chinese restaurants in LA. It comes with a cost: price for each dish is very high too, you need to budget at least $120 per person for a decent dinner, much higher if you order these “market price” items. They serve so-called imperial/Beijing dishes, if you are in Beijing, these dishes are nothing. Unfortunately you are in LA and I guess that’s why they can fetch much higher price. Avoid it if you are a casual Chinese food lover. If you really want to eat so-called Imperial food, be my guest.
This restaurant boasts a stunning Chinese interior, creating a refined and elegant dining ambiance. We ordered a variety of dishes, and while some were flavorful, others fell flat. Hits: * Organic Sour Cabbage Pork Hot Pot - rich and flavorful * Chili Pork with Bamboo - well-balanced spice * Brisket with Quail Egg - tender and satisfying * Crispy Shrimp - perfectly fried with great texture Misses: * Okra, Smoked Pork Ribs, Spicy Chicken - lacking depth in flavor * Shredded Pork with Sweet Sauce - overly sweet with little complexity * Pheasant Noodle Soup - underwhelming The biggest disappointment was the service. We waited a long time without being checked on, which was frustrating. The worst part was the Peking duck situation--despite multiple interactions while rescheduling our reservation, no one informed us that it required a 10-day pre-order or that it had been unavailable for nearly a month. Only after arriving did we learn this, which is a huge oversight in customer communication and management. Overall, while the food had some highlights, the service and lack of organization left a bad impression. Not sure if I'd return.
I rarely give out poor reviews but my experience was worse than other much cheaper Chinese restaurants. 1) Wait Time: It would appear that there are two wait lists: one through an electronic device via Yelp, and a traditional written list. It seems to me that the written list move way faster than the Yelp list. And yes, we used the electronic one and there are people who came later than us would get a table before us. I walked inside the restaurant and noticed that there were quite a few open tables but no one was cleaning them up. 2) Food. We were there because of the Dine LA and we wanted to sample what they had to offer. It was a 5 item menu for 2 people: an appetizer, an entree, a carb dish, a dessert, and a drink. We've ordered the drunken chicken for appetizer, the crispy shrimp, the shrimp fried rice, a koi shape milk pudding for dessert, and a Pear drink. Only the crispy shrimp and the dessert were good. The drunken chicken was definitely sober. There was not even a hint of alcoholic aroma. Meat was dry and tasteless. Crispy shrimp was very good. The shrimp fried rice was the worst tasting fried rice that I have tried in my entire life. It was literally tasteless. The dessert was good but not great. The pear drink was so watered down and I could barely tasted any pear. 3) Service: Not the best. First of all the served the entree first instead of the appetizer and I don't know why. The table next to us ordered but later than us and they served everything all at once and the lady had to ask the server to bring the dessert later since there was no room for it, and we still don't have our dessert after we finished our fried rice for about 10 minutes. And my drink....I finished mine about 10 minutes it was served to our table and no server asked me if I need a refill or offer me water. 4) Parking: It's a small shopping center full of restaurants plus a gym. Parking is limited adjacent to the restaurants and shops but there are plenty of parking underground. I can understand why people do not want to park there since the entrance is a bit tight. There is actually an elevator if you don't want to take the stairs. 5) Atmosphere: It was nicely decorated but very noisy. Tables are on the smaller side, which is not typical since Chinese people usually order more dishes and share. Since this is a Michelin Star restaurant, I have higher expectations. I have been to a few Michelin Star restaurants in my lifetime and I was rarely disappointed to a point that I need to write a negative review. Many Asian people would come here simply because this is considered a "high end" restaurant.
The service here is genuinely good and attentive, which is the main reason I’m not rating it lower. Unfortunately, the food was a real letdown. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the dishes seem premade. The short rib tasted stale and was honestly difficult to get through. The cold chicken dish was mostly skin and also had a stale flavor. Both left such a bad taste in our mouths that it really ruined the meal overall. The tofu ribbon salad was delicious and easily the highlight. The fried rice was fine, nothing special but acceptable. It’s probably fine to try once out of curiosity, but overall it’s not a great place and not somewhere I’d go back to.
