I’m no Chinese noodle connoisseur but these were delicious. I heard about Lao and decided to randomly visit and was surprised to see the amount of people waiting outside for a table on a Sunday at 2pm in January. But they had immediate seats available outside with heaters. It’s the perfect hot, noodle stew for a cold day. Absolutely delicious.
This restaurant we found accidentally! And because when you come from Amsterdam en you are in Italy you wanna eat Italian 😂 but the interior looked so not Chinese and there was at lunchtime a row from 5 meter so we said we go tonight! The food was so good!!! Unbelievable and Amos our waiter is the best!
This Chinese restaurant truly surprised me with its modern twist on traditional cuisine. The dishes were beautifully presented, full of flavor, and perfectly balanced between authenticity and creativity. The atmosphere is trendy and stylish, making it a great place to enjoy both casual dinners and special evenings with friends. A fresh, new vibe for Chinese dining that I would definitely recommend!
The food was very unique we wanted a lot to eat there because it’s always full and they don’t take reservations. I recommend to come when they open because it’s always full with a long line. The menu is up to the point all very special ethical food I recommend a lot the ravioli and bao. Very recommended!
Lao in Torino was an incredible find a cozy spot serving some of the best Asian comfort food I’ve had in the city. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor and clearly made with care. We had the Dan Mian Mian, Chiuan Wei Niu Rou Mian, and the Xiao Long Bao dumplings and each dish was spot-on. The noodles were perfectly chewy, the broths rich, and the dumplings absolutely delicious with their juicy filling. We also had a bottle of white wine. The staff were also lovely attentive, kind, and efficient, which made the whole experience even better. If you’re craving bold, authentic flavors and a great vibe, Lao is a must-visit in Torino. Highly recommended!
I heard that the lady owner is from Shanghai and as a former long-time resident of the city I thought I ought to give the xiaolongbao a try. Watching them preparing it the minute you walked into the restaurant was a very positive sign - and it turned out to be very good, very juicy with skin that was not too thick. Aesthetically it was more local Shanghai-style than DTF-style which was quite charming. The spicy beef noodles were delicious, but I was a little bit disappointed with the lamb noodles as it tasted more like an Italian noodle dish with too much tomato sauce and though we asked for spicy it still wasn’t spicy enough. The 水晶虾饺 was tasty and made the Cantonese in me want to try the shiumai on our next visit. The serving staff was efficient and friendly, the young Italian male could even speak some Chinese. We started queuing up before they opened for lunch, so it was not a long wait. One suggestion would be to order your starters and mains separately so as not to have everything arrive at the same time. Very promising Chinese restaurant, we recommend!
Absolutely delicious food, very authentic Chinese. The service was amazing, I haven't seen such quick, precise and kind service in a while. Waiters speak good English, Puk was one of our servers and we were very happy for that. Everything arrived quickly ans the prices were very good. Only rhe chairs were uncomfortable with no back for the chair and one of the diners was a little cramped in the corner
After eating too much pizza and pasta we had craving for Chinese food so we went to this place without expectations and we were so surprised by both the authenticity of the food, the incredible taste, and the impeccable service. The place was full and we still got the full attention of the staff. The hostess, Puk, was charming enough to make us urge to go back there whenever we stay in Turin. Every dish has the option to make changes - whether it's removing or adding ingredients or even making the dish not spicy or vegetarian instead of meat. The waiters were lovely, so friendly and patient. Go there atleat once for the atmosphere and the incredible simple Chinese food. Thank you Lao for the wonderful experience!
We came to LAO for dinner last night, and the food was so incredible that we had to come back for lunch today! The xiao long bao were to die for🤤🫠💛, and the pork bao buns were so delicious, I didn’t want them to end ,they were so good, I forgot to even take a picture 😂😂! I have no words for the quality of the food if I could give 100 ⭐️ I would. The staff were also super nice and friendly. Can't recommend this place enough!👌🏻💛🔥
As someone who cherishes authentic culinary experiences, my visit to Lao in Turin was nothing short of enchanting. Nestled among the Italian eateries, Lao stands out like a rare jewel, and its brilliance comes from more than just the food. After several days of observing eager diners queuing up, my curiosity got the better of me, and I found myself in line. The brief wait did nothing to dampen my spirits, especially as we were welcomed by the owner herself, a Shanghai lady with a smile as warm as the dishes she serves. She shared stories of her homeland's cuisine with such passion that I felt transported before even taking a bite. We indulged in a feast of flavors, beginning with the light yet flavorful Zhu Rou Bao, a steamed pork bun that was the epitome of comfort food. Then came the Xiao Long Bao, delicate dumplings that burst with seasoned broth, a testament to the craft of Shanghai cooking. Opting for a vegan take on Dan Dan Noodles where the minced pork was replaced with smoked tofu and bamboo shoots, I was impressed by the rich, spicy layers of sesame and Sichuan sauce that coated every noodle—a vegan delight that didn’t skimp on authenticity. The Su Ma Po Dou Fu followed, a dish where tofu, mushrooms, and fermented soybeans danced in a chorus of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors, leaving my palate thoroughly invigorated. Dessert was a simpler affair, a slice of Ma La Gao that, while a touch too greasy for my liking, was a sweet end to a splendid meal. At EUR 44, including all the frills, this experience was worth every euro. Lao is more than a meal; it’s a slice of Shanghai served with a side of Italian charm. Can't wait to return for another round of those vegan Dan Dan Noodles!
Lao is an excellent restaurant offering authentic Chinese cuisine. It was created by Tingting Dai, who is also the founder of Oh Crispa! Recipes are typical of Shanghai and Sichuan traditions and the menu clearly labels the vegetarian and vegan dishes. The handmade veg Mian and Biang Biang Mian, served with bok choy, soy sprouts and chilli, are not to be missed. Other specialities at Lao include dumplings (dim sum) and bao. My favourite is Shui Jing Jun Gu Jiao (crystal ravioli), which are steamed with mushrooms and courgettes. Reservations are not possible. You have to wait in the queue, which is usually long.
It’s a new generation of Chinese food that is nice environment, good service and authentic food. Thought most of the clients are no-Chinese, the place is offering food stick to its original taste. Mainly it offers noodles which from northern China. There’s some other things from other area of China. Xiao Long Bao is okay. Xiao Guo Mi Xian I liked a lot
Arrived in the middle of the week for lunxh and had to wait almost 30 minutes for a table. The beef noodle aoup had a good flavour but the meat itself was too tough and they keft the coriander stalks. The xia long bau were far from traditional with the sauce and filling not being what you expect from a real xlb. Theur beer was very good
Good and authentic food. It’s hard to get a table, and they don’t take reservations. Nice location, but the dining rooms are cold in winter! In summer, it’s lovely to dine outdoors. We asked for forks because the wooden chopsticks are multi-use. After we finished eating, they asked us to leave because they needed the table (even though we hadn’t finished our wine), which I found quite rude.
