Very tasty food in a unique location. A more "local" option to Turtle Bay cafe - the menu is smaller but more focused, everything is high quality. Try the hot sauce!
Don't miss out this fantastic, delicious food!!! Everything is so fresh and the portions are very big. Everything we ate was so tasty. The best burritos de pollo I ever had. The special sauce is very hot, but 100% natural and homemade, as well as the ice cream. The place is very cozy to sit and watch the street and if you're lucky some squirrels. The ladies who run the place are soooo kind and caring.
We’ve been here three days and have been searching for excellent Mexican food and finally found it! This exceeded expectations. Fish tacos are light and perfectly fried just like in Baja California. The burrito is amazing. Banana milkshake is a must. Favorite meal of the trip by far.
We enjoyed an authentic Enchilda lunch. Humble, polite and caring service. Thank you!
Great little place to go eat amazing breakfast. The eggs were mixed with the bacon which was odd at first but ended up being amazing and the shake was a banana smoothly mixed with milk so it wasn’t overly filling. Our server had a little bit of a hard time communicating with us but she was still super nice.
A very good breakfast in this place, looks small but the food is great, the fruit plate es exquisite I have eggs with cheese and chorizo. I would recommend this place . Don’t park in the front there is a place where you pay 20 pesos if you are just going to eat
Muy bonito y encantador lugar! Vale mucho la pena.
El mejor servicio para auténtico cómoda mexicana
Excelente comida.
Rico sabor.
Homemade food. We tried the huevos rancheros, the waffles, and the fresh fruit!

Fruta súper fresca, personal amable y buenos licuados...
Se come.
This is a MUST visit in Akumel to eat!
A very short walk away from the beach clubs/bars is this small unassuming diner with a lovely waitress. We ate the chicken enchiladas and the fried fish (recommended by the waitress), and both were spectacular. Their home made hot sauce was simply delicious and packed a bit of a punch. Other guests around us had the fish tacos which looked awesome and the popsicles also seemed to be a bit. They accept cash and card and for us it was a much more appealing option than the overpriced beach bars. Enjoy!
Absolutely delicious food in a very quiet and peaceful setting. The hostess was so sweet and patient with our somewhat large group. All of it was amazing, but I personally loved the fish tacos! I’ll also be going back to eat again and buy a bottle of their hot sauce.
Always great place for a casual breakfast or lunch. Thankfully the prices here are more in line with the local economy rather than vacation visitors. Get in here for a good meal at a reasonable price. 10/3/24 We’re back after too long to Imelda’s new location for lunch and the food is better than ever. We had the pork enchiladas & fish filet for lunch. Both dishes were tasty with large portions. The homemade hot sauce elevated the meals. Thank you !
We enjoyed several meals here during our week long stay. Every one was delicious with highlights being the extraordinary chili relleno and a very authentic cochinita pibil. Also high marks to the mole sauce which we enjoyed quite a lot also. Plan to bring any alcohol you want to enjoy with your meal as they dont serve any. Many thanks to the lovely hospitality we enjoyed here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our late lunch experience Imelda’s. The food was local and authentic and affordable. Lunch plates are either $7 or $9 (US) and delicious. Fish tacos were great. The fish fillet was also excellent. Staff is so friendly and kind. Place is extremely clean. Right off main Plaza. Just ask around how to find it. Delightful. Update: Went again for her Friday night only (6pm and on) dinner. Tried the cochinita pibil which is the whole pig that is roasted in ground (similar to Hawaiian style) and then shredded and seasoned with delicious sauce and served in small cazuelas. Very reasonably priced as well at around $12. She also does chili rellenos and tamales on the Friday night dinner. Imelda and Glenda are lovely, hospitable ladies.
Absolutely delicious hearty food made with intention and love. One of the few small family owned places we could find with very affordable authentic flavor packed food. I got the fajitas with fresh squeezed orange juice and a fanta, and my husband got a burrito and coke which he ate SO FAST. They took note of our diary/cheese allergies and accommodated which was much appreciated. 🥰 We were able to talk to Imelda (I assume), the owner for awhile as we ate. She was so kind and sweet adding to a very welcoming experience. She told us her story of her restaurant and how she has been there for 27 years, as well as the recent trying times of the pandemic and community effort from some women who made a go fund me to help support her restaurant. It is so wonderful to see she was able to make it out with the help of community and people who were also touched by the delicious food and experience here. I hope nothing but more success for Imelda and for everyone to try her food! Thank you for such a delicious meal and talking with us. We cherish small family owned businesses with amazing food and we hope to be back very soon. ❤️
I am so happy we found Imelda’s while we were staying in Akumal. It’s a warm, family restaurant right off of the plaza near the beach and I appreciated that it was on the quieter side of the plaza and market. We ate as many breakfasts, lunches, and dinners (open later on Friday nights) as we could. For breakfast, the tostadas with eggs are perfect with fresh squeezed orange juice. Specials including the most delicious, lightest chile relleno I’ve ever had. For lunch, super light, crisp fresh fish tacos. I’m so glad we got a chance to try her specials including chicken pozole and cochinita pibil. Everything is made with care and it tastes like the very best home cooking. Thank you, Imelda! We will be back.
Had one of the best meals of our trip at Imelda’s cute place. Imelda is the cook and is helped by her daughter, the dishes are so delicious and typically home made. Extremely reasonable prices , especially more so given it’s location. Imelda and her daughter are also so lovely. Please visit this place and support a hard working local lady who whips up some amazing food 😀
This restaurant is amazing if you want authentic home cooked Mexico cuisine at very reasonable prices. We went today for breakfast and had wonderful tostadas as well as scrambled eggs Mexicano. We were so pleased with the food quality and the friendly welcoming feel from the family run establishment. I encourage everyone to stop by and support this local business that has been part of the community for over 20 years. We will be back!

The fish tacos and enchiladas we got were great! Just don't order the popsicles; I got a wicked case of food poisoning from the pineapple/piña one. I know it was the popsicle because my partner and I shared everything else we ate that day and he didn't get sick, just me, and it was the only thing he didn't eat.
Imelda's cannot be beat for "cheap and good" eats in Akumal. We like Imelda's home style Mexican food and friendly service.

Stopped for lunch. Very good value and authentic mexican food. Quick service, lovely staff with a limited menu which is good!
Stopped by around 9am wanting a quick breakfast. We were the only ones there. I ordered the French toast and the pancakes. Portions were ridiculously small for the price I paid. 115 pesos each. I got two pitiful pancakes with about half a chopped banana, and 5 hockey puck sized pieces of French toast also with half a sliced banana. I would’ve thought the portions to be bigger given the restaurant being anything but fancy. Felt like you’re eating in someone’s home.
Definitivamente no volveremos.
