Family favorite spot. With the fewer amount of ppl in the bldg, the smoke and noise factor have diminished drastically. Highly recommended taking advantage of the current tier restrictions for restaurants. Very fast check-in process and no wait to be seated. Currently taking reservations. Just need mask to enter and while walking around. They take your temp at entry, as of 9/26/20. New prices and new items. Happy hour is the best deal. Food and drinks discounted.
Absolutely love this Tustin gem. There are cheaper options for Asian barbecue, but no one beats Gyu-Kaku for selection. You can do all you can eat options that can get pricey or you can order individual items. Great choices: the hangar steak, duck, and pork belly. Don't forget to order the green onion rice, it's fantastic. Also, the scratch made marshmallows with multiple options to choose from make the s'mores just that much more of a must. Great for a date because it's intimate and the cooking your own food makes it fun. Service is attentive, and prices are fair. Go with friends and try a few things.
I have now been twice to this location in particular and it really is amazing. The staff is great, and the food is even better. It doesn't look like much when you first enter, but the whole restaurant is amazing. Do yourself a favor and go for the supreme tier. It's absolutely worth every penny. The secret pot meat is my favorite! The last time I went, we even got a complimentary tea. Kudos management and the staff!
Gyu-ku has a good selection of a la Carte items. The happy hour is great you can definitely get a good selection, for sure. The Happy Hour Menu is plenty enough for me. The waitresses just the whole experience was really nice from the hostess to our waiters. The environment was totally chill and kickback. We had the stores at the very end with this complimentary tea (so good). For my first time here it was a great experience. I'll be back to try some more meats.
*OC Restaurant Week review* We haven’t been here in years because of the ever-growing number of Korean/Hotpot/BBQ restaurants in OC. We are so happy to discover they are participating in Restaurant Week. $35 per person for dinner ($25 lunch) includes rice, salad, miso soup, Gyu sushi, appetizer choices gyoza, spring rolls, wonton etc, BBQ items beef, ribeye, chicken, shrimp, veggies and dessert (vanilla or green tea ice cream). All the meats were good quality, tender and tasty. We also ordered happy hour cocktails for $6.75 (regularly $9) Thank you to Bryan (front desk) and our server Long for their friendly and cheerful service. Location is on Newport Blvd off the 5 freeway x Newport. Follow for more food + travel: IG:@i_therefore_conclude
Just as a general idea, you pay for premium meat cuts so that you can cook it the way you want it. Plenty of options for AYCE and for some items it's limited to 1 plate per person. The appetizers are delicious and the garlic noodles would be a necessary carb to go with all the meat consumed. When cooking, make sure to be mindful as it isn't like kbbq and your meat will char faster on this grill.
Very nice Japanese Style BBQ restaurant. Service was great. Waiters are professional and treat us as VIP. Food is also great. Many different styles of beef, pork, and chicken. They are all fresh and delicious. Default condiments have space to improve. Overall, that's a nice place to kill time with families.
I’d been craving AYCE bbq, and I was reminded of how much I loved going to Gyu-Kaku back when I lived in LA. It had been a couple of years since my last visit, so I checked their menus online and was happy to see they still offer AYCE, happy hour deals, à la carte options, and lunch specials. We went in the late afternoon for their lunch AYCE and were seated right away. For our first round, we ordered a few appetizers and plates of meat. The cucumber and cabbage salad was just as refreshing and addictive as I remembered. The marinated meats leaned a bit on the sweeter side, so next time we’ll probably ask for lighter marinade, or even go non-marinated (if allowed). The service was attentive, and as we ate, the restaurant gradually filled up with more customers, adding to the lively atmosphere. We wrapped up our meal with ice cream and s’mores, which brought back all the nostalgia. Overall, it was a great visit, and we’ll definitely be back!
Bryan P was our server and he was actually the best ever! He recommended so many super good meats and side dishes to us and they were absolutely amazing! Super good energy and was an angel. Meat quality was really good and the beef tongue definitely was my favorite. 10/10 would go again with friends :)!
The food was really good, it was my first time getting to go to a BBQ place like this and I really enjoyed the process. We tried the pork dumplings which were delicious (and eaten too quickly to catch a photo of) and the garlic noodles which was also really flavorful. The meat itself was pretty darn tasty as well, and honestly I'd probably have eaten a bunch more if not for the only downside. I do wish the plates had a bit more but that's okay, over quality was great and prices felt fair. And that only downside was the staff. We were pretty much abandoned at one point and had to ask multiple staff for our server -whom never returned. Couldn't order any drinks or food after our initial order, and had to wait 30+ min to get the check.
Stopped in for my first visit during lunch on a weekday and was very pleased with my experience. The lunch combo specials are reasonable and offer a lot of choices. The come with a salad, soup, and rice and the 2-item (12.95) was plenty for me. I ordered the rib-eye and one other miso beef. I preferred the rib-eye seasoning over the miso one. The salad was fresh and vibrant. The soup was just okay for miso soup, but I don’t expect too much. We cooked the meat at our table and added a side of spinach and garlic which was really good too. Service was prompt and attentive. The beer mugs were frosty! Overall a solid choice for a hearty lunch at a great price!
Okay place but the manager is a really nice guy. Comparatively smaller than the other locations. Won’t honor most of the rewards offered on the app. Food is mostly the same as other locations. The person on the next table kept playing a video very loud on his phone and the servers didn’t say anything to him despite me requesting them to ask him to keep it down.
Our recent friends dinner at Gyu-Kaku provided an exceptional Japanese BBQ experience. The outstanding service we received, starting with our attentive waitress and her seamless handover to another server during her break, set a positive tone for the evening. We explored the dinner menu, which offered a wide range of tantalizing meats that we grilled ourselves. The restaurant's environment added to the overall positive experience. Gyu-Kaku featured a cozy and inviting atmosphere with well-spaced tables, providing an intimate setting for our family dinner. The tabletop grills, where we personally grilled the meats to perfection, added an interactive and fun dimension to the evening. The warm, dimmed lighting created a pleasant ambiance that made us feel relaxed and comfortable.
The food was good, we ate bunch of it. But our server was not coherent at all. We ordered 2 meat lovers menu which is for 2 people, and we were a party of 4. Each package should've arrived with a 6 meet plates, but our table only got 10. When we explained this to the server he looked confused. It was very chaotic. The rice arrived very late even though we kept asking. Some of the meat were delicious some were not. I would recommend the restaurant but i dont think I will go there again. I hope when you try it you will get a better server than ours.
The food was great, the service was horrible, we ordered a lunch combo for 2 that comes with 2 soups, 2 cups of rice, salad bowl, and 6 servings of meat. We had to ask for the rice which was not delivered, no one came to check on us through out the meal even though there wasn't many customers at the time and when we called for service and asked for a water refill we did not get it. I'm pretty sure we were supposed to get desert as part of the combo, which we did not get. Servers were too busy chatting amongst each other than caring for their guests. P.S. the food was great!
This place was horrible!!! I have ate at many different gyu restaurants and I would never go back to this one. The inside was so filthy everything from the floor to the tables were sticky. The building had exposed wires and wing nuts hanging everywhere, there was holes cut it to the ceiling and side walls. Chunks of plaster broken and missing and this is all before I even get to the service. The place wasn’t even busy but about halfway through my meal my waiter disappeared after 30 mins I found another one just to be told that my waiter left for the day and they didn’t have anyone else to assign to my table. The food was just ok half of it tasted like it had been sitting out a bit to long nothing like how most gyu restaurants are. I hope that people who eat here don’t let this one stop you from going to a different one the foods normally really good
I booked this in advance for a business dinner and it was a disaster. The grill was filthy, the tongs were crusted, and the sauces were sticky and unclean. I politely asked the waiter with glasses and a black COVID mask for water to take my cancer medication and he was incredibly rude. I told him I have stage four cancer and needed hydration — he brushed me off. I lost my client over this unprofessional environment. I paid $235 and left a tip only because one amazing server got my Arnold Palmer fast and treated me with respect. I will not return. Gen Korean BBQ is cleaner, more professional, and worth every penny.
