Butter chicken was excellent. Rich, creamy, and flavorful. Rice was fresh and flavorful, not hard or dry. Naan was perfect. I will definitely order this meal again. Portion size was good. Met a friend there who I hadn't seen in years, so we sat there for hours catching up. The staff continued to serve us water and didn't bring our check until we asked for it. This was much appreciated and I look forward to returning soon. Great experience.
We did order today mix vegetables, Methi Malai Paneer, garlic naan, paneer pakora, mixed pakora. Specially they suggested try Methi Malai Paneer, it’s delicious.
Great food! Our server Shivani was very helpful and nice.
What a wonderful experience! The bald guy was awesome! Parteek was an amazing waiter!
Everything was great! The service was the star of the show. All the staff were really attentive. The cocktails were good - we ordered a Moscow Mule and Margarita. The food was also awesome. We first got the Veggie Combo appetizer. It came with three different apps. Two were ok, but one stood out. Next time I would just get the Veggie Pakora. We got the Garlic naan, goat cheese naan, butter chicken, and basmati rice. That was all so good, and very filling for 2. We were stuffed and had leftovers boxed up. We’ll be back again.
I had heard of and seen this place numerous times, but had never actually stopped in to try it. My girlfriend and I finally decided to try something new, so Clay Oven Grill it was. Walking through the doors, you can definitely smell the curry-like aromas. The restaurant itself is very inviting and open with a large display of wine and liquor immediately visible. They were quick to see us and take our drink order. The menu itself can be a bit intimidating. There are so many different dishes, it’s a bit difficult to decide. Being that it was our first time, I went with their specialty of Chicken Tikka Masala (medium spice) and my girlfriend went with the Veggie Korma. Both came out fairly quickly and steaming hot. The chicken masala was so delicious. The creamy tomato sauce is very smooth and flavorful. Medium had a nice slickness, but nothing overwhelming at all. The chicken chunks were tender and seared to perfection. The veggie Korma was good as well, but had a very distinct flavor. The peas and broccoli were the strong notes coming through. Overall, a very nice experience and I plan on going back to try some of their other entree offerings. Prices are great for the amount of food you get. If you like Indian food, then I highly recommend you give them a try!
Amazing food, incredibly fast, and awesome service. Definitely would come here again!
You can never go wrong with Clay Oven! One of our family favorites—always delicious. Highly recommend!
Best food ever! Never any complains. Everyone is super welcoming. I tired the garlic naan and chicken tikka masala. The naan is the most soft and right amount of crunchy at the same time. I love spice and got medium spice. Easily one of the best Indian restaurants in Northern California.
I only gave this place overall 5 Star and minus one for the Atmosphere because the bathroom wasn't up to my standard, but the place is cool, the staff is great, and the food is fantastic. I love the butter chicken. I will definitely go here, again. I'd like to mention that my friend and I came about an hour and a half until closing and we did not feel rushed to leave. I came from Sac, he came from Vallejo. We closed the place down, but they were checking on us and making sure we didn't need anything before the kitchen closed, they didn't hurry us to sign the check or pack our food. I miss places like this, real family operated businesses that just enjoying what they do. Thank you for a good first time experience and delicious food.
Tuff place. Excellent sevice. Would definitely visit again. Great servise. Nice atmosphere. 10/10 food.
Honestly never been a big Indian food fan but I decided to try this place today. I got the tandoori chicken, appetizer sampler and garlic naan. Everything was so good. Very good portions for the price, very well worth it. This is one of my favorite restaurants now, that chicken is amazing. Can’t wait to try more.
Walking in was soothing. The large TV are playing sports. I'm smelling the aromas of savory indian food. Omg! My mouth was watering. My taste buds were already juiced up lol. There customer service was A1 I've heard about this establishment Trying there food. Wow! Amazing. Home made. Is one thing. But homemade that's a chef
Food was excellent. The service was very good. We had chicken and vegetarian dishes as well as two types of bread and fried chicken wings appetizer and everything was excellent. If you are in vacaville and have not come in here yet you are missing out. Do yourself a favor and try clay oven as soon as possible.
They serve delicious Indian food. My wife and I like Tikka Masala, Korma and Chicken Tandoori the most. Rest of my family prefer Coconut curry and get Jalfrezi sometimes. Lamb is my favorite protein and I like spicy food and order the spiciest level but it seems mild to medium spicy in my opinion.
We came here to celebrate an engagement with friends and family and had a wonderful time! Delicious food and wonderful service. Shivani was lovely!
Title: A Must-Visit Spot in Vacaville - Clay Oven Grill & Bar Review: Every time I find myself in the Vacaville area, Clay Oven Grill & Bar is my go-to spot for either lunch or dinner. Located at 400 Orange Dr, this restaurant consistently delivers in terms of both quality and flavor. Although they don't offer a buffet for lunch, they do have some excellent specials that more than make up for it. The food is prepared with attention to detail and the flavors are rich and authentic. Whether you're into spicy dishes or something more mild, there's something on the menu for everyone. The pricing is another point worth mentioning; it's very reasonable given the quality of food. You get good value for your money, and the experience feels complete without breaking the bank. If you're someone who enjoys a drink with your meal, you'll be pleased to know that they have a full bar. The drink selection is as good as you'd hope for, complementing the food perfectly. In summary, Clay Oven Grill & Bar is not just another restaurant in Vacaville. It's a dining experience that keeps me coming back for more. Highly recommended. Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5
This was our first visit here. We had no clue about what to order. Thank goodness our daughter did. Everything was delicious 😋 we enjoyed the veggie egg rolls, chicken Tikka masala, paneer saag, and the butter chicken. Our server was very nice and helpful. We will definitely return and highly recommend it.
Great food with both the appetizers and the main dish. I went there with a large work group and the food was wonderful. I don't eat Indian food hardly ever, but this experience has made me want to frequent restaurants like this.
We are regulars for a reason. The food is fresh & delicious...the service is super friendly & it's a great atmosphere. You can't go wrong at Clay Oven!
Hands down one of the BEST Indian restaurants I’ve ever been to! Must try!!! The Samosa Chaat was unbelievable. The Saag paneer and the lamb dishes were awesome!!
We each got different dishes and shared to be able to sample as many dishes as possible and they didn't disappoint. Every dish was delicious.
Sooooooooo delicious!!!!!!! If I could give then 6 stars a absolutely would. The star of the show was definitely the malai chicken!(medium heat) chicken was tender ,sauce was celestial the aroma alone was just mind blowing! This place was a delightful treat. Plus! You can bring all 4 of your wives here with no judgements!!!! It's the Taj Mahal of food!
This place has passion. The food, the service the ambiance, they’re open late and their prices are reasonable, portions are generous. I tried several dishes and they’re all outrageous.
The food here is AMAZING! I've gone twice now and both times were 5 star experiences. The best Indian food in the area, hands down. Also, the service is really good. The manager is very hands on with customer service and offering new things. They also have a nice wine list and the prices are reasonable. The food, service, and dining experience make it worth every penny. We'll be back again and again!
I cannot believe I had not gave this place a chance! This is some of the best food I've ever tasted. I can say that I absolutely love Indian food now. I tried random stuff and none of it failed me. I tried the coconut chicken curry and the veggie samosas. On top of the delicious food the waiter "Niten" was very kind, patient, and charismatic. I will definitely be going back soon and thanks to this place it opened up new doors for me.
I have lived here in Vacaville since 2015 and have, until today, never eaten here. As I have widened my food choices to include several things commonly found in Indian restaurants more recently, I tried the Salmon Tikka Masala, Basmati Rice and Garlic Naan bread. The table service was speedy and accurate. As to the food, the flavor was strong, I am pleased to say for everything and a quality effort was done plus the restaurant was very clean and larger than I expected. The ingredients were potent and the temperature, texture and flavor balance was perfect. I had medium spice and in summary, the overwhelmingly positive eating experience will make me a new permanent customer of theirs and I look forward to trying other menu items in the future. Finally, they do offer military discounts. If you love food from India, this place is not to be missed.
Great food! We had the tandoori chicken tikka and the samosa. The coriander mint chutney was freshly prepared. The chicken Tikka was juicy and tender, not overcooked like most places. Mildly spiced and perfect char on the outside. They Tikka is probably oven roasted and not on charcoal, so if you wanted charcoal, this is not the place. Service was a bit slow, but I would like to think that's because they made everything fresh unlike many other places. I would not order anything salmon, salmon was not fresh, had a very strong taste which is not the case for fresh salmon. Order everything but the salmon and this place is really good 👍. The Paneer Tikka was excellent too, must order entree
Best butter chicken, Naan bread. Everything was delicious. Server was great and got everything quickly. Samosa’s were great too! The best Thai tea too!
Shivani was Amazinggg. Awesome recommendations. I always go with chicken masala but wanted to change it up, her recommendation HIT THE SPOT. Quick kind service. The atmosphere is so chill, good music, dim lighting, pretty warm light perfect for date night or a girls night out. Highly recommend!!
We always stop here on our way to Tahoe. It’s one of our favorite spots for Indian food. We’re not very familiar with Indian cuisine, but our server was excellent at recommending dishes when we first visited.
Best Indian restaurant in all of greater Sacramento area and probably the Bay Area too. Their food is authentic Indian taste, and the service is great. The staff is very professional, and the restaurant is very clean. This is our go-to place for Indian food.
Really good food — tastes exactly like “Shaadi ka khana”. Also INDIANS BEWARE.. there spicy is REALLY REALLY SPICY unlike the other Indian restaurants in the US. The kind lady who took my order warned me.. but I didn’t listen thinking it won’t be that much… but 😵😵
Food was amazing! But service was better. My husband ordered spicy, not realizing they really mean SPICY and the manager was amazing. He made a small mild curry to mix in to calm the spicy. Will definitely be going back.
It was such a relief to find a restaurant that feels calm from the moment you sit down. The table service is relaxed and attentive, and the interesting interior architecture clearly considers acoustics. The background music stays at a low, tasteful volume, so you can enjoy a conversation at your table without ever needing to raise your voice. It made sharing the meal feel especially enjoyable.
The food here is consistently good and the price point is reasonable. However this is not somewhere to go for a quick meal as the staff believes that you should sit relax and enjoy your food. Great place for a date or a bigger party as they can accommodate with a semi private room that seat about 20 (I think). My go to is the chicken tikka masala but this time I ordered chicken saag and I did not regret it. Absolutely amazing.
My friends and I were looking for a good place to eat and enjoy the night's football game. We found this place by chance and the food was excellent. We ordered starters, salads, and main dishes, drinks, And dessert and the prices were very reasonable. Very fresh and flavorable food.and great service. Nice ambiance as well. Definitely recommend.
Generous portions - restaurant part is sparkling clean. Food very tasty - we know our Indian food. Service excellent and food delicious. We happened by this place for lunch. Will return. Kamal (our waiter) was detailed oriented, friendly and professional.
Pecorino Pete and his little cheese head, Taleggio asked me to swing by on my way back from Yuba City, and my first thought was...how'd they find out I have an ice chest full of salmon! Well, I was just 15 minutes away and he called and said meet us at the Clay Oven Grill & Bar and he'd spit for dinner! Well, I was all in, I had a wonderful chicken dish, and it was amazing! 5 ☆☆☆☆☆
We had a very enjoyable meal here. We definitely will come back. The place was very busy on a Friday evening but we were seated after a very short wa( no reservation). Service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. The menu is extensive, the portions were larger than I expected. We started with Paneer pakoras, very tasty, not outstanding. I love tandoori food, so we ordered lamb boti kabob. A bit tough but VERY tasty. We also ordered chicken biryani, which had a very large amount of chicken. It was excellent. And we added garlic basil naan, very yummy. We enjoyed everything, but for just two of us it was more food than we needed. The flavors of everything was wonderful
Attending my friend's wedding i got to know about Clay Oven Grill and Bar since the food for the evening was catered by them. Finger licking , lip smacking food served at its finest best. That would still be an understatement. Started my first round with the appetizers which there was an array (a combination of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options) of, though i happened to pick the fish and paneer pakora along with the chicken tandoori pieces . The sauce that was served on the side had absolute amazing flavors written all over it. The chicken tandoori had flavor undertones of being prepared in a tandoor which you could tell right away. Can't get any more authentic with the way it needs to be prepared. The pakoras had just the right amount of crisp and the taste with the spices used during the preparation added gold to glory. Pretty phenomenal. Picked up a cup of tea along the way (though there was filter coffee on offer too, which i happened to sip late in the evening and boy it turned to be just amazing) which had authenticity written all over it as it was neither too strong nor too mild and just the perfect taste as well. Didn't stop at round 1 as my belly rumbled for more and round 2 had home run written all over it!! A few events and a couple of hours later , dinner was served (eagerly awaited :) ). There were Dal Makhni , Butter Chicken , Goat curry (can't get over it) , a mixed veggie platter along with a couple different type of Naan options (namely plain and Garlic) with salad , green chutney (cilantro) and raita (yogurt with some finely sliced onions, spices and herbs) to enjoy. I started with Goat curry and some garlic naan and you could tell that the chef/cook who would have prepared it knew what he was doing. At times when i have eaten goat curry at weddings/receptions/catered events, you get that smell from the cooked goat/lamb meat which at times can throw people off and there wasn't even the slightest of traces of that as my nose is pretty sensitive to these nitty-gritty nuances. The curry packed a punch and the meat fell off the bone with the slightest of nibbles which definitely made it an enjoyable experience rather than a tussle. Naans were perfect and just the right and not overwhelming which they can be during such large gatherings. Absolute measure of good quality control being administered!! Next up for grab was butter chicken and i added some Dal makhni in a bowl along side and tasted the same with plain naan. The chicken had a very authentic flavor which was very different from a conventional butter chicken that you would get at any restaurant out there. This was more subtle though every chicken piece that i had was very tender and juicy (at times in the past i have had variations of butter chicken , where the chicken pieces become thick as rock and are a big turn off) and melted in the mouth at the first bite. The Dal makhni was laced with ghee and definitely the aroma was filling the air. To top it rasmalai and carrot halwa were being served as the desserts for the evening. I happened to pick a couple of rasmalai pieces along with a big spoon of the halwa and the bar just kept getting raised to a new high!!! The time that the team at Clay Oven would have spent preparing these dishes definitely showed in the output. Serving this top notch quality food with an extremely humble and guest focussed crew wrapped up this special evening and must say kudos and great job to the folks at Clay Over Grill and Bar. I would love to drive down to the restaurant some time soon and would recommend this over any other restaurant that you think would even be a close second, since if they could maintain such high quality with such a large gathering they definitely would do so and more in a scaled down and a restaurant setting. So long!! Review from our last visit on 05/27/24) Google enforces a limit of characters in the review though I have detailed our last visit in my most recent Yelp review of the business. An absolutely amazing experience that we will definitely repeat!!!
First time at Clay Oven so happy we stopped in for a treat of a dinner. The restaurant has a vibrant atmosphere nice decor. Our server was excellent and so quick and informative. My husband and I absolutely LOVED everything we ordered from the Coconut Curry Chicken, the Goat Curry, the super bullet Nan and garlic Nan breads, glass of Monterrey red wine, the appetizer all so delicious and the spiced perfectly!! The portions were very generous and the jasmine white rice so light and fluffy. The prices were incredibly affordable! We highly recommend this fabulous cuisine!
Definitely 5 star worthy. Service, quality, quantity, ambience, freshness, and flavors were all top notch. The tandoori fish was amazing. Rack of lamb was just perfect. Ordered too much food. Will enjoy it for the next 2 days. A little too far for us but will definitely go back. Thank you for a great dinner.

Good location, decent food, service is good, ambience better than most Indian restaurant, well priced.
Great food, personable service. We go there 2-3 times a month. The food is very well prepared. My wife and I have been coming to the Clay Oven for over five years. I am happy to see they were able to withstand the COVID-19 shutdown. We recently visited (August 2021) and enjoyed the Chicken Saag (spinach and chicken) and lamb methi. The service is good and the food prep is always great. We have never had a bad meal. I also enjoy the Mango Lassi, a mango drink that is thick like a shake. Very refreshing. And, they made some updates to the building by adding an outdoor patio and replacing some indoor flooring. We enjoy the Clay Oven and hope you do too.
Was seated quickly. Took awhile to take our order. Struggled to get a refill of water. Food all came quickly after. The tandoori was a bit dry. Tomato soup was yummy. Lamb menti was tasty! Naan was good! Mango Lassi could be cheaper since it's out of a can. All in all, would come back. Does support servicemembers/first responders! A++
I will say that this is an elevated Indian restaurant. The ambiance inside is really nice and beautiful the food tasted elevated. I have a favorite authentic indian place nearby my place so if I will compare this, my favorite indian place is still the best. But hey their food is great too.
Absolutely loved our experience at the restaurant today — the ambience was so inviting and well thought out, the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Truly a wonderful dining experience
This place has some great Indian cuisine. Chicken Tikka Masala- this is a staple in any Indian restaurant and Clay Oven does it very well. Combined with the rice and garlic basil naan, this dish is fantastic. 4/5 Methi Malai- the people who like this curry say that it is very well done. It’s not my favorite, but that is just because there are always some things I’d rather have instead. 3/5 Samosa Chaat- this chickpea dish is listed as an appetizer, but it’s big enough for a meal of you want. Tasty and filling. A good vegetarian option. 4/5
I've been going here for years. It's been great to see the place grow! Today they have a great atmosphere, good for couples and lunch with coworkers. Take out is also popular. They have a full bar with a variety of options, but I have not tried any. I usually order their veggie dishes. The spinach paratha was delicious! Entrees come with rice and the portion is pretty large. Food doesn't take long but definitely allow for at least 15min wait time if it's not busy.
Very good and attentive service, curries were more saucy than Im used to and they had no rose lassi :( but otherwise good flavors would take family here
We have been to Clay a few times and do enjoy the food. Service can be inconsistent, but not a big deal. The samosas are always good to get you going. Our kids love the sag paneer and dal makhani (which comes with a dollop of butter you can mix in). The bhindi masala is also quite good - with lots of onions. You won't go wrong with the butter chicken either. The dishes come with rice at no extra cost. You should try the spinach paratha, it is nice and crispy.
The Clay Oven - A Hidden Gem in Vacaville I recently visited The Clay Oven, an Indian restaurant located in the same parking lot as a Motel 6 in Vacaville. I'll admit I was initially hesitant about the location, but this unassuming spot turned out to be a hidden gem with delicious food and attentive service. I dined on the patio on a rainy Friday evening. The patio was entirely empty, so I had the space all to myself. The restaurant had lit up the outdoor fire lamps, which provided warmth against the dreary weather. Soft Indian music played in the background, lending to a serene ambience. I started with a mango lassi, which was thick and creamy with the perfect sweet-tart balance. For my entree, I ordered the chicken curry, which had tender pieces of chicken in a rich and savory tomato-based sauce. It looked more like masala to be honest. The garluc naan bread was freshly baked in the tandoor oven and arrived piping hot at my table. It was so buttery. The service started off a bit shaky, with some confusion about my order. However, my server quickly corrected it and remained attentive throughout my meal, politely refilling my water and clearing plates efficiently. While the service needs some polishing, the staff was genuinely kind and eager to please. Overall, The Clay Oven exceeded my expectations. The cooking techniques and flavors were clearly authentic and crafted with care. The ambience was calm and refined. And despite the unlikely location next to a motel, this restaurant is worth seeking out for exceptionally tasty Indian fare in Vacaville. It's a hidden gem amidst the ordinary. I'll definitely be back to further explore their extensive menu.
We were on the lookout for a dinner spot when I discovered Clay Oven Grill and Bar, so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant offers plenty of parking. After a brief wait to be seated, about 10 minutes, the receptionist showed us to our table. We then waited another 15 minutes for our order to be taken, followed by an additional 10-15 minutes for our food to arrive. I ordered chicken wings as an appetizer, along with butter chicken, tandoori chicken, saffron rice, and butter naan. The food was excellent, and we really enjoyed the mango lassi. Overall, it was worth the wait, but I hope they can improve the wait times in the future.
It was okay experience. Nothing great or extraordinary about food. I like the interiors and seating space they have. The service was also great. We ordered chicken biryani which comes with lots of onions and capsicum and did not taste good at all. Non-veg appetizers platter was okay. Good quantity.
I went to this restaurant after reading the reviews and with really high expectations. Overall the food was disappointing. I feel like we caught the kitchen staff on a bad day. Overall 3.5 rating would have been most appropriate. The appetisers, dessert & the breads were excellent. The main course entrees were disappointed for one reason or the other. The butter chicken had good curry but chicken was stale, the goat curry was great flavour but the meat was chewy, the chilli chicken was extremely spicy despite asking for medium spice level. The kulfi was actually just plain mango icecream. I feel like I need to try this place another day and time for a better experience. But based what we were served today I can’t rate it better than 3.5 and it was a disappointing experience.

Place is nice and most importantly one of the only dog friendly Indian places we found there. Food tastes good and decent quantities, decently priced. Service is completely lacking. We had to literally get up from the patio and go in to ask for water and to get plates and dishes cleared out. Can be better.
Employees do not act like their jobs. The food was good, but LOTS of bones. The restrooms have urine on the floors and needed lots of attention. Expensive for a family

Maybe I'm just poor or something idk but these meat portions are terrible! I ordered chicken Tikka masala and the price even went up since before but the portions are horrendously small. I got all sauce with a little meat and I'm supposed to be full for dinner. It forces me to order 2 orders of masala and then im just stuck with a bunch of masala sauce and like 1 actual portion of meat. Picture attached is a take out bowl COMPLETELY empty of meat. Notice how it's still full. That's not right.. I recommend trying this place in Dixon called Punjabi Dhaba. Their meat portions are EXTRAORDINARY. But their mild is a little warm. But they hook it up!
Went with family, group of 4 around 2pm, we had to sit ouside because we came with our dog, we wait 20 minutes and nobody came to take the order I had to go inside the restaurant 2 times until server took the order the second time I went in, food came fast after the order was placed. Goat cheese naan came with hair inside. Regular service, ok food and the hair in the naan not expect it at all

Food quality not good smell was weird and had some bits of blood in the tandoori chicken I don’t recommend.
The place wasn't busy at all. Staff was not friendly. I waited at least 15 minutes. Still didn't have a waiter or waitress asked me if I needed anything so I walked out.
We walk in and i see the busboy cleaning a table. He put the tub on the table and wipes the seats off. Using the same cloth he wipes the table top off? I told the manager he said the cloths are clean. WHAT. I will never eat there again.
This is the worst place to have dinner, even if you are starving and just driving through on I-80. We decided to go there because of the reviews we read. When we arrived, the host told us the wait would be 10 minutes. After 10 minutes had passed, we had to remind them we were waiting for a table. They then seated us. After being seated, we waited another 10 to 15 minutes for a server to take our order. Our server took our order at the same time as two other tables. A short while later, more tables were seated. We saw the first table that had ordered with us get their food. Then, about 15 minutes later, the second table got their food. We thought the restaurant was just busy and that we should be cooperative, but we ended up waiting almost 45 minutes in total and our food still never arrived. We asked our server about our order, and he said it was "almost ready." However, we then saw a newly seated table receive their food before us. We asked another staff member why the new table had been served first, and we were told we would have to wait another 10 minutes. When we questioned this, the server responded in a very rude manner, saying, "If you don't want to wait, you can leave." And we have to walk away from this place. I truly believe this restaurant is racist and that the staff serves customers based on their race or appearance.
