Place to eat in Southbank! This restaurant brings a cool Spanish vibe to the London riverside. Carefully selected tapas menu, offering a bit of everything (seafood, meat, veggies, cheese...). Each plate looks beautiful and is brought down to perfection. Rich & tasty flavours, simply delicious. Nice staff, very welcoming and happy to help with any questions regarding the menu. We will definitely come back!
We came here for a celeberation meal and the food and service was absolutley immaculate! When telling the staff that my Dad was hard of hearing and therefore struggled to hear in the middle of the room they kindly moved us towards a wall and where very helpful and friendly the whole night. The food was amazing - I specifically reccomend the padron peppers, prawns and aubergine but everything was delicious and fully worth the price. I would just reccomend to try keep the door closed or partially ajar as it got a bit chilly, but apart from that the atmosphere was lovely. Great and unique decor. Would come again, thank you :)
Fantastic food – every dish was fresh, full of flavour and beautifully prepared. The service was equally impressive: friendly, attentive and welcoming without being intrusive. A really lovely atmosphere and an all-round great dining experience. Highly recommended!
Great family run tapas restaurant. Service was extremely effective, staff friendly and although some portions are on the small side others are on the bigger size so with the prime location in mind and the quality of the experience the ££ rating and value were spot on and totally worth it, so much better than the plethora of chains in the area. To note the service charge is added to the bill but you can't default the service! Deffo worth a visit.
I had friends visiting who wants to eat in the center. I am always super skeptical about any restaurant in central London as they are usually average touristic traps with mediocre quality. This one is an outlier. The very first thing you notice is the menu : 1 page. Few but very well curated selection. Everything we tried (mostly the sea platters) were tasty and well prepared. I would definitely reccomend.
Para Bailar La Gamba! This shiny, happy place is a must for any London visit. Go for the sublime sunsets, views of the Thames, delicious vermouth, outstanding pan con tomate (perfection), charcuterie board and whatever takes your fancy. All great, including the charming staff, customers and atmosphere. Loved our sit down meal the first time, still in love the second time, with tapas at bar washed down with lashings of the best vermouth I've tasted and excellent white (and red) rioja. Quality. Vamos!
Very pleasantly surprised by this Spanish tapas restaurant on the South Bank @ the Royal Festival Hall. Far from being the usual overpriced chain offering in this location, La Gambas is a real quality offering with genuine staff offering good service, good value generously portioned tasty food in pleasant surroundings. We went as a large group of 11 and had the best time, but it would easily work well for couples and smaller groups. Do give it a try if you fancy something different to the run of the mill chain options.

Miguel and the team are fantastic!
Excelente, buenas tapas, buen ambiente, buena atención.
Comida variada y buena cantidad y calidad. Españoles, vengan a comer a LA GAMBA!!
Came here for a meal before a show at the National Theatre. Dishes are very generous. Lovely food, far superior to the many chains nearby. We sat near kitchen, which was fun watching the chefs and got to see the other dishes we'll order next time we come. Service great and attentive and quick. It was very busy for a Tuesday night, glad we had booked in advance. We'll definitely be going again next time we are in Southbank.
I took my family to spend New Year’s Eve at La Gamba, and it was our first time there — but definitely not the last. The atmosphere was amazing, and the staff were absolutely wonderful. A special shout-out to Dominik, who was incredibly kind and attentive. I also want to take a moment to sincerely thank the entire team for working on New Year’s Eve so that families like ours could be together. I know that can’t always be easy, and it truly meant a lot to us. Even though everyone was working that night, their smiles, positive energy, and great service did not go unnoticed. We really appreciated it and had a memorable evening. Highly recommended!
Came here with my boyfriend for our anniversary. Miguel welcomed us in like we were his family. He was super attentive and friendly! He gave us two glasses of bubbles to celebrate our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Food was absolutely amazing from start to finish! From the tasty jamón,pulpo scallops everything we enjoyed. We were so full but managed to squeeze in desserts! Definitely would recommend and we will be back soon! Thank you !
We had a fantastic experience at La Gamba. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, friendly, and attentive without ever being intrusive. We ordered two portions bread and butter for the table to start, loved it. I loved the flaked salt over the butter instead of serving salted butter. The Gambas al Ajillo (without chilli) were a standout; the prawns were lovely and the sauce they came with was perfect for dipping bread into. The meatballs were also delicious, and again the bread made a great combo to soak up the sauce. The Torta Galega with pulled meat was very tasty, though I personally wasn’t keen on it being served on toast. I think some mini tortillas with a little cheese and salsa would have gone down even better but this is just a personal preference rather than a reflection of the dish. Our waiter was lovely and attentive without being annoying, which really added to the whole experience. Definitely worth a visit. We didn’t manage to get any pictures of the dishes besides the bread, but the food was memorable enough on its own.
Trendy and upbeat meets family owned and operated at this River front restaurant on the Thames. It is a must go to when visiting London for a modern take on true tapas recipes straight from Spain. The aubergine is a must when visiting here. The staff is attentive and inclusive to all nationalities, treating each table like you are a part of their own family when dining here.
My mum and I were just looking for somewhere to have a quick drink in the sun on her birthday and Miguel, the host, was extremely warm, kind and accommodating, even though we didn’t have a reservation and all of the tables in the sun had been booked. The whole team were very welcoming! In the end, Miguel found us a great spot in the sun for some martinis and their Flip to Spain cocktail plus we ordered some of the octopus which was absolutely divine. Will definitely be back :)
What's not to love about tapas! The food was delicious and amazing, and full of flavours. Personally it reminded me of the tapas you get in Spain (minus the cost). While everything was great and brilliant, it's not cheap. My friend ordered the Gamba shrimp and he though it would come pelled, which it doesn't. However the staff was kindly enough to take it back and didn't charge us for it. The restaurant is on Southbank so it's constantly busy. As there is a constant flux of people around mind your stuff.
I chose this restaurant basically because when I tried to book several nearby restaurants online, they always needed me to give my credit card number to reserve a table, while this restaurant La Gamba when I tried to reserve a table online, they didn’t require me to give my credit card number, and I feel more safe and secure, so I reserved a table and went there for dinner, we had the set tapas menu for 2, which are £29 per person and had 6 dishes of tapas. We also added bread & butter and had 2 glasses of cocktail. Food was so delicious, the margarita was nice unlike some places the cocktail is very diluted but here I can really taste it. Waiter & waitress offers good services, and it has outdoor seating, when the weather is nice it was just so lovely to dine along the River Thames, I would really recommend this restaurant, and price is fair considering it’s in central London.
The food was tasty and well prepared, with decent portions. We went for the set menu at £25 pp, which offered good quality for the price. The service was friendly and efficient, making for a pleasant experience overall. The only downside was paying £4 for a Coke - a bit steep, even for central London - but otherwise, a solid spot for Spanish tapas.
Loved the place. The service is absolutely amazing and staff really friendly and polite and know the job and food well, very attentive and welcoming. The food was delicious. We had a set menu and Sangria, spent 2 hrs and didn't want to leave. They are very busy in the evening so I would say a booking should be better to ensure you don't miss out. Music was slightly too loud for my ears, however my friends didn't not think so. This place is now on my list so definitely will be returning.
Really interesting menu options, enjoyed the tortilla and aubergine dip most followed by the crème brûlée. Some portions are very small for price eg one scallop for £8, but others are a bit more generous. Restaurant had nice atmosphere, attentive waitress. Downside is mixed sex toilets - pee on seats from those who.. stand up :(
I went with my young daughter after a day at the aquarium. It wasn’t very busy, since it was a Monday around 1 pm. The service was quick—they took the order promptly and the food didn’t take long to arrive. I ordered huevos rotos, ham croquettes, and fried anchovies (which I can never find in Spanish restaurants here in London), so I was pretty happy—until the food came. Instead of fried fresh anchovies, they brought me boquerones en vinagre battered and fried. I don’t know why, but I ate them anyway, even though that’s not what I ordered. I also asked for bread to go with the huevos rotos. Honestly, bread should either come with the dish or at least be perfect when you ask for it—huevos rotos without bread is like a plane without wings, it just doesn’t work. Unfortunately, the bread was undercooked, so I couldn’t enjoy the dish as I would have liked. The huevos rotos themselves weren’t bad, but there was only one egg, a lot of chorizo (a bit too salty), hardly any ham, and the potatoes were cut like patatas bravas rather than the thin, pan-fried style I would expect. On the positive side, the ham croquettes were very good, although I didn’t like that they used aioli to stick them to the plate and then topped them with grated cheese. That gives the wrong impression of what Spanish food really is. I’m not sure if the restaurant aims to serve traditional Spanish food or not, so I’ll leave that in doubt. I would go back and give it another try, hoping this time they serve proper fresh fried anchovies, dusted in flour and fried whole with the bones, as they should be. The bill came to £50 for three tapas and two drinks (a 330ml beer and a pineapple juice). I’m not sure it was worth it, especially considering bread wasn’t included.
Bit of a mixed experience today. Some highlights but a couple of lows too. Overall though a fairly decent meal. First positives initially had a warm welcome and service was quick and food came quickly too. Jamon croquettes, aubergine, and asparagus where great, patatas brava was average and mussels tasted really good , but some were very gritty. Lows included overcooked cod cheeks , although caper sauce was nice, and chicken thighs a bit dry and just nothing, cooked better myself last weekend. Would probably give it another go as may have been unlucky. Service at times was a bit perfunctory. Desert was glorious, torrija, sorry didn't get a photo of that one , meaning we left on a high.
We were looking forward to dining at La Gamba and were disappointed. First of all the lighting was too bright. Not intimate and felt more like a fast food atmosphere than a proper restaurant. £4.50 for 5 olives, the rice dish came out just about warm with dry sea food and a broken shell, the aubergine lacked of goat cheese flavour and wasn’t warm enough. (No waitresses around to complain to and no one checking we were happy). I liked the crab croquettes even though it wasn’t much crab in. The presentation and flavours were good. My bread pudding was the best of all with the anchovies. The waitresses weren’t attentive and we could see the food on the pass waiting for too long before being collected. Which doesn’t explain why our food wasn’t warm as it came out from the kitchen very quickly. (Which is never a sign of quality) What annoyed me the most was the waitress dumping our ticket straight on the table way up. No plate under the bill, no bill folder and the ticket wasn’t even folded. (Lack of discretion and manners) Fortunately the last server listened to what we have to say and went to his manager to do a gesture which was appreciated and explained the difficulties across the industry staff shortage etc. And will correct the experience for next time. (Without him rescuing the situation, I would have rated the restaurant a 1star)
We sat outside on a warm evening and the atmosphere and location was wonderful. The croquette platter was delicious. The service was also very good, our waitress was friendly and attentive. They gave us a free dessert with a candle in it as we were celebrating a birthday. We had the Torrija Caramelizada, caramelised bread with cinnamon and orange. It was so yummy, definitely recommend. On the other hand, the aubergine was very small for the price and the tortilla was underseasoned. They do not provide takeaway boxes for unfinished food which is silly and asking for food waste.
Nice restaurant, we went for the bottomless sangria brunch. The food is pretty good, very generous portions with three tapas per person, we couldn’t even finish it all. The sangria is not the best I have ever had, but you can drink it quite easily! We also had a bottle of Cava (included in the bottomless) so can’t really complain. Service needs some improvement, generally very slow, which is not really what you want during a 90 minutes brunch; we also had one waiter with a bit of an attitude…so when we found a £33 discretionary service charge it was quite the surprise. We paid anyway as in the end the food was good.
We went with my Spanish boyfriend to this restaurant because we really thought that this restaurant was a cool place to have a dinner. But it went catastrophic ! Indeed the waiter was incompetent, I think that this restaurant thought that the tourists are dumb. We were placed and later 1 min later someone came to ask if we wanted water. We didn’t had the time to look at the menu, so we declined politely. After that we ordered food and some drinks, we asked for still water but they came with a bottle of water (so not the free one), but on all other tables there were free still wanter. When we ordered food, I simply read the menu : it’s written in Spanish so I simply said what I want in Spanish (for example I said : we want to start with the “croquetas de jamón and the patatas bravas”) but visibly the waiter didn’t know the menu because he didn’t understand, and I had to show what I was talking about on the menu. Furthermore, the food was not very good. My boyfriend who is Spanish was horrified by how they cooked all of the tapas. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Eran 100 y me cobraron 116. No volvería.
OJO ESTAFA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
