Passing through from Tucson. Walked over from Walnut RV Park next door. Choose fijatuas for 2. More than enough food for 3. Food and margaritas were great. Owner and waitress were very accommodating checking on all tables repeatedly. Good prices on food.

I don't est there often, cause I live in Hereford. But every time we've eaten there the food was delicious. My favorite is the ribeye steak. On the plus side, the beer always cold and the margarita's are pretty darned good.

Worth the drive from Amarillo! Awesome fajitas and ribs. The salsa was perfect. Priced very fairly. Mike, the owner, came and visited with us. Super nice guy. Great servers also. We will be back.

Yesenia was an awesome waitress, super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. LOVED the queso! Of course the margaritas made it all even better! We highly recommend this place!

As a lifelong Texan I can honestly say they make THE BEST Mexican food in Texas ! Our meals were delicious plentiful and very fresh! I think we will plan to stop in Vega just to eat here ! Keep up the good work !💗

Best Mexican food we have had in a really long time. The lady who checked us in recommended it because we could have it delivered to our room.

Multiple trips to California even to Mexico once and still couldn't find a place to have authentic Mexican food where a Semi truck could fit. Happen to see a billboard on the interstate "Roosters Mexican restaurant" after a quick view on Google we jumped off the interstate in pursuit of Roosters. Finally authentic Mexican food with friendly employees where a Semi truck and trailer could fit. Food was great, I will be back the next time I'm passing through Vega, TX. A wonderful little restaurant in a small town. The owner even stopped by our table for a chat. 🙂

This has to be the Best Mexican Restaurant Iwe have ever been to. I travel with my job and sometimes my husband gets to travel with me, and when he does we drive and anytime we can we always stop there. Please tey it, you will not be dissapointed❤️❤️

Stopped by on a cross country trip. It's a small, probably family run, Tex-Mex place. The environment, food, and service all feel like they were made with authenticity and care. This is the cozy, filling, satisfying food that many other restaurants are imitating.

What a FANTASTIC find! You will LOVE the tastiness and full-flavor of authentic Mexican dishes. The tacos were the best I've had outside of Mexico, and the sauces were outstanding. Great ambiance, great service, great everything.

Stopped by Saturday on New Years Eve and was totally surprised with the Lady that waited on me. She had such a beautiful personality and positive attitude and she took our orders and we ate and really enjoyed our meal The enchiladas were great and the fajitas were right on. I wish more restaurants had employees such as Ms. Yesenia. I definitely will stop again.

Quick service, food was great, next time traveling across Texas WILL definitely stop in again! The server immediately greeted us and sat us down. Quickly had our drinks and order put in. Just finished a very good! Meal. The owner was great, he came out and talked a while. When you order a steak from any place but a steak house it usually isn't good, mine was great! Tender and seasoned good. The Margaritas were also very good and they come out with warm chips and salsa very good.

Food here is fantastic! Staff is extremely attentive. Took less than 15 min from sitting down to having my food in front of me. Ask for April and you won’t be disappointed!

We were set quickly, the food was excellent some of the best tacos I've ever eaten and the sopapilla was excellent. The taco shell was made fresh. My husband had a beef burrito and it was excellent as well this is an out of the way place that is a must. It is rugged however clean and the food is off the hook

If you're ever going through Vega, TX and want to meet the sweetest man in the world and taste phenomenal food; STOP immediately. Everyone was incredibly wonderful and it was pleasant. They take pride in the food they feed you. Don't expect fast food, expect home food and time to actually have a conversation with your companion(s).

What a great place!! Between the owner, the staff and the interesting decor....I highly recommend it! Popped in the other day to see if they would sell me a bag of ice, as nowhere else in town was open. After they filled up a big bag of ice for me....they wouldn't take any money for it. So my husband and I decided to go there a couple of hours later for dinner to support the business! Delicious food! I had a chicken chimichanga...my husband had a burrito! Very tasty! We went here for brunch because it appeared to be the only place open on Sunday other than DQ, and we were pleasantly surprised! Staff was friendly, food was delicious, and prices were really good! Fajitas were more than enough for one person, and they were $7-something with sour cream, guac, and 4 fresh homemade tortillas! 5 stars even with women's restroom handle coming off in my hand! 😅

Love the brisket taco! The brisket is moist! Would have loved to try the stuffed avacado, but there is only so much I can eat at one time. Mike, the owner, is super gracious and eager to please. This is a must go-to place.... drive far to get there!

The Walnut RV Park staff recommended the stuffed avocados at Roosters. I ordered them and was amazed. They were delicious!! The ambiance was great. Mike, I think he's the owner, greeted customers. He made us feel very welcomed.

Food was absolutely amazing. Great prices and extremely awesome service. Owner is exactly how an owner should be very friendly and wants to make sure everyone is completely satisfied. You must ask for a shot of his special tequila when finished eating. Will not be disappointed. Best place in the panhandle.

We came here to look at the rooster with a sombrero but decided to have a snack and a drink since it was open. The waitress, Yessi, was very sweet and helpful. We had a huge full plate of veggie quesadillas that two of us could not finish. The quesadilla was crisp, stuffed with vegetables and had sour cream, guacamole and chopped tomato on a bed of lettuce. The house margarita was pretty good. Would definitely be back to this unassuming cafe.

I drive Truck over the road, & I’m always looking for little out of way spots for great food. (Great Parking for Trucks) This is a must stop. Best food I’ve had in a very long time. I asked the server what I was having and she suggested The Chile Relleno. Simply Amazing is the word. I had to rub it in to my Girlfriend in Idaho what she was missing out on!

The only place I've ever had fried avocado and we came all the way from Illinois for a second visit! Owner is awesome, waitress is amazing.

Very good place. The food is incredible! There was some miscommunication in the kitchen so I ended up with two dishes for the price of one. Can’t complain about that.

Had the barbacoa mini tacos. Very delicious ! Meat was tender, moist, and seasoned just right. Corn tortillas were homemade tasting. Rice and beans were perfect. Highly recommend this cozy restaurant with a polite atmosphere from the staff. Truck parking available on east side of restaurant and across from street.

The prices on the menu boards others have posted online are WRONG! Roosters has up graded their menus but has not change their food menus. Still good food, still good service!

Roosters is a family place with fabulous food. In our group of 5 we had a combination #1, combination #3 and Beef nachos supreme, everything we had was outstanding and the price was very reasonable! Will be on our list to eat there again.

Stopped in Vega looking for another restaurant that is no longer there. Came across this place and decided to give it a try. This place did not disappoint. It was SOOOO good! If you're ever in the area give this place a try. Can't wait to be back in the area to stop and try it again!

I really love going and eating here. It is so delicious. The food is amazing and the people are so nice that work there. It is my favorite place to eat. The queso is amazing and the hot sauce is so good. I usually get chicken fajitas that come out sizzling and so good. I also love the chili relleno with queso on top. So yummy. Everything I have had has been amazing. Go eat there if you haven't and enjoy amazing Mexican food.

Not a lot of dining choices in tiny Vega, Texas, but I would be a regular here if it were in my hometown. We ordered the stuffed avocado with chicken and green sauce; it was absolutely delicious! We also ordered the veggie quesadilla which was full of fresh sautéed vegetables. The spicy red sauce was stupendous. We will definitely stop here if we are ever this way again.

The food is legit, and Yesenia’s service was some of the best we have experienced. She was so sweet with our three dogs who joined us for lunch and made us feel so welcome. This place is awesome! Stopped in Vega for a night in the RV, noticed this cool looking Mexican place on the way in and decided to walk over once we were set up. Glad we did. We got there not too long before close but they welcomed us in without hesitation. The food was great, the server and manager were super-nice but the best part was that, when the server took our plates away, she asked if we wanted another round of drinks. At this point it was well after close but she told us it was no problem, they still had tables. This type of attitude is so refreshing in this age of slack customer service. Hopefully we'll be back someday!

I ordered the #1 combo platter. Excellent crispy chili relleno. They have a hot sauce that is actually spicy. Queso was on point, too. Very chil vibe and excellent customer service. Don't pass this up. Amarillo can not compete for a delicious authentic meal. Well done!!

I’m from California and have eaten Mexican food all my life. Was on a cross country drive and didn’t want to lose time stopping in Amarillo. Searched for restaurants outside of Amarillo. Found this restaurant in the small town of Vega. Was a bit skeptical of a place that has Mexican food and chicken fried steak on the same menu. The moment the chips and salsa arrived and I tasted them I knew I would be eating good. Got a huge combo plate (Ty’s combo) and a large bottle of Coke from the fridge. Everything was amazing and the asada was top tier. I thought I would be taking some to go but, I ate all 5 items as well as all the beans and rice. Service was great. Everyone was friendly as can be. Have never seen anything like this place in California. Skip Amarillo and stop here for an amazing unique experience with amazing Mexican food.

This quaint and unassuming little cantina has a great menu with lots of options. I went for the tasty brisket plate and was stuffed when I was done. The atmosphere is chill and there’s plenty to look at on the walls. The server was friendly and the meal was ready in a flash. Nice to see a good place still open on Route 66.

Our server was so sweet and the portions were massive and delicious. This may look like such a small place but when we walked in, it was full of life. The chef himself came and checked on us at one point. The server even took time to educate herself more on service dogs and my family felt so welcomed.

Tasty, hot, fresh food. Darker, dive ambiance. *Very competent* but the most eye contact avoidant server I've ever met.

I had the fajita beef burrito, my wife had the fajita chicken burrito and they were both excellent. Others in our party had beef tacos, enchiladas, jalapeno poppers, and chicken strips. Everyone without exception really enjoyed their meals! I highly recommend the short trip to Vega. Enjoy!

Service was good the waitress was friendly. I really liked that there was a big variety on the menu; from mexican, vegetarian, american and even building your own combo plate. The food was brought out in a timely manner and was very hot, even though we had a big group. I would highly recommend!

Cute little place with good food. It’s a bit pricey but we’re glad we stopped there. We were there from about 1:00 to 2:00 on a Sunday and they were quite busy but the man and woman who were running the show did a good job keeping up with the tables. The only available hand soap in the ladies’ restroom was an open bottle of soft soap but, otherwise, it was kept pretty well. We were just passing through but, if we were to come through Vega again, we’d probably go back.

Snowed in by blizzard conditions, found the one place still open for food. The young lady working was very hospitable. She was quick to answer questions. I had Carne Asada. The food was amazing. Kudos to the cook! A terrific find.

It's pretty much the only restaurant in Vega, TX. The food is very good and the beer is cold.

While my surf and turf took a bit long to get there, it was excellent. Staff was great. Considering the lack of options in Vega, this town is lucky to have such a great restaurant. When I was there, there was no lit sign at night indicating the restaurant so use your GPS.

This quaint little Route 66 stop was pretty good! The service was quick and friendly and the decor was fun to look at. I also loved that they had a vegetarian section on the menu, which can be a rarity in small Texas towns. Overall, would good again.

A great find, just across the street from the campground we're spending the night. The food is good, I always compare to Chile Verde when trying a new Mexican restaurant. This one is okay, not a large portion, skimpy on the pork. However, we were told to order the stuffed, fried avocados, they're excellent! Service is good, our waitress was friendly and checked on us regularly. Ps. The margaritas are really sweet. Overall, it's a good choice, with lots of other menu items.

We were passing through the town and found this place on Google. The word "Rooster" on the sign was hard to read, but it's a good thing they had a large metal rooster statue at the front. We stopped for dinner and had Grilled Fish, Enchiladas, and Tacos Asada. I particularly liked my grilled fish and the tacos were really good, too. Good service. Our server was very friendly.

This restaurant is located across from the RV park where I was staying. I had a long day of driving so pulled in here. I was told by the RV park to try the stuffed avocado. I did and was not disappointed. Crunchy outside, creamy inside. I had beef with the queso on the side so it wouldn't get soggy. As I waited for my carryout I saw a lot of good looking and smelling food come out of the kitchen. Definitely would recommend stopping

There aren't many places to dine in Vega, so it's nice to have this little gem in the area. The food is good, portions hearty and prices reasonable. I've not had anything I didn't like, and it's one of my go tos for Tex-Mex. Service can be a bit slow, but always friendly.

We stopped by yesterday and wanted to comment on our experience with this restaurant. We talked with Mike and noted he was very friendly and we even complimented of the quality of food was good as well. Our complaint mostly was the way he described the amount of food that was on the plate. He mentioned that the quesadilla was very big serving and her plate had 3 tiny tacos. With 3 spoonful of rice and 3 spoonfuls of beans. We also thought the price was high for the amount of food we received. We were disappointed and probably won't be back in the future.

We give it 2 stars because the chips and Salsa (before I found a hair in it) were good. But please trust me when I advise you to keep driving! It's overall a nasty place. Terrible service and terrible food. They got my order wrong twice. My husband and daughter said, it was the worse cheese enchiladas ever, they weren't sure what it had in it but it didn't taste like cheese. Please note, we are not a picky family and this is my first time to ever leave a bad review on a place. Keep driving!

This is truly a small town family run restaurant. Thos is the kind of place we like to support. Our waitress was likely the young daughter of the family owners. The fried avocados were great! That's where the good ends... Service was beyond slow. My family finished eating before I got my food. We had to ask for silverware AFTER the first meals were served. The two free tables when we entered were covered with dirty dishes. The burrito was meat and cheese in a tortilla. The nachos were a small handful of chips with a small amount of meat on them. The enchiladas were merely OK.

Don't get me wrong the food is excellent! But the wait staff is horrible the past 2 times I've gone I have got up and walked out it should never take a restaurant over 20 mins just to take a drink order..after the first bad experience because everyone can have a bad day.I took my wife yesterday keep in mind they were not that busy we sat there about 15 minutes still no drink order 2 guys walk in and weren't there 2 minutes and got chips and drink order .. they sat at the table 2 1/2 feet from us !! So yeah it made me mad we got up and walked out after looking at the waiter and saying you got to be kidding me!!!

Since there is little to nothing in Vega, they have a captive audience. The service was good, but the food left much to be desired.

The service was really slow at a time that wasn't busy. My husband had to search for menus....the waitress wasn't friendly or nice...When my husband ordered he asked for one of the items to be chicken and one beef with out onions because he's allergic. When our food came both of his items were beef and both had onions smothered throughout. The food was terrible. The cheese sauce taste like powder....chili sauce taste like a can of hormel chili. Horrible experience and we won't be back

Not very flavorful dishes, definitely tex-mex. Customer service is excellent but not the best stop for travelers looking for a good place to eat. I just paid 17.86$ for a taco salad and ice tea. Turn around and go somewhere else while you still can.

I never write reviews, but I have to make an exception here. I had the 12oz ribeye. It was the worst steak I've ever had in my 54 years. Full of gristle, over cooked (I ordered medium, it came out extra well done), and over seasoned (very salty). They had a single waitress, taking orders, busing tables and checking people out. She was a lovely young lady, but overwhelmed. The owners should take more pride in what they serve. Very disappointed.

Trash. If you're not a local, don't come here! We had a table of four locals seated 10min after we had, and they got served 20-25min before we did. We waited aprox 40min total for our order, with only the two parties mentioned in the whole restaurant. So much for southern hospitality!

Meh. Server was nice and did fine job but no mask. The food really had no flavor and unmemorable in any way. It had nice small family feel but they need to limit the menu and make a few great items. Menu is vast but nothing worth stopping.

Mediocre at best, and even that is generous. We were driving through and stopped because of the reviews. My husband’s burrito had some weird choppy chicken that had weird texture, my flautas were tiny and overcooked and flavorless - not worth anywhere near the price. Our kids hamburgers were better than the Mexican food we had, and those weren’t even that great. Really crappy Mexican food for Texas that is supposed to have great Mexican. The sopapillas were way too heavy on the cinnamon and everything was just not that good. So glad we’ll never drive through Vega again and have to stop for a meal. This might be great for locals in a tiny town who don’t know any better. Don’t fall for the positive reviews like we did. Keep driving and go somewhere else.

If I could leave a half a star I would. After walking in I could see immediately I made a terrible mistake. Came here because of the reviews and was highly disappointed. This is definitely a spot for the locals. They were out of carne asada and out of red chile con carne, not to mention they don’t even have chorizo!!! What kind of authentic Mexican restaurant doesn’t even have chorizo on there menu?!?! I’m confused. They have a bigger American section on their menu than Mexican dishes. The fries weren’t cooked all the way through, the chips were dumped out of a store bought bag of Tostitos, and the green chile sauce came straight out of a can, doesn’t even look appealing. Please don’t come here looking for an authentic Mexican restraunt.
