Cortesia e dolci buonissimi 😀
Cavo un nome una garanzia! I loro amaretti strepitosi, da sempre
Brioche e amaretti assolutamente favolosi
Amaretti di Voltaggio e canestrelli ottimi
Preso torta pandispagna con cioccolato panna e fragole. Ottima.
Fantastic bar with lovely friendly girls serving. Excellent pistachio cornetto - a different type with tasty roasted pistachios rather than overly stuffed with cream. The coffee was very good and super well priced to have at the bar considering the central location. Beautiful historic building, nice seating areas and well kept toilet. Recommended!
The history of Pasticceria Liquoreria Marescotti di Cavo in Genoa, Italy, is a rich tale of tradition, resilience, and revival, deeply intertwined with the city’s culinary and cultural heritage. This establishment traces its origins back over two centuries, reflecting the evolution of Genoese pastry-making and the perseverance of two families—the Marescottis and the Cavos. The shop’s story begins in 1780, when it was founded as Cioccolateria Cassottana, a chocolate-focused business. For over a century, it operated under various names and owners, including Lagorio and Marenco, serving as a confectionery hub in Genoa’s bustling old town. In 1906, the business took on the name Marescotti, after the De Micheli-Marescotti family from Novi Ligure, a town with ties to Liguria’s culinary traditions. The Marescottis transformed the shop into a Pasticceria Liquoreria, blending classic Genoese patisserie with the sophisticated sweets of the Savoy Court (reflecting Piedmontese influence) and introducing their own aromatic wines and vermouth. This fusion elevated its status, making it a favorite among locals and travelers arriving by steamer at Genoa’s port. The story takes a turn in the late 1990s with Alessandro Cavo, a fifth-generation confectioner from the Cavo family, whose ancestors had invented the famous Amaretti di Voltaggio in the late 19th century. he spent six years writing handwritten letters to the Marescotti heirs, offering pastries as gestures of goodwill, until they finally agreed to meet in 2007. The result was a unique gentlemen’s agreement: the Marescotti trademark was leased to the Cavo family for 99 years, in exchange for the first Amaretto di Voltaggio produced each year and the perpetual display of Irma and Beniamino Marescotti’s portraits in the shop. In short, the pasticceria’s journey—from its 1780 founding as Cioccolateria Cassottana, through the Marescotti golden age, to its Cavo-led renaissance—embodies a blend of tradition, innovation, and a deep love for Genoa’s culinary past.
This summer I asked to go to the toilet to Bar Fossatello and they told me No! I had already an ice cream in a previous bar. Fortunately this Pasticceria Marescotti gave me the chance to to the toilet without consuming anything… very polite! Thank you 🤩
I'll start with saying that Muss is the ideal waiter. Charming and thoughtful about the clients' needs, we started to vibe immediately. After guiding me through the wide choice of pastries we chatted a little and like I mentioned earlier he has a really attractive personality so I also had fun. It was a more than positive experience so for me they deserve 5 stars if not more. I want to add that the location and food is also great so if you have the change I advise you to try it. CR
Very good Pastry, fine Beer, and very good Cocktails. Susie is a very nice Waitress, very friendly and they all speak good English, we come there several times.
Loved it! Best pastries I've had paired with top notch espresso and cappuccino. It's in the center, but it feels kind of local. You had people drinking their espresso at the bar while standing, and the waiters were working hard but also having a good time with each other and the customers. I think it's a long standing spot for locals since it opened forever ago. The interior is beautiful!! Really, like the design is sort of timeless, it's clean but has these gorgeous finishes and touches. For this reason, I recommend to sit inside. The logo was also nice and classic. It felt good to be in there. Lastly, they sell these cookies (I forget what they're called) but they're sold in red boxes and they have them on display. They also sell individuals so you can try it for yourself. This is where we got gifts for the family to take back home. So nice! Will definitely visit again if I'm in Genoa again.
The best place for drink a cocktail in Genova. It s very famous also for the oil painting with a “Madonna del dito”, just above the bar. You can admire the really classy italian style.
We came here for coffee and cakes after more than 2 hours Genova sightseeing. All was great and delicious (molto gusto) - they have tables upstairs and serve drinks in addition to desserts/coffee/tea. So, we finished our daytrip with prosecco enjoying this place.
If I haven't rated before, I'll do it now. My go to coffee place in Genova for quality, service and looks. You feel in a 18th century coffee shop. Congrats dears!
It's like entering a treasure cave, from most wonderful cakes to liqueurs and wines. We had 3 pastries one better than the other. Friendly too. Definitely a place to checkout in Genova.
Had breakfast here every day of our stay. Friendly, great coffee and pastries plus an amazing 18th century interior. Very popular with Italians.

Super central and elegant location, in the middle of Caruggi and closed to the sea. Friendly staff. Top italian coffee espresso and exquisite pastries! Fair price.

Charming and quiet small café in a fantastic street in Genova. Tasty desserts with proper Italian coffee. What a dreamy way to start your morning!
Buon caffè bevuto in questo bel locale di Genova. Proprietari e personale cortesi.
I don't drink Coffee, so cannot vouch for the quality of the espresso, but my girlfriend said it was very good and it only cost €1. The shop itself is beautifully presented and the collection of spirits and liqueurs along the wall is very impressive.
Lovely place to stop by for coffee and cake. Good choice of cakes in fact I Ent back to taste others as they all looked good.

8 euros for a spritz aperol in terrace, which was not even good, and with nothing to bite with it, I found this really expensive. For the same price in Rome you get the aperitivo included!
Centro Storico.Gentili e affabili.
Staff extremely rude. My family and I had grabbed a bite from Vico, Polleria macelleria just across the street (which was very yum and the staff were very friendly!!). We saw that there was a small plaza with tables and went to eat there. A waitress from Pasticceria Liquoreria Marescotti came over to us and was very rude, informing us that the tables were for their patrons only. We were extremely apologetic as we did not realize and it was clear this was not intentional on our part—the only thing marking the plaza was a small sign that looked more like an ad to head into the shop rather than marking that the tables were for their use only, which is why we thought it was for public use. The plaza was also remarkably empty! We tried to make things right and wanted to sit down to have a coffee from their shop, but she insisted that we leave. It was also very clear that she was trash talking us when she went to speak to another table. Funny enough, we were planning to stop in there after we were done with what we had gotten from Vico, Polleria macelleria. The interaction completely turned us off and we went somewhere else afterwards. Tell your staff to treat people like they are people, especially when you know you are located in a tourist area immediately off the port.
We walked in to have some food and we asked for the toilet as washing hands it's a basic requirement. They said toilet was out of service. I honestly don't understand how a restaurant can do business not respecting the hygiene minimum standards.
