Lovely pub on the river. Lots of covered seating outside overlooking the river. Also plenty of seats inside. Good choice of food and bar snacks. Dogs welcome. Nice friendly atmosphere.
Delicious food - desserts especially - and gorgeous twinkly atmosphere. A very enjoyable meal with excellent service and flavourful meals. This was our second visit and we will definitely be back again at some point.
This restaurant is located in a historic building by the river, and has a lovely atmosphere. The food and beer are delicious. It might be a good place to relax. If the weather is nice, the terrace seats are also very pleasant.
Really nice meal as a couple. It was quiz night .... so on the booking form online, I asked for a space away from that, and they looked after us, it is a restaurant with some open spaces and some seperate spaces too. Food was really good. Starters of brie wedges and cauliflower wings. Steak and Ale pie (the side of seaonal vegs was needed), and Risotto. Service was really good too, even tho we had 3 servers, not a problem as they overlapped well 👏. So glad we visited. Thank you. 👌
Absolutely gorgeous pub, fantastic setting, wonderful food, good beer selection and amazing staff. Our server Madi went above and beyond in her service levels in looking after us: as someone who has travelled the world I can honestly say her attentiveness was up there as the best I’ve ever had; absolutely at the right level. Highly recommended venue and especially on a warm day when the river that the pub overlooks is utterly idyllic.
Love this place, great roast for lunch. Was group of 5 of us! Great atmosphere, service and food. Got to take our left over roasties as well - win!
We stopped here on our way to Bournemouth for lunch and found it to be quite amazing! There's ample parking, you can sit there next to the river, and they have delicious vegan roast. Apparently the place has a long history of changing roles throughout time, how cool is that! Would love to come back again.
Legitimately the nicest pub I've ever been too. Would do despicable things to call The Old Granary my local. Admittedly lucked out with the weather when I was there in August, really wouldn't be as nice if it was lashing as a good chunk of the seating is outside, which is both the pub's nicest feature and greatest flaw. Food lovely, pints also great if not massive variety, didn't care because they had stuff I liked. No >5 quid pints but I'm here for a good few not a cheap many. Felt very reasonably priced overall. Do yourself a favour and sit on the roof deck
Honestly the best pub food I've experienced. Good drink selection with the brewery's own drinks being really nice and the riverside location is the cherry on top. Only passing through Wareham but if I lived here this would be my go to pub!
Really nice food, our server Daisy was so lovely Will be back
I just want to say a big thank you to Daisy and Sarah for really helping make our Purbeck Racket ball club Xmas dinner a great event..the service they both gave was excellent…we have been regulars for many years but last night was one of the best..thanks from all of us ❤️
Wandered in on a grey Sunday afternoon not expecting too much, and maybe not even expecting there to be any space! We sat outside next to the river which was really nice. Surprisingly good set of vegan options including burger and salad and the Beetroot Wellington (pictured) as a vegan roast option. Good selection of beers too. Sadly too full for pudding
Always a great meal for Sunday lunch. Service for our group of 8 was excellent. Very attentive.
Just to begin with: the food was absolutely stunning! We had the Butternut Squash Ravioli and the roasted beetroot and it was absolutely amazing. By far the best food we had on our 3 week journey through the UK. I really liked that the staffs asked for allgerys, I wasn’t used to such service. You shouldn’t expect someone to come to your table and take your order, he have to order at the bar, but it’s all written on big signs soo.. A great add on is the location and the beautiful view on the river.
Really excellent visit. Friendly service. Great food. Great location. Highly recommend.
We are local and were looking for a nice place to sit with a drink and watch the spring sun set. We hadn't been to Wareham Quay in a while and thought we'd give it a try. We parked directly outside and found a lovely table outside, overlooking the river. We ordered a few bar snacks and a few drinks. Service was very good and speed of service was excellent. Overall the visit was excellent and we have already made plans to return in the near future.
Always welcoming and always busy, I would 100% recommend booking a table. A wide selection of drinks, soft and alcoholic and the food is absolutely unreal. Well done to the team
Very good meal, ate upstairs with a super view over the river. Very Covid secure with menus tucked under the glass tables. Very chilled vibe even on a Bank Holiday One way in and out. Card payment only. Definitely recommend
Our family came for Sunday lunch and received a warm welcome, helpful service especially with a toddler and we enjoyed the roast dinner which was served promptly. Thank you to Daisy for looking after us. It’s a lovely place for a walk afterwards.
Enjoyed a lovely vegan curry, there were a few other vegan option but It would have been nice if there were a few traditional meals. Waitress was polite and friendly. My only issue would be that I struggled to enter the restaurant due to being in a wheelchair, there was a ramp tucked around the corner of the first door but this did not really help trying to get over the two door frames.
Great place. Fantastic location & building, excellent staff & a good range of drinks especially the Tangle Foot on tap. Family meal, roasts, burgers & puddings. Generous portions & very tasty. Highly recommended.
Daisy, our waitress, was lovely. Knowledgable about the food and drink and very attentive. We opted for two servings of the roast beef Sunday dinner. On the whole, very nice. Our only criticism would be the roast potatoes. They were somehow neither crispy, not soft. They were dry and powdery. That said, the rest of our dinner was very nice. We went quite late on a Sunday so it was understandably quiet, but the music was good and nicely decorated. Would recommend.
Myself and my daughter and her Black Labrador had a lovely lunch today. Daisy was very attentive and provided excellent service throughout. Will definitely come back again soon. Thank you!
A really lovely family gathering of 11 people. The food was well prepared and presented and very tasty and all courses deliver in a timely manner. The support provided by Daisy and Erin cannot be faulted they were available as necessary and friendly and courteous. Overall a great experience and will be back soon.
The Old Granary, Wareham. A building with plenty of history, fabulously located right by the river Frome. As well as 2 seating areas riverside, it has a rooftop area too. Inside, there is a bar area, as well as some cosy tables, but most surprising are some very special smaller rooms for dining, which are ideal for intimate occasions; they have been arranged in a way that makes you feel like you are dining in a manor house. The menu is excellent, even got a birthday message & candle in my dessert. Staff are very friendly, and we even had Irish coffee. A good range of ales and barista coffee. We ended up staying all day, just chatting to different people. Wareham has many good pubs and historic shops, churches and the Saxon earthwork wall on 3 sides. The farm shop at Norden is brilliant.
What a wonderful eating/drinking experience in delightful surroundings. I found the food to be excellent and they have a brilliant selection of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Very pleasant staff including Daisy, who served us at the table.
Welcoming and friendly. Great quality food. Good choice selection on the menu. Highly recommend visiting. Thankyou Paul for the friendly service you provided us.
We came for christmas eve dinner at the old granary and had a delicious dinner. The experience was made extra special by our waiter Daisy who was incredibly attentive and nothing was too much for her. She made our Christmas very special. Thank you Daisy Chocolate fondant was delicious
Fantastic evening, great menu. Some standout dishes, and others that were very nice too. Paul our server was very friendly and made us feel welcome. Will be returning on our next visit to this area!
What a wonderful place. The staff were lovely, the food was great, just the right size portions and the taste was lovely. Ths setting though is simply beautiful, right next to the river.
Very much enjoyed this second visit here, and sure was good. The menu has many great and unusual selections and a wide choice of drinks including zero and low alcohol options. Love the cafe coffee cake corner adds a nice addition to just a pub. The upper deck with it's own bar is also a nice seating option. All well recommendable 🍻
Came in for a Sunday lunch, food was amazing with a generous portion size. Daisy our waitress was attentive and friendly, she really made the experience 10/10! Have been a few times and the staff are always loverly. A really nice lunch with amazing service! Thank you we will be back :)
We had a lovely Sunday roast for eight people. The service was excellent as was the food. A special mention to the waiting and kitchen staff who went the extra mile for one of our family who has food allergies and in particular a nut allergy. The staff were so patient and the chef cooked a chicken meal which wasn't on the Sunday menu specially for her. Amazing work and thank you.
Pipped in for a Sunday lunch without a reservation, luckily they had a couple tables spare but I imagine it does get busy. The food was excellent, we had two adult roast beef and a children's roast Beef and it was all lovely, the side of Cauliflower Cheese was a little hard but still very nice. Good selection of drinks. You have to pay for parking outside and the car park is pretty small so you might have to park elsewhere.
My family had 2 meals at The Granary over the weekend of 7/8th February. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was amazing! Fantastic range of options for all our different diets, vegan, vegetarian and carnivore. First meal, I ate the nourish bowl and a sherry trifle which both looked amazing and tasted delicious. Second meal, I ate the beef cheeks which were cooked to perfection, melt in the mouth with the most delicious gravy and because it was so good, had another sherry trifle. Our party also had the best plant based cheese cake, not easy to make well but this was light and fluffy and delicious 😋 Thank you for feeding us so well!
I’ve been here a number of times and always found the food to be good. We went here on a Sunday evening and just managed to get their last roast chicken. The desserts were delicious as was the roast. A lovely place to relax and enjoy some good food. My only complaint with this establishment is you can’t get hold of them if you try to call!!! I tried to ring a number of times to check if they were still serving roasts but they have some robot assistant on the phone which doesn’t understand you and you can’t speak to a person. I almost gave up and went elsewhere it was extremely frustrating and I suspect others will also go elsewhere too if they have the same experience as me. We ended up popping in and luckily they had one roast left but it would be extremely helpful if a human answered the phone. Apparently you have to ask the robot to speak to a manager to be able to get through to a human. @the old quay, I would recommend rethinking this strategy as you will lose people. People ring up these days because they have a question that the website can’t provide an answer to. This is the reason why I have put a 4 on the service.
Went in yesterday for late lunch. Booked table online no problems in the casual dining area. Very pleasant feel to the place. Took a while for drinks service and to receive drinks but they seemed busy. Also took about 40 mins for the food but when it came it was tasty. Fish and chips were generous and fish lovely and fresh. Double burger was good and the fish finger sandwich was delicious. Bill for 4 with 2 soft drinks, a latte and a cider was £91. Watch out as they automatically add service charge. Overall, very nice. Will return.
Had a tasty lunch sitting on the roof terrace in the sunshine. Watching the ducks on the river. We returned in the evening for dinner, I really enjoyed my apple spritz. Our meal was lovely, the food was tasty, hot and plentiful. The staff were all lovely and very helpful, the service was prompt too.
Nice pub by the water. It’s really cosy inside and the terrace is also lovely. I visited for late lunch on a weekday. Service was friendly though a bit slow. Food was good for the price. Really can’t complain!
The food was nice and really hot, the staff were friendly and polite but the service was really slow. We do like a bit a break between courses, but this was just a bit too long. It was really busy, so I think it would be fair to say it's probably better at less popular times. The pub itself is in a lovely setting right next to the river. Prices are quite high, £35/person with 2 soft drinks. We would return, so I guess that speaks for itself, and the fact a busy place is a good place. Cleanliness also very good. 😛👍
Lovely pub/restaurant set next to the river in Wareham. Good selection of local beers with staff very nice and friendly. Food is plentiful and good quality. Visited out of season, but suspect gets very busy other times, so best to book.
Our experience at the Old Granary left us with mixed emotions and sadly we won't return. this was our third lunch here and we were excited to bring a good friend with us. We are not local to the area and had not vistied on a Saturday before. On our arrival we were surprised to find that the parking area was filled with a market and we had no idea where we could park. We pulled over and our guest popped in to enquire as to where we could find parking. He was met by a frosty unhelpful lady who shrugged and said she didn't know, and by her attitutude she didn't care either. Fortunately when stopping the gentleman also assiting at front of house, some directions to parking were proferred. The first impression for our guest though was not what we had hoped for. Our table was in a loud and busy area, which would have made it impossible for conversation, something to note when making your booking. Fortunately, and a plus on the service experience, we were able to be seated in a quieter area. The Old Granary is an attractively detailed pub and we liked the decor. Issey, our server was fabulous. Great smile, engaging and she rescued the lunch on the whole. Food wise, we had the Larder sharing platter which was well presented and tasty, classic fish and chips, the chicken and bacon pie, and the sirloin. The sirloin was not the best and quite pricey even for steak, and was a bit of a disappointment. After a rainy day the sun evetually broke through the clouds and we wanted to take advantage of the deck area alongside the river for a drink and dessert. As requested duly settled our account and headed outside with our drinks, I popped inside for a menu to be told by front of house that because of the weather no food was being served outside, not even dessert. This was in case the rain returned and we needed to come inside and tables were not available. It was late afternoon, between sittings with many empty tables, and when settling our lunch bill I had stated we wanted to have dessert outside and was told that this would not be a problem. We were a table of 3 an our bill was about £50per person... Overall not very hospitable, and not what we expected from our previous lunches a disappointing end to our afternoon.
We are fan's and regular visitors to the Old Granary, over the last few months we have visited regularly for a late Sunday lunch on the last 3 occasions we have been offered menus on arrival ordered our drinks only to be told when we came to order food that one or the other of the Sunday lunch choice were unavailable, why do the waiting staff not tell you this when you Visited yesterday lots of staff standing around chatting but slow to actually come and take our order so much so I went to the till to ask if we now had to order from the bar to be told curtly by a waitress they would be over shortly she then carried on chatting ! Eventually she sent someone else to take our order. We have received better service when they seemed to be short of staff.
Very kind waiter with dark hair and beard understood our need for a table away from lots of constant noise. Great quick service and food was good. Roast potatoes needed to be more crispy!
we are on holiday nearby and i took my partner there for her birthday. We had a very good meal we were allowed to eat and talk at our leisure. The prices were good for the high standard of food we had. Would recommend to anyone maybe suggest booking in the high season as somewhere this good will be busy
Ordinary food - I was disappointed both with vegetarian choices and quality of food. Burgers are imitation meat which makes it feel store bought. Sweet potato fries were nice. Soup was quite ordinary while the accompanying bread did not feel like sourdough. They might be popular for meat dishes but vegetarian didn't feel like their thing. Id however recommend their forum lager Nice location, great ambience and views. People were friendly, nice cosy place which makes you want to visit. Outdoor seating available. The place tends to be very busy, make sure you book or reserve. Parking available. Good place for an evening dinner by the water but not so great for vegetarians
Arrived at 9.08. Kitchen closes at 9pm - or at least no further orders. We asked what food was available (food must be available to serve alcohol) we were offered crisps. We had a pint and a cocktail, a few bags of crisps and left. A shame really, as the pub is beautiful. Staff are not that friendly.
Visited for first time last night with my son. His fish and chips were amazing and he very much enjoyed his meal. I had the turkey dinner, which sadly wasn’t great - I could not eat the potatoes as they were rock hard and over cooked with no potatoe inside left. The turkey was a frozen roll type which for the £22 paid I felt was overpriced. Veg were fine although again parsnips were hard tasteless and chewy. My food was not hot enough and i felt it was probably reheated and definitely not fresh. Waitress serving us called Issy was lovely and attentive, 5 stars to her. I did not raise an issue with my meal, simply because I didn’t want to ruin a rare evening out with my son. It is however necessary I feed back my experience as I would not want to return after paying so much for such a poor quality meal.
I almost didn’t come here because of a bad review where someone found a live (!) spider in their salad, and I wish I had listened. The vegetarian burger was really bad, chewy and unpleasant. The chips that came with it were cold and tasteless. We ordered drinks and they took so long to arrive we asked after them and were told “there’s a wait on the bar”, no apology, in the end our food came well before our drinks. The pub is beautiful with a lovely view of the river but the food is expensive, bland and unappetising. I wouldn’t return. There’s also limited parking outside shared with many other restaurants/bars so be prepared to find alternative parking.
Extremely disappointing service! Visited last year to celebrate my mum's birthday and had a lovely meal. How different was the experience today? Chalk & cheese! Booked using their automated booking for 5 adults + highchair, arrived to find allocated a table for 4 and told this is what we booked and all bigger tables were being used. Eventually got this resolved after waitress checked booking and saw what was originally requested; took forever to get drinks ordered, delivered and to save time we tried to order food at bar. Food eventually arrived, harrissa chicken was very dry, roast potatoes al dente, no apple sauce as they'd 'run out'. Took forever for table to be cleared, someone had to go ask for dessert menu and when we went to pay it was voiced about diabolical service. The pricey experience would have been more acceptable if the meal & service was good. No service charge paid and totally ruined experience. Will not be returning!
