My party and I (6 people total) enjoyed a lovely dinner here early Saturday evening. They were able to seat up slightly early which was very nice as I had my more senior grandparents with us. The food selection was fantastic everything was got was very very good. We all enjoyed our meals greatly. The portion sizes while not as large as what might be available at other restaurants are still very filling and even provided some leftovers to take home. Overall great.
I’ve been here a few times over the years. I haven’t been disappointed yet. I would say it would be nice to see dessert wine added to the menu to complement the dessert foods. Other than that delicious and high protein goodness is all I can say. I got a bees knees and the young man made it very well.
A Mexican restaurant that serves suchi.... it's a win-win. Authentic Mexican dishes with a twist. Everything was well seasoned and cooked just right. The suchi (salmon/avocado/cooked salmon) was delicious. The dessert was made sweet but not over the top. With unique flavorful drinks, it's delicious.
@mxdcrestaurant Mexicana cocina ft. Sushi! We know my love for fusion restaurants, so I was ecstatic to try this one. Absolutely phenomenal service, and the vibes are SO fun. 🍹 Pretty, hot & tempting: Very tasty, a lil' spicy and comes in a pouch! 🍹 Catrina: I never thought I'd get a drink with Frida on it but here we are! Such a fun but classy bevvy. ✨️ Dos Salmones roll: A traditional salmon roll with fresh avocado that can do no wrong. ✨️ Cautro quesos funditos: A gooey queso and particularly my favourite appetizer. ✨️ Mx Enchiladas: A classic trio of enchiladas and one of my go-to Mexican restaurant orders. Won't be disappointed. ✨️ Pescado a la talla: Grilled Branzino is perfect for the branzino lovers and great to share. ✨️ Churros: The cutest churros I've ever had and delish. Made perfect ending to dinner. ✨️ Tres leches: Though not as cute as the churros this was seriously such a good tres leches and I would absolutely order this again. Overall, it is a really unique and fun establishment offering a great variety of tequila beverages with fantastic food. I'll definitely be back! - insta @ SpicyAivy
I had the pleasure of dining at MXDC on a Wednesday night, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. Arriving at 9:55 PM, I was initially concerned about the kitchen's closing time. However, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us despite the late hour. Their kindness and willingness to serve us left a lasting impression. Our server, Iman, was outstanding from the moment we were seated. Her expertise and warmth made our dining experience truly memorable. Iman provided us with excellent recommendations, which we eagerly took into consideration while ordering. Her ability to multitask efficiently, even on a busy night, was remarkable. She attended to our needs with a smile and ensured we had everything we required. We started our evening with two delightful margaritas: the Mango Margarita and the Habanero Margarita. Both drinks were expertly crafted, offering a perfect balance of flavors. The Mango Margarita was refreshingly sweet with a tropical twist, while the Habanero Margarita provided a subtle heat that was both unique and enjoyable. For our main courses, we ordered the Salmon and the MX Fajita. The salmon was cooked to perfection, with a tender and flaky texture that melted in our mouths. The accompanying sides were equally delicious, complementing the fish beautifully. The MX Fajita was a vibrant and flavorful dish, featuring a medley of grilled meats and vegetables that I really loved. Throughout our meal, Iman remained attentive and gracious, ensuring that we had everything we needed. Her excellent service truly enhanced our dining experience, making us feel valued and well cared for. I am already looking forward to my next visit and would highly recommend MXDC to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience. So good! The food and drinks were all good. The margaritas were balanced , not too sweet or tart. The chipotle pasta was sooo good. My partner also really liked his grilled fish. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall would go back for the pasta. Ambiance was nice.
The place is cute and the atmosphere is definitely happy hour. I had the strawberry margarita and it was superb. Also caught the happy hour tacos special(carne asada and Mahi Mahi) both were good, they are a little in the small side so you need at least four. Daughter had the salmon and she loved the honey glaze on top. Love that the waitress asked about food allergies when taking our daughter bc my daughter had some. Will definitely visit again when in DC.
Food is DELICIOUS. A few bites into my taco and was in AWE. The flower-heart is BEAUTIFULLY along with the chandelier. The prices were pretty good for DC. The place is very bougie and casual at the same time. I, as a latino, felt very welcomed. The staff were kind and they even got nice looking SINKS.
Came here for appetizers and drinks and had a great time! We sat at the bar and the vibe was fantastic! The margaritas were very smooth and delicious (my favorite was the strawberry) and the quesadillas were also really good. Definitely would come back and try dinner here!
Found this place when I was visiting DC in DC and came back again this week! The chef and staff are great with food allergies and the food is amazing!! I got the guacamole 🥑, tacos (chicken, pork shoulder and the veggie- all sooo good even without the sauce so I could eat it with my allergies!). I don’t drink and their fresca choices are delicious.
Very good, quality Mexican meal. Loved the white queso and the fact that it comes with soft corn tortillas to dip in. Enchiladas were delicious and the burrito was decent! Excellent mezcal cocktail as well - a "Mezcalita"
I've had a lot of Mexican food in my time and love a good Mexican restaurant. This place certainly qualifies. The food was grat. The chicken was cooked perfectly, not over done or dried out. The staff and overall service was attentive and friendly.
Stopped by here after work with some coworkers for happy hour. This place was completely packed, but the staff was kind enough to seat our large party. My coworkers and I ordered a pitcher of white and red sangria. They were delicious and packed a lil punch. We had the traditional guacamole and queso. The queso was so good we had to order another round. As for the tacos the carne asada, cochinita pibil, roasted short rib, and pork belly are a must try. All of the meats were extra tender and seasoned very well. 3 tacos mix match for $14 cant be beat in DC. Overall this place is great for some after work drinks and snacks. Prices are reasonable and its far from Tex Mex. Only authentic flavors and great ambience here
Solid Mexican restaurant. Great tacos. We especially like the pork tacos. No beers on two though which is a bit of a bummer. Overall pretty very good though!
Incredibly flavorful food with a super attentive staff. Looking forward to my next trip to DC to experience it again!
The service was good and the food was great! The lobster and corn guacamole was delicious! Make sure you stir it up because the lobster sits on the top, it isn't throughout the guac. The tacos were good too. I had one one carne asada, one pollo, and one mahi mahi. They were flavorful and filling.
I've been to MXDC several times, sometimes for food other nights for drinks but its always a great time with outstanding hospitality, tasty food, and excellent drinks! Also their club downstairs is always a great place to spend you night out!
I had such a great time at DC Drag Brunch at MXDC! The energy was amazing from the moment we walked in. The performers were hilarious and so talented I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time. The food was really good, the mimosas were flowing, and the staff made sure we were taken care of. Honestly, such a fun and unforgettable experience. I’ll be back! 💃🏽🥂✨
Jocelyn was an amazing server! Loved the experience and food! Lovely neighborhood restaurant.
We were visiting DC from PA. Stopped into this place for dinner and so glad we did. Beautiful atmosphere, great customer service, and the food was absolutely delicious. Wish I remembered our server's name,he was great. He recommended the sea bass and I will definitely get that again, the flavors burst in your mouth. They treated us to the Mexican sponge cake,so good. Can't wait to visit again! Thank you for a nice experience. 🥰
Came here for happy hour and received the best service from Keyri who kept the drinks flowing and gave us great suggestions on the menu! The restaurant is athestically pleasing with cute vibes for happy hour or a night out. 10/10 would recommend :)
MXDC in DC is amazing and so much fun! The vibes are unbeatable, classy crowd, management team and staff shines! Always on top of keeping everything running smoothly. Delicious flavors and standout. Delicious cocktails! Highly recommend!
I had a great meal of upscale Mexican food on a date at MXDC. Absolutely loved the lobster guacamole and the open style quesadilla. Molè was also great, though maybe a bit on the bitter side. I also had a VERY spicy Spicy Margarita. I’ve had a lot of spicy margaritas, and this one was next level spicy. I couldn’t finish it. Otherwise the staff and atmosphere are lovely, and I would definitely eat there again.
Enjoyed the experience overall here for brunch but nothing spectacular meriting an immediate return. We enjoyed most of the items we ordered but several first preference items were unavailable, and the decor was vibrant and energetic, but the service was lackluster, all rounding out to a good but not great experience. We enjoyed the queso fundido with chorizo but the amount of chorizo it came with was very meager (like a teaspoon), and we had to order an additional side. The goat cheese quesadilla was quite good, we enjoyed the distinct flavors. I enjoyed my steak burrito enchiladas, which was basically a wet burrito with a red mole sauce, but the quality of beef could have been better. My wife enjoyed her huevos rancheros but they were not particularly memorable. The churros were actually quite good, freshly made and the caramel sauce was delicious. Items like the chilaquiles, the lobster and guacamole, and several of the tacos were unavailable/out of stock, and we went at opening time. Super disappointing. Service was very spotty, even though the restaurant was fairly empty. Definitely think they can do better, and will need to.
Great food and really fast service. Lovely vibe on a Friday night, and not too loud. Most tables are bar seating which wasn’t super comfortable. Not very flexible for vegan options. But overall a great experience!
Came here for a date night and the atmosphere was very nice and upscale! Came around 7pm on a Friday night and it wasn’t crowded, and service was fast. I got the carne asada tacos and a chicken taco. carne asada tacos were very good!! Pricier side for tacos but it’s a restaurant meant for a nice dinner. Chips and salsa could have came with more salsa
A higher-end Mexican restaurant with prices that are, in my opinion, a little higher than they should be. I was disappointed by their sangria, which was watered-down, but their best dish has to be their fish tacos, which are cooked to perfection. The service is rapid and impeccable and the dining area is well-decorated.
Solid tequila menu. Food was good, can mix and match street sized corn tacos. The house margarita was delicious - add jalapeño.
Came here before the DC Pride Parade for brunch. We were a little bummed that they didn’t have their actual brunch menu, just the regular one. I got the tacos and the food did come out quickly. I really enjoyed all my tacos, especially the mahi mahi one! It’s a nice atmosphere with lots of room and good decor. Hopefully next time they have their brunch menu!
Mexican flavors were not quite as punchy as I’d hoped. The sushi was interesting, I’m not sure I’d get it again though. Might return for happy hour but I think I’ve had my fill of their dinner service.
The food was good. I didn’t get what I was expecting but it wasn’t bad. It’s a clean and elegant place. The staff was friendly and attentive. I wish they had better sangria
The drinks were very good and fast service! I had never had a chile relleno like this, and it was very good.
Loved the ambiance with the dim lighting, candles, and modern Mexican decor. The service was great, and the staff was excellent. The meal started off with chips and two different types of salsa that were delicious. The fish could have been crisper. The ceviche had a little too much spice.
The shrimp ceviche was solid but the hongos (mushroom) tacos were delicious. The guacamole was pretty good. I liked that our waiter was familiar and knew how to make a Batanga (tequila and coke). Service was good. I'd go back.
Came here for date night on Saturday night. Pretty spacious restaurant with nice decor. Service was friendly and helpful. The menu had a nice variety and the food was plated well. CUATRO QUESOS FUNDIDOS chorizo + poblano peppers + onions- it was good. I'd get it again, ask for extra tortillas Tacos mix/match pick 3- pork belly, carne asada and mahi mahi. They were all good but I preferred the mahi mahi because it was the most flavorful Carne Asada enchilada- my husband was happy with it. Overall, the food was good but I'd prefer more heat to my dishes. We noticed the menu had happy hour specials. We would definitely try this place again.
Yummy Mexican food. Service is good, the drinks are delicious. Tacos were absolutely magical, so was ceviche. Though I wasn’t a big fan of crab guacamole.
The food and drinks were good and the waiter was friendly, but service was slow and we felt really packed in - they are trying to maximize customers in the space they have, but this was detrimental to overall experience. Reservations recommended.
Younger crowd which is great. Get the habanero margarita and get them to muddle slices of cucumber into it. Makes a world of difference. Tacos are good and atmosphere is lively. Happening place
Expensive considering the quality of the food. Worse than that was the music being so loud that it was impossible to talk to anyone else at our table. Paella was decent, but the chicken was VERY overcooked and tough to chew. Seafood was good though. Ceviche was a tiny serving and extremely mediocre. Felt like the shrimp was precooked and not cured in the sauce. Ceviche + paella + 2 margs put us at around $120 after tax and tip. Also check your bill because for a group of 5 they included a "large group" tip.
The food was just OK! I got the steak for lunch which as you can see was some black beans and a little white rice and a piece of avocado. There was not much taste to it for the price. It was similar to bowl of steak, the only difference was with my food I asked for medium which came medium well! And the bowl is always well done. Anyway, tried it once but that was it. However I liked the interior and staff are quick.
If one is looking for “Mexican food” this might disappoint. I’m from the southwest and there’s a difference in DC Mexican and southwest southwest. Don’t get me wrong the food was good but a unique place for me and my wife. The margarita shown was the simple one and it was great. Also shown is the green enchiladas. Not bad. The dessert was the charros with ice cream that was very good. All in all a good place but was unique nonetheless.
Professional and helpful staff. Warm but distant ambience. Flavorful food and drinks, but the meal was not the best I have had. For drinks we started with the Blackberry Cilantro Margherita which was a great way to start, very flavorful and refreshing. We tried the strawberry daiquirita which was good but a little flat. For starters we had the seasonal guacamole and the mariscada quesadilla. The guacamole was bursting with flavor and fresh; the quesadilla was slightly over cooked, but tasty. We followed with the MX fajitas and the Salmon. Both were tasty, but the sides served with the salmon were cold. Overall, it was a positive experience, but not the best I have had.
Booked for 5 prior to a show. We were seated promptly, and ordered guac/chips for the table. Our entrees came out a couple mins after the chips, but we were happy to move things along. Sound level is pretty loud, and the server had difficulty hearing us, and we, eachother. General concensus was all the entrees were quite bland, with no condiments or salt at the table. My 3 tacos were were barely distinguishable. The jicama salad was good but had 2 fingernail sized pieces of watermelon. Everything sounded great but it was all just … food. Tap water had a very musty mildew taste, not sure if it was the water or the ice. A few of us ordered sodas instead, but struggled to keep those filled. They were in narrow glasses with 80% ice, so kindof a losing battle serving someone 4oz of soda each time. Once it was time for the bill, I had to hunt down the server after giving her my card, while she was busy having a chat with another employee at the bar. It was an incredibly mediocre experience, we should have just hit the District Taco down the street.
Revising prev review, finally tried the new location. Food and drink quality has declined. Food was just ok. Drinks not great, cordials and bitters don't belong in margaritas, esp at a Mexican restaurant
The Tortilla Soup was delish. The kabra pizzadilla had no flavor… I was disappointed. I ordered Pico and it made it batter. Cooked well and fine, just no flavor.
Full disclosure: I lived 26 years in Texas, so you're going to have to work hard to impress me with Mexican food. While I loved the location and ambience, I wasn't overly impressed with the food. It was good, but not great. The automatic fallback to black beans with no choice of refried beans was a turnoff. The food was tasty but lacked in the spiciness category.
Visited over the weekend for brunch. It was an okay experience. I was unaware that there was a drag brunch and felt that my service was affected by that. No where on the site was it mentioned. There is also an automatic 20% tip included which is fine however, I believe I received 10% service due to the server more attentive to the bigger crowd. I probably won’t come back anyways.
Place is very nice and it has a great and friendly service. Unfortunately the food doesn't taste that good. Given the price of the items (tacos and quesadilla) I would expect a better flavor.
Went to MXDC Cocina Mexicana for dinner. The lights were so dimmed that everyone in our party had to pull out their smartphones to use the flashlights to read the menus. The food was under whelming and the red salsa was disappointedly bland, but the green was okay. The chips were good.
Got here 2:45 on Sunday . They just have a very limited brunch and lunch menu. No fajitas!!!!!!! Not a big fan of tacos! The Cesar salad with shrimp came with raw shrimps
