Love love love Succotash. We had Taste of the South and was BLOWN AWAY by the food. Come with a group so you can really share. Must get steak, greens, pickled okra, shrimp and grits, and the cornbread. Service from Jeizon D was chef's kiss! Met our every need, cleared and cleaned our tables like a 5-star french restaurants. Drinks flowing all night. And who doesn't love this ambiance!?!?

Chose to come to Succotash for an early dinner on a Saturday night. Got a reservation but it likely wasn’t needed between 4-5pm. Service was great and the food was amazing! Chicken and waffles very good. The fried chicken alone was likely the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. It was super crisp yet also tender and flavorful. Pimento cheese burger and fries was also very good. Nice grilled flavor in the beef. Fries were well cooked and the spicy ketchup was nice. Got a side of the old bay macncheese. Super cheesy and I would highly recommend. Also tried the Cactus Rose and Pandan Dew. Both were tasty. Pandan was a unique flavor.

While visiting the DC area, I made a point to visit Succotash Prime especially since it was an Edward Lee restaurant. I stopped in for a quick meal and grabbed a seat at the bar during happy hour (4-7pm). I ordered a Milk Punch cocktail (Old Forester Bourbon, Aged Rum, Clarified Milk, Pineapple, Lemon and Creole Bitters) and a 1/2 order of their Chicken & Waffles on the happy hour menu. Kevin S. was the bartender and he was super friendly and helpful in suggesting items on the menu. The Milk Punch tasted like a smooth piece of butterscotch, and the chicken & waffles were delish! The breading on the chicken was really crispy and the actual chicken meat was juicy and full of flavor! I wasn't able to finish the meal so as I was taking it to go, the bartender gave me some warm cornbread with hot honey brown butter and this was probably my most favorite thing of all. The cornbread was warm, crispy on the outside and soft and tasty inside. I'm looking forward to going back to this venue when I have more time to experience the restaurant but I highly recommend their happy hour for the prices but I imagine the food is great at any time of day!

We had an amazing experience at Succotash Prime from the minute we entered the beautiful restaurant. The long and beautiful bar and tasteful decor drew us right in. They have a great wine list and superb craft cocktails. We had their Taste of the South tasting menu and it was off the charts. Our server, Angel, could not have been more attentive, she was a wonderful wealth of knowledge about the food and drinks. Absolutely 10/10 experience.

My partner and I had an amazing meal here. The space is beautiful and the staff were super friendly. Our server, Angel was the sweetest and provided us with thoughtful food recommendations. The fried green tomato salad was crisp and fresh, with a delightful buttermilk dressing. The cornbread was to die for - sweet, moist, and perfectly seasoned. The catfish entree was delicious - the catfish was fried to perfection and came with a bright and tangy slaw. The ribs were the star of our dinner. If you go, make sure you try them!

Great service from David. He went above and beyond providing service. The food is a 10 out of 10. It’s amazing how Chef combined southern soul food with a Korean twist. The flavors are not force and the food was some of the best Soul Food I’ve ever had. This is a must if you are in the DC area of your area looking for soul food with a twist. was able to walk in and grab a seat with minimal waiting. Food was excellent and service by Anthony was even better. Super friendly and explained all the dishes and overall very great experience. Super attentive with allergy concerns as well ended up trying to taste of the south which gave more food than expected which is always the best

The food was great the service was A1. She was amazing and spot on with her recommendations. My only complaint would be the tables are too close.. the French toast was perfect.

Great southern food with Korean spices. Brunch course meal was wonderful as you can taste several different dishes to share with your table. The fried chicken on waffles was the best. Recommend to make a reservation.

My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at Succotash. We were on a bit of a time crunch, but our server Benjamin went above and beyond to make everything seamless. His service was genuinely exceptional, he was attentive and accommodating. He anticipated what we needed, kept everything moving smoothly, and made sure we could enjoy our meal without stressing about the clock. Benjamin also surprised me with a birthday treat, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening feel even more special. His hospitality alone would bring us back. The food was absolutely out of this world. Every dish we tried was fantastic, but the standout for both of us was the creamed corn succotash. Also, the restaurant itself is such a beautiful building. Incredible atmosphere. I am an out of towner but if I lived here I would be back all the time. Uploaded photo is of the hummus appetizer - also amazing. Loved the kick of the pickled okra and mustard seeds.

As a Korean-Canadian who enjoyed watching Chef Edward Lee on the Netflix show named Culinary Class Wars last year, I was excited to visit Edward Lee’s restaurant in Washington, DC! Our server, Benjamin, was incredibly kind and attentive, always quick to help with anything we needed. The food was amazing — clearly Korean-inspired, yet uniquely creative and unlike anything I’ve had before. It felt both familiar and refreshingly new. I had a wonderful experience and would definitely come back.

Amazing find in heart of downtown DC. Close to Fords theater. Looked for a great meal prior a show. Table of 5. Ordered: catfish, shrimp and grits, petite filet and pimento burger. I cannot tell you HOW AMAZING the food was. Filet was perfect with a recommendation Cajun butter. Shrimp and grits totally amazing with the addition of crab etoufee. Catfish a classic!!! We ordered smoked wings as an appetizer as well as cornbread. The cornbread was to die for. Side of mac n cheese was so velvety. So awesome!!! It was about $35 to $50 per person. Totally worth it!!! Many tables. Full liquor and cocktails menu. We walked from bus stop. Full dessert menu but we were all too full. I cannot say how much I loved this place! 10/10

Ended up stopping by after visiting the American Art Museum and was pleasantly surprised by our meal here! It ended up being a late lunch (3:00) so the restaurant was not packed which allowed for a quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The host was friendly and waitress was quiet but sweet and informative. Banana pudding dessert was to die for and entrees were done tastefully and left us happy and satisfied!

Our experience at Succotash was exceptional from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by a gracious hostess who congratulated us on our anniversary. It was a thoughtful touch that set the tone for the evening. Seated downstairs, we couldn’t help but marvel at the restaurant’s stunning architecture, our eyes constantly drawn to the soaring details and vibrant energy of the space. Our server was attentive and personable, and two managers stopped by during the meal to ensure everything was perfect; a level of hospitality that did not go unnoticed. We began with both varieties of the deviled eggs, each packed with flavor and beautifully presented. Our entrées, steaks, were cooked to absolute perfection and the sides (collard greens and creamy corn succotash) were both delicious. Throughout the evening, we were struck by how Succotash balances the sophistication of fine dining with the warmth and ease of true Southern hospitality. We left thoroughly impressed and already looking forward to our next visit.

Disclaimer: went here for Mother’s Day and I totally forgot to write my review so this is slightly late! Nonetheless this place deserves a great review! The restaurant is gorgeous from the moment you walk in, the high ceiling and elegant decor draws you in. You can get a breathtaking view from upstairs over the balcony. This place is great for those celebrating a special occasion. The service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Granted we had a reservation so we got seated right away. The server came right away and without feeling rushed, provided an appropriate amount of for us to review the menu and decide. The drinks were excellent, very well balanced not too alcohol forward. the deviled eggs were so creamy and great pairing with the various toppings. The corn bread was also excellent! The honey paired great and it was not dry at all! I personally opted for the chicken sandwich and it was so big and overwhelming to eat but it was so juicy and the pimento cheese paired beautifully with the fried chicken!

Beautiful restaurant. Delicious food. Great service, with a fun personality (Melka)! My friend and I shared the catfish entree, a long with sides of dirty rice and the collard greens with kimchi before going to Ford's Theatre. Just the right amount of food and very flavorful.

We had an amazing dining experience at Succotash. This is our second time visiting. Devil eggs is a must have, and the price is great. The whole place is beautiful and historic, as if we’re in Europe. Every dish is delicious and delicate.

Visiting from out of town, I was intrigued by their menu. We had the deviled eggs, cornbread, ribs, shrimp and grits. I also had the peach punch cocktail. Couldn't recommend this place more. I'd come back in a heartbeat the next time I'm in town. From the moment we walked in to when we left, we felt so welcomed and cared for. And the food was so flavourful and well presented.

After trying the national harbor location, we decided to try the downtown location because we really enjoyed our previous experience. Of course this time we were not disappointed also. I think the cornbread we had at the national harbor location was better, with more hot flavor. The chicken wings were perfect with Gochujang flavor. And surprisingly our favorite this time is the chocolate waffle. My friend said this was the best dessert he has had.

Such a rad place!! Drinks were incredible. Split some sides with friends. We had the cornbread, kimchi collards, and mac & cheese. All were amazing. Will definitely be back next time I'm in DC!

We had a wonderful dining experience and can't wait to come back! Our server was really attentive and the food came out extremely fast, but well prepared. We got cornbread (crispy!) and deviled eggs which were both really good, followed by a New York Strip and Ribeye steak which were cooked perfectly medium rare. They were full of flavor, not chewy and the greens on the side were such a nice palette cleanser. If you get the habanero lemongrass sauce, be aware that it's actually pretty spicy! But the steaks were so good that sauce wasn't needed. Next time we come, we're going to try more of the menu. I have a feeling that the southern dishes such as chicken and waffles will be delicious! Everything here was done with intent, and the flavors in the food were definitely put together really well. The only downside was that we were seated in a corner so it was a little more tucked away, but the booth was very comfortable and spacious!

My mouth is watering just writing this review! The restaurant is SO cute and lovely inside. We were treated like royalty by any staff we interacted with. The food is well-priced (especially compared to other places we ate in D.C.) and so delicious! The Gochujang Bloody Mary was amazing, as well. I can’t wait to make it back to D.C. just to come back to SUCCOTASH!

Oh, what a delightful dining experience at Succotash in Washington, DC! From the moment we arrived, I was enchanted by the restaurant's beautiful ambiance. We had made a reservation and were graciously seated upstairs, which offered a stunning view of the elegant surroundings. I must admit, I was a little intrigued by the upstairs speakeasy, but alas, it was reserved during our visit. Maybe next time! Our server was simply wonderful—attentive, friendly, and really added to the overall enjoyment of our dinner. We started with deviled eggs and chicken wings, each bite bursting with flavor and presented so charmingly. For our main courses, I savored the filet, while others in the group enjoyed a kids cheeseburger and the intriguingly named Dirty Chicken. Every dish was cooked to perfection, leaving us all satisfied and eager to try more. The sides were a highlight, too—creamy mac and cheese, well-seasoned collard greens, classic succotash, and the unique coulilini. It was a feast for the senses, all so delicious. Overall, Succotash offers not just a meal, but a memorable culinary experience. I can't wait to return and hopefully explore that mysterious speakeasy! Highly recommended for anyone seeking a delightful night out.

party of 2 , taste of south - plenty of food ($60 per person)!! got seated in the middle (should reserve for booth seats) our server was great and recommended great drinks. order 3 drinks, dont remember all the names but the milk punch was unique! cherry pick was alright but went well with the dishes. my favorite was the corn bread and the deviled eggs, partner's fav was fried chicken on waffles. we ordered the steak as medium rare but it came as more like med well. it was bit tough but the sauce was great! we were too full to finish the dessert but overall it was a great experience.

For not having a reservation and needing to get in and out we got LUCKY! Succotash was gorgeous, perfect vibes, DELICIOUS and above all else, made us feel so welcome. Our server, Benjamin was attentive and got us out exactly when we said we needed to leave without making us feel rushed. He even brought us a birthday treat for my husband’s birthday which was out of this world delicious. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough and Benjamin, thanks for treating us so kindly! We will definitely be back!

One of my all time favorite restaurants. My boyfriend and I take a 4hr roadtrip to D.C. every quarter just to eat here. We make sure to come at least twice every time we are in town. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service is always awesome. The food is incredible, especially the breakfast/brunch 😍 I would recommend the Taste of the south for dinner, and the French toast and Hangover special for breakfast. I am not generally a fan of French toast, but their French toast is out of this world! For the coffee drinkers, their pot of coffee is also very good.

V

Came back for a second time because the food was great and I'm glad their food quality stays the same! 😋 I love the southern flavor incorporated into their menu and the little kick of spiciness in their dishes. My favorite is their gravy biscuit and french toast! The pricing is great given it's located in the heart of DC and the ambiance is on point. The serve is great and friendly. We'll definitely visit again when we're in DC in the future!

Been here twice and one thing that stood out during both visits is that our wait staff has always been incredibly attentive and friendly. Went here for an anniversary dinner and we decided to do Taste the South, which was worth the price tag. There was plenty of food for two people and it was nice to taste a variety of dishes. Their cornbread was amazing! I honestly would go back again just for the cornbread.

My Mom and I had a wonderful brunch at Succotash. We did the Taste of the South option, and I'm so glad that we did. Everything was delicious, and the portions were great for two people. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I will definitely be taking more friends here in the future!

Superb service! I dined alone and my server Angel was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable on the menu items. The catfish main and lobster mac as a side come out hot! I'm a macaroni snob and this dish was hands down one of my faves. But omg the chocolate pecan pie with hints of orange and the edible flower petals...divine!

Wonderful experience. The space is so unique, and atmosphere is warm and inviting. The cornbread was my favorite but the deviled eggs, ssam (pork belly), and catch of the day were all cooked perfectly and delicious. The Korean influences were subtle but enhanced the dishes well. We also ordered the burger and the shrimp and grits which were all excellent. The meal ended with banana pudding which was light but refreshingly decadent. We appreciated that there was a kids menu. Can’t wait to come back and try some other dishes.

Best birthday dinner ever!!! I cannot tell you between the customer service or the food which was better! Highly satisfied. Super kind and warm staff. Stephanie and Malika were so sweet and helped us with the menu as this was my wife & I’s first time. Won’t be our last. Delicious food. I recommend the dirty chicken, nana’s pudding, and the fried tomato salad. Everything was 10/10 but those were my favorites.

We had dinner at this wonderful place, I and my coworkers extremely enjoyed all the food and drinks. We had the taste of the taste south which was something that Jeizon D. recommended for us. So we took his commendation and we were speechless about how the food tasted, very delicious and excellent!!! Also thanks to Jeizon D. for his amazing service, he was fantastic and flawless at the moment of taking care of us. We’ll definitely come back!

We went here for early Valentine’s dinner and both food and service were excellent! We had no reservation and did not even have to wait. We ordered from the special Valentine’s Day menu and it did not disappoint. The lamb chops were so tender and flavorful and our steak was perfect. For desert we had pecan pie and chocolate cake and both were fantastic. Our food was a bit delayed and the manager was very transparent and offered complimentary drinks. We had a wonderful time and will definitely come back !

Awesome southern/korean fusion experience. Atmosphere, staff, drinks and food were amazing. If I could change one thing, the Bloody Mary was a tad bland. Would recommend highly recommend the shrimp and grits and collard greens. Also the cigarettes and coffee was one of the best spins on an old fashioned that I’ve ever had.

Outstanding experience at Succotash Prime. Cesar, our waiter, was exceptional, knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful with his recommendations. His professionalism and warm approach made the evening feel effortless and elevated. Chris, the manager, was equally impressive, ensuring everything ran smoothly and that we felt truly taken care of. The level of service was white-glove from start to finish. Add in a great atmosphere and a team that clearly takes pride in what they do, and this place is a standout in D.C. Highly recommend. Note: we came in to celebrate a birthday (party of 7), and did the ‘Taste of the South’. Highly recommended.

A nice atmosphere as soon as you walk in. We came for brunch on a Sunday so it was fairly busy. The wings are a must try, the cocktails are well made also. The only complaint is the service speed. We were seated in the bar area so I assume this is why. Other than that we enjoyed our visit and would recommend others to go also.

Original Wash DC location in a historic bank building downtown. Customer service is on point and very nice. 2 separate bar areas and plenty of seats spread out on 2 levels. Thanksgiving Service was a family style menu. Excellent quality of southern cuisine and ample quantities to be shared amongst our guests of 11 folks. The appetizers were delicious and excellent selections. Main courses were shrimp and grits, fried chicken and waffles, sirloin steak and collard greens. Desserts were small handheld treats. Handicap accessible only thru the alley and service entrance, needs improvement.

I went last weekend on 8/9/25 with just me and my sister. The restaurant is in a great location, and the interior is lovely. My sister and I are big Chef Edward Lee fans <3 and this was our first time trying his food, so we were incredibly excited. We tried the Taste the South Menu, and when I say it comes with a lot of food, I say it comes with A LOT of food. Cornbread: 9/10 the sweet korean gochujang glaze was magnificent and it was so soft and buttery. Deviled Eggs: 10/10 both my sister and I are big fans of green tomatoes so it was excellent. Salad: 10/10 favorite salad I've tasted in a while. I am adding fried green tomatoes to my salads from now on. Chicken wings: 9/10 my sister's favorite part of the meal. I loved the pickled celery on top. Chicken and waffles: 7/10 it was delicious, the chicken was fried perfectly, but it was hard to finish, especially after having the chicken wings. My sister did not like the sweet glaze on the chicken, and I found the waffle on the bottom to be a bit bland. Shrimp and grits: 9/10 SO GOOD! Chili oil made it so much better. Nice spicy break. Ribeye: 10/10 delicious. The sauce was amazing, and the garnish vegetables with hint of sesame oil was great. Sides: corn succotash 7/10 and mac and cheese 10/10. One of the best mac and cheese I have ever had. Dessert: 6/10 was kind of underwhelming but at this point we were so full. If you are planning on ordering the Taste the South menu, just make sure you come with a big appetite. Overall, the food was amazing and it was an honor to visit one of Chef Lee's restaurants. Planning on visiting Shia in DC sometime soon!

I was there for the Thanksgiving meal and I enjoyed the good service and food. I would love to comeback to try the dinner menu. I really enjoyed the sweet tea, Jamie’s Fall Salad, Jamie’s cornbread, and the turkey.

We were on the way to eat somewhere else, and when we walked past Succotash, it said "Best Fried Chicken".....challenge accepted! We were here on a weekday night around 6pm and were seated almost immediately. Great service, weird seating arrangement, good food, and overall a great time. Initially the host sat us at a small row of tables for 2. It felt awkward because you feel like you're sitting in the middle of the floor in a walkway. We asked to be moved to a booth prior to ordering and they allowed it. Much better. Much less awkward. Our server was excellent and recommended the 'tour' or taste of succotash. It basically was $60 per person and it came with a bit of everything which we enjoyed. As a starter we got deviled eggs, and cornbread. Both were amazing and would order again. 2nd part was chicken wings and fried green tomato on arugula. Loved both of these, and honestly they were the highlight of the night. When the entrees and sides came, we had sliced ribeye with greens, shrimp on grits, chicken and waffles, with Mac and cheese and fries on the side. Honestly it was all good, but the ribeye steak had some gristle in it, and the waffles were flat and soggy underneath the chicken thigh and leg. We would have liked a side of syrup for the waffle as well. I'll be honest, the chicken wings were better than the chicken and waffles. I didn't feel it was a top tier fried chicken, but it was definitely passable. The shrimp and grits were a complete afterthought, as it was probably the weakest item of the night. The Mac and cheese was excellent and overall. We finished everything except for the shrimp and grits. The included dessert was a pecan tart, and a small little donut hole thing that was a super dense pure sugar and cinnamon flavored concentrate. Same with the pecan tart. I took one nibble and that was enough for me. Overall an incredibly fun dinner with so many things to try. I enjoyed my time here. Would recommend everyone to try the sampler tour, or whatever it's called.

We wanted to try the restaurant since the Netflix show came out for the chef. And we ordered a taste of South and the KY fried Tofu. The food tasted great, all flavors were spot on, not too salty not too strong it was just the right balance. The cocktail was amazing I really loved it. They used the real peach not the canned peach. The interior design was nice and The atmosphere was pretty relaxing. It's a good spot for lunch. The only downside of this place was the service, the server kept putting the next table's food at our table without explanation. And it was making the customers next table upset and it was also confused the heck out of us. It could be better if the service is better.

We went for an early dinner, and luckily, it wasn't busy. We did make a reservation just in case. I'd been itching to get back here because a few years back, loved the food here. Unfortunately, most of the food was subpar this time. The deviled eggs, both the bacon jam and pickled green tomato, were delicious! Our waiter, I believe his name was Austin, was very sweet and attentive. My husband got the Dirty Chicken, a dish he'd gotten last time and enjoyed again. We also got the Old Bay Mac N Cheese, which had a perfectly crispy cheese layer; however, it had too much Old Bay and was super salty. I got the shrimp and grits and was not a fan. If you're looking for an upscale twist, you might like it. If you're looking for that deep south or Louisiana style, this isn't it. Same with the banana pudding. It's a staple in my family, so the stakes were already high. It is supposed to have house-made wafers, but the texture was not wafer and the taste wasn't similar at all, almost flavorless. Still, this place is beautiful inside with great wait staff. It wasn't my cup of tea, but someone else might enjoy it.

This was my first time trying this place and I was excited — until the food came. I just didn’t like it. The shrimp and grits had a very different taste, not what I expected at all. I even asked my boss about his house salad and he didn’t have much to say about it either.

J
James Cho

Our visit was disappointing. Server made effort to do good job but there were aspects that were bad. Food taste and quality was okay, not great. We ordered set menus that included dessert. One of 2 came out in a timely manner but the other one had not been served. Asked waiter about it after about 15 minutes of waiting and it turned out he was not aware the items we ordered each came with dessert. There were slight variations to the food we ordered that hinted of Korean twist (example, the ketchup seemed to have been mixed with go-chu-jang (고추장, Korean hot pepper paste)) but definitely not a Korean restaurant (they even didn’t have chopsticks). I was curious about this restaurant since owner is a celebrity Korean chef but do not plan to go again. Food taste and quality not as good as I had hoped.

J
Jonathan Rogers

Water glass had bleach/cleaner smell to it, order the pork belly ssam, which came out with wilted butter lettuce which was disappointing when the lettuce is one of the important components for ssam. Wings were good , entrees were okay and frozen tater tots were weird with the nori strips. Beautiful space though.

Visited around 3 PM on January 15 and ordered bibimbap along with another dish. The menu clearly listed kimchi and cucumber as part of the bibimbap, but both were missing, and the overall taste was not as good compared to when I visited two years ago. My company mentioned to the waiter that kimchi seemed to be missing, and he interrupted us and said, “This is kimchi,” while pointing at carrots (which were clearly not kimchi). He then said, “Let me ask the kitchen,” and walked away without giving us a chance to respond. He already seemed annoyed the moment we called him over. He returned with kimchi, dropped it on the table, and said, “There you go, okay?” I asked, “So there was a mistake?” and he replied in an irritated tone, “Maybe someone made a mistake,” while staring at us with a dismissive expression, as if it was somehow our problem. His attitude was extremely unfriendly and made the situation very uncomfortable. We didn’t even have a chance to mention that the cucumber was also missing. After reading recent reviews and older posts online, it seems like the recipe may have changed, but the menu has not been updated accordingly. I believe it was completely fair to point out what was missing, but the staff’s rudeness made the experience very unpleasant. Very disappointing. (Screenshot attached from an older review in 2023 showing how the bibimbap used to be served.)

I was really looking forward to dining at Succotash for Valentine’s Day, but unfortunately the experience didn’t live up to the occasion — especially for spending over $100. First, I want to say our waiter was great. She was attentive, polite, and did her best. The service itself wasn’t the issue. The appetizer cornbread was actually the best thing we had all night. It was flavorful, warm, and honestly the highlight of the meal. The problem was the entrées. We waited over 40 minutes for them, and when they finally arrived, they weren’t hot. I ordered the lamb chops, and the portion was extremely disappointing — just three small pieces that didn’t even fill me up. For the price, I expected much better quality and portion size. My girlfriend ordered the lobster bisque, and it also wasn’t hot. It tasted like it had been sitting out for a while before being served. For a Valentine’s Day dinner, especially at that price point, we expected a much better experience. We both left still hungry, which is frustrating after spending that much money. Sadly, the food just didn’t justify the cost. I hope this was just an off night, but based on this visit, we were pretty disappointed.
