Such a fabulous pub. It had everything, great food, great selection of alcohol, amazing live music and very comfortable BnB and the publicans are pretty awesome too.
Perfect for a Sunday roast with the family. The conservatory was lovely to dine in and they also had a high chair to accommodate our toddler.
Great service, amazing food and very good value for money. I definitely recommend the Martlet Inn. I for sure will be staying again
We enjoyed a lovely meal with delightful service. The tables were busy, but the old building absorbed the noise well.
Traditional Country Pub with Home brewed Pilsners and Ales from the Black Bear Brewery. Log Burning fire is on for those windy winter evenings. Excellent food and a smile from a friendly and attentive team. Games Room and accommodation on offer here too. Plenty of parking and garden space with the odd live band appearance. Well worth a visit here for a night of old charm, great beer and good company!
Had a lovely Christmas dinner here. Great service. Friendly pub. I recommend 👌
Another fantastic meal at the Martlet. Ox cheeks and pheasant pie yum! The black Ox beer was superb. Nice!
Fast friendly service, Comfy room, nice custom made breakfast. Nice friendly atmosphere in bar at evening. Well worth it
Excellent place, atmosphere, food, drink, people & beer garden. Loved it. Oh, really nice location too.
Our new go to local now since it’s reopened! We popped in for a drink and ended up staying for their quiz night which was great fun, food was also absolutely lovely - we’ve booked for the next one! Staff are absolutely lovely, a really nice pub atmosphere & well priced.
Amazing staff and food. So welcoming. A true hidden gem. Will definitely come again 🤩
I visit the area regularly on business and this is my first choice of places to stay. Love this place. Friendly, country pub and restaurant. Very welcoming staff. Normally busy with lots of locals. Located in a quiet village, Just 5 minutes up the Devonshire lanes, off the A38. A few very generous sized, comfortable bedrooms (I've stayed in all of them) The larger are more like apartments! Free parking, coffee/ tea, very tasty breakfast and WiFi all included. Great value for money. Cannot recommend The Martlet highly enough.
We came to stay at the Marlett in combining a visit to see my nanny and a last night away together before our baby is born. We was pleasantly surprised at how big our room actually was it was more like an apartment! Super cosy and we would have stayed another night if we could. We had a lovely meal in the evening the food and service was amazing. Great night sleep (despite of some baby kicks!). Breakfast in the morning was lovely and fresh and staff where lovely. We will be back with baby next time! Thank you for making our last night away as a 2 memorable Xx
We had a truly wonderful dinner here at The Martlet. It was worth every penny! Although it was very busy the staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic and we'll definitely be back again!
Had Boxing Day lunch here today with 15 extended family members. My sister in law had read the reviews beforehand and was aware it was good but it exceeded all of our expectations. We sat in a lovely conservatory area, which had light flooding in on an, otherwise, murky day. We had pre-ordered our food and every course I had was spectacular! Beautiful Crayfish starter with buttery flaky pastry cone, perfectly cooked scallops for main with an interesting black pudding breaded ball and tasty sauce and Lyonnaise potato round. Dessert was a white cheesecake with rich and naughty Mars Bar sauce. Everything was presented beautifully and the service was attentive and friendly. If you're seeking a meal in a congenial and cosy pub setting, with fantastic food, you won't be disappointed. In my opinion, worthy of a Michelin star. Thank you!
Fantastic food and service under new owners. Highly recommended.,
Lovely food and Christmas Eve quiz. Staff very helpful and accommodating, food was great. Part of a local Somerset pub group, really important to support these establishments.
We met here for a family Christmas lunch 14 adults and five children whose ages were from 7 years to 8 months. We were given the function room, which was brilliant. Kiddies were happy and able to move between uncles and aunties freely. The food was excellent and the staff were very professional and friendly. Compliments to the chef and to all the staff there. Thank you Martlet Inn for making this special day to our family very special.
Very, very nice people, both staff and regular customers who share the bar area. Good menu, great food well cooked and presented. Good choice of wine and puddings. In the room with a glass roof, it can be too noisy for comfort. Overall, excellentay.
Had lunch here recently with my dad and boyfriend. My boyfriend is vegan and unfortunately there wasn't any mains suitable for him, he was perfectly happy with the the vegan starter, a caponata, and some onion rings. The waitress, was amazingly helpful and offered multiple options, eventually he decided to get the caponata which she said the chefs would make into a main size. It ended up being absolutely delicious, I tried some as well and it was just as good as mine. (The chicken supreme, also delicious). Also there were two large parties sat near us but our food took no longer than expected. overall a lovely little pub with some really good food and lovely staff.
Tradional old pub with a beautiful conservatory restaurant and the food here is excellen. Locally brewed beers with function room games room and a pretty garden for summer lunch or a G&T at Sundown whilst listening to the Martlet bitdsong!
What a gem of a Inn! We came down from Chester for a wedding in Wellington and stayed for 2 nights. The staff and Chef were so helpful and went out of their way to help us. The room was lovely and clean. Our most favourite aspect was the breakfast… I recommend having the creamy scrambled eggs and bacon. We were so impressed and nothing was too much. Thank you for your hospitality and we will hopefully be back one day :)
We stayed here as a family of 3, plus a dog on the way to Cornwall. The room we stayed in was big, the bed were extremely comfy, it did need a few cosmetic things resolving in the bathroom mainly, it had poor fitting loo seat, scruffy looking bath panel, dirty shower curtain, general decor in the room was worn out looking. But this did not make it a bad stay, its just for a £160 you'd expect better. This is why I only gave the room 3 🌟. The staff greated us as we arrived, all were extremely pleasant. The pub was clean and had a separate dog dining area, great for non dog lovers, the food was top quality and amazing. I had the venison and it was cooked and presented perfectly the taste was of quality. The chocolate tart with orange sorbet was top notch. The breakfast in the morning was clean looking, and plentiful. Praise to the Chefs, and friendly staff
We had a large family gathering at The Martlet (for 21) and they did brilliantly! The staff were great and the food was delicious. We were impressed it was all served fresh and hot, and came out in great time. We can definitely reccomend for anyone else thinking of booking for a larger group. Thank you again and we hope to book back in again next year!
We dined at The Martlett Inn for an obligatory pub lunch after a soggy Sunday walk. We were greeted by friendly staff & a cosy atmosphere filled with chirpy fellow pint-searching punters (a clear sign we were in a popular place for good food!). Ambience was glowing, though an electric fake wood burner was questionable when there was also a real one in the centre of the room? But I digress, their electricity usage is not on the agenda today. The early signs were right… the service was rapid, kind & the food served was excellent. Probably one of the best cooked bits of beef I’ve had in a pub, generously served with lots of tasty veggies & potatoes. Very reasonably priced! In summary, fab service, delicious food, great ambience & a crisp pint -What more could you want?
We stayed in The Monument Room. Lovely, really comfortable room, actually 2 rooms, with a kitchenette. We ate in the pub and I'm not sure I can praise it highly enough! Shared the cauliflower starter, I had venison bourgignon, which was deliciously rich, my partner had the pie of the week. The dessert? Oh my goodness!! Chocolate and pistachio tart with a berry coulis, one of the most delicious desserts I've ever had and I've had a few 😁 The breakfast in the morning was delicious too, and my flat white just right. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend
We had an excellent meal in this charming pub. The service was exceptional, with enthusiastic young staff. The cauliflower starter was delicious and the beetroot salad was outstanding. It had a lively atmosphere and was well set out in the restaurant. I would highly recommend eating here!
Jazz and John were great hosts, the food was great and the room we had was amazing, Kate who we met on our leaving day was also very nice. We need to come back in March as we have to visit CAVE another time, so will be booking again, but this time rather than 2 nights we will make it more of a holiday. Thank you guys for a great stay. X
Visited when staying nearby for a sunday lunch. The meal was fantastic, everything came piping hot and had delicious flavours. Really nice cosy vibe in the pub. A real winner with me were the pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese, something not every pub offers but was delicious! One of the best roasts and pints I have had in a long time! Would highly recommend.
Fantastic pub set in a village. We had an exceptionally good meal here. Food was excellent as were the drinks all at good prices. We had game pie and was lovely. If in the area give it a go you won't be disappointed.
Excellent food and happy service from the team. Wasnt a busy Friday lunchtime so garden was great place to sit and relax. Decent local beer too. Didn't use B&B so can't comment on that.
We came here for an evening meal. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and even catered for gluten and dairy free diners by adapting dishes. Food choices were surprisingly high end.
Brilliant local pub. Great food fresh and tasty, didn't have to wait long. Although it's located in small village it was quite busy, even in the middle of the week. Staff very friendly. Really recommend!
A lovely village pub with excellent food and a pretty courtyard garden. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the sunshine with friendly, attentive service. Very nice!
Very welcoming traditional pub. Must try.
Had a lovely meal, variety of choice on the menu, not pub grub but does include huge fish and chips and pie of the day, everything cooked perfectly and beautifully presented, great attention from staff, plenty of room in the car park, will make it our go to for birthdays in future
Stayed here while we visited family. Very dog friendly which is always a positive when you have 2 dogs. Rooms well equipped with everything we needed and breakfast was lovely. Freshly cooked to order
12 adults and 8 children for a pre Christmas family lunch. We were totally looked after from our arrival to our leaving in this very well run pub. Once again, thank you to all the lovely staff
I never stayed there BUT I have to say the staff were excellent and the Sunday Roast to die for. One disadvantage..... Because the Sunday Roast was excellent I could not have a pudding and they looked fab as well. Great Inn with great atmosphere. Well done to all.
Excellent! Delicious food, very kind and helpful staff, great atmosphere, thank you! We couldn't have enjoyed it more! 👍😁
Thank you all for an excellent meal last night, we had a range of delicious items from your new menu and loved them all. Coupled with amazing service (thanks Willow) and friendly atmosphere it was a special evening. Well done Team Martlett! 👌🥂
I visited the Martlet with 2 friends ,it was fairly quiet but it was only 6 o clock. We all had small fish and chips, which were hot and full of flavour. The service was also very good
Nice establishment with a warm welcome and relaxed feel. Food was excellent and the chef uses local ingredients and keeps the dishes simple but cooked fantastically. Would highly recommend a visit and our only criticism is that they could do with another member of staff on there waiting team. The waiting staff although very polite and hard working were undoubtedly busy as it was a evening sitting and customers would benefit from slightly more attention. I will definitely be returning.
Great local pub with wonderful staff and lovely atmosphere
We had a fabulous suite( I got the last room when I booked). My only minor issue was it felt stuffy- sorted by opening the windows. Breakfast was good- . A bit difficult to get too as the lanes were narrow. Would stay there again.
We went here for dinner, and this is the first place that I have been to in a very long time that I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the experience as a whole. The food is delicious, there wasn't a complaint from any of us (party of 7) and the service was great too. Highly recommended. Will definitely be going back l.
Lovely old building and fantastic staff. Menu all looked great but I made the wrong choice. The "pie" was a microwaved disk of pastry which when touched deflated to a chewy lump. All my companions meals were fine so just unlucky.
Was ok, we had a family meal of about 14 people last night, the starters were brought out very quickly which was nice, but so were the mains....seemed like we were being rushed through our food. So had to tell them to slow and wait at least 20 mins before desert was brought out The service was good not complaining about that.. just the speed they were going.. The food was tasty and all ingredients were fresh and local so didn't have any complaints about that at all. Only complaint I do have is about the strawberry and cream pudding. Very lacking in strawberries, I mean one strawberry cut into four pieces seemed a bit tight and stingy considering it's called strawberry and cream pudding and the description clearly says that there will be fresh strawberries not one cut into 4 pieces
A group of 9 of us booked in for pre ordered Christmas dinner 2 months ago. Choose here as the food used to be very good. Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn't. The scotch egg starter was very nice but the smoked mackerel wasn't. Loads of leaves, very dry with little if any dressing. Now on to the main, the turkey was pretty tasteless. Potatoes looked and tasted like they'd barely seen the roasting tray and vegetables (sprouts, cabbage and carrots) were undercooked and hard. No stuffing just a slice of sausage meat and a very overcooked pig in blanket. Barely any gravy so asked for more. 1 jug arrived after a good 5 minutes of food. Weren't offered any sauces or condiments. Service was slow but the 1 waitress and barman did their very best in the circumstances. No complaints about those 2 at all Real disappointment as we expected much better than the sub standard food we were served. What a shame
Not a good experience. Sunday lunch was painfully slow. Waited well over half an hour between courses which totally spoiled the occasion. The roast beef lunch was served up less than warm with the beef cut far too thick and couldn't cut it with the table knives. We waited another 40 minutes for the desert in which we were given complimentary tea and coffee for the inconvenience while we waited. This didn't cut it with us along with the far too thick beef.
Disappointed with Xmas lunch. Starter pork more like chicken nuggets! Main course turkey complete with string, uncooked roast potatoes, parsnips and carrot sticks so small and hard roasted, about 5 sprouts, stuffing slice about the size of a 10p piece and horrible tasting jus poured over. Pudding chocolate and orange tart ... pastry case, very thin layer of hard dark chocolate, topped with about 2 inches of piped cream and thawed frozen berries to decorate mixed with candied peel. Not nice. I couldn't be bothered to wait for a cup of coffee. So not impressed with my £32.99 xmas lunch Won't be back to eat in a hurry. Shame as pub itself looked nice although the toilets are shabby.
Nice place, polite helpful staff. 17.50 for a large roast and it should be perfect bet far from it lovely meat awful roast potatoes not sure about the veg. Don't put gravy on the plate use a gravy boat it's about chouse.
