We were staying locally and the Red Lion was about a 10 minute walk. We had popped in for a pint in the sun and sat in the courtyard the previous day and decided to book a table. Definitely book as it seems a popular destination for food and gets very busy and was fully booked the night we visited. The pub is cosy with lots of small rooms converted for dining. We shared a starter and a pudding and chose our main from the specials board. Very very good food, not rushed and served by friendly staff happy to answer questions on menu choices. Delicious 10/10.

Dropped in on the off chance of a table for 2 with dogs & they were unsurprisingly full but they offered us seating outside & oysters! Really friendly, very accommodating and great atmosphere. We will definitely be back & will book next time. Many thanks ♥️

Great food in a cozy pub setting. Enjoyed the beef shin pie and mash!

If you are staying nearby or just passing through this is a lovely stop to have lunch..... Service and food smashing, yes possibly a little pricier than surrounding pub fayre but we felt it was very much worth it. Loved the chairs in the bar area made from old spitfire planes. 👌🏻

We are here on our last night camping nearby. My wife loved the heritage tomato pasta with burrata, perfectly ripe tomatoes were delicious. I enjoyed the garlic and chilli prawns followed by cod and chips. Good size portions and lovely crisp batter. Great selection of beers and wines and very friendly staff.

Very tranquil, good views from room No2 , we saw a bat flying around , red kite, Buzzard, 1 cormorant and 2 Robbins chatting away . Room was well equipped, teas and coffees , water, you can always ask for more, don't be shy. nice size tv, there's even a fitted hair drier in the bathroom. All the Staff are very welcoming and polite, and very helpful and go out of there way . 10/10. The food was very tasty, especially the roast , I had the cauliflower cheese roast , it was delicious, complements to the chef. We ate every evening at the the Stiffkey Red Lion pub so I didn't have to drive The roads are narrow and amazes me how the low decker bus gets through the lovely villages all around Norfolk . 10/10

We only had our evening meal here and it was excellent. I had the pork belly for my main meal and black pudding for starters. Service was excellent by the young bar staff. They couldn't have been more helpful. You couldn't ask for more from a country pub.

On a Saturday night, there was a bit of wait to order food, but it was worth it. The sea bass was perfectly cooked, slightly crispy at the top, and the vegetables fresh and flavourful. The sticky toffee cheesecake didn't disappoint either. The price is reasonable for high quality and good quantities so I recommend it. I'm glad I stopped by.

Fabulous Sunday lunch at The Red Lion Stiffkey. A delightful Public House with quirky rooms & a great atmosphere. All the staff were very welcoming & offered impeccable service throughout the meal. The food is top quality & very well presented. My wife had the most succulent roast beef dinner & I opted for the middle of skate with Stukey Blue cockles & butter sauce. I am partial to skate & it was cooked to perfection. We finished with a few scoops each of vanilla, coffee, & rum & raisin ice cream. All washed down with a few pints of Woodfordes Nelson & Aspalls cider. A nice mix of locals, tourists & the friendly efficient staff create a relaxing ambience. We will be back.

A fantastic meal on Christmas Eve, it was delicious and well worth the £, the service was impeccable and so friendly (thank you Sasha)!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here. The Attic Room 11 was spacious and comfortable. The food is excellent: great produce cooked thoughtfully. The staff here are just lovely. They are friendly and warm. The location is perfect for North Norfolk. This is our second visit and we will definitely return.

Had supper here and it was amazing! Don't expect gut-busting portions but the flavours blew my mind. I had slow cooked pork belly and it was fantastically sweet and delicious. My wife had spicy aubergine lasagna which was also a wonderful experience. Puddings also not massive in size but massive in refinement and flavour. A wonderful pub and great food. We'll definitely be back.

My Wife and I took advantage of the deal, one night £120 Bed and Breakfast and get second night for free. Absolutely superb! Arriving at 4PM Monday to a quiet pub, being greeted by a very welcoming Jack, to settling the bill with Simon and leaving Wednesday morning the whole experience was extremely relaxing. The food was top quality delicious. Highly recommend the Winter deal offer.

Just come back from a nights stay here with my husband. The room was lovely, warm and clean. Very comfy bed! We had an evening meal in the pub, we both had a roast and it was the best we have ever had! The flavours were incredible. We had breakfast before departing and again it was very tasty. Only downside... its not closer to home! Can't fault anything!

Evening meal out of season and it was well worth the trip. Will be coming back again that’s for sure. Staff were very attentive and more than happy to help. Food was delicious, 0 negatives

Stayed for 3 nights - cannot rate highly enough all of the staff and the quality of the food. We had 2 evening meals and 3 breakfasts. The venison pie was one of the best if not the best i have ever had. The local smoked salmon was delicious. Bar warm and welcoming with real fires. Room warm with underfloor heating but bathroom looking a little tired. Would definately recommend and stay again. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Nice pub, good beer and the most delicious fish pie (I’d travel quite a long way to eat it again!). Not too busy on a January weekday, but a warm welcome nonetheless.

We enjoyed a lovely dinner, Sea bass and Brisket ragu. Both were delicious. The team were friendly and welcoming to us both and accommodating to us bringing our dog. Will happily recommend and come again, thank you

Great stay here for the weekend, very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble, and not to far to travel to see other places. This place is a hidden little gem with plenty to offer, oh, and did I mention the beer 🍺 😉

This was at the end of my second stage of the Norfolk Coast Path - the Red Lion has an accommodation block that it separate from the pub I was in room 3 - visited February 2026 Visited on a night that they had a quiz night and I was able to join in with another team Great staff and friendly locals and the pub is well worth a visit and the breakfast was really good quality

My son and I have been visiting for years, staying at the local campsite and have always had a good experience eating at the Red Lion. This year we ate there 4 times during our stay and the food was absolutely top notch. It’s a little pricey but it’s worth every penny. I can’t praise it enough. It’s just about the best food I’ve ever eaten. Rib eye steak was cooked to perfection. Poached Cod was flakey and delicious. Top marks to the chef, the kitchen and bar staff.

Had a fantastic dinner here. Plenty of parking. We sat in the bar area where dogs were welcome. Local beer was lovely and served from the barrel on the bar. Wine list was short but perfectly formed. Staff were very friendly and efficient but we never felt rushed. The food was excellent. The local crab was delicious and the steaks were cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend.

For me, the best food on the north Norfolk coast. Great menu, high quality ingredients and the chef knows what he's doing. A few of the local pubs have really dipped in quality in recent years, but this place is great. We visit Norfolk 2 or 3 times a year, and the Red Lion is always on the list of pubs to eat at. Well done, guys.

G

Located on the main road through Stiffkey. Narrow entrance to car park behind pub, which was pretty full each time visited. Traditional pub which has a number of rooms. Good choice of beers. Friendly staff, though short-handed on the second visit. Menus changed regularly. Food good. Best to reserve seating.

Currently staying here as working in the Area and very pleased i have. Some room reviews are awful...so much so i nearly canceled. However im very please to say room is very good, location is spot on and car park for someone in the Building trade is superb, nicely located at back of pub and very near rooms. Honestly cant praise staff enough, just so friendly and go out of thier way to help, what a credit they are. Will 100% stay here again and honestly think for the money is great value. Did i mention the staff are fantastic...!

Had lunch with the children and grandchildren after a long walk at Holkham beach and had a delicious meal. Everyone was happy with their chosen dishes, my skate wing being one of the best I’ve had - simple, well cooked and full of flavour. Staff all delightful and a really great location on the North Norfolk coast.

L

Warm, friendly welcome from lovely appropriately attentive staff. Good range of draught beers, ciders and bottled drinks. They accommodated a walk in table of six without a problem. Lovely menu and reasonably priced, especially the specials. The kid's menu was short but the food provided was of decent size and quality. The food itself was very good, tasty and arrived in a decent timeframe; I suspect had they been busier it would have been longer but food is freshly prepared to order so would it not be a surprise. Toilets are small but clean and tidy. We sat inside (lovely traditional pub interior and comfy seats) but the outside seating was extensive and sunny. Parking is behind the accommodation and reasonably large, although with quite a narrow access and free - leaving the carpark is a bit hairy as cars come round the corner from Stiffkey village at speed and it is difficult to see around the pub. We had a lovely relaxed lunch and didn't feel hurried out. We didn't use the accommodation but it looks lovely and well kept. We look forward to visiting again, definitely for food and possibly accommodation, in the future.

Wonderful stay at the Red Lion, super helpful and friendly staff. Great food (dinner and breakfast) and beer! Dog friendly. Perfect location for exploring the North Norfolk coast - Stiffkey marshes, Blakeney, Cley.....

C

First rate food beautifully cooked and presented. Menu is reassuringly short so everything is prepared fresh and to a high standard; think high end restaurant rather than pub grub. If you want a huge choice of cheap and cheerful freezer to microwave food served up by 'chef ping' this is not the place to go. Staff were attentive in an unfussy way. Very impressed. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't return the following night as they were fully booked.

M

Stayed here for couple of nights. Good size chalet room Nice view Lovely staff in the pub Has a good size car park Dog friendly We had delicious meal on the first night. Breakfast selection was good too

We were on route and stopped here for lunch. We had the daily specials and loved it. Dog was made to feel welcome - we chose to eat inside and we enjoyed the comfy and snuggly feel you get from an old pub. Highly recommend and we would go back.

We were passing by on route to Wells and I spotted the BBQ Open sign. We turned round and popped in for some food and a drink. As the main tables were already reserved we sat outside and had a delicious burger from the grill. The produce used was top quality, including meat supplied by a H.V. Graves from Briston. Great staff, great atmosphere and a little gem.

C

Stayed here for 2 nights , reason we were going to The Thursford Christmas Spectacular. Saturday night we'd pre-booked a table for evening meal, this is recommend as every table was booked The food, service and friendliness of the staff in the bar was great. The local beer was nice too Breakfast in the morning was hot and tasty. There would of been 5 stars but any one who has seen " four in a bed " there was a few issues with the room. Cobwebs on the roof, bathroom door handle coming off, I even tried to fix it but the screws weren't long enough and finally the bathroom door needed shaving so it didn't drag on the tiles. Having said that, it didn't spoil the weekend. Would I stay again, yes

C

Great facilities for Dog owners. And all the staff are great with dogs too. Breakfast is always to a good standard. The restaurant and bar are quite pricey but still very nice. Definitely coming again.

There was a very nice welcome when we arrived at the Red Lion at Stiffkey. My wife is in a wheelchair & the young man was most attentive in finding a step free route into the pub. The food was good and the menu changes regularly, which according to our local friends is very much appreciated. The Wherry is an excellent pint, which is served bright from a barrel on the bar. My only observation is that the choice of wines by the glass is really quite poor. Both red wines were not really in keeping with such a fine establishment. We thoroughly enjoyed the roast cod and would definitely go back again. Please you could consider improving the wines by the glass choice to make for an even more enjoyable experience.

B
Bill Straub

The night we went there , was put into a separate room for our meal but it sounded very very loud in bar area . Had a good selection of beers

M
Mark Vines

Rooms are dated need TLC Extraction fan grill needs replacing with fixed type the noise kept you awake from the flaps in the wind. There was what I think was a door banging all night so all in all not a good night sleep for the two nights we stopped there.

V

Great staff, friendly and quick. Room was tired and needed updating. Very limited vegan menu which was expensive for a basic dish.

L
Luke Pritchard-Barrett

We had a lovely walk to the pub which we were really excited about. Great location on the Norfolk coast. When ordering a round of drinks, we were told our drinks would be brought to the table. We had to wait approx 25 mins for our drinks, despite numerous checks on when they would be ready. When asking for bar snacks, we were told they “couldn’t even do a cheeky bowl of chips!” REALL DISAPPOINTING!

L
LIz Kent

We arrived at 7pm on a Friday without a booking and the staff kindly managed to fit us in as long as we didn’t mind having a drink and waiting half an hour, which we were more than happy to do. The menu seemed quite up market and although on the expensive side we assumed the quality of the food would justify this. I started to have my doubts when I saw a member of staff, twice in half an hour, go to an outside building and come back through the conservatory restaurant with a large bag of frozen chips. As promised our order was taken after 30 minutes but we then had a lengthy wait for the food to arrive. I ordered the Mediterranean vegetable moussaka but when I started to eat it was vegetable lasagne. I didn’t complain as it was tasty but bore no resemblance to a moussaka. My husband’s and son’s burgers were very average and we couldn’t work out why the coleslaw was described as Bourbon slaw. When we asked for the bill I told the waitress about my meal, she said she would tell the chef, but we heard nothing back and paid in full for the rather overpriced meal. I also pointed out that as far as allergies go lasagne and moussaka are very different. On a final note one person eating in the restaurant had on an extremely offensive t shirt which I think most establishments wouldn’t allow. Our overall experience was very disappointing which was such a shame as Stiffkey is so beautiful and we had high hopes of an evening to match our surroundings.

Stunning part of Norfolk. Should have been a lovely place to stay and a great few days away. My room (5) was in desperate need of maintenance and a good clean. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. The radiator had rusty leaking pipes. I was unable to shower because there was no shower curtain/screen and the shower head had no wall fixings. Useful for washing hair, only. Cobwebs and a spiders nest along the top of the bathroom wall in the bedroom. A used cup and spoon on the tea tray left from the previous occupants. The door to the balcony didn't shut due to no latch. It locked but no good for using the balcony. See photos. The decking on the balcony was rotten with holes and plenty of bird poo that was rock solid (so left prior to the last room clean). The windows were filthy dirty and the blinds did not close properly, or go up or down, making the room too light in the mornings. The front door mat hadn't been shaken for far too long. I reported dogs mess in the middle of the path to the barman, he said he'd get it removed. I put a bollard beside it so nobody walked in it. In the morning someone had moved the bollard, but left the poo... so I flicked it into the bushes with a stick! The food was very limited and far too expensive for the portion sizes. So we went elsewhere for our evening meals. As lovely as it was to spend time with my brother and sister in law in a part of Norfolk where our late father and his family were all from, it was marred. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here and I certainly won't be returning to the Red Lion. You would expect at the beginning of the holiday season everything would be tip top! Such a shame!

M
Martin Robbins

Stayed for 1 night. The bedroom block was poorly presented - exterior walkway unswept and badly maintained. Bathroom: Mis-matched and cracked bathroom tiles, discoloured grouting, damaged mirror, inadequate loose shower bracket, making it unuseable, dirty shelf and window surround, loose toilet seat. Bedroom: Drink splashes on walls, paintwork excessively damaged, outdated furniture with several damaged areas, dirty tea-tray. The duvet cover had large holes in 2 corners. The balcony had not been swept or cleaned for some time. The room and block need complete refurbishment and was not worth what we paid. Breakfast was lovely and staff friendly and helpful, but the accommodation fell far short of our expectations, especially compared to what was available elsewhere for a similar price. Holt, Burnham Market, Wells and Weybourne all have pub/B and B/hotels with better attention to detail and cleanliness standards. I sent honest feedback to the Red Lion, but unfortunately, they chose not to respond.

We came here two years ago and the food was excellent, but our recent visit was disappointing. Service was overall very friendly, but slow. Another couple who arrived as we were midway through our mains, managed to finish their meal and pay before we finished dessert. The food, while by no means inedible, just wasn't great. Asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, it was well done (plus the salad wasn't even dressed). £36 for a steak that isn't cooked to your liking is steep. The ragu pappardelle was overly sweet, couldn't really taste the beef at all (plus the pasta was overcooked). My crumble was ok (hard to mess up crumble, though a bit more crumble on top would've been nice), but my partner's Eton mess was mediocre. Came on a plate not in a bowl, not very much of it and the sauce tasted store bought. It's a shame because our last experience was so good, it's like we came to a different pub.

C
Chris Shapland

We stayed in stiffey for a week and dropped in the red lion on the first night for food as its the only place in the village for food. Nice country style pub We had a Guinness a large wine and 2 bags of crisps and it was over £20! 😂 Needless to say we didn't eat there and drove into Wells for the rest of the week for food, Some very nice places there! And good prices too

L
Louise Nicholson-Smith

Eleven of us had lunch here. I was so disappointed as I had booked and informed them that there were two vegans in our group. The vegan meal was like a weight watchers meal - it was sooo small with no substance in it. The monkfish scampi was awful and burnt plus there were only five pieces of scampi! The chicken schnitzel in the caesar salad was burnt. The brisket pappardelle was a rip off as there were only a few shreds of brisket on it. We won't be going there again unless we know things have changed. (A shame as up until three years ago we would go there four or five times a year for lunch.)

We walked into the Red Lion in Stiffkey yesterday, where we had an awful experience. To begin with, when we went up to the bar to ask for a menu, the staff member we spoke to was abrupt and had an off manner straight away. He gave us a menu and we sat down and waited, as we were told that inside was table service. We watched as he served other customers. Twenty minutes later we still hadn’t been served, so went back up to the bar and asked if we could order our food. The same member of staff told us that the kitchen had closed and was no longer serving food, which was news to us. We questioned why he gave us a menu in the first place and hadn’t come and served us, knowing the kitchen was going to be closing. He was unapologetic, continued in his off manner and tried to blame us for not ordering sooner (even though it was table service inside). He then said he hadn’t taken our order as he was busy on the bar. He went and spoke to the kitchen and said they would be willing to serve us, but it would be another 20 minute wait. By then we felt so unwelcome, disappointed and disgusted with his attitude, we decided to leave and find another restaurant where we would be welcome and treated better. The whole experience ruined what had been a lovely day up until that point.
