I love love this place. It's clean, unique, and just darn tasty. It is pricey but worth the price! The servers and management are a team to deliver excellent guest experience. What are you waiting for? Come and eat here!
I love this place when I visit! The Peanut Curry (which is spicy) is amazing! This time I had the Spicy Grouper (not spicy, more sweet and sour) which was also really good. The peach sake was also amazing, tasted like candy.
My partner and I love coming here to try different dishes. Their coconut ice cream is to die for. Their martini’s are delicious and I have loved every dish I have ever tried here. Tad pricey but absolutely worth it. We come here on special occasions.
We went the Basil last night for date night and had a great experience. The food was so good! We started off with a delicious appetizer our waitress recomended, and it did not dissapoint. Her name was Sarah. And she really knew her stuff. She also made some entree suggestions, since i couldn't decide which one to get.I ended up getting the schezwan, added chicken and added a side bowl of the delicious sauce that was on our wontons.(Also Sara's suggestion). She was one of the best servers we have had in a long time. Informative, friendly and VERY attentive. I wish we had mote experiences like the one we had last night. Kudos to Basil, and Sara...you are the BEST!
I had the avocado 🥑 curry, which was excellent. There were a few pieces of avocado in it that didn't look the greatest...so I asked my server and she fixed it right away. My husband had moo goo gai pan with chicken... He said it was very good... And my father-in-law had basil chicken.. and he really liked his also.
So very good. Spicy Peanut Curry❤️
I thoroughly enjoyed the food at Basil. The bartender was very knowledgable about the menu, and expressed to me exactly what I should eat. I had the spicy fish, and it was so good! Also had some veggie pot stickers that were just perfect. The drink menu was very unique and the bartender made me a special drink with ginger! It was so amazing. Please visit this restaurant when you get a chance!
Treated myself to a delicious meal… I Love the sweet-and-sour chicken, and I love the beef lo mein. The service was also excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant when dining in downtown Wooster.
What an experience! The food was fabulous and our waiter was entertaining and on top of it. Their Honey Chicken, which is their spin on the classic Sesame Chicken dish, was great. Very crispy and the Honey sauce was light and not the thick, heavy sauce I'm accustomed too. They also had a pumpkin cheesecake that absolutely blew our minds. If you're going to stop in, you need to get a slice!
Basil has the finest Asian food that I have ever had. It was perfectly hot and seasoned. The best part was leaving with a very full tummy and not an empty wallet. The service folks were warm, amusing, and exceptionally attentive. Do yourself a favor and go to Basil today!
This place is amazing. They have a drink with dry ice that smokes, it's a really cool experience. I went there on a date and had an unforgettable experience,.....But.... There's always a butt LOL... There is often a crazy person working there, Tonight there was a huge fiasco about something. One of the waiters was making a big deal about something I couldn't understand with his accent. But they make sure to keep 1 crazy waiter around. Other than that, fantastic!.
We loved our visit here!! The food was wonderful.. very tasty.. we had the calamari for appetizer and it was great! The waiter was very helpful and the speed was perfect!!
Pretty much your standard Chinese food with some interesting twists. I had the mango stir fry with tofu, wife had a curry both were good. Some Thai and sushi options available. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was very clean and nice, probably one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I've ever visited.
Great food, unfortunately they didn't have sushi the evening I was there but other than that they have great Asian food!
Amazing meal. The Coconut spaghetti was so good. The Coconut fried bananas with ice cream was the bomb.
A trendy Asian bistro in the heart of beautiful historic Wooster. It has a modern feel with exposed ceilings and open layout. The food is as good as it looks! I ordered an egg roll for an appetizer. The spicy mustard is definitely spicy! My main dish was the Moo Goo Gai Pan with chicken. The sauce is a great blend of ginger and garlic and the vegetables were nice and crisp. Thank you for the wonderful lunch!
Food was super tasty and everyone was so nice! Also, the atmosphere is fantastic
What a delight. To wet our appetite, the smells were so enticing that our stomaches instantly started craving everything on the menu. Oh, and the wide variety on the menu made all decision making almost impossible. I think I salivate over everything on the menu longer than it took the kitchen to cook my food. The taste was time shattering causing father time himself to freeze the universe in order to allow the vast variety of flavor to absorb into the tongue. Absolutely astonished by the speed, the service, and the food. Perfect way to impress the wife and pretend to be well cultured.
I love this place. Great food in a variety of Asian styles. Really fun to sit at the bar! Always a great time here!
Great staff, amazing food selection and options. Plus with this being close to the center of town, prices are extremely reasonable for what you're getting. Thank you!
Great food and atmosphere. Food has always been perfect and we will be back again. This meal is Schezwan Chicken. Orange chicken and General Yao’s were also awesome. Edamame beans also are a great appetizer. Highly recommend if you are in Wooster or near by.
Service was slow but definitely worth the wait, food was delicious. Sushi sampler was fresh and tasty. The portions are nicely sized. Left feeling very satisfied but not overly stuffed. Will be visiting again for sure.
Food and drinks were delicious and the portions were pretty big for the price, server was really nice too. Should have made a reservation as it took a bit over an hour to get a table (hostess said it'd probably be 25 minutes but she seemed to also be asleep). Would definitely eat here again
I am a self appointed chicken connoisseur and the honey sesame chicken here is so good I had to come on here and tell someone about it. Partnered with the fried rice here creates one of the best meals I tend to have in Wooster.
We had a fantastic waitress. We like the atmosphere a lot. None of us like the Sake, definitely a acquired taste. The Pad Thai was yummy!
Excellent food, a great selection of dishes from a variety of Asian cultures; Japanese sushi, Thai noodles, Korean dishes, traditional Chinese options. Something for everyone, and great house-recipe cocktails you won't find online. Staff is always friendly, stylish atmosphere, and very clean.
This is one of THE best Asian restaurants I’ve ever been to! I look forward to the next time I visit my family here so I can hopefully go back. Their dishes are so dang tasty and fresh!!!
I am new to Wooster, Ohio. I am living here for I am new to Wooster and I've been living here for about seven months now. This is one place I keep coming back to. I love it an the food is absolutely amazing.
Amazing team and incredibly helpful and kind! We had a large togo order and all the food was made perfectly and on time! Will definitely order her again soon!
Basil is a great place to eat. The egg rolls are very good. The pineapple fried rice is excellent! The sweet and sour chicken is also a very good choice. The meals are not overly expensive and are well worth it for the quality of the food and service. I highly recommend Basil!!!
Road tripping with a friend ,we ended up at this place. I just goggle restaurants near us ,and Bazil came up. I thought a restaurant named Bazil must be good. Let me just say thank you to God for getting us there, Food was without doubt the best I had in the 13 years I been living in USA, (my family was chefs so I am a bit picky what I'm eating, also for my health.) I even ordering dessert ,though I found out the serve coconut fried bananas with ice cream ( fried bananas is a big hit in Sweden ,or was before I left)I have never found it in any Asian restaurant in USA until now ! Thank you God for letting us find this pearl of restaurant. Service was great , and we will definitely be back again. BIG thank you to the chef for the love and passion you put into this meal, and to the server for a wonderful attitude.
We always enjoy coming to Basil. Food is always perfect, the staff are great, the vibe is good.
Excellent friendly service. Attentive servers. Great food, had orange chicken with white rice. Good place to bring friends and family!!
Fast service and great food. Everyone is friendly enough but not overly friendly - but its because everyone is just so focused on doing their jobs. They're all like machines running around keeping up. No complaints! Look forward to going back in the near future.
Was on my list to stop in and try. Recently stopped in during lunch time about 11:30 is a slightly upscale bistro I was wearing work pants and work boots and button up. Was greeted by a very friendly smiling host table for one was seated very quickly and got squared away with a ice tea server was very friendly and took my order right away with a smile! My order was soon in front of me on my table hot looked fresh and appetizing both the mussel app and spicy garlic chicken with fries rice were a nice sized portion and very delicious I would definitely recommend you come try this place out and maybe make it a regular stop I'm sure dinner is just as good I will be back to try dinner at some point!!
Nice early dinner with visiting colleague from out of state. Menu offers lots of Asian options (Chinese and Thai are main themes). I had the King Pao beef and guest had vegetable stir fry. Had wontons for appetizer. We both loved the wontons and enjoyed our meals. Had mine 'Thai hot' (3 out of 5 on their hotness scale) which was spicy but not overwhelming. Service took a bit longer than one would expect for an early sitting (40 minutes?).
We stopped in while passing through Wooster OH. Our server was attentive and friendly. I had the green mango grouper which was awesome. My wife had her go too meal General Tos which was a step above most places we've have eaten in the past. Basil had a modern up scale look and feel and the restaurant was very clean.
An unexpected surprise in a nice downtown setting. Great menu options that are unique and desirable which makes for a tough decision, but also makes me want to return to try many different things. Although the menu options are unique, I feel that the flavor profile could have been kicked up a notch. I understand the typical American diet is less flavorful but what seemed to be a more authentic Thai and Asian cuisine was held back by a typical American palate. I would love a more traditional experience that gave opportunity to make that a reality.
Always great food and amazing service, especially when sitting at the bar. Can be a bit busy sometimes and cramped with large parties. Have tried to call for reservations before and never got an answer.
service left plenty to be desired. we waited 8 minutes for a water and i had to get my own soy sauce and silverware sets from the neighboring table. the rice was packed too tightly around the sushi but the coconut spaghetti and orange glazed chicken were fantastic.
I don't like sushi if it involves seafood of any kind. I know, I'm boring. I do like vegetarian rolls though. The sweet potato roll here is the absolute best vegetarian sushi I've ever tried!!! I wasn't the biggest fan of my entree but it was still pretty good, I just wouldn't get it again!
Would have given four stars, but our waitress (I think her name was Sarah) was either having a really bad day or she’s really bad at service. She almost dropped a soda into my dads lap, slammed plates on the table, never asked us if we needed anything else, brought food out at the wrong time, dropped the check off while we were still eating, forgot to bring a drink we ordered….it was very off putting and we tried to be as nice as possible but it got very old in the short time we were there. Food was delicious though and I’ll go again for sure, just hopefully not seated in her section.
We ordered an appetizer called Satay. It’s by far the best I’d had but the main course was a little disappointing to me after reading all the raving reviews on google. The quality of food was only average. 😔
Paid $15 for Pad Thai and requested Thai hot. The pad Thai was about a pound of rice noodles and not much toppings, very Midwestern Hot Dish, and "Thai hot" was laughably mild to not even be close to making this worth it. Thoroughly underwhelming from what I'm used to but for rural Ohio, probably as good as they come. Service was fast and competent and the interior design was good.
The food was okay and the light flickering bothersome. We arrived for lunch and were immediately met and seated by a friendly hostess. The expansive menu was explained very well and in detail by our server. We opted to share two appetizers and each get a bowl of soup. The wonton soup had vegetables in the broth and tasted delicious; very different from others we’ve had before. The two appetizers ordered were Salt and Pepper Calamari and Thai Dumplings. The calamari was more sweet than savory, a taste we were not expecting. We would have liked it better to not have the sugar added to the batter. The Thai Dumplings were okay; and we probably would not order them again. The biggest reason for a 3-Star score was the flickering of the overhead light; and this is something that should receive attention ASAP! I needed to leave the area where the flickering was happening for health reasons. Overall, the food was alright, although nothing to write home about, and the atmosphere definitely needed some repairs.
The food was okay, but the customer service was extremely disappointing. There was no greeting when we walked in and we were barely acknowledged when being seated. Several employees were loudly discussing personal matters and using their phones in front of guests. As I was leaving on crutches, every staff member, except one kind kitchen worker, just stared while I struggled with the door and continued to gossip. Very disappointing experience overall.
This place came highly recommended. Start with the good, wait staff was excellent. I got the wonton soup, and the happy family. I was highly underwelmed. Wonton soup tasted like water. Happy family was supposed to have scallops. Like 1.5 scallops and sauce tasted like cheap sauce I can buy in the grocery store.
I generally like the atmosphere of dining here but ordering take out is a much different scenario. This is the second time I have ordered take out where they have forgot part of my order. Both times, I have called and informed the restraunt but I got the same response, that they would just let the manager know. Second time, my boyfriend picked up the order and didn't double check it. However, we shouldn't have to double check our order, especially when ordering sushi. Didn't get any Wasabi, ginger or soy sauce. Very unfortunate that them letting the manager know doesn't change the fact that they don't double check the orders they put out before pick up.
I can’t say we had a pleasant meal here. In fact it rated low as a dining and culinary experience. There’s a lot of potential here but the distractions knocked my overall score down by 1 star to 2 stars. Server was pleasant and on point throughout the meal but obviously overworked. It was 6 ish and dinner business was picking up so I can understand the busy rush. Tables on each side of ours experienced long serve times as well which confirmed that to me. The bartender was making very loud crashes and bangs every minute or so, even throwing dishes into a bin causing loud crashes. At first I thought it was me but the customer sitting at next table kept jumping in their seat being startled at the loud noises. I’ve sat next to busy kitchens before and this noise was unnecessary and just made me wonder what was going on with the bartender, is this a thing for this restaurant? Yes restaurants can be loud and noisy but this completely detracted from the meal from the intermittent loud bangs and crashes. They need to check the acoustics in the restaurant if this is their thing. The final bill is a crazy combo of cash price and credit price. I’m very wary of credit cards getting charged a fee now and honed in on this. So I was told cash price is a discount but here was the trick: I didn’t have the menu to compare prices and once i handed over my cash the server took the itemized bill and did not return any cash receipt. Misleading at least, deceptive at worst. They can leave the itemized receipt for customers for full transparency. Now for the kicker of what prompted me to write this, and is the most important. Both my spouse and I experienced illness after the meal. My spouse was sick immediately after in the car and I had to run to the bathroom the next morning. I judge a restaurant by waiting a few days after to see my stomach’s response. Both of us had problems and it rarely happens for both of us because we order different food groups. I stay away from seafood in restaurants unless if it is deep fried. Spouse always eats the seafood boiled or in soup. What happened to us usually happens if there is an over abundance of MSG used. I don’t know if this is the case…..my food tasted good but my spouse said it tasted bad at the get go, so the 2 day rule applied…..but it only lasted to the next morning to make a decision. As I wrote above, lots of potential here but needs attention.
Not good. Bland food, mushy noodles in pad se ew, terrible Korean seafood soup, the waiter offered a dish in place of what I got that was really bad, but I still got charged for everything including the replacement dish lol I just paid for it all and left but save yourself and go to the pho place down the street. Fried shrimp app was good though, so if you must go here get that, or sushi.
