Opinions de Coco's Ramen Alameda
Just had dinner at Cocos Ramen. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen, Chicken Yakitori, and a Philly Roll. The Chicken Yakitori was really good — juicy, not overcooked, super solid. The Philly Roll was about a 4/5 for me. In a few pieces it felt like there was barely any Philadelphia cheese — you can even see it in the photos — but the fish itself was great and overall the roll still tasted good. The Tonkotsu Ramen was also a 4/5. The broth felt a little light for my taste, almost a bit watery — not in a bad way, just not as rich as I usually expect. Still tasty, just not a perfect 5 out of 5 for me this time. But overall, really enjoyed it. Great service, super friendly staff, cozy and authentic vibe. Overall — 5/5.
Tenzen was amazing! We really enjoyed talking to him and most importantly the food was amazing, very fresh. He also recommended great sake to go along with it. I’ll definitely come back again.
The food, the vibe, and especially Tenzin the chef were all amazing. This was more of an experience paired with a dinner as opposed to just food. The omakase was so good that I've made plans to come back in two days. The service is top-tier friendly and the energy of the place is extremely inviting. Would HIGHLY recommend you to visit. Also, the sake collection is great. This place bumped up to my favorite restaurant in the city.
Overall 3/5 - Food 3; Ramen broth, noodles and toppings were good. Except our chasu was so tough I had to send it all back to the kitchen. The egg was old. Karaage was soggy. Rolls were mediocre. I ordered the roll with coconut and mango just to try something different and it was an explosion of interesting flavors in my mouth. Service 4; not outstanding but not bad. Atmosphere 3; were given paper plates to eat off of and the tea came in a paper cup. Seating is very close together. I would come back and only have vegetable ramen.
Coco Ramen does not disappoint. The chicken broth, pork broth, and seafood broth each have a distinct flavor. They give you the option to add regular or black garlic. Black garlic is best for an umami taste and it's what I ordered with pork miso broth. There are four spice levels and I ordered the "spicy" expecting it to be mild. It was proper spicy without losing flavor. In addition we ordered veggie tempura and a chef's special of avocado/cream cheese wrapped in wonton. Each were perfectly crispy and flavorful. Highly recommended. We plan to return to try the sushi. I have a feeling it will be just as delicious.
Okay Coco - I’m a believer! Your seafood ramen was delicious with its chicken and scallop broth, plenty of noodles, and lots of seafood (although I disliked having to peel my shrimp - I forgive you). The Fairytale roll was a fairytale come true in my mouth. The salmon sashimi was fresh, thick and buttery. But only three slices?! Again, forgiven thanks to your delicious food and attentive service. Ambiance was cozy and a bit obscure on a busy Mission street. Glad you’re so near!
Amazing Ramen! This place was great, service was great, food was awesome! If you are in the area, I would recommend! Spice was great, also pleased with the extras (like chicken katsu)! I recommend the spicy miso ramen! Noodles tasted hand pulled, sushi and sashimi are also served here! Got a taste of everything!
Love the new sushi bar. Thank you Tintin and Carol for the awesome experience and delicious food. We’ll be coming back soon!

Hands down the best ramen I’ve had in San Francisco! Service was great and so fast. The ramen itself was delicious and flavorful. Also got the Lion King roll which was great as well! This is a small spot, with a cozy atmosphere. This will be my go to ramen spot. Would highly recommend.
My partner is a personal chef and he discovered this little ramen spot in the city last year. Ever since then, he has not stopped talking about it — seriously, an entire year of him raving about how amazing it was. We are both huge ramen lovers, so I knew I had to try it for myself. This past weekend, I finally did, and wow, it completely lived up to the hype. Out of all the ramen we have ever had, this was hands down the best. Every bite was packed with flavor, perfectly balanced, and comforting in a way that only really great ramen can be. The people running the place were just as wonderful as the food. The woman and her daughter working there were warm, friendly, and made the whole experience feel so personal and welcoming. The restaurant itself is small but cozy, the kind of place that makes you want to linger over your bowl and soak in the atmosphere. I left feeling completely satisfied, already planning the next time I can go back. If you love ramen, this is an absolute must-try.
I don't want to try ramen anywhere else. I love love love their chicken ramen. The broth, the way the chicken is cut and the veggie inside are perfect. You can pick your spice level and the kind of garlic you would like. The music is always good.

Pretty great little local spot! Not too crowded on a weekday (I was early and my date was late and yet the staff didn't get annoyed I was hogging a table since some were still open). Cozy Japanese decor (albeit slightly uncomfortable seating). Friendly but not harassing staff. Decent food and a wider selection of drinks than I'd expect. Amazing presentation of food. Overall a decent spot, and I hope to one day try their ramen since that's their namesake!
It is always a pleasure to come here as I just love the taste of their Ramen. In short, I use them as the benchmark for how I judge others. Yes, there are others better and some worse for sure, but these folks seem to match my palate the best. I don't get to visit this place as often as I'd like, mainly because the neighborhood is congested and parking is hard to find, hardly their fault, but it's just a fact of life. However, whenever I visit this place, it's like coming back to my Ramen home.
Nice place in the mission, cozy spot. Your average, if not typical Japanese restaurant. 2 dining rooms with a sushi bar. Clean restrooms. They offer rice plates, ramen and sushi. The ramen is pricey as they do charge for extras. About $20 a bowl. Large filling bowls though. Their noodles are on the thicker, filling side. I prefer the thinner noodles. Broth is rich as expected and preferred. Appetizers are filling and averaging around $10. Their medium is pretty spicy 🌶️ so choose wisely. Their side pork is marinated and good. Kaarage was brought as a healthy serving but not as crispy as expected. Got a bit soggy at the end. Mixed tempura is worth it as they give your generous servings. A lot of crispy flakes but the shrimp is quite thin on the inside. Veggies were in between crispy and soggy like the kaarage. The sauce for karaage was good with a kick. Will try the squid kaarage next time. The parking is metered but only cost us less than $3 using the app. The pork katsu that came with my curry ramen was a bit tough but good. I guess we are used to the chicken katsu which is more tender. The curry flavor was rich but medium spicy kind of drowns out the flavor. Will have to get mild on the next order. I would recommend this place as a first date or if you want something quiet. Not too crowded. The music playing was very nice. Healthy servings enough for dinner and lunch the next day. Oh and after dinner, we grabbed Mitchell’s ice cream down the street! Enjoy my friends!
My brother and I came at 6:30pm on a Saturday and found ourselves with a short 5 minute wait. We did end up sharing a table with another party of 2 though because space is a premium here. I opted for garlic miso ramen, mild spicy, with pork shoulder while my brother went with curry ramen, medium spicy, with pork belly. At first, I felt like my noodles were a little less than al dente and too chewy, but as I let it soak in the broth a little longer, it did eventually reach the right chewiness for me. But what was most memorable for me was the pork shoulder! Most places slice their char-siu paper thin so to come to a place that gave (3) solid 1/4" slices was amazing! It was also tender and super flavorful to boot - a must try, in my opinion! I also traded one slice to my brother for a slice of the pork belly. It was also very good: tender and melt in your mouth decadent...but I definitely felt like the char-siu is a winner here. We also opted to share an order of agedashi tofu. Delivered piping hot and freshly fried, I thought it hit all the right notes. All in all, as far as ramen goes in San Francisco, I have to say that Coco's Ramen was probably one of the better ones I've had lately. Portion size is very fair, quality is great, and price point is right without all the nickel and dime extras.

There's a good amount of style happening at this little ramen-ya. The interior is pretty dark with lots of rich wooden fixtures making for a cozy atmosphere. Their menu offers seven different varieties of traditional and modern bowls but on this visit I sampled the Miso Ramen. The miso broth was excellent with a dark color and a solid medium spice. The noodles were fantastic - wavy with decent firmness. The garnish included a soy egg that was cooked to my ideal firmness. Bamboo, fungi, and sprouts were also included as garnish. My main complaint is that the bowl contained too many sprouts. The chashu pork was very good with a nice smokey flavor. The chashu was cooked a cooked a little more well done than some of the other recent bowls I've had but that really worked to it's advantage. My wife was even a fan and she never usually enjoys the chashu. Overall, this bowl was satisfying and packed with flavor.
We like Coco’s for our local ramen joint. Solid ramen, solid sushi. Some good sushi specials. Super cute Japanese interior. Good, friendly service- mostly very fast. Yes, the pork belly is mostly fat so I skip that although i love pork belly. Major con, and this makes me heavily consider whether I go here: the music is atrocious. Just godawful. It’s like new rap or something, full of terrible language and grating on the ears. Next time I go I may check first to see what’s on before I suffer through another meal in that musical hellscape.

If I have to tag this place then the only thing that comes to mind is: A sad demonstration of culinary skills and the output doesn't resemble Japanese cuisine... So when I try a Ramen or Yzakaya place then I keep my choices simple but specific. Agedashi tofu, grilled squid and pork katsu don. Simple but ... First out was a salad and miso soup . The salad was delivered straight from the plastic bag it was purchased in. No prep but dry spinach with a squirt of some over sweet industrial dressing. Nasty .. the miso soup was alright but not enough to lift the overall experience. The tofu itself again not bad but served with coarsely chopped green onions on even more coarsely chopped bed of cabbage. Green onion must have been the ingredient of the day as it was served in almost every dish. I suggest trying Katsuobushi to go along with the tofu. The squid was also disaster, it's tentacles were over cooked and not eatable and the body of the squid was under cooked and chewy.. I felt sorry for the squid, a life waste and then ignored in the chefs kitchen. The pork katsu ... Omg even the pork had to suffer. Overfried and dry and the curry didn't do justice to a what a japanese curry is. On the plus side they don't make their own beer, at the least the Asahi lived up to it's reputation.

We love the food here, but the service is consistently pretty bad. The staff is very inattentive and getting their attention to seat you or get the bill takes a minimum of 5-10 minutes despite being the only people in the building. Overall I love the food here, but probably won't be back since the last 3 times we were here there was subpar service.

We went to Coco's Ramen on a Friday afternoon, and the place was completely empty...not sure if that’s a good sign. The waiter/owner was very nice and polite. We both got the Chashu ramen, but unfortunately, the “meat” was mostly fat with very little actual meat. The ramen itself was mediocre, nothing to rave about, but also nothing really to criticize.

The tonkatsu ramen was mediocre at best. The pork belly looked boiled vs the crispy pork belly seen in all the picture reviews. It was extremely flabby with barely any meat . The chicken gyoza wasn’t bad. The smell of the place upon walking in was heavily reminiscent of a foul broccoli. Very unpleasant.

🍜Sorry to say this is not the ramen you are looking for. Pleasant (but inattentive) Chinese folks run this place. The pork belly and sliced pork were both ‘send it back’ overcooked. 😕 but the noodles were good. Broth options: Tonkatsu: 👎👎 Curry: 👎 Shoyu: 👍👍👍 Meat: Pork belly:👎 Char siu (sliced grilled pork): 👎👎

This was a DoorDash order. The chicken curry was disgusting. The chicken was tough, the curry was soggy and gross, and there was no spice. A supermarket curry powder pack would have been better. Please do not order from them
