“Star chef Reem Assil marks her return to the Mission with this new outpost of her flagship cafe-bakery, located in the recently vacated Mission Pie space. Expect the usual selection of flatbread sandwiches that are Assil’s biggest claim to fame, plus an expanded inventory of Arab sweets and pastries” SF Eater
Don’t take it from me: in the words of a friend who has lived in Lebanon and Cairo, “this is the best Arabic food I’ve had on this continent”. Everything is delicious, especially the zaatar manoush and the muhamara. The only problem is that after this, every pita you have in the rest of your life will seem sad by comparison.
Stumbled on this spot and was seriously impressed. The Arabic food was incredible. It was rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. What really stood out was the California twist. Fresh ingredients, creative touches, and nothing felt heavy or overdone. Every dish had its own personality, and everything I tried was just so good. You can tell they really know what they’re doing in the kitchen!
Wonderful and delicious food. The wraps and breads are great and the knafeh so tasty!
I love this place! Best mezze platter in SF. Delicious wraps! I always have their Arab Bread and Zaatar Manoushe in my freezer.
The best!!! Reem and her entire team are amazing chefs and community members. Always supporting the community and bringing folks together over the most delicious food and drink 🫶🏼🙏🏼
It's really clean, the staff is nice, and the food never disappoints. So many things to choose from but get the Pali Cali a lot (Palestinian musakhan). And the pastries are so good! I always end up taking some to go.
I had a hot za’atar manoushe and a cold hibiscus rose drink to go with it. So good on a hot day! Must come back when I have time to stay and eat in. And definitely wanted to buy some of the spices, coffee beans, and cookbooks from their retail shelf. Next time!
Without a doubt, one of the Mission's finest small eateries. They specialize in wonderful, freshly baked Middle Eastern specialties: pita bread (soft, warm and delicious!), baklava, knafeh (flaky phyllo layers and sweet cheese, melted), fatayer (savory Arab turnovers) – all delicious! We try to order brunch every weekend, so far always "to go". Lately, they have been opening up the small inside part of the cafe (which used to be Mission Pie) and it looks cozy! And a cute outdoor deck on 25th Street works well on warm days. Sadly the atayef for 2025 (the special Ramadan pastries) come without the delicious syrup of previous years – without it, they are a bit dry and chewy. But still delicious!
Reem’s California Mission is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, you’re embraced by the warmth of Palestinian hospitality and the incredible aromas coming from the kitchen. The food is outstanding - every dish is made with such care and authenticity. The mana’eesh is perfectly crispy and flavorful, the falafel is some of the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot!), and don’t even get me started on the za’atar bread. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and bursting with flavor. But what really sets Reem’s apart is the heart behind it. You can feel the love and pride in every aspect - from the quality ingredients to the thoughtful service to the beautiful way they celebrate Palestinian culture and cuisine. The staff is friendly and welcoming, always happy to explain dishes or make recommendations. This place is doing something really special - serving incredible food while creating community and sharing an important piece of Palestinian heritage. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a meal, Reem’s delivers every single time. Absolutely can’t recommend it enough!
Order: - Falafel Wrap: my go to - The Pali Cali: delicious - Cheese Man'oushe: ordered it with cheese and without, love both - Chocolate Chip Halawa Cookie: to die for - Cardamom Cold Brew Coffee: classic Arabic coffee with a new twist Notes: Whenever I feel nostalgic and miss Kuwait, I go to Reem’s mission. Great music and atmosphere. I’ve dined in and ordered take out, always delivers. To not skip the cookie
Casual eatery with great food! We had the chicken flatbread and the muhammara - both were delicious. They had beer and wine also available. You pay for food at the counter and they come to your table with it when it’s ready.
Stylish, tasteful and relaxed sophistication. A very California take on Middle Eastern classics. Falafel Salad is satisfyingly good, with enough of a savory crunch to satiate even the most avid of meat eaters. Perfect for a friendly catch up or a first date with someone very health conscious.
Tucked in San Francisco’s Mission District, this cozy Mediterranean spot blends rustic charm with vibrant flavors. Guests enjoy mezze, wood-fired kebabs, and fresh seafood, paired with local wines and craft cocktails. Warm service and lively energy make it a favorite for both casual nights and celebrations.
So I was asked by a friend to try their Pali Cali. I didn't even know what they look like but finally I gave it a shot today. It was good. The spices were very interesting. Chicken well done. Bread was very authentic. It was a good experience. Though I know a Mediterranean place is good from their falafel. Next on my list. Vibe: 5 stars - The Arabic music, fresh flowers, and a candle on the table ♥️
Very sweet restaurant. The Lady at the counter was honestly so sweet and the food tasted amazing! A little long wait for a salad and not many people there, but it was worth it! Bit pricy for the portion size. The Falafel was delicious!!
I love Reem's. I always get the Pali Cali which is delicious. The baba ghanouj and falafel were also great. The cheesy phylo dessert was also amazing. The staff was super friendly and the space was cozy and comfortably accommodated our group of 5 at 7pm on a Friday night. My only complaint is that the musician was loud.
We ordered through Doordash. We got Pali Cali (rolled up), Hummus with slow-roasted lamb, and Damascus Lemonade. Since we picked up right when it was ready and it was piping hot so we found a street to eat immediately. Cali Pali was so juicy. Surprisingly, I liked the pickled onions on the Cali Pali - they were sweet! The hummus with lamb was good but I wish we received more then one pita bread for it... I made sure I ate my fill to the fullest before letting my partner take their bite first!
Honestly like the flavors a lot. But the portions are tiny.... Ordered the fatteh, flatbread, and the custard dessert. The dessert was the best thing here!!!! Also don't order those coffees... Taste funky and we didn't finish
Za'atar Man'oushe (flatbread with wild thyme, sumac, sesame seeds, olive oil, and salt) delicious! Baba Ghanoush comes with picked vegetables & olives, no complaints. Kunafah comes out pipping hot and couldnt have been better. Recommend the trip out here for a nice meal! Photo of Reem's - Oakland, CA, United States. Baba Ghanoush Baba Ghanoush
I loved Rheem's!! I'm glad I got to try them when I went back sf. Their Flatbread and dips are delicious (habibi's harvest flatbread pictured with the squash and pomegranate was so good!!) and their sweets are so good too. This is a perfect place for cozy catch-ups for big or small groups. The food was super affordable (especially for sf!) And I liked that they are community focused as well. Highly recommend.
Amazing food/ flavors. Full sit down menu (counter service) but also great pastries & coffee. Shakshuka tart is a must ifykyk 🤤

the mural is what makes this place extra unique. I love these colors, coffee was okay, good unique offerings with education on what is being served. what I did not like was that it was so expensive but I guess that's just California

I never write reviews, but this was the best Arab food I've outside of my grandmothers home. Everything was super authentic and so delicious! The music was fantastic, they have incredible drinks and souvenirs to purchase. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

I had an average experience last week, but I want to give them another try, that may be it was a bad day for all of us. As far as service goes it is a stand up order at the front situation and when I had a question the man behind the counter left and went into the back, I read over the menu and thought I was ordering a wrap called Shakshuka as there was nothing really saying it wasn't, my bad for not asking questions. My spouse ordered the falafel wrap and we both ordered coffees and sat down. It did take at least 10 minutes for our coffees to arrive one being a cardamon that my spouse did like, and my Americano tasted good. Now after 5 more minutes my spouses wrap arrived at the table. Then we waited and waited and waited, after waiting almost 25 minutes I asked the food runner who spoke no English that I dont have my food, then I waited another 5 minutes then my eggs in a skillet in sauce with a pita came out. Thats when I burned my mouth on scalding hot eggs that were over cooked and then I had to wait another 10 minutes for it to cool down to eat. The pitta tasted yeasty. After trying with a burnt mouth I could not taste my food, I was pissed at both the food and service and no one saying it would take 30 minutes to get the food nor apologized for forgetting my order in the oven. I left disappointed at the meat choices and wondering if it was a one time thing or would I go back. I would visit again with the Inkind App discount, but other than that its simply overpriced and not worth it. I've attached my Inkind referral code if you would like to try and get a discount on your first order. Just avoid the Shakshuka and you should be fine or at least let it cool a few minutes. On a positive note, the space is very cute, bright and a great view out to Mission Street. Also, we did find free parking a block away on Shotwell that avoided paying parking meters and was 1 hour parking.
The food was very delicious. The manaeesh were perfectly done and seasoned. The falafel was a bit burned for our but it tasted good with the taheena sauce. The only thing was that you don’t feel the Arabic vibes in the restaurant such as putting on Arabic music. And there was no bottled water nor fresh juices. Overall, would come back again.
Very good food served in a casual atmosphere. They close at 3pm so lunch is a perfect time to visit. Arab street food but California style. BTW..they make their own Pita bread. Beer & Wine served.
Came on their 2nd day, got a few items. It’s a little pricey considering everything feels very snacky. But that said everything was tasty and well seasoned. The laughing cow ka’ik was the best thing we tried, it honestly tastes like a bagel I’ve been searching for my whole life. All of the breads had great flavor on their own. I’d love to try it once the menu is more fleshed out. Currently they only serve lunch starting at 11am (otherwise it’s only coffee and a few baked goods), hopefully that will change once they add more hours.
Fortune smiled on me as I ended up at Reem's California before meeting friends. Quality eats and drinks, starting with a lightly cardamom cold brew. ☕ Then on to the mana'eesh! This Arab flatbread is floppy in the middle, so must be eaten folded, like NYC pizza. I added bastura, an air-dried beef, to this summer special with corn, serrano peppers, and harissa yogurt sauce. One is definitely large enough for two people. 🍕 And the finale, which they are known for: a tahini chocolate chip cookie. Oh, that was divine. Perfect crunch on the outside, softness in the center, almost as big as a side plate, and with lots of delicious sesame and chocolate flavor. 🍪 I definitely will be back to try their small plates in the future.

Be advised that you have to pay an extra 21% on takeout here and they won't tell you that before the credit card processing system asks you to tip on the bill! Absurd. 20% "Worker Resilience Charge" and a 1% "Zero Food Print" charge. What even is that? Takeout should not be upcharged over 20% and especially without making it obvious up front BEFORE asking for a tip on top of that!
I don't know if I missed something but the food and the service were ok, and it's kind of confusing (if it is your first time at this place) how the mechanic of being seated and ordering your food work, I had to ask several times to know what to do (I looked for signs/instructions everywhere and you can only find the menu and the instructions to takeout orders). For lunch, yesterday I had: - Akkawi (flatbread with cheese and I added avo) - La Gringa sandwich (slow-cooked lamb, Oaxaca cheese, onions, herbs, and dipping broth) - Shakshuka (2 eggs poached in tomato red pepper sauce, herbs, and fresh-baked pita) I am not sure if I will come back or try something else on its menu in a different location.
Nothing was terrible but nothing really amazed me. The manaeesh were very thin crust which I liked, but the dough was fairly dry. I ordered the meat option and I literally couldn’t taste or see the meat. I know that the Palestinian version is lighter on the meat than the Lebanese style of lahm bi ajeen, which is why I typically prefer it, but it was maybe a tablespoon (if that) of meat on a whole order, mixed in with sauce that obfuscated it completely. Kind of insane that it’s $13. The shakshuka was great. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce + bread were really great. The ful was okay. Could have had more garlic in it rather than cooked garlic on it, as well as seasoning and veggies in it. It was a bit bland. The cold brew tasted great but I think it was hot coffee thrown on ice (which was consuming because it’s cold brew), because the ice melted by the time our food arrived and then it was just diluted room temp coffee. Overall nothing was terrible, and I understand SF rent, permit, and insurance prices. The issue wasn’t the price, the issue is that they seemed to skimp. I also found it weird that the tip of 20% was added in already, which isn’t the norm for a fast-casual type place that encourages you to order from a QR code on your phone. I would tip that much anyways but the obligation isn’t known until you’re going to check out on your phone. There was also a nominal carbon offset fee… also odd, and where they put that money towards isn’t listed on their website.

The menu is vegetarian friendly but lacked flavor in our opinion. The baba ghanoush was very average and only had one pita bread to spread on. The pickled vegetables were average. The flatbreads were large but below average on flavor. I ordered the la gringa which resembled a large pita quesadilla that came with a dip. The cheese added flavor and saved the dish. I usually don’t mind a fixed gratuity charge but our waiter vocalized being stressed and the only one staffed at 6p on a Saturday. He was sassy and annoyed that he forgot to bring us menus (no QR codes at the table). I don’t blame him but management should try to staff comfortably. The cafe is overall cute but we saw someone actively tagging a pole in front of the property and there was high pitched sound persistently coming from the kitchen area. I wanted to like this restaurant but found too many areas lacking.
Food was good and our server gave good recommendations. However, portions were small and service wasn't great: they did not bring enough glasses, plates, or silverware for our party and basically didn't stop by besides to take our order or to drop off food. We had to grab things from other tables so we could start eating. On top of poor service, they charge a 20% "Employee Resilience Fee" at time of ordering instead of tipping at the end of the meal which made us only more frustrated by the lack of service that we paid for upfront. It was not very busy and our server was sitting at a table on their phone for most of the time we were there. We shared plates tapas style and would've continued to order food, but as soon as we put our forks down, they took all of our dishes and silverware without asking if we were done which was pretty awkward.
It's August 2022 and these guys are still discriminating against vaxxed and unvaxxed. Only vaxxed were able to dine in. No other restaurant in San Francisco and the surrounding areas have asked me once about my vax status. I overlooked this and still gave them a chance. I ordered a Falafel, meat pie and a cheese pie. The falafel was ok, nothing special, had much better. The dough was off for the manaeesh, more like a thin crust pizza, they barely put 3akawye cheese and the meat pie was too spicy...over powering.

They lie about their ingredients. Don’t go here, they are untrustworthy. I don’t eat seed oils and I asked them (so has multiple others). They highlighted they only use olive oil, but it’s not true. You might not care, but this goes to show they way they do business. Attached is their premade items. Showcasing it’s not olive oil at all.
As an Arab, I hate to leave bad reviews on Arab owned places, but the food was below average ( I can make at home better than that) , low in quantity for the price, and worst of all , I ended up with food poisoning. I knew it when I first received my hummus with meat on top, that the meat didn't look right, and it didn't taste right either. 5 hours later I find my self vomiting. I also found something really hard in the food that I can't identify and didn't expect to be there. See pictures, I couldn't even finish the food and threw it away.
$18 for the small watermelon and feta salad. It felt like day time theft. otherwise the place was solid.
This was some of the saddest Arab food I have ever had. The babaganoush and hummus had zero flavor. Not traditional by any stretch of the imagination. Disappointing
