Had Christmas Eve dinner here and definitely 5 stars! Their clay pots are delicious and amazingly cheap for SF in 2025. Put this on the delicious cheap eats of 2026 list! They start at $13 for a lot of options and come out hot and well portioned with plenty of protein on top. Let it sit for a bit and you get that crispy rice that cracks loudly when you bite into it. We had the chicken and sausage claypot and the traditional yellow eel one. Generous portions of meats. We also tried the lamb with tofu skin which had a rich lamb flavor and huge chunks of lamb for $15. Some of the lamb pieces have a good chunk of fat but lamb is like that. The sauce is delicious on that dish so I recommend to try something with lamb for sure. We also got the Chinese broccoli (well cooked and good portion) and pork intestines which were delicious and great texture. Final dish was the salt and pepper fish which was light and crispy on the outside and soft and piping hot on the inside. If you get takeout, throw some of those fish fillets on some Hawaiian rolls with some tartar sauce and have some awesome Fillet o Fish sliders! First page of the menu is all the clay pots (crispy rice!). This is a mom and pop place with basic decor but great food and shockingly low prices, especially for the portion sizes and quality. Please come here and support this business so they stay open so I can keep coming here. You won't regret it.
Came here for a late lunch and there were plenty of tables available. They had a tv showing a Chinese cooking show. Service was fast. Clay pots had a very nice crisp to all the edges. The rice was well flavored from the ones we ordered. Spare ribs was standard. Lamb was really good. Definitely more than a person serving each.
So delicious! Definitely one of the best Chinese spots in all of SF. It’s super underrated and every time I’ve been it’s been very empty, and I just cannot understand why. The Mapo Tofu is out of this world - spicy, cilantro-y, tangy, and savory. The green beans were done perfectly, and clay pot rice is so reasonably priced and crackly at the edges. All together a must visit! I will certainly be coming back much more in the future 🥰🥰 The service is kind and sweet and it seems to be staffed by a family, but English is not their first language. Regardless they were lovely and very helpful. The prices are insane. For huge portions, each dish is only in 10-15$ range, which is fantastic given that each dish can easily feed 2 and more. We ordered 3 things between 2 people, and the leftovers are more than enough for dinner too.
Food is amazing here! The clay pot rice got some magnificent crispiness to it. Highly recommend getting the duck and the chives stir fry as well. The price is really good for the quality of the food! They take a break around 3 and reopen around 5, but if you call ahead and ask they will serve you.
Went here on a Thursday night in December. It was kind of empty, underrated imo!! Just my family and another table. We ordered 3 clay pots from the taishan clay pot list (I think it's the first page) #1, #3, #13. Should be the taishan yellow eel, spare rib & Chinese sausage, and braised beef. For veggies we ordered pea sprouts (? dow mew in canto) and bittermelon. Our meal came with complimentary seaweed soup. - Spare rib & Chinese sausage clay pot rice was SCRUMPTIOUS! Though I may be biased since I just like those flavors more lol - Yellow eel comes in second. There were plenty and long pieces of the eel. - Braised beef was ok at best. Would not order that again. Just don't prefer it in that format, i.e., prepared differently I would probably enjoy it. Not a knock on the restaurant/chef at all. - The veggies were good. I do remember the bittermelon having that wok hey to it. And with all claypot, expect there to be a wait. I feel like maybe we waited 20 mins? They came out faster after the first one. Also the crispy "burnt" rice was excellent... Just the right amount of crunch. They will pour soup into it afterwards if you request it. Lastly, I will say I think they are very underpriced compared to some other claypot restaurants I've been to. And also just SF in 2023. We were a family of 4 and after tip was probably close to $100. Based on my experience, I would definitely come here again. I'd like to try other dishes.
The beef and egg clay pot rice was delicious and was great value for the price. I got a box of food and a container of broth for only about $14 after tax. The beef, which there was plenty of, and egg were perfectly cooked. Some of the rice was crisped, which is normal for clay pot rice dishes. The rice was seasoned with a bit of soy sauce and there was a container of soy sauce mixed with sesame oil with a slice of jalapeno. The broth had carrots, tofu, and tofu skin and was delicious. I ordered to go and had to wait about 20 minutes for my order. The interior is the same from when it was a different restaurant called Dong Bei Mama. Service was ok. Overall, I recommend coming to this new restaurant because the food is delicious and the prices are low for this city.
A small hole in the wall restaurant that passerbys might miss, this Taishan establishment serves great claypot rice and other Cantonese staples. Get the five-spice duck. I highly recommend people visit this place, especially since the prices are very reasonable.
Delicious food. We had the beef clay pot and Ma Po tofu. The Ma Po tofu was the best I've ever had, with different chilies providing varied spicy notes.
Very tasty Taishan food; family-run, low-key place. The service is good; every item was flavorful.
Taishan style, delicious, you will love with it after you taste it! we all like it very much! We will be back again! Highly recommended! ! !
The clay pot rice was legit, actually has proper crispy crust, generous amount of eel and Chinese sausage.

Hidden gem! Best clay pot I’ve had in SF, and their duck is a must-try! Super good value as well
We asked the waitress for no added salt and MSG. I have high blood pressure. Food came out perfect. We ordered two clay pots, 5-spice spareribs & seafood which included shrimp and fish filet pieces. The crispness of the rice was perfect. The jasmine rice was fragrant. I liked the bitter melon with beef. The yu choy in soup was just ok, and I wound not get that again. I plan to return and try some other dishes.

The food is very tasty, depending on what u order. The dishes in the clay pot are very flavorful, but the dishes in the lotus leaves were lacking some flavor and sauce. Their veggies were cooked to perfection... Definitely worth a try! My favorite is #3.
Came for dinner to try something different from our regular HK style food. My mom's family is from Toisan. They speak Toisan here and understand Canto. Foodbis basic confort food. Super yum crispy rice at the bottom of the clay pot is a must. Nothing was bad. All delicious, and I can't wait to bring my mom. Enough food for leftovers the next day!
Me and a friend dropped in for lunch. They now carry out a promotion getting one free vegi dish by ordering three clay pots. I ordered a preserved meat clay pot rice. We were provided some peanuts and soup while waiting. Service was great. It took around 15mins for the clay pots ready to be served, which was fast. The preserved meat is too fat and the rice is oily. Sausage tase good though. Price of the clay pot rice is very competitive. It would be even better if the rice is less soggy with oil.
Tasty fare. They even included complimentary soup to warm us up - much appreciated.

Foods awesome for the price. The yellow eel is clearly frozen obviously, so it has close to zero flavor. Everything else is awesome though.

Decent fried rice and tofu stew. Service is very slow and they don’t speak English well- Google translate helped so it was all good!

Service that’s terrible, don’t know how to authentically cook taishan style rice. The meat tastes like red wine and was inedible because of that. The waitress kept hurrying me to pay all the time. Even for the 90s, this places interior was disgusting, with most of the utensils they give you are dirty.
I rated this restaurant 5 stars about 5 months ago. I came here again last month. Their business is better than 5 months ago. But obviously this family is unable to handle the increased volume. Service is not good anymore. I am charging my rating to one star. My original review follows: Yesterday was July 4th. I was trying to get Japanese food from Bento Peak which is cross street. Unfortunately Bento didn’t open so I came to this place. I made the right decision. This is a family own restaurant and they just took the ownership a few months ago from the old owner. It was a northeast Chinese restaurant before the ownership change and rebrand. I definitely like the current Taishan style better. The owner’s wife is friendly and gave me information about which vegetables are fresh at that day. Highly recommend everyone to give it a try to support local businesses. On the menu, it lists beer. But actually it doesn’t have. They don’t have license yet.
