I absolutely love this place. Great jazz like almost every night. And I love going to the bar entrance, not the restaurant. It’s a bar with bloody great jazz musicians in the middle of it. And their Martini Espressos are so damn good. PS: I never went to the restaurant part that’s why O haven’t give 5 stars for the food ;)

One of my favorite jazz venue on my last Brooklyn trip. It was a mellow Tuesday night in the summer last year and Iftah Kary hosted a solo piano show and followed with a jazz jam. It was very open and relaxed, and the staff that worked the bar were super chill and made a surprisingly mean cortado. The finger food was great, too. Would highly recommend a visit.

I did not have food but the cocktail I had was good. This place is very people and music centered, they just want you to have a good time. It took a little to get my drink but the bartenders were nice. I was traveling solo and didn't know anyone but felt like I could enjoy the space and focus on the music. They do residencies for local bands who they want to return regularly which is a great service to musicians as well, and every performer was exceptional. It's been a while since I've been in a place that feels this way and it is something special.

This place is without doubt my favorite restaurant in NYC (!) The food is incredible (the potato-leek pizza is out of this world, the hummus is delicious and the babkas are amazing). They have live jazz bands every night and another venue next door with another live band. For me it’s a 10/10 place

We visited this club on New Year’s Eve to ring in the new year. The club doesn’t accept online reservations, and tickets for the live jazz event are $20 per person. The space is relatively small with dim lighting, but the atmosphere is relaxed and laid-back. Different jazz bands take turns performing live, offering an intimate experience with the musicians. Cocktails are available on-site for $15 each. One notable perk is that the club shares its ticketing with the neighboring café, meaning you can freely move next door to enjoy another jazz band’s performance at no extra cost

I’ve been coming here for a few months now and absolutely love this place. With no cover and just a one drink minimum for people, it has a great environment. The staff has always been quite friendly. I recently came on a weekday midday the other day and it wasn’t that busy and had a very different vibe than weekends which was nice. Way less crowded but still the same quality jazz. I recommend if you’re looking to sit and listen coming earlier or during the week. Usually Thursday-Sunday they are pretty busy and especially around 10/11pm it gets quite busy with a queue. There is a patio upstairs and an inside room upstairs which are nice to sit in. When you’re in the inside part you can still hear the jazz, but do you’re own thing. The cocktails are delicious and very well-crafted. They are $13 which is pretty reasonable and $5 for a beer. Overall, Ornithology is a great community and a great place for some jazz.

We first went to the Café and had really good food! The music would have been ok but the band leader *Jade Synstelien* is really a weirdo and just should not play in public. He can play guitar but he plays too loud and too obnoxious as if he needs all the attention - even when his really good band members played solos. Really un-jazz like. The announcements were a lot of things but NOT professional: want-to-be-funny but quite the opposite, stupid, mumbling, patronising, dumb. Do not go there when this guy is playing. It is not worth it. For the cover charge of 25 (café) and 20 (club) can you go to the other location, which we did! The club is nice. Great bands there that night! Service at the bar was ok. And one thing I would really wish for is to ajust the music in the breaks to the music plyed that night. Pop/Rock music in the break really kills it.

Food, services and atmosphere is good! However, my only note from tonight's visit is about the live music. The band played at a very slow, low tempo for the entire hour, which lacked the energy and driving beat needed to keep the vibe lively.

It's definitely an experience to spend a night show there. Place looks run down but at the same time it can be cool and intimate. Limited seating is especially annoying when someone popular is performing. Cocktail menu is pretty nice with some classic as well as not so popular drinks. Overall worth a visit if you are into jazz or live music.

we tried to make a birthday reservation over the phone and email all ignored. I called like 10 times. We paid a $20 cover and started to order drinks, when I tried to order a non alcoholic drink the server says “‘NO” not oh we don’t have that we have X, Y, Z. Super rude. We order our drinks and then 20 min later another server proceeds to tell us we need to order food or give up the table. Ok weird considering we’ve been ordering drinks non stop and someone did get food but whatever we order more food. Then after all the food comes out they try to tell us we need to order more because we didn’t reach some minimum, that feels like it’s made up bc nobody said anything when we paid cover and they didn’t communicate tables are food required etc, it was a seat yourself situation. This place has like 4 tables, nobody wants to order dinner at 10pm.

Pros: Your $20 cover gets you access to a 2HR+ jazz show, a cafe/restaurant next door, and a chess room upstairs. Band was decent. Cons: The Jazz Club area is tiny! I got there on time and was able to secure a seat at the bar, only to have my view of the band blocked by all the late comers standing in front of me the entire night. There aren’t enough seats for everyone so it became a standing room only venue after the first 30 minutes of the show. The layout makes no sense. This felt like a crowded dive bar with jazz music in the background more than a Jazz club. They only had two bar tenders working a packed crowd and being close to the bar gave me the luxury of hearing how they were out of all kinds of drinks all night. I only ordered a tea, which was $5 dollars. Only one bathroom in the corner of the room with a long wait time. There is another bathroom in the cafe, but the same applies. So only two bathrooms for like 100 people! Advice to management: Stop being greedy. Sell advanced tickets online and limit capacity. The way things are now seems like a fire hazard. Also, you have to do something about the bathroom situation. Advice to consumer: If you’re in the area and want to listen to jazz, get there really early and hope no one stands in front of you. Try to secure one of the booths! But If you have the time and extra cash, you might be better off crossing the bridge and visiting the Bluenote; better talent and just a better experience.

Let me start by saying I am in the service industry and I know that tipping is important in our culture. I always make it a point to tip well. Last night was my first time visiting this jazz club. I arrived alone and decided to order a N/A beverage as I had just finished dinner and drinks at another establishment. I paid with a card. I wanted to leave a cash tip so I asked for change for my $10 bill. When I received my change, I was given $9.00. I do not believe this was a mistake. They count cash all night long.I believe the bar back assumed that I wasn’t going to tip. That left a bad taste in my mouth. I’m willing to give this place one more shot because the actual band that was playing was great. But I will not be ordering any cocktails from this place ever again.
