Opinions de French Louie Albee Square
We loved this brunch! First, customer service was amazing. The waitress was so friendly and warm, she was very considerable. More importantly, the food was awesome. French Toast was delicious and melt in your mouth. It was a huge plate. Too big for one person, share would be good! Egg Louie was tasty too! Especially the croissant with egg melting at the top. We’ll definitely visit back again!
My wife and I took our son out to dinner Wednesday night at French Louie—his recommendation—and we had a wonderful evening. Our server, Jason, was fantastic. He patiently answered all of our questions while we decided what to order and was attentive throughout the meal, regularly checking in to make sure everything was perfect. Even as the restaurant quickly filled up, we never once felt rushed or pressured. The steak frites and the moules were absolutely divine. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.
Had a spontaneous date night here and it turned out to be the perfect spot. The food was great and I especially appreciated the portions considering the affordable price point. The highlight for me were the fried artichokes, they were so delicious and memorable and so was the salad verte!
Joined for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant has a modern-bistro sensibility with subtle rustic touches and a nice balance between elegance and comfortable warmth. We sat in the back section of the main dining area with the leather banquettes. Tables did feel too cramped, and the it wasn’t a busy night but it would be difficult to get out from your seat on a busy one. Service was okay, not the most friendly and warm. Food was very good. The escargot was delicious, the piece of sausage added to each shell elevates the flavor. The grilled whole dorade was very fresh, meat was tender with a subtle sweetness. But the charred broccolini was very bitter for some reason. House steak was okay. Would love to try the lamb next time. Overall a cute bistro with great food.
Came for lunch on a date! It’s a cute and elevated spot. Get the Trout Po’ Boy- you won’t regret it. The dressing on it is so delicious, I’d love to know how they make it. The French bread is thick so if you’re looking for a lighter meal, then maybe skip. They have a very nice outdoor patio in the back! Very nice to sit under the sky / in the sunlight, but there are only 2 tables in the direct sun. The other “backyard” seating is actually under a big awning.
Our group of six had a wonderful brunch at French Louie. Everyone enjoyed their food, but the Crab Louie was the table favorite for sure. Nice atmosphere inside, and next time I think I'd book a table in their back garden, it looked lovely. Service was efficient, but a times could have been more attentive. I did very much appreciate their flexibility to adjust our reservation less than 24 hours in advance. Reservations likely required for weekend brunch as there was a large crowd trying to get a table as we left.
I loved this place. It's a small place but it is comfortable. They have a very cute patio, which I was happy to be able to enjoy. The service is very good. I had the Anchovies Frites. They were 😋 especially when paired with the Aioli that comes with it. I also had the Gougers. They were good. The prices are reasonable. I have to come back and try something else on the menu.
Had high expectations; felt the food is decent. Reasonably busy during a weekday lunch, with seats available. Steak tartare - quite good. Liked the packed tartare and loose yolk combination. Could do with a tiny bit more salt. Baguette was quite hard. Burger - liked the skinny fries though they are a tiny bit on the mushy side. Burger patty is decent but I’ve had better. Service is okay. Portions are also good for the price.
We had a special birthday dinner with our adult children and their spouses. We were celebrating a 75th and 40 th birthday. The food was excellent from the starters through dessert. The service was top rate, helpful, efficient, friendly and professional. The ambience was also very good. The staff even arranged to have lit birthday candles in our dessert. We all had a lovely time. Merci, French Louie!
This is a cute neighbourhood spot. We enjoyed the NYC restaurant week dinner deal, 3 courses for $45. Overall, we found our food quite salty (chicken was very intense), not sure if it was just that evening or if this food is overly salted. Highlight was the Bananas foster profiterole for dessert.
Was expecting more of the reviewed options like the steak frites to be on the brunch menu but seems like they do a different set. Crab Louie was pretty good though. Had service at the bar and was attentively taken care of although I was also inadvertently able to hear all the team gossip. May come back to try their dinner menu.
Beautiful ambiance but a bit tight. Great attentive staff. Food was good but didn’t blow me away. The octopus is really small. Did not like the leeks vinagrette. The mussels are great! The banana foster dessert is to die for. Heard great things about the pasta. Tried a bit of the cast iron chicken: nice and smoky, big portion. The fish looked good too - heard it was very bony.
If when dining out your priority is service, then this might just be your new favorite restaurant. They have truly nailed the balance between being attentive but not overbearing, which is not something a lot of restaurants can claim. As for the food, most things where a 9 or 10. I did come very excited for the steak tartare, as it’s one of my favorite meals, and maybe my hopes were too high but it left something to be desired. It wasn’t bad by any means, it just wasn’t great. The steak frites, on the other hand, are worth every penny. Don’t sleep on the dessert, the banana profiteroles were absolutely mental, would go back just for that. Additionally, they have a very beautiful patio, which I didn’t sit in because it was sweltering the day I went.
This ambience of this restaurant is nice, but the food was just OK. Service was not good. My waitress was very cold and unhelpful when I ordered and she took my order exactly as I had given it to her. Upon changing my mind a few minutes later and asking her to update something we had ordered, only then did she give me feedback on what I had ordered and suggested a change. Had I not checked back in with her, she wouldn't have said anything. Throughout the rest of the night she was really cold and not very helpful. The tables are really small and when another person came to bring us our food, he just left us to figure out how to puzzle all the plates together. I picked up some plates so he could put the entree on the table, and he left me just holding the additional plates to figure out how it would all fit. The food was OK, the steak was the best of what I got. The escargot itself was fine but the side it came with was not good. I would say this place is cute but definitely not worth what you pay for. Wouldn't go back.
Love the decor and patio. Don’t like the tiny bathroom. Been here twice. First time for a birthday dinner pictures are from that. Food was good. I loved the coco nojito (no achl) drink. Almost creamy. Simple sweet. Had raw meat for the first time ever here and it actually tasted good. Now I like steak tartare! The prawns are best item on menu imo. Service was good. Attentive. Second visit I went with a girlfriend. Food was same quality but service was terrible. Felt like the waitress was actively avoiding our table. Got to the point my friend and I were making bets on whether or not she’d come to our table and we won every time. There was a point there was only one table out on patio and our table. She went to check on THAT table came back inside WALKED PAST US and did not check on us for another 30min. Felt extremely purposeful and rude. Don’t think I’ll be back but it is a cute restaurant.
I tried to get a healthy dish so ordered the socca with multi grains and fried egg, but unfortunately it wasn’t that great. Also someone else in my party got a French toast but it was basically a large shared dessert instead of a brunch entree and he could really eat it, would not recommend getting that as an entree. The bread was hard and crusty! The service and ambiance were nice though.
Update: The first time that we dined here, we had such a wonderful time and were excited to come back. Unfortunately, our most recent experience wasn’t as great. The service is friendly, but absolutely not attentive. No one ever checked in on our table, they do not pour wine or water even when you purchase bottles. I had to wait several minutes to flag someone down to have them fix my meal. They don’t observe dietary restrictions and food, allergies. they never asked us if we wanted anything else before they brought the check. They rushed the appetizers. It was a stereotypical young , uninspired BK staff. We will not return. 2023: We had a beautiful dining experience in the garden. The 2019 Saint Emilion was perfect. We split a salad, and enjoyed the duck and the papardelle with poached egg. Can’t wait for our next date night at French Louie.
