Taverna Viavai

A lovely place to eat and drink. We were greeted at the door by Paul, who was a brilliant host. We had some really great food and will definitely be back! (I was reminded to write this review as it was so nice we’re still talking about it!)

It had stunning views. Some of the dishes we had were lovely others were so so. The thing I didn't like is that I had to pre-order when I booked. You never know what you feel like eating until you look at the menu and how hungry you will be.

Loved this restaurant, you have to pre-order by phone or Facebook messenger but the food is amazing and the chef comes out to ask if you enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, and we had a mini Portuguese lesson from one of the locals, would definitely visit again.

Great food friendly atmosphere well priced, very popular as their food is more of an oriental / middle eastern influence you can taste the passion and it's freshly made. Hygiene standards are of a high level!! Enjoy the experience

Found this place by chance on a lunch break and was pleasantly surprised. I had the curry and it was a good size and homemade and was excellent with just the right amount of spice (normally not the case in Portugal as things tend to be a bit bland). My colleague had the chilli nachos and when I return I will be trying those if available on the day. Nice setting and friendly owners too. Price was standard among the area.

Paul and Phillipa were our hosts. A wonderful meal of Bobotie, Thai green curry, very hot, salmon, Indonesian Chicken curry. It was great to get to know them. The place has a special ambiance in the village of Viavai. Order in advance off the menu on Facebook and go knowing you will spends a few hours here just chilling. No credit or debit card facility. Bring cash or pay with MB way. Perfect Sunday out... Easy and scenic drive. Loved it.

Intimate, authentic with two of the most lovely people I have ever met. Pam and Ian care so much about what they do, and make you feel like a friend the moment you enter their door. Traditional, well cooked English classics with a Sunday roast to die for. Booking essential.

This is our second visit to the Taverna, on this occasion it was for a pre-ordered fish and chip takeaway. I have to say that it was as good as any I have tasted back in the UK. Well done Pam, we look forward to our next visit.

Really good food in a cosy and rustic setting. The hosts are attentive and welcoming. The menu includes Curry, Pies, Fish and Chips, Vegetarian and Portuguese dishes. Highly recommended.

Paul and Philipa are excellent hosts and offer a wide range of cuisine. They are very accommodating and offer genuine home cooking and hospitality.

Delicious south east asian meals, authentic flavours and generous portions! A gem hidden in central portugal. Worth going!

We had a really good Chicken Curry last night at Taverna Viavai , the best curry I have had eating out for a very long time . A beer for myself , wine for my wife , Appetizers , Onion bhaji , poppadum’s , Chicken Curry with excellent tender white breast of chicken and rice with beautiful Crispy chips , followed by Apple strudel and ice cream for just myself and coffee for both of us to finish . All excellent and Hot

We enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch at Taverna Viavai. Chef Shaz and owners Philippa and Paul are so kind and welcoming. They made us feel right at home. All of the food was superb, and the environment is terrific and very conducive to conversation and meeting new friends. It’s also located in a beautiful traditional village. We highly recommend this restaurant!

We came here on a Sunday evening for pizza night and we loved it! The pizzas are very tasteful and the dough is perfect. Friendly owner and Jessie + Dominique are an excellent pizza-team :).

Appearances can be deceptive, so don't be put off by first impressions. Nice cosy atmosphere, welcoming and good quality home cooked English type menu.

Sehr schöner Platz mit toller Aussicht. Das Essen ist sehr gut. Ich würde sagen überwiegend Indonesische Speisen und es gibt auch Vegetarisch. Wir waren schon öfter dort und es ist immer super. Es gibt auch scharfe Gerichte was in Portugal nicht leicht zu finden ist. Nachtrag: Wir haben in den letzten Jahren mehrmals versucht dort zu essen aber es ist immer alles voll ( wenn 2 Tische besetzt sind)oder sie haben geschlossen . Mir kommt es vor als ist das Restaurant nur für Freunde geöffnet.

Disgusting, we booked a table of 10 for 12.30 meals came out very slow at intervals. I got my lunch at 13.50! Singapore noodles - it was like soup without taste there was s tiny amount of chicken, about 50 grams (if that!) Awful. One of the guests asked "why is it so slow?" the waitress replied "I've only got a 4 ring cooker" very rudely. Dont go there. This is first time I have ever posted such a review (check my history) I am very positive regarding my posts.
