Got amazing axe tail, very tasty gazpacho and delicious desert. All that 18 euro per person Also they let our dog in as it was hot outside. Such a nice people!
We went for lunch on a Sunday without a reservation and there was no problem. They have a set menu for €15 which includes a starter, main course, dessert, water, wine, and bread. For the price, and for it being a Sunday, everything was excellent—homemade food, well prepared. It's an old-fashioned restaurant where the food comes out very quickly, and you can park right next door. The cheesecake was fantastic, the stew soup was delicious, everything was great. Excellent value for money.
We arrived at Almazan at 3:30 pm with the idea of eating torreznos, and oh my goodness, how delicious! Crispy and freshly made, they were exceptional! We also had some gherkin banderillas with octopus and anchovies that were delicious! And a chorizo sausage that was also delicious. We thought we wouldn't be able to eat anything because of the time we arrived. After us (4 pm), four more people arrived, and they were also able to eat (sandwiches). THANK YOU, Restaurante Mateos!
Good set menu for €13.80 with coffee. If you're passing through on a weekday, you can enjoy tasty homemade food in a spacious dining room, and the service is quick thanks to the coordination of three women and one man. A good place to stop, and the bar is also quite large. And when you leave, there's a lovely park next door where you can stretch your legs.
Great food. Menu del día. Kind and helpful staff.
Ok
Super torreznos
Comida casera muy buena. Servicio muy rápido. Vale la pena hacer la parada. Menú fin de semana 18€/persona. Platos recomendados: Cardos con almendras.
Good service, although they didn't serve us anything. Not even a tapa. We still stayed for lunch. The menu was €13. The seafood paella was heavy on food coloring, with very little seafood, and surimi sticks? That's not seafood, and you don't put it in a seafood paella. The lamb was dry, since they didn't cook the pieces whole and put them sliced in the oven, making them very dry. The peas were very good. The homemade desserts were good, although they forgot to add sugar to the sugar-free rice pudding. Another thing: beer isn't on the menu.
Although it looks a little dated, great products and services. Quite complete menu for about 12 euros and very well attended by the staff. In a good location and with enough parking in the adjacent streets. Very close to La Arboleda, a place that you should not miss strolling because of its great charm and open-air sculpture museum. Very close, right in front, is the new footbridge that crosses the Duero River and runs parallel to the old bridge. Look at the small waterfall on the left. In short, a highly recommended place. Don't leave without trying their torreznos. They say they are the best in all of Almazan...
Mateos Restaurant is a great place to stop. At the bar, they offer a variety of quality tapas and larger portions, but their torreznos (crispy pork belly) are particularly noteworthy for their excellent quality and price. Without a doubt, they have some of the best torreznos in Soria. The restaurant also serves home-style cooking, daily set menus, and an à la carte menu. Typical local dishes. Very friendly service. Good wine cellar. Roasting oven.
If you're on the go, Restaurante Mateos is a great place to stop and enjoy a delicious torrezno soriano (pork rinds from Soria). We were a large group and stopped for the weekend menu (€12 per person). This time, the menu included a choice of starter: vegetable stew, stewed soup, or white beans with ear. Main courses included stewed veal, pickled quail, and baked sea bass. A wide variety of homemade desserts were offered, such as custard, rice pudding, curdled milk, and more. Bread and a drink were included.
Hemos desayunado desayuno y estaba bien.Pero no tenían zumo de naranja natural. Y no tenían tortilla de patatas, faltaban más bocadillos etc.
Busy little bar but no sign of any food being erved. Barman unhelpful and not friendly.
Delicious torreznos, although I think they'd be better if they were freshly fried and piping hot. I ordered a slice of melon for dessert, and although it was very rich and sweet, the price seemed excessive—€4.50, I think I remember. The prices were a bit steep for the size of the dishes.
Menú por 16 euros para llenar la tripa de calidad bajísima. El que le parezca decente este menú es que no ha salido del MacDonalds.
We went on a Saturday and ordered two set menus and a half menu, the latter of which was exorbitantly priced at 16 euros. And with the set menu, which was 20 euros, we ordered two tinto de verano wines, which they charged us separately without warning, 7 euros, which I consider a rip-off since the menu was verbally stated, not in writing. I complained, but to no avail, so I'm forced to publicly complain about this fraud, and I will certainly never go there again.
Lo han traspasado hace un año y ha perdido la cocina y el trato que tenía,una pena, Parada habitual en mi camino a La Rioja para comer el torrezno que siempre tenían y me dieron uno de al menos el día anterior, una momia escasa y cara
I went to eat without a reservation and waited a while. When they finally gave me a table, I ordered the set menu, which cost €18 (it was the weekend). I ordered creamy rice and sausages in wine. What was I thinking? The rice was undercooked and was supposed to come with chicken, not leftovers. Some of the sausages were whole, and others were just pieces that I couldn't tell if they were broken or if they were serving leftovers from other dishes. I've attached some photos so you can see for yourself. DISASTROUS. I won't go back even if they give me the set menu for free.
If you're looking for a nice family lunch in Almazán, don't go to this place. I've given it one star because "Not even One" isn't an option. One of the worst restaurants I've had the misfortune ever to eat in, and that's saying something. As a travelling salesman, I eat in about 200 restaurants a year, and some have been dreadful. This place is probably OK if you think that Torreznos are the apogee of Spanish cuisine. So if you want to eat deep-fried fat chunks of greasy bacon and nothing else, you'll be fine. You'll notice the intense stench of fried yuck as soon as you enter the 1970s-themed dining room. You get the picture when you see the formica tables are dressed with red paper tablecloths and clumsily-cut lumps of the cheapest white bread upon no side plates, all jammed so close together that you get thumped every time staff or clients shuffle behind you to get to another table. And just to prove it's really tacky, the walls are decorated with deer skulls and antlers. The food is ghastly: the worst kind of downmarket Castilian fare - for God's sake don't call this "gastronomy" or "cuisine" - e.g. tinned peas fried with knobbly offcuts of ham followed by a lump of meat that has been placed on a grill and turned over then plonked on a plate. Or two fried eggs (wow!) with 11 chips and three slices of the cheapest supermarket ham, for the modest price of 9 euros. Entrecotes (white veal, not red beef) were served with a tiny helping of chips, so we ordered an extra side portion for the three teenagers to share, which was so small it could have fitted on a coffee saucer. No vegetarian options. No chicken either: what the menu describes as "Cordon Bleu" is made of veal, so it's probably more like a partial Cachopo. "Salad" consists of manky bits of Iceberg lettuce with half a tomato, half a boiled egg (grey rings included), half a tin of white asparagus tips and half a tin of tuna. Seriously. Dessert - one of our party ordered fresh fruit. This was an apple. An apple; on a plate; just like that. And this claims to be a restaurant. Two others had ice cream: two ping-pong-sized balls of ice cream... which were served on a flat main-course plate! Clearly no idea how to serve ice cream. This brings me to the prices - 14 euros for a Menu del Dia, and 18 euros for an entrecote - worthy of a decent restaurant in Madrid or Barcelona. Five of our party endured this option, the other seven went à la carte, to the tune of 35 euros each. The staff, apart from a young waiter who was actually doing his best, had no basic good manners, or absolutely any idea how to serve people or food. The two late-middle-aged waitresses constantly shouted at each other and their clients across the dining room as if this were a provincial street market, and undecorously plonked food, plastic 1.5-litre bottles of mineral water and mismatch cutlery on the table as if it were a punishment, and removed plates whether or not we had finished with them. The toilets were flooded with filth, and when this was politely pointed out, the staff's attitude was "None of our business, we don't have time". This is a smelly-old shouty-fritanga provincial "Bareto", dishing up overpriced grub which is so bad it doesn't even make the grade as "mediocre food", to apparently undiscerning customers with unsophisticated palates and low expectations of service and food. Outcome: 326 euros for 12 people (five of whom had Menu del Día and one of whom had fried eggs), 20 August 2022. A total rip-off.
