On October 10, 2025, a group from Torrelavega had a snack at this restaurant. The croutons and churros were delicious; I've never had better in my life. The hot chocolate was also delicious and perfectly accompanied by a glass or jug ​​of cold water; there aren't many places that serve it this well anymore. The waiters were very attentive, friendly, and super fast. P.S. Congratulations to the kitchen (cooks/female chefs) as well. Thank you so much for everything.

Seven of us went for hot chocolate with churros and croutons. Everything was spectacular, as always. We often go there to celebrate special occasions. The waiters are friendly, and the service is very fast. You can't ask for more in a village bar that's always packed.

This restaurant is a place where you'll laugh with joy and your Spanish will automatically improve. What a discovery! Hostal Restaurante Piedra is one of those places where you walk in and immediately think: "Yes, we're going to have a blast here." And we did. We're Dutch, but we felt right at home here. The staff is incredibly friendly. They really do their best to speak English, and that alone deserves a standing ovation. (Or in our case: an enthusiastic bustle of Google Translate.) There was laughter, pointing, gesticulating, and guessing—and in the end, exactly what we hoped for always arrived. And it was delicious, too. The food… well, you can't really find words for it without bursting into tears of joy. From the appetizer to the main course and dessert: it's like your taste buds are on vacation in a warm bath of garlic and olive oil. And all that for prices that make you think: "Did they forget to charge us?" In short: this is the kind of place that makes you homesick before you even leave. Our vacation is coming to an end, but before we return to the bleak, gray Netherlands, we'll definitely stop here one more time. Or two. Or three.

It's a traditional place to enjoy hot chocolate and croutons or churros, or both. Don't expect a cutting-edge establishment; it's a traditional one where what they do, they do well. Winter nights are a good choice.

We've been coming here for years for chocolate with croutons. We've never tasted anything like them. Not oily at all. So soft and delicious. It's a must-stop if you're spending a few days in Cantabria. The serving of croutons includes 3 pieces, and with chocolate it costs 5 euros.

Great place, a must-stop for a snack. We visit it two or three times every summer. The hot chocolate with croutons is spectacular. Reasonable prices, perfectly cooked hot chocolate for €2 and a portion of croutons for €3. Once you try them... you'll be back. It's worth noting that they give you a jug of water to wash it down. The service is good and fast.

A very touristy spot for churros and croutons, served with the classic hot chocolate (chocolate with churros). The croutons are good, but the churros are just okay. They claim to be homemade, but they seem frozen. The service is average. They have a large terrace next to the Church of Christ of Limpias, which is good for space, especially if you're with dogs or a large group.

Fuimos a merendar chocolate con picatostes, ya que es un sitio típico y muy conocido para ello. La experiencia, sinceramente, fue bastante normal tirando a decepcionante. El chocolate no estaba malo, pero tampoco era nada especial, además de venir en poca cantidad. Los picatostes se sirven en raciones de solo 3 unidades; éramos 4 personas y tuvimos que pedir dos raciones, algo que me parece mal, ya que cada persona debería poder pedir la cantidad que quiera sin estas limitaciones. Los churros, para nuestra sorpresa, parecían de supermercado congelados. Con tanta fama, esperábamos que fueran frescos, pero no fue así. Incluso alguno estaba crudo y prácticamente sin azúcar (debe de ser un bien muy caro, porque apenas llevaban). No hay precios visibles en ningún sitio hasta que ya te han servido, lo cual tampoco es un punto a favor. El agua la sirven en una jarra de cristal, que muy probablemente sea del grifo. Además, este tipo de meriendas solo las ofrecen los fines de semana y en un horario bastante limitado, de 6 a 9, lo que también resulta poco práctico. Para rematar, una vez vieron que habíamos terminado de comer, no dejaban de mirarnos de forma insistente, haciéndonos sentir incómodos y dando la sensación de que querían que nos fuéramos cuanto antes. En resumen, un sitio con mucha fama pero que, en nuestra experiencia, no ofrece nada destacable. No estuvo mal, pero desde luego no es para tirar cohetes.

Mas de 30 años fieles al lugar, había otros que se fueron cerrando; ayer estuvimos media hora esperando sin montar la mesa, mientras gente de alrededor que había llegado después ya estaban merendando y lo que es peor, pedimos chocolate y churros, los churros totalmente incomestibles o eran del día anterior o los frien y los congelan, nunca he visto cosa igual. Para mí, Piedra se ha convertido en losa... de ahora en adelante acudiré al de enfrente o a cualquier otro. Nunca más.

We were a large group (9 adults, 5 children, 1 baby, and a dog), and upon arrival, without yet seeing our dog, we asked if they could accommodate us with her. They confirmed that they could and that they would set up two tables for us inside. However, upon seeing our dog, a 9-year-old golden retriever—calm, gentle, and docile—they changed their minds and told us she couldn't come in "because of her size." The strangest thing is that there was another dog inside the restaurant, a small breed (a Yorkshire terrier). In other words, it's not that they don't accept dogs, but rather that they discriminate based on size, something completely arbitrary and discriminatory. A huge disappointment, especially since we had confirmed in advance and were with a large group. I hope they reconsider their policy and learn to value the good behavior of animals over their size.

I'm not giving it any stars. I stayed there, and it was impossible to sleep because the owner left the terrace tables and chairs set up, closed the bar, and left. A group of people were staying at the hostel, and they spent the whole night drinking, talking, laughing, shouting, singing... We called the Civil Guard and the municipal police to report the public disturbance, and an answering machine told me they weren't operational. We called the owner, but they didn't respond. I won't return given the lack of security.

A long-established and very Cantabrian restaurant, it recently changed management and staff, and the quality has suffered; they've even stopped serving some typical local products. It's disappointing to see such an affordable and traditional place lose its charm and become just another run-of-the-mill restaurant. It's not the best option in the area.
