Opinions de Hula Hut Austin
Why do we recommend Hula Hut? The place is absolutely beautiful, the food is 100% delicious, the weather was perfect and gave us a spectacularly wonderful day to enjoy with my beloved husband and to that blessing we added the attention we received from Jaime, a very professional, kind, and polite person. (With your behavior, you honor the lives of those who were part of your growth. We bless you Jaime and may God always guide your steps.)
We sat outside in the covered area and it was beautiful to be able to sit outside with the scenery but also say warm after all the ice and snow. Food was delicious and very filling!!
The Hawaiian fajitas were awesome! Celebrated my birthday dinner drinks and desert with my sister and significant other. Our server was the best! I plan on returning during the warmer months to experience the lake scenery.
Dog friendly beautiful spot on the water. Free chips and salsa. Good drinks. The stupid gophers were made me feel home in Minnesota
Somebody reccomended Huña Hutnwhile we were in Austin, we went and had a great time. The place was by the water, the decoration was super cute very into the name of the rest, the food was great, the staff very friendly. The drinks were fun. I wish i had tried the margaritas but i was too full.
My husband and I ate here recently for the first time. Also our first time at Lake Austin. HH is amazing in every way! Atmosphere, decos, right on the lake, scratch-made food, great quality, great customer service, large portions... wow! We enjoyed it all and will definitely be back on another Austin trip. Parking is a little tight but they have an overflow across the street.
There are not enough stars for how amazing this place is! We loved the Hawaiian twist and the food was just amazing. We enjoyed the queso compuesto and the fajitas with the Hawaiian twist. They have homemade tortillas too! Speedy service and on the water. We were amazed! We live by Lake Conroe and this place blew out our local restaurant favorites. We will certainly be back.
This was our first time eating here only because we had reservations for the Austin Rental Boats Christmas Lights ride. We were lucky enough to find a parking spot under a palm tree in the upper lot of Hula Hut. Good luck with that though. We got there about 5 and we're immediately seated in a good spot out on the deck with a good view. We ordered the Hula Hut burger with added cheese and bacon and the big enchilada. I had the burger cooked medium and it has to be one of the tastiest burgers I've had at a restaurant in a long time. The fries were very good, too! The wife loved the enchilada, it was so big that she had leftovers for 2 more meals! The drinks........the first one I had was at the top of the drink menu with Butterfly Pea tea and that was a good one. The waitress asked if I wanted a second drink, however, she already took up the menus and I didn't know what to order. So I told her to surprise me....she did .....with the nastiest, most disgusting drink I've ever had in my life and I tried a lot in the last 20 years as well as my time in the Corps. She brought me the zombie drink which looks cool, but fubars your stomach after one good sip. My wife tried it and also hated it. The father in the booth next to us ordered one, so we observed his first sip.....yup.....facial impressions of disgust 😆. I seriously don't see how that drink stays on the menu. The waitress took it back and replaced it with a holiday one that was a frozen minty/pepperminty drink in a glass Santa clause jar with a red cover top. That was better and much more tolerable. They have a shark drink that was good and we suggest you try that one. So the food and most drinks are great but that zombie drink (in the photo as a skeleton head) really will turn you into a zombie the rest of the day. We didn't get the waitresses name but she had a small nose ring in her left nostril and she reminded me of that Black Widow character from the marvel films. Good waitress, just didn't enjoy the (I think) joke she played on me with the zombie drink (although I have a sense of humor). Will go back with the kiddos when we're not on a date night.
We had such a great experience at Hula Hut! The atmosphere was fun, the food was delicious, and the views made it even better. Julian, the manager, stood out to us right away — he was working alongside the servers, checking on tables, and helping out wherever needed. When we went to leave a tip, he kindly asked us to give it to his waitress instead, which really showed his character and teamwork. It’s rare to see that kind of leadership and humility in a manager. We’ll definitely be coming back — everything about our visit was amazing! Also the Hawaii Burger was top tier!
We were looking for a casual place along the river and this fit the bill. The chicken burger Hawaiian style was DELICIOUS! I would have enjoyed a better view of the river there but it was somewhat of a crowded section of the river with a small boat dock and a couple of other restaurants close by. We had to park across the street but it was good to walk off that delicious burger. Did I mention that it was delicious?
My 19 month old daughter, and I went to Hula Hut a couple weeks ago, and the moment I walked in the door, I was welcomed by a smiling host who told me I was a great dad. He brought us to a table overlooking the docs and the dam. He did not provide a high chair, but I was planning on having my daughter sit on my lap anyway so she didn’t make as much of a mess, so no worries there. Miguel was our server, and he was very knowledgeable of the menu and was attentive to our drink refills. He even took the broccoli off the bill because I told him it tasted odd even though I told him that I had no problem paying for it since I ordered it. Very genuine and very kind server. All the other food was amazing though; from the seafood taquitos, the french fries, the fried shrimp, the seasonal veggies, and the virgin Mai Tai. Miguel and the host were awesome and I absolutely loved the setting. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We will definitely be back and we hope we have the same host and Miguel as our server!
We love this place. It’s on our list of places to bring out of town guests. The docking set up makes it so much fun to pop in while boating. Indoor and outdoor seating. All covered. The menu has a lot of options. The chips are thin, freshly fried, and crispy. The salsa is delicious. The kids loved the Nina colada. They were able to accommodate allergies. Great service. Thank you! For other activities: It’s located near Mount Bonnell for a quick way to capture the sunset and views.
We really enjoyed our experience at Hula Hut. The concept is a Mexican–Hawaiian fusion, so it’s not traditional Mexican food, but a mix with a tropical twist. If you are looking for very authentic Mexican cuisine, this might not be the place. However, if you are open to trying something different, it’s definitely worth it. We ordered the big platter and it was very good. The portions were quite large, perfect for sharing. The flavors and presentation were well done. The atmosphere is one of the best parts. It’s a very picturesque place, especially because it’s close to the lake. The service was attentive and efficient. Overall, food, service, and atmosphere were all very good. It’s a great spot to enjoy a nice time in Austin.
Great option for eating on Lake Austin. We've been able to pull our boat in available slips each time we've visited, and the slips are good. Wait staff have always been knowledgeable and pleasant. Large food portions and not super overpriced compared to other on the water restaurants. Food is pretty good. We especially like their salsa that has hints of pineapple.
Oyster Landing Marina turned out to be a fantastic spot for a relaxed meal by the water. The atmosphere is fun, lively, and very “Austin” — colorful tables, friendly staff, and a real lake-side charm that makes you want to stay longer. The food in Hula Hut was excellent. We ordered fajitas, and everything came out fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The grilled chicken with pineapple was perfect, and all the sides guacamole, pico, cheese, beans, rice, and warm tortillas - made it a proper feast. Nothing felt rushed or pre-made; it tasted like real, comforting Tex-Mex done right. If you’re looking for a casual place with great food and beautiful views, Oyster Landing Marina is definitely worth a stop. I’ll happily return next time I’m in Austin.
I wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived, but the atmosphere was very laid-back and pleasant. It was so nice to eat outside in the open air. Our server was great, and the food was fantastic. They serve a unique Tex-Mex Hawaiian blend, and I had the Big Enchilada, which was very good. I'm giving them 4 stars because the food was tasty and homestyle feel - nothing over the top. Thank goodness (lunch time) the music and noise level was such that it was easy to have a conversation. There is also plenty of room for large groups.
We visited here while in town for the high school state track meet. We waited around 30-45 minutes for a table and were finally able to grab an outdoor high seated table. The lights were out on the umbrella unfortunately, so our meal was pretty dark. Our order was accidentally passed over, so we waited about an hour for our food. However, our waiter checked in often, apologized, and was very friendly. The food was pretty good - my burrito was massive and the Donkey Punch was strong. Although not the best visit, I would give this place another try in the future.
Have been to Hula Hut before and had a bad experience with service but thought I would try them again. This last time I visited my server sucked she was not helpful at all very inattentive. She seemed passive aggressive never refilled our water or gave a refill on chips. She also brought out the wrong items that she asked us about. Food was good at best. Server overcharged us for our order and took so long to come back to our table. Only way I would come back to this place was if they made it up to me by giving me better service and a free meal. The view is the best thing here.
When my boyfriend showed me the place, I loved it, but once we sat down I realized that all the one-star reviews I had read were absolutely right. Still, I wanted to give it a chance and experience it for myself. 1. The host was completely clueless and instantly killed the expectations I had just from seeing such a beautiful place. He told us we had to wait 30 minutes for a table outside by the lake, but then a very kind man working there immediately told us to follow him to check availability and sure enough, there was plenty. 2. The waiter we got… no comments. He really left a lot to be desired. 3. The food… the chicken was like chewing gum; I have no idea how they managed to cook it like that. The enchilada my boyfriend ordered was… ehh, just okay. 4. The margarita I ordered tasted more like juice, but I actually liked it. It’s incredibly obvious that the people working here couldn’t care less about anything. Go somewhere else, that’s all.
We came here with my wife as first time visitors in Austin. We carefully chose spots to dine in and looking at the reviews Hula Hut seemed like a very nice place. I am warning you do not be fooled by the reviews like we were. The moment we walked in the service went downhill. We were seated at very inconvenient spot, somewhere that should only be the last seat left to be seated on and there was plenty of room. Then we waited for quite some time for the server to finally get us and it was not that busy at all. We order two drinks but got one and our chips were missing their salsa. I had to tell the server one of our drinks and salsa is missing for him to finally bring them. After we got our desserts, I had tres leches it was not bad but also not so good that I can recommend it. My wife had order fried ice cream but what she was served was soggy Cinnamon Toast Crunch coated ice cream. I would say think twice before coming here.
